1:14 standard car starts at
1:16 125 000 pounds so what are you getting
1:18 for your cash maserati's designers have
1:21 added some extra bits of sporty trim to
1:23 the strafer model so you get a more
1:25 aggressive deeper rear bumper with a
1:28 fake diffuser believe me that does
1:30 nothing but you also get real carbon
1:32 fiber near the exhaust and there's quad
1:34 tail pipes as well there's also an
1:36 extended roof spoiler make it look more
1:38 sporty than standard car i should point
1:40 this out though this is the 20 model
1:43 year there's now a 21 model year levante
1:44 trafeo and it has slightly different
1:46 tail lights that's any difference the
1:49 key changes at the side include a trafeo
1:51 maserati badge black alloy wheels
1:53 standard you get 21 inches but you can
1:55 upgrade to 22s if you need that extra
1:58 inch also you get yellow brake calipers
2:00 nothing says sporty like yellow brake
2:03 calipers another key feature this look
2:05 carbon fiber side skirts it's hard to
2:07 tell the carbon fiber because they're
2:09 covered in grime it's not that we
2:10 couldn't be bothered to clean the car we
2:13 actually just upgraded to the optional
2:15 grime pack looks good on suvs you've got
2:17 some silver surrounds here on the wings
2:19 i'm not sure these vents actually do
2:21 anything though they're not completely
2:23 fake now on the 21 model yeah these are
2:24 in red you might be thinking might you
2:26 keep on going on about this 21 model
2:28 year car won't you just review that
2:30 instead well it's because the press
2:32 office don't have it on their fleet yet
2:33 even though it's on sale so they send us
2:35 this one oh well the most obvious
2:37 changes to the trophee here at the front
2:39 so you've got a much more aggressive
2:41 front bumper you've got bigger air
2:44 intakes a carbon fiber front splitter
2:46 there's some carbon fiber strikes here
2:48 as well and some air vents to help the
2:50 air flow over the wheels and down the
2:53 side of the car make it more aerodynamic
2:54 though i think it's going to help too
2:57 much you've also got these grill slats
3:00 just in black now and led matrix
3:01 headlights which will blank out part of
3:03 their beam so you don't dazzle on
3:05 drivers gets a new bonnet as well with
3:07 these air vents in here on the inside
3:10 the drafea model gets these big carbon
3:12 fiber paddle shifters you also get
3:14 common fiber trim here and here on the
3:17 door as well there's also trafeo floor
3:19 mats with a metal trefair badge on them
3:21 you also get a bespoke cloth for the
3:23 trophere model but the most important
3:26 thing are the trofeo seats these are
3:28 trimmed in lovely leather they feel
3:31 great to sit in and you get the troffeo
3:33 emblem there on the headdress as well
3:34 other than that it's just like a normal
3:36 maserati levante's cabin which means
3:37 that it sort of looks a bit
3:39 old-fashioned quality is generally
3:41 pretty solid though lots of leather
3:43 everywhere and storage is actually
3:45 really good look at that that's huge
3:48 that center console got some cup holders
3:51 here another storage area here with your
3:54 usbs a big glove box and a decent sized
3:57 door bin now the infotainment system
3:59 it's okay though once again it's been
4:01 the 2020 model it's actually been
4:02 updated for 2021 you get a slightly
4:04 different infotainment system the dials
4:06 analog dars for your rev counter and
4:08 your speedo though you do have a digital
4:10 display in between them here in the back
4:12 it's just like a normal levant in terms
4:14 of space so absolutely fine though with
4:16 the glass roof the headroom is limited
4:18 slightly but i'm still okay and people
4:20 over six foot will just about be fine but
4:20 but
4:23 as in the front you get the lovely super
4:25 duper soft high quality leather
4:27 i love these seats actually it's a bit
4:29 like you just sat on some really
4:32 expensive italian furniture it does feel
4:34 special more so than the equivalent germans
4:36 germans
4:37 before we talk about the boots i just
4:39 want to shout out to that number plate v8
4:40 v8
4:43 maserati or you could interpret that as
4:46 mighty still applicable so the capacity
4:48 is the same unsurprisingly as the normal
4:51 levante so you've got 580 liters and
4:52 it's a nice square usable shape and you
4:55 can fit in seven of these size carry-on
4:56 cases and they're easy to slide out
4:59 because there's no load lip however if
5:01 you needed to carry an extra 18 liters
5:03 you'd be a bit stuck wouldn't you and
5:04 therefore you'd probably want a porsche
5:07 cayenne coupe because it's big capacity
5:09 it's 598 liters and that handily brings
5:12 me on to five annoying things about this
5:14 maserati levante trafeo
5:16 if you want digital climate control for
5:18 the rear seats you have to pay an extra
5:20 1100 pounds which seems a little bit
5:23 mean when this car actually costs 125
5:25 grand to start with
5:28 this tricolore stripe it is painted on
5:29 so it's not a stick which is good what's
5:31 not so good though is that it doesn't
5:33 quite line up with the one on the roof
5:34 it feels like this should be a bit
5:36 further over that's especially annoying
5:38 when you consider it's an eight and a
5:41 half thousand pound option
5:42 european versions of the maserati
5:44 levante rafael are slightly less
5:47 powerful have a slightly lower top speed
5:49 and a little less quick to 60 miles an
5:51 hour than equivalents sold in the rest
5:53 of the world for whatever reason the car
5:55 key is really really heavy now this does
5:57 make it feel expensive but it's a real
5:59 pain to carry it around in your pocket
6:00 let you see just how heavy it is you
6:02 can't tell by just looking at it listen

