0:02 If you're looking for the absolute best
0:04 TV shows to watch right now, you're in
0:06 the right place. As we do around this
0:08 time each year, in this top 10, I'll
0:10 count down our favorite TV shows with
0:12 new episodes released since last year's
0:14 video. And of course, I will count these
0:16 down in order with entertainment value
0:19 being the most important factor. Let's
0:21 get started.
0:23 Starting off our countdown, coming in at
0:26 number 10 is Murderbot. This science
0:29 fiction action comedy drama on Apple TV
0:31 Plus is based on the book series The
0:34 Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. It
0:36 stars Alexander Scarsgard as the title
0:38 character who is a construct
0:41 manufactured from mechanical parts and
0:44 cloned human tissue. As a rogue security
0:46 bot who secretly gains free will, it
0:48 balances dangerous missions and the
0:52 desire to be isolated. The sci-fi action
0:54 along with the sharp dry wit make each
0:57 episode a fun ride. Murderbot has been
0:59 renewed by Apple TV Plus for a second season.
1:01 season.
1:05 Coming in at number nine is Tulsa King.
1:06 Available on the Paramount Plus
1:08 streaming service. This is a comedy
1:10 crime drama created by Taylor Sheridan,
1:13 the creator of Yellowstone. It stars
1:15 Sylvester Stallone as a member of the
1:17 mafia recently released from a prison in
1:19 New York who relocates to Tulsa,
1:21 Oklahoma to set up a criminal
1:24 organization. The dialogue is brilliant
1:26 with Stallone and the cast putting in
1:28 strong performances make it a great
1:31 show. Two seasons of Tulsa King are
1:32 available to watch right now and has
1:36 been renewed for a third season.
1:39 In at number eight is the comedy drama
1:42 Shrinking on Apple TV Plus. It stars
1:45 Jason Seagull as Jimmy Lar, a therapist
1:47 grieving the loss of his wife who
1:49 decides to breach ethical barriers to
1:51 become more involved in the lives of his
1:53 patients. Co-starring is Harrison Ford,
1:56 who plays a grumpy senior therapist and
1:59 colleague of Jimmy's. While the subject
2:01 matter of shrinking is dark, it does
2:02 have some moments that are actually
2:04 quite funny. Also, the chemistry between
2:08 Seagull and Ford is fantastic. Shrinking
2:10 has two seasons on Apple TV Plus and has
2:13 been renewed for a third.
2:15 Our number seven pick, Dope Thief, is
2:16 one that didn't get a lot of attention
2:19 when it was first released. This 8
2:21 episode crime drama miniseries on Apple
2:24 TV Plus stars Brian Tyrie Henry and
2:26 Vagner Moya, who some of you might
2:28 recognize as Pablo Escobar in the hit
2:31 series Narcos. In short, not to spoil
2:33 the plot, is about two lifelong friends
2:37 in Philadelphia who pose as DEA agents
2:40 to rob drug dealers. Dope Thief is a
2:42 gritty, suspenseful show with fantastic
2:44 acting that gets better with each
2:46 passing episode.
2:48 Coming in at number six is the spy
2:52 thriller Slow Horses. Also available on
2:54 Apple TV Plus, the series follows a
2:57 group of dysfunctional MI5 agents sent
2:58 to a low-level department under the
3:00 direction of their miserable boss,
3:04 Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman.
3:06 With sharp writing and superb acting,
3:08 especially from Oldman, it's quite
3:09 entertaining to watch as this group
3:11 investigates schemes endangering
3:14 Britain. Four seasons of Slow Horses are
3:16 available on Apple TV Plus to watch
3:18 right now and its fifth season is
3:21 expected to premiere later this year on
3:24 September 24th.
3:26 Our number five pick, The Penguin is the
3:28 first series in a long time in the DC
3:31 Comics universe that is actually great.
3:34 Premiering on HBO and streaming on HBO
3:36 Max, this 8 episode limited series is a
3:39 spin-off of the film The Batman. It
3:41 explores the Penguin's rise to power in
3:44 Gotham City's criminal underworld with
3:46 Colin Frell putting on a fantastic
3:48 performance in the lead role. The
3:50 Penguin is a well-written series with
3:52 excellent performances that should not
3:54 be overlooked.
