0:51 successfully engaging in what's called
0:53 the overtime contingency allowing them
0:55 access to their bodies in the outside
0:58 world it's revealed that r is in fact
1:00 helena egan the daughter of lumen
1:02 industries ceo james egan who we've
1:04 actually seen in mannequin form back in
1:07 episode 3. her being severed is all part
1:09 of a publicity stunt to show how safe
1:19 this is why milcik is so happy when
1:21 helena or should i say helly arrives on
1:23 her first day when we heard you were
1:26 coming here it was like a miracle
1:28 it's amazing what you're doing it's also
1:31 why we see him taking photographs of her
1:33 in the office throughout her stay the
1:35 act of severing is highly contentious
1:37 with several states banning the practice
1:39 altogether so helena has taken this
1:42 drastic step to show the world how we
1:44 shouldn't fear it the problem is
1:46 severing is cruel helena's innie is so
1:48 desperate to escape she tries to kill
1:50 herself but i think there's something
1:53 deeper here that helena is also doing
1:55 this to appease her father as we've seen
1:58 in the hall of perpetuity lumen ceos all
2:00 belong to the eagan family although we
2:02 haven't seen the real helena in the
2:04 outside world she must have a tremendous
2:06 sense of familial obligation and pride
2:09 something her father reiterates to her
2:10 the grandfather would cherish what
2:13 you've done the grandfather here likely
2:16 refers to kier egan the founder of lumen
2:18 and fun fact the name kier derives from
2:20 gaelic meaning the dark one helena
2:23 ironically means shining light in greek
2:25 while heli literally means hellish check
2:27 out this shot here where we can see the
2:30 word hell clearly made out i guess it
2:31 makes sense then that the first image we
2:33 see of helly is of her on a
2:36 coffin-shaped table in an episode titled
2:38 good news about hell speaking of
2:39 helena's father i should also mention
2:41 that those who attend the break room
2:43 often recount hearing something in the
2:45 background while reciting the
2:48 compunction statement that weird apology
2:49 thing helly recites into the mirror
2:51 dylan says that when he's in the break
2:53 room he's heard a baby crying which
2:55 could be one of his two other children
2:57 if milk chick is to believe that dylan
3:00 has three kids helly however heard the
3:02 sound of a mumbling angry man could that
3:05 person be her father in her brief
3:07 interaction in the outside world were
3:09 also reintroduced to gabby and angelo
3:12 arteta gabby was the woman devin met who
3:13 underwent severance so she wouldn't have
3:16 to live through the pain of giving birth
3:18 her husband is a pro-severant senator so
3:20 it makes sense that someone like helena
3:22 and the eagans would want to be close to
3:24 people in positions of power in helly's
3:26 final moments as her audi she proclaims
3:29 to everyone at the egan family gala that
3:30 everything they know about severance is
3:33 a lie and that the innies are being
3:35 tortured now this may seem like a deeply
3:37 calamitous event but keep in mind this
3:39 is a private friends and family of the
3:41 egan's event this little blip can be
3:43 easily covered up plus if anything does
3:45 leak to the media it's likely to be
3:47 suppressed as lumen seems to have
3:50 insiders in all aspects of the media on
3:52 march 18th apple released a companion
3:54 book to the tv series called severance
3:56 the lexington letter i'll leave a link
3:58 to it in the description below for those
4:00 interested it's a tell-all story about a
4:02 woman who was able to bypass the code
4:05 detectors and pass along notes to her
4:07 audi she reached out to a reporter at a
4:09 newspaper to tell her story and expose
4:11 illumine but one of the editors there
4:14 suppressed the story the name of that
4:16 editor jim milchek if this book is to be
4:19 believed it implies that seth milchik
4:22 has family on the outside that also is
4:23 involved in covering up lumen's
4:26 nefarious deeds perhaps even more
4:28 mysterious than helena is irving's audi
4:31 on the inside irving is arguably keir's
4:33 biggest supporter being able to recite
4:35 passages from the handbook from memory
4:37 and a stalwart rule follower it's pretty
4:39 interesting then that on the outside
4:42 he's the opposite trying to expose lumen
4:43 let's take a look at some of the
4:45 interesting things we find in his
4:48 apartment first there's his dog radar
4:50 this was actually hinted at back in
4:52 episode 3 when irving attends a wellness
4:55 meeting your audi likes the sound of
4:58 radar irving also has a number of what
5:00 appears to be military medals we aren't
5:02 sure if these are his or those of his
5:04 fathers who seems to have been in the
5:07 u.s navy if irving was in the military
5:09 it's possible he chose to sever to
5:12 escape some form of ptsd in fact art
5:15 therapy is one of the ways in which ptsd
5:17 sufferers process traumatic events in a
5:19 new way i'll get back to his black
5:21 elevator paintings later on in the video
5:23 but the big shocker here is that irving
5:25 has a locked chest filled with
5:28 interesting goodies first is this news
5:30 article about a man suing lumen for
