0:02 Hello and welcome back to my channel.
0:04 I'm Lee Automotive and today we've got
0:07 the famous Land Cruiser. Now, this
0:10 specific car is named by Toyota as
0:12 invincible. And you know what? Fair play
0:14 to them because this car pretty much
0:16 round the world is known for its
0:19 reliability and all round it being a
0:22 fantastic car. Now, can the new
0:24 generation live up to its predecessors?
0:25 That's what I want to find out today.
0:27 So, let's go have a look around it and
0:30 then go for the allimportant drive. The
0:34 car has a 2.8 L 4 cylinder diesel engine
0:37 with 202 brake horsepower and 500 Nm of
0:41 torque with a tow capacity of 3.5 tons.
0:43 The car has a new 8-speed direct shift
0:46 automatic gearbox and a naught to 62
0:49 time in 10.9 seconds. onto the look of
0:51 this car. And do you know what? I really
0:52 like that they've gone back to the sort
0:54 of original looking Land Cruiser, which
0:57 was quite squared and boxy. The more
0:59 modern ones seem to get more curved, and
1:01 I wasn't as big of a fan of them, but
1:04 this looks really smart. Now, the first
1:06 edition of these cars actually got some
1:08 really cool sort of circle LED
1:10 headlights and also this nice two-tone
1:12 paint. I much preferred that because I
1:14 thought it gave it more personality. I
1:16 still like the look of this. I just
1:19 don't think it's as cute looking really.
1:21 Um, and it sort of blends in, but it
1:22 just depends on what you're looking for
1:25 in your car. Now, something they've done
1:27 which is really cool is most of the
1:29 panels here, it's very, very complicated
1:32 looking, but there is a reason for that
1:33 because they've made it so when you're
1:36 off-roading, things like the bumpers, if
1:37 you scratch it here, you can just
1:39 unscrew here and you don't have to
1:41 replace the whole thing. So, I love that
1:43 they thought of that. What I really like
1:45 about this is that you can recognize
1:47 that it is a Land Cruiser. A lot of
1:49 modern cars don't look like their
1:52 original cars before them, but this with
1:54 the shape of the windows and the size of
1:55 them, you can just tell what it is, and
1:58 I love that. Now, this car measures at
2:01 just over 6 foot, and I'm about 5' n,
2:03 maybe a bit taller, and I love the
2:06 height of it, but it's not too tall, so
2:07 you can still get into car parks and
2:09 things we found this week, which is
2:13 super good. Now the wheels are 20 in and
2:15 we have six bolts which you might have
2:17 noticed and that is because of how
2:20 rugged this car is. Normal cars get five
2:21 bolts which is quite interesting. We
2:23 also get these side steps as standard
2:25 which make it a lot easier for people
2:27 like my mother who's like 53 and found
2:29 it quite hard to get in. Visually this
2:31 is probably my least favorite angle of
2:33 the car. I just feel like it's a little
2:35 bit boring. And that is personal opinion
2:37 but let me know in the comments. And the
2:40 reasoning for that is before we used to
2:42 have a side hinge door which opened this
2:44 way. I just think it gave it a little
2:47 bit more character although it's not as
2:50 practical as the boot is now. We also
2:52 have the spare wheel underneath but I
2:54 would quite like it on the actual car.
2:57 Again, not very practical. I just like
3:01 it from a 4x4 looking perspective. Now,
3:04 it is super practical though because we
3:07 have a boot, split tail boot, which
3:10 opens like this, which is great for if
3:12 you've got dogs. And also something
3:15 super handy, which is a pet peeve of
3:18 mine, is this bootstep here is actually
3:21 sort of plastic. And the amount of times
3:23 our dog scratches it, even if we get a
3:26 cover, somehow he manages to scratch the
3:28 little side of it. Having this is just
3:32 super practical for every day, not just
3:35 off-roading. Let's have a look inside.
3:40 Come and have a look. So, inside with
3:43 all the seats up, we have 500 L of boot
3:46 space, but the Toyota Land Cruiser in
3:48 the UK, all of them come with seven
3:51 seats. So, when this is up, we have just over
3:57 100 lers of boot space, which isn't very much.
4:04 It's angry.
4:06 After those technical difficulties,
4:08 which actually are quite handy because
4:10 we didn't have the seats far forward
4:12 enough, so these back seats wouldn't
4:14 come up. And it's only a little bit we
4:16 had to move it, but it's good to know.