3:57 Next up, coming in at number four is
3:59 Severance. This science fiction
4:01 psychological thriller is one of the
4:03 most original series on any streaming
4:06 service in years. It stars Adam Scott as
4:09 Mark, a worker for the biotechnology
4:11 company Lumen Industries. Mark leads a
4:14 team of office workers who take part in
4:16 the Severance medical procedure program,
4:18 which separates non-work memories from
4:21 work memories. Without giving away any
4:23 spoilers, Severance gets better with
4:24 each new episode leading up to its
4:27 near-perfect season finale in the first
4:29 season. And while the second season does
4:31 not live up to the high bar of its
4:33 first, it's still one of the best.
4:35 Severance has been renewed by Apple TV
4:38 Plus for a third season.
4:40 Before we get to our top three, here are
4:42 some honorable mentions just missing out
4:44 on our top 10 that might be worth your
4:47 time to check out. On Paramount Plus,
4:50 the British crime drama starring Tom
4:52 Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosman,
4:56 Mob Land. On Netflix, the sports comedy
4:59 starring Kate Hudson, Running Point.
5:02 Also on Netflix, the western drama
5:06 starring Taylor Kit, American Primeval.
5:08 On Apple TV Plus, the dark comedy crime
5:11 drama from the creator of Banshee and
5:13 Warrior starring John Ham is Your
5:16 Friends and Neighbors.
5:18 On HBO Max, the crime thriller starring
5:21 Josh Holloway, Duster.
5:24 On FX on Hulu, the psychological comedy
5:27 drama starring Jeremy Allen White, The Bear.
5:28 Bear.
5:31 premiering on AMC and streaming on AMC
5:33 Plus, the psychological thriller
5:37 starring Zan McLaren, Dark Winds.
5:39 And it's worth mentioning on Netflix,
5:42 the anthology sci-fi speculative fiction
5:44 series Black Mirror, which came back
5:45 earlier this year with its seventh
5:47 season, has standalone episodes that are
5:50 worth watching.
5:52 Back to the countdown. Cobber Kai takes
5:54 the number three spot. This martial arts
5:57 comedy drama on Netflix is a sequel to
6:00 the original Karate Kid films. It stars
6:03 Ralph Machio and William Zapka reprising
6:05 their roles as Daniel Laruso and Johnny
6:07 Lawrence. The series begins with Johnny
6:10 who is down on his luck reopening the
6:12 infamous Cobra Kai dojo reigniting his
6:14 rivalry with Daniel who is now a
6:17 successful businessman. While cheesy at
6:19 times, this nostalgic series is well
6:21 written, highly entertaining, and unlike
6:23 most shows, had a very satisfying
6:25 conclusion. All six of Cobbert High's
6:27 seasons, with the sixth being the last,
6:31 are on Netflix right now.
6:33 In the runner-up spot, coming in at
6:36 number two is the surprise hit, The Pit.
6:39 Available on HBO Max, this medical drama
6:41 stars Noah Wy with a great supporting
6:44 cast. It follows emergency department
6:46 staff at a fictional hospital in
6:48 Pittsburgh as they attempt to overcome
6:50 the hardships of having to work 15-hour
6:52 shifts. Each episode covers
6:55 approximately 1 hour of the work shift.
6:57 The Pit is the best medical series in
7:00 decades. It's a refreshing and unique
7:03 take on the genre. The writing is superb
7:05 and the performances are amazing. The
7:07 Pit has been renewed for a second season.
7:09 season.
7:11 In the top spot, coming in at number
7:13 one, which will be a shock to many of
7:16 you, is Andor. This action adventure
7:18 sci-fi thriller on Disney Plus is a
7:20 prequel to the Star Wars spin-off film
7:23 Rogue One. It stars Diego Luna as a
7:27 thief turned rebel spy, Cassian Andor.
7:29 It takes place during the time that a
7:31 rebel alliance is forming in opposition
7:33 to the Galactic Empire. When compared to
7:36 the other less than stellar Star Wars
7:38 shows, it's darker in tone, more gritty
7:40 in nature with fantastic performances
7:42 and amazing cinematography.
7:44 Some publications have referred to it as
7:46 being the greatest Star Wars production
7:48 ever created, and that includes all of
7:51 the movies in the franchise. Andor was
7:53 scheduled to only have two seasons, both
7:54 of which are available to watch right
7:58 now on Disney Plus.
