0:02 the older I get the more I realize how
0:04 life is pretty [Music]
0:06 [Music]
0:08 paradoxical when you're young you can't
0:11 wait to grow up and be an adult and when
0:13 you're older you long for the times when
0:14 you were a
0:17 child when you're young you have your
0:19 health but not the means to do what you
0:21 want and when you're older you have the
0:24 means but not so much the health the
0:26 list goes on really but there is one
0:29 I've been stuck on the most I recently
0:32 bought a Sketchbook with the idea to
0:33 turn it into an art
0:36 Journal but pretty quickly I found my
0:39 journal unused my expectations too high
0:46 found cuz when you're younger you're
0:47 blissfully unaware of the freedom you
0:50 have to just create to let your
1:00 free but as you get older you become
1:02 painfully aware of things like
1:04 comparison expectations and this urge to always
1:07 always
1:09 impress that you finally realized just
1:11 how lucky you were to be able to create
1:20 creating in 2005 I went on family
1:22 vacation in
1:25 Thailand and to document this trip I had
1:37 I'm honestly not even sure I could write
1:38 at the time so most of it is just
1:41 collages and drawings and tickets of
1:42 places we
1:45 visited but the point is that it wasn't
1:47 anything profound or impressive by any
1:50 means but rather that it was a reminder
1:52 that you had and still have the ability
1:54 to create
1:56 freely it's just a matter of
1:58 rediscovering it [Music]
2:00 [Music]
2:02 so when my family proposed to go on
2:04 vacation together I thought it would be
2:06 the perfect time to take a page out of
2:30 [Music]
2:31 I've always been a bit of a
2:34 perfectionist which I'm pretty sure most
2:36 people would say about themselves but
2:39 because of that I can really struggle to
2:41 actually translate the thoughts and
2:44 ideas that I have and be happy with it
2:46 because somehow it seems like it can
2:47 always be
2:50 better interestingly enough those old
2:52 journals would seem like the complete
2:56 opposite of perfect they were messy and
2:58 unfinished but that's exactly what made
3:00 them perfect pages are looking a little
3:03 bit rough because having such a raw and
3:05 tangible version of an experience is
3:07 kind of the closest anyone could ever
3:10 get to reliving a memory where you can
3:11 find everything from the things you did
3:13 to the sights you saw to the food you
3:15 ate the feelings you felt or even the
3:17 music you listen
3:26 bed if journaling is the closest you can
3:29 ever get to reliving a memory I think
3:31 music music is the most effortless way
3:33 to do
3:36 so as someone who documents their life
3:39 and experiences through videos finding
3:41 the right music to accompany them has
3:44 been absolutely essential but it can
3:47 also be very hard to find the right song
3:49 but that was until I found music
3:52 bed their library is honestly nothing
3:55 short of impressive where I'm able to
3:56 actually use the very same songs that I
3:59 have defined some of my experiences and
4:01 even if I can't find the exact same
4:03 songs their Search tool will help me
4:07 find one with a similar sound and
4:10 feel so that I don't have to compromise
4:12 on the emotion and Nostalgia that the
4:14 music of my videos and ultimately my
4:17 life evokes there will be a link in my
4:20 description for a 14-day free trial and
4:22 I highly recommend that you give it a go
4:25 because the feel of their music is
4:40 to be honest this video isn't really
4:43 about journaling
4:45 anyway it's just about this constant
4:47 battle we have between our inner child
4:49 and our inner
4:52 critic a common threat in my life and I
4:55 think probably many others as well is
4:57 that it always seems like everyone
4:59 around you knows exactly what they're
5:02 doing and has it all figured out and I
5:04 think the same thing can be said for any
5:07 creative Pursuit really because I feel
5:09 like I constantly have all these ideas
5:11 and thoughts that seem so brilliant in
5:14 my mind but they get lost in translation
5:15 when I try to bring them to
5:18 life and I've definitely beat myself up
5:21 over the fact that I just can't seem to
5:24 attain this perfect picture that I have
5:26 in my head of of what I create whether
5:28 it's journals or drawings or paintings
5:30 or videos
5:32 sometimes it just kind of feels like I
5:35 have the blueprint but I lack the right
5:38 tools but to be honest that's kind of
5:40 what makes anyone's creation so unique and
5:41 and
5:44 Priceless there is no right and wrong as
5:48 to how you can create and if everyone
5:50 would have the right tools then all
5:53 creations would look the
5:55 same I think our ability to create is
5:57 one of the most interesting things about
6:00 us not because everything we create is
6:02 perfect but precisely because it's not
6:05 there is such a beauty and clumsiness
6:07 and messiness and imperfection that I
6:11 think we sometimes fail to
6:13 embrace creating something that might
6:16 seem imperfect to you is always going to
6:18 be better than not creating anything at
6:21 all and risking losing something that
6:29 future I guess it's just important to
6:31 remember remember that somewhere within
6:34 you there is that inner child who didn't
6:37 care about expectations or needing to
6:40 impress the people around them and the
6:42 best way to access that kind of
6:44 creativity and creative freedom is to
6:46 just start somewhere small and perhaps
6:49 even seemingly irrelevant like my
6:52 5-year-old's art Journal something that
6:54 will make you understand why you started
6:57 and how you can pick it back up again [Music]