4:18 So, I'll use this one actually. You've
4:20 got a button here, but you have to press
4:22 the button the whole time, which I don't
4:24 think is that much of an issue. Um, but
4:26 these are really easy to use. They go up
4:29 quite fast.
4:31 And when they are up, you have to
4:34 manually pull up the headrest,
4:36 which is okay. And you have a decent
4:39 amount of space to actually sit, but as
4:41 you can see, not much room here. You can
4:43 hear the car's beeping, and for some
4:45 reason, it does beep quite a lot. And
4:46 I'll get into that when we go and look
4:48 at the front of it. But just to let you
4:50 know, it's a bit of a beepy one. Okay,
4:53 onto the middle row of seats. Right, we
4:55 have heated and cooling seats at the
4:57 back. Now, these aren't fully cooled
4:59 like the front. They sort of cool from
5:01 the side, but it's still a nice touch.
5:04 We've got two Isoix here. Now, in the
5:06 whole car, we actually only have two
5:08 Isoix, which isn't great because in some
5:10 other cars, you get iceix in a lot more
5:13 seats. I mean, it's fine, but it it's a
5:15 bit annoying. Now, the Iceix are
5:16 actually covered with a nice bit of
5:18 leather, which I think looks quite smart
5:21 as well. Two USBC chargers. We can move
5:22 the seats back and forward. The back of
5:24 them sort of recline quite a lot. And
5:26 also, the rear seats recline as well.
5:28 It's nice and bright in here. We've got
5:30 the grab handles and the speakers are
5:33 JBL. And all round the speakers aren't
5:35 terrible. They work quite nicely. But
5:37 we'll go into the front now and talk you
5:39 through the entertainment. I absolutely
5:41 love it. This is a really nice place to
5:44 be. So, I've heard a few people say that
5:46 the interior quality isn't really up to
5:48 scratch. And I don't know what you're
5:50 expecting. I mean, even my sister who's
5:52 got a BMW said, "Oh, I don't like all
5:53 the scratchy plastics." And I said,
5:56 "It's this isn't a Range Rover. This is
5:58 a utility vehicle, but that you can use
6:01 every day." And I think it's finished
6:03 really nicely. These seats are super
6:06 comfortable. And my mother is the
6:08 biggest critic when it comes to seats.
6:10 Even Range Rover seats, she says, aren't
6:12 comfortable. But her verdict were these
6:14 seats are comfortable and we went on a
6:17 three-hour trip and she praised them.
6:21 Now we have heated and cooled seats and
6:23 sometimes the cooling seats are even a
6:25 bit too much because they are so cold
6:26 but they come out of all the little
6:28 holes here and I think they work really
6:31 nicely. Um, and I will say something I
6:33 really do like is that when the
6:35 infotainment and stuff is on, you turn
6:37 the car on, you put your heated seat on,
6:39 and the next day when you get in or when
6:42 you come out from shopping, it's still
6:44 on. It's still saved with how you had
6:47 it. Now, this did work in a good sense
6:49 because I was hot and I got in the car
6:50 and it already had cooling seats on. I
6:52 was like, great. But then in the other
6:55 side, my other half for some reason in
6:58 the middle of June had heated seating on
7:00 in the evening. And then when I went in
7:01 in the morning, I went on a journey and
7:03 I was like, "God, it's hot in here." And
7:05 realized the heated seat was still on
7:07 and the steering wheel. So, it works
7:08 both ways, but I actually do like that
7:11 it stays on. Now, I have said this car
7:14 is quite beepy and it has a lot of
7:16 safety features. One of them being that
7:18 it's got a camera at the front of the
7:21 wheel that looks at you and it says sit
7:23 up. Driver not paying attention if you
7:24 aren't paying attention. Even if you
7:26 just sort of look to the side, it gives
7:29 you a bit of a uh noise. The rest of it,
7:30 I think, is really good. The lane
7:32 assist, the cruise control works really
7:35 well. Everything in this car just works,
7:37 and that's what I like. We've got lots
7:40 of buttons. The infotainment screen is
7:44 quite basic. Um, I'd say it's a 12.3 in
7:45 screen. It's not too big. It's nice and
7:49 integrated, but the actual settings and
7:50 things are quite basic. But I think
7:52 that's quite nice when you come from
7:55 cars that are so over complicated and
7:57 even turn doing things like turning the
8:00 AC is too complicated and distracting. I
8:01 think it's nice to have something that
8:03 just does the job and it works. And most
8:05 of the time I think we all use Android
8:08 or Apple CarPlay. Anyway, we have three
8:11 USBC chargers and also weirdly a HDMI
8:13 charger. And I have been doing some
8:15 research on this and I can't really find
8:17 the reasoning for it. I think some
8:19 people say you can use YouTube, you can
8:21 it's more sort of HD, but do let me know
8:23 in the comments. We've got all the
8:25 controls, all the buttons, everything is
8:27 laid out really, really simply. We even
8:31 have a cool box which fits four 500ml
8:33 bottles in. Um, it does say here do not
8:35 put fish or meat in. So, I wouldn't
8:36 suggest that. That's a bit gross. I
8:38 think it goes off when the car is off.