6:28 actually the way this sounds is a good
6:30 thing and that brings me on to five cool
6:32 features about this maserati
6:34 the troffeo has upgraded brakes over the
6:36 normal levante so you have six piston
6:38 calipers at the front and 380 millimeter
6:40 discs the discs at the back are 330
6:42 millimeters also maserati has tuned the
6:44 car's abs system to just make it a
6:47 little bit more sporty
6:48 you get a limited slip differential at
6:51 the rear axle to help make sure that the
6:53 tyre with the most grip gets the most
6:56 power that also helps in slingshotting
6:57 you out of the corner
6:59 as well as the normal and sport driving
7:02 mode you also get a coarser driving mode
7:03 of course there is italian for a race
7:05 and that sets the car up in its most
7:07 aggressive settings for some really
7:08 serious driving
7:10 the car's height adjustable air
7:12 suspension has been recalibrated so it's
7:14 stiffer than on the normal avante and
7:16 when you go in the car's sportiest
7:19 setting it lowers down by 35 millimeters
7:21 also the four-wheel drive system
7:24 normally drives along in rear drive only
7:26 but it can send 50 of the power to the
7:28 front wheels if you need that extra grip
7:31 this is the reason you buy this suv what
7:34 we have here is a ferrari 3.8 liter twin
7:37 turbo v8 now maserati has changed a few
7:38 of the internals and some of the
7:41 ancillaries but this engine was built in
7:43 marine airline look at it as well you
7:44 can tell it's got like the red rocker
7:46 covers that you expect in a ferrari it's
7:47 pretty much the same engine as in the
7:49 port athena the performance is good as
7:53 well 580 horsepower and 730 newton
7:54 meters of torque okay i'm going to
7:56 launch this thing see how quickly it
7:58 will do not to 60 miles an hour supposed
8:00 to do it in 4.1 seconds but what's the
8:02 reality says launch it put it into drive
8:04 pull up on the left paddle

8:25 3.8 seconds that is well quick i thought
8:27 it was going to be slow than they
8:28 claimed that's normally how the italians

8:35 let's be honest this is a big heavy suv
8:38 weighs over 2.1 tons but it's a sporty
8:41 suv so let's see what it's like on a
8:43 twisty road i'm going to put the drive
8:46 select mode into sport factory press it
8:48 again going to
8:50 coarser so it's going to reduce my
8:52 safety systems a bit and lower the
8:54 suspension as well as stiffening it and
8:55 adding weight to the steering so this
8:58 all-wheel drive system is mainly rear
8:59 drive when you're just driving along
9:01 normally and then if it detects some
9:02 slip it will send some power to the
9:04 front wheels for a big old thing it goes
9:06 on corners pretty well while the
9:08 suspension has got stiffer it doesn't
9:10 feel overly stiff and it does feel a bit
9:12 lively this thing but this engine is
9:14 just insanely good
9:17 oh i love it perhaps any weakness really
9:19 is the steering i'm not really feeling
9:21 much through it just seems artificial
9:23 but this car is gripping and it's not
9:25 leaning much in these bends it's all
9:27 about the engine though really you just
9:28 buy this car for the engine you want an
9:32 suv you want a ferrari bread engine
9:34 oh the response and the sound
9:36 this sounds better than the german v8s
9:38 it just does and the rest of the car is
9:39 just about good enough to make it
9:41 acceptable you can have a bit of fun in
9:43 this big brute though i do think that an
9:46 audi rsq8 is just sharper to drive and

9:56 levante troffeo is like on the motorway
9:58 this car is fitted with the optional
10:00 upgraded cruise control system so it'll
10:01 do that thing where it'll keep you a
10:04 safe distance from the car in front and
10:05 steer to keep you in line so let's just
10:07 try it out i'll just engage it now there
10:09 we go put the auto steer on
10:11 so we're engaged i can alter the
10:12 distance on from the car in front by
10:14 pressing this button and it will change
10:16 that distance bring my speed up make a
10:18 bit quicker the way the steering works
10:19 oh it's complaining because i'm not
10:21 touching the steering wheel and rightly
10:23 so the way it works is it's a bit jerky
10:29 the way it does it to keep you in line
10:30 it's not the smoothest could be better
10:33 for that 2 500 pounds price really it
10:35 works fine enough and if you're doing
10:37 long distances in this car it is an
10:38 option you're probably going to want to
10:41 tick let's face it options on a maserati
10:42 you can't expect them to be cheap no
10:44 matter what they are
10:46 finally let's see what this levante
10:48 troffeo is like around town do you know
10:51 what i thought the suspension would be a
10:53 disaster at low speed but it's not it
10:55 actually goes over bumps pretty well it
10:58 does have a firm edge to it so you do
11:00 get rocked side to side occasionally
11:02 when you hit a bump but it's not bad
11:04 it's all right they're doing a decent
11:05 job and there's a certain way to drive
11:07 this car it's it's like this in town
11:09 that's just at the right height this
11:10 armrest here's at the right height it's
11:13 it's perfect can i get around the mini
11:15 roundabout you doing doing it this way
11:17 though trying to remain cool
11:18 oh oh no
11:20 oh no i'm gonna have to mount a curb the
11:22 turning circle isn't quite good enough
11:25 and i've lost my call because
11:27 i've had to sit forward like a normal
11:29 person thankfully the steering is really
11:31 light so not so great when you're going
11:32 really quickly which is kind of the idea
11:34 with this car but round town brilliant
11:35 i'm going to do something else back to
11:37 the front as well that's the gear shift
11:39 so now i'm going to change the pedals
11:41 actually it's pretty decent mould delay

12:28 alone yet the rest of the car is
12:30 actually pretty good as well