5:32 workplace injuries claiming that lumen
5:34 hid the real cause of the loss of
5:36 feeling in his finger he received a
5:38 letter on his windshield explaining that
5:40 it was due to a printer-related injury
5:42 similar to when mark got one on his
5:44 windshield after heli threw an intercom
5:46 at him more importantly is this list of
5:48 severed employees that irving has been
5:51 tracking here we can see dylan g's name
5:53 but it's actually the names we never see
5:55 that are more interesting there is no
5:58 mention of miss casey or mark's wife
6:00 gemma scout and i'll get to why that may
6:02 be in a bit it's completely possible
6:05 that irving has or was working with
6:08 former lumen employee pedi and or ragabe
6:10 in episode 3 pity tells mark that
6:12 someone helped him escape and that there
6:14 are people out there wanting to expose a
6:17 lumen this could be ragabe irving or
6:19 both petey even says to mark that at
6:24 you're my very good friend this is such
6:27 a weird thing to say it's almost as if
6:29 petey is implying he has a best friend
6:31 on the inside that isn't mark and that
6:33 person could be irving along with the
6:35 employee list is a map of kier
6:37 pennsylvania with a number of locations
6:39 of kear employees or at least that's
6:42 what's implied considering bert goodman
6:44 the man irving fell in love with on the
6:46 inside is on that map now it may be
6:49 coincidence but all the names on the map
6:51 are men irving will later drive to
6:53 bert's but has his heart crushed to see
6:55 him with another man and it's going to
6:57 be super awkward when bert opens the
6:59 door to find irving who is banging on it
7:01 transformed back into his regular audi
7:04 self in season 2 expect us to find out
7:06 more about irving's investigation at the
7:08 end of episode 7 we learn that miss
7:10 casey the wellness counselor is mark
7:12 scout's wife gemma it's only when he's
7:14 transported to the audi world that he
7:16 finds this out and that she's still
7:18 alive the whole reason mark chose to
7:20 have his life severed was to escape the
7:22 pain of dealing with his wife's death
7:24 the first scene we see of mark is him
7:27 grieving her in his car using a tissue
7:29 to wipe away his tears a tissue he'll
7:31 find in his innies pocket and throw away
7:33 like nothing into a nearby waste
7:35 receptacle a metaphor for him throwing
7:38 away his grief but as his sister tells
7:40 him this is only a band-aid solution for
7:43 something much larger forgetting about
7:44 her for eight hours a day isn't the same thing
7:46 thing
7:48 as healing if mark is truly going to
7:50 heal he'll need to realize that
7:52 severance isn't the solution there isn't
7:54 much we know about miss casey she
7:57 supposedly died in a car accident but my
7:59 guess is that lumen picked her up to be
8:01 experimented on after all lumens started
8:03 as a healthcare company and likely owns
8:05 many hospitals unlike the other
8:08 employees we never see miss casey in the
8:11 outside world i believe she never leaves
8:13 lumen that dark hallway with an elevator
8:16 that only points downward that may be
8:18 where she lives in episode 3 petey says
8:21 he found a department at lumen where no
8:22 one leaves and on his map he has a
8:25 section that reads some people might
8:27 live here if this is the case miss casey
8:30 lives in a perpetual state of severness
8:32 never being able to return to her real
8:34 outy self if a company were able to do
8:37 this to one person think of the effects
8:39 it could have on millions jane egan
8:41 tells heli that he one day wishes every
8:43 person on the planet will have one of
8:45 these chips in them which hints at what
8:48 lumen's end game is full control and
8:50 this leads me into what those numbers
8:53 macro refinement spends all their time
8:54 inputting for more insight into this we
8:56 have to go back to the lexington letter
8:59 i mentioned in the first section in it
9:00 the ini whistleblower notes that she
9:03 finished a macro refinement file called
9:06 lexington at 2 30 pm just two minutes
9:08 later a truck belonging to a lumen
9:11 competitor dorner therapeutics exploded
9:13 destroying several dorner devices and
9:15 killing six people although the
9:17 whistleblower concedes this could just
9:19 be a coincidence the timing is very
9:21 close could this encrypted data the
9:23 macro refinement department sorts be
9:25 triggering dangerous events in the
9:28 outside world such as a bomb going off
9:31 hence the secrecy behind their jobs this
9:33 may also explain some of the items we
9:35 see optics and design creating with
9:37 their 3d printers it's noted that last
9:39 week they were instructed to make items
9:42 that were quote particularly violent
9:44 these included hatchets but this week's
9:47 it's watering cans so who knows the
9:49 numbers themselves are sorted into four
9:52 categories w-o numbers that make you sad
9:55 fc numbers associated with happiness and
9:58 joy dr numbers that scare you and m a
10:01 numbers that make you angry these line
10:04 up with cures for tempers woe frolic
10:06 dread and malice keir believed the four
10:08 tempers make up every human soul and
10:10 depending on what kind of race you have
