0:02 What is the process to apply for the UK
0:05 spouse or partner visa in
0:07 2025? If you're planning to apply for a
0:09 UK spouse or partner visa to join your
0:12 British or settled partner in the UK,
0:13 it's important to understand the full
0:16 process before you begin. We know how
0:18 crucial it is to get things right the
0:20 first time. In this video, we'll explain
0:22 each stage of the application, what
0:24 forms to complete, which documents
0:26 you'll need, the fees involved, and what
0:28 to expect after submission. Whether
0:30 you're married, in a civil partnership,
0:32 or in a long-term relationship, this
0:34 step-by-step guide will help you prepare
0:46 application. What is a UK spouse
0:49 visa? The UK spouse visa, also referred
0:52 to as the partner visa, allows nonUK
0:53 nationals to live in the UK with their
0:56 British or Irish citizen partner. This
0:58 visa applies to couples who are married,
1:00 in a civil partnership, or have been in
1:02 a genuine and subsisting relationship
1:03 for at least 2
1:06 years. The stages of the UK spouse
1:08 partner visa application
1:11 process. The process of applying for a
1:13 UK spouse or partner visa from outside
1:15 the UK generally involves six main
1:18 steps. You'll start by completing the
1:20 online application form, then move on to
1:22 gathering and organizing all the
1:24 necessary supporting documents. Once
1:26 you're ready, you'll submit your
1:28 application and pay the required fees.
1:30 After that, you'll need to book and
1:32 attend a biometric appointment, submit
1:34 your supporting documents, and finally
1:36 wait for the home office to make a
1:38 decision on your visa
1:41 application. Applying inside or outside
1:44 the UK. One of the first things to
1:46 determine is whether the application is
1:48 being made from inside or outside the
1:50 UK. Many applicants find this part
1:52 confusing, especially when the resident
1:55 sponsor, that is the British or settled
1:57 partner living in the UK, is the one
1:59 completing the application form on their
2:01 behalf. The important thing to remember
2:03 is that the application is tied to the
2:05 location of the applicant, the person
2:06 applying to come and join their British
2:09 or settled partner in the UK, not the
2:11 sponsor. So, if the applicant is
2:13 applying to come to the UK, the
2:15 application is deemed as being made from
2:18 outside of the UK. Therefore, all UK
2:20 partner visa applications which gives
2:22 the applicant leave to enter or entry
2:24 clearance into the UK to join their
2:26 spouse partner are made from outside the
2:29 UK. The current home office fee for an
2:33 application made outside the UK is
2:35 £1,938. In addition, there is the
2:38 immigration health search charge or IHS
2:40 which is
2:43 £3,15. Note that the IHS fee is not
2:44 applicable for those applying as a
2:47 fiance or proposed civil partner.
2:49 Applications made inside the UK are only
2:51 possible if the applicant is already in
2:53 the UK and holds a valid visa not
2:56 including a visitor or tourist visa and
2:57 is either applying to extend their
2:59 current spouse or partner visa,
3:01 converting their fiance visa after they
3:03 get married, or are switching from
3:05 another visa category such as a student
3:07 or work visa. In this case, the
3:09 appropriate application to make is known
3:11 as FLRM or further leave to remain in
3:14 the UK as a spouse or partner. The cost
3:17 for the application inside the UK is
3:26 £2587.50. Starting your UK spouse visa

6:43 spouse visa. Once your UK spouse or
6:45 partner visa application has been
6:47 submitted, the home office will usually
6:49 acknowledge receipt by sending an email.
6:51 This email confirms that your biometric
6:53 information and supporting documents
6:55 have been received by UKBI
6:57 electronically for them to assess your
7:00 application. If you applied from outside
7:02 the UK and opted for the priority visa
7:04 service, you can generally expect a
7:07 decision within 30 to 60 working days.
7:09 While the UKVI service standard is 6
7:12 weeks, it is not always guaranteed. For
7:14 those using the standard service,
7:16 decisions are typically given within 3
7:17 to 4 months from the date of your biometric
7:18 biometric

7:23 the UK, you will usually get a decision
7:26 within 3 months. If you opted for the
7:28 super priority visa, you will get a
7:31 decision within 1 to two working days.