8:40 So, don't do that. Just keeps your water
8:43 nice and cool. But overall, the front of
8:46 this car's cabin is very driver focused.
8:48 Everything's very simple to use, and I
8:50 really, really have enjoyed driving it
8:52 this week. But I think it's time we go
8:53 for the allimportant drive. And let's
8:56 see how this thing handles as a daily
8:58 driver. It's the ultimate off-road
9:00 machine, but can it be a daily? Now,
9:01 let's talk about how good this car is
9:04 off-road and also all of the fancy tech
9:06 it comes with. So, it has a stabilizer
9:09 disconnect mechanism, allowing the front
9:11 stabilizer bar to disconnect, enhancing
9:13 wheel articulation for better off-road
9:16 performance. It also features an
9:18 electronic rear differential lock and
9:20 multi-terrain select with multi-terrain
9:23 monitor for versatile handling. It's
9:25 built on a ladder chassis like the
9:27 Grenadier. This design separates the
9:29 chassis from the vehicle body. It makes
9:31 it more rigid and structurally sound.
9:34 With an added 12 meters of structural
9:37 adhesive for improved durability. Also,
9:39 with four-wheel drive low mode activated
9:42 and also mid mode engaged, you can
9:44 activate crawl mode, which acts like
9:46 cruise control for off-roading. Now, I'm
9:49 sure you guys have seen tons of reviews
9:51 on how this car is off-road. And I'm not
9:53 going to be taking it off-road. We know
9:56 it's an extremely capable car. I've gone
9:58 through all of the things that you have,
10:00 all of the great technology for off-roading,
10:01 off-roading,
10:04 but most of the time with this car,
10:07 you're going to be daily driving it. So,
10:10 how is this car to drive as a daily?
10:12 Now, I've recently reviewed the Inos
10:14 Grenadier, and I also own a really old
10:18 1989 Land Rover. So, I'm used to cars
10:21 that take a bit of concentration, that
10:23 bit more of concentration to drive. you
10:26 know, your leg might feel a bit sore
10:29 after doing the clutch or the steering
10:30 and the Grenadier, for example, or
10:33 you've got to think a bit more about it.
10:36 This car is the complete opposite. I've
10:39 genuinely just got in it and gone. I
10:43 just go. I have done I've almost done a
10:46 full tank, so about 340 miles in this
10:49 car. and it's been a car that I've just
10:51 got in and I haven't really had to think
10:54 about much apart from obviously driving,
10:55 but I haven't had to think about
10:58 anything extra. So, the gears, I think
11:00 the gearbox is pretty good for a car
11:03 like this. It's the new 8-speed
11:04 automatic gearbox, and I know there's
11:06 been some reviews that say it's a bit
11:08 jerky. I haven't found that. I think
11:10 that for this car, I think it's been
11:12 absolutely fine. Um, it's responsive
11:15 enough. It's got the 2.8 8 liter engine
11:18 that it had in the previous model. And I
11:20 will say it does feel that little bit
11:22 underpowered. Competitors like the new
11:25 Defender and the Inos Grenadier have six
11:27 cylinders. This only has four. We've got
11:29 200 brake horsepower as I've said, and
11:32 it just feels like it's not enough for a
11:33 car like this. To be honest with you,
11:35 I'm going through country lanes right
11:37 now. And although this is an absolutely
11:39 huge car,
11:41 it's not been that unpractical in size.
11:43 I mean, I haven't had an issue getting
11:45 into car park spaces. The turning circle
11:48 is brilliant compared to a Defender,
11:50 even compared to the Inos. It's really,
11:52 really practical. The steering is so
11:55 light. And I will say, so my dad was in
11:56 the previous video with the Inos
11:58 Grenardine. You might have seen that.