10:12 it determines your character it is said
10:14 that kier was able to tame these tempers
10:17 which gave him power and that power he
10:19 wants to pass on to his children the
10:21 four tempers are represented in physical
10:23 form by the weird dancers dylan is
10:25 treated to after his waffle party one of
10:28 these is a goat and goats appear all
10:30 over the show most notably in the goat
10:32 department and in weird background
10:34 sculptures historically goats have
10:36 symbolized everything from virility and
10:39 sacrifice to satanism so it's not really
10:40 clear yet why lumen would have a whole
10:43 area reserved for raising them one of
10:44 the more interesting characters this
10:47 season is miss cobell or should i say
10:49 selvig who straddles the innie and audi
10:51 world at face value it seems like she's
10:54 a valuable lumen employee even telling
10:56 helly before she goes on stage that what
10:58 she's done will result in her and the
11:00 other innies being tortured but there's
11:02 another theory out there that frames
11:04 cobell in a completely different light
11:06 one that actually has her being lumen's
11:09 worst nightmare tell me more we know
11:11 that cobell has a shrine to cure or at
11:13 least that's what we think it is what if
11:15 it's actually a shrine to her mother we
11:17 get this brief shot of a breathing tube
11:19 and a hospital tag with what appears to
11:21 be her mother's name in the lexington
11:23 letter we learned that these breathing
11:25 tubes were made by lumen and they had
11:27 defects so could miss cobalt be planning
11:30 revenge on lumen for the death of her
11:32 mother this would explain her huge
11:34 freakout after being fired she had spent
11:36 years working her way up in lumen
11:38 undercover gathering info and now it was
11:41 all going to be for nothing by stopping
11:43 hallie and calling milcek to interrupt
11:46 dylan kobel is maneuvering her way back
11:48 into lumen i mean they have to bring her
11:50 back as a reward for single-handedly
11:51 stopping what could have been one of the
11:54 most disastrous events in lumen history
11:55 this would also put her in a position
11:57 next season to control the innies and
12:00 work alongside them to bring lumen down
12:01 one of the weirdest moments in the
12:03 finale was when mark and patton
12:05 discovered devin's baby and patton
12:07 hustles past mark exclaiming to everyone
12:09 that he was the one to find the baby
12:11 first like who says that who even cares
12:13 so long as the baby is found there is
12:16 something almost childlike about all of
12:18 rickon's friends we have rebecc who has
12:20 a bird who pecks at her head patton who
12:22 can't even recall why historians before
12:25 world war ii didn't call the great war
12:27 world war one because world war ii hadn't
12:28 hadn't
12:31 happened yet of course that's absolutely
12:33 duh and everyone seems infatuated with
12:35 rickon's obviously terrible book but
12:37 when audi mark meets rickon it's like
12:40 he's meeting his hero that's because his
12:42 book the uur has become a sort of
12:45 anti-lumen handbook for him remember it
12:47 has lines like
12:50 your job needs you what if rickon's
12:51 friends are all severed people who have
12:53 been reintroduced back into the public
12:55 with wiped memories hence why they don't
12:57 have a lot of basic knowledge and have
12:59 warped opinions that have been shaped by
13:01 their lives at lumen patton saying he
13:02 found the baby first is like him wanting
13:05 to be rewarded for doing a good job just
13:07 like workers at lumen are rewarded with
13:09 egg and melon parties for their good
13:11 work this would also explain why they're
13:13 also taken in by ricken's book because
13:15 it's giving them alternate opinions
13:17 about the world other than the ones
13:19 they've been indoctrinated with so is
13:21 everyone shipped i don't think so
13:23 however i think a lot more of them are
13:25 than we're led to believe there are two
13:27 other things i want to mention before we
13:29 end the first is when james egan says
13:31 the words the revolving james egan tells
13:33 helena that he looks forward to her
13:35 being alongside him during this event we
13:37 don't really know what this is but it
13:39 seems to be some sort of ceremony if i
13:41 were to hazard a guess it's when a new
13:43 successor takes control of the company
13:45 perhaps at the old successor's death and
13:47 the old one becomes remembered as a wax
13:50 mannequin in the hall of perpetuity jane
13:52 would pass on the ceo title to helena
13:54 and the process becomes like a revolving
13:56 door with one egan family member
13:58 replacing another the second thing i
13:59 want to discuss which has huge
14:01 implications for season two is mark
14:04 telling devon about lumen this is our
14:07 first non-lumen non-severed individual
14:08 who now knows about the dangers of this
14:10 program she's also just found out that
14:12 her sister-in-law the person who helped
14:14 make her brother quote-unquote wonderful
14:17 is still alive expect her to join forces
14:19 with some of our other characters to
14:21 take lumen on i had an absolute blast
14:23 watching this first season i will be