12:02 And he came in this car with me and said
12:04 that I do think it's a bit too easy to
12:07 drive. He said, "I want that bit of
12:09 ruggedness with it." And that's quite
12:11 interesting because I think if you had
12:14 this as a daily has got that element of
12:17 ruggedness, but it's also maybe too easy
12:19 to drive for some people that are used
12:21 to maybe the older cars and they want
12:22 something with a bit of feedback with
12:24 the steering wheel. They don't want the
12:26 steering to be so light. I did think
12:28 that was quite an interesting take. But
12:31 if this was my only car, my only daily driver,
12:32 driver,
12:35 I am absolutely I'd be thrilled with it.
12:37 I mean, you can fit everyone in it. You
12:40 have so much road presence. You feel
12:42 super cool getting in it. If you know,
12:44 you know this is one of the best
12:47 off-road reliable cars that you can get,
12:49 to be honest. And everyone gives you
12:51 that sort of nod of approval. They're
12:53 looking at you and you're just driving
12:55 and you're just like, I'm quite cool.
12:57 I'm cool. I could have got a defender,
12:59 but I didn't. And I think nowadays
13:02 having a new defender is being part of
13:04 the herd. Whereas this, I have seen
13:06 maybe one or two on the road. I really
13:08 don't see many at all. Miles per gallon
13:10 wise, it's claimed from Toyota to be
13:13 about 26 mp gallon. Now, I'm pleased to
13:15 say that I've actually been getting
13:18 more. My average is 29.1 on this whole
13:20 tank. Now, that's a mixture of motorway
13:22 driving and also driving around town.
13:25 And I think for a diesel, for a big old
13:26 chunky diesel, I know we're used to
13:28 having great miles per gallon from
13:31 diesels, but this is a heavy big old
13:33 car. And I'm quite chuffed with 30 miles
13:36 per gallon, to be honest. I mean, the
13:38 Inos Grenadier was not as good on miles
13:40 per gallon. Although the engine is
13:43 underpowered, it doesn't scream at you.
13:45 You've got the sound of the diesel.
13:46 You've got that sort of trajectory
13:48 sound. And again, I've seen reviews
13:49 where people have been like, "Oh, it's
13:52 too loud. There's no soundproofing.
13:54 I like that it's a bit loud. If it
13:56 didn't, if it wasn't very loud, I'd be
13:58 like, "Oh, I'm just in any other car." I
14:00 like that it's got that diesel sound,
14:02 the tractor sound to it, because you're
14:04 in a Land Cruiser. I think we should
14:06 talk about the elephant in the room
14:08 because I've gone on the price briefly
14:10 at the beginning of the video, but this
14:12 car is £77,000
14:15 and that's by no means cheap, but you
14:17 get a heck of a lot of car for your
14:20 money. And for some reason, and I have
14:22 done some research into this, and I
14:23 think it's mainly down to the
14:26 reliability and the audience for this
14:28 car that there's all they're always in
14:30 demand, but please do add anything in
14:32 the comments if you have a take on it.
14:35 But these cars out of any other car seem
14:39 to hold their value so well. Even if you
14:41 got a 2003 Land Cruiser, you'd still be
14:45 looking minimum, absolutely minimum 10K.
14:48 Final thoughts on the Land Cruiser Invincible.
14:49 Invincible.
14:52 I absolutely love this car and I
14:55 understand the hype with it. Everything
14:57 just works and it's so nice to just get
15:00 in a car and go. I know there's been a
15:02 lot of talk about the engine being too
15:04 loud, the price being too high, but the
15:06 engine being too loud, I don't think is
15:09 an issue. For me personally, coming from
15:11 things like Land Rovers, I like a bit of
15:13 sound. I like a bit of character. I want
15:16 to hear the gears moving, and I don't
15:18 mind it. Yes, it could do with a little
15:21 bit more power. The Disco One's just
15:24 gone past. Sorry, got distracted. Yes,
15:25 it could do with a little bit more
15:29 power, but I still think it's a great
15:32 daily driver. It's so easy to drive. You
15:33 just get in and go. And people have said
15:36 about the gearbox. Again, I haven't seen
15:37 a problem with it, but then I am used to
15:39 old Land Rovers and things. So, I think
15:42 this is a brilliant daily. Price-wise,
15:45 like I've said, the price for some
15:47 reason of these cars, well, I say some
15:48 reason, we know it's because of the
15:51 reliability of these cars. if you're
15:54 it's expensive, but the price doesn't
15:55 really go down. I think they hold their
15:57 value really well. And this is the sort
15:59 of car that you'll just have in the
16:01 family and it will just keep going on
16:03 forever and it will be with you at every
16:06 stage. So, thank you for watching and
16:08 let's see you guys in the next video. Bye.
