0:02 What's up, guys? My name is Ryan and I
0:03 recently turned from exploring the
0:05 country of Chile and I want to share
0:06 with you my favorite places and
0:10 experiences. So, here's my Chile top [Applause]
0:13 [Applause]
0:17 10. Located in South America, Chile is a
0:18 massive country offering some of the
0:20 most diverse landscapes on the
0:22 continent. From the scenery of Patagonia
0:24 to the other worldly landscapes of the
0:26 Atakama Desert, Chile is waiting to be
0:28 experienced. Let's start this video off
0:30 at the capital of Chile, Santiago.
0:32 Located in the center of the country,
0:34 Santiago is a massive city. It was
0:36 founded in 1541 and today it's a large
0:38 city in the country with about 40% of
0:40 the population living there. One of the
0:42 highlights of Santiago is the Grand Tur
0:44 Kosina. It's the tallest building in
0:47 South America with a height of 984 ft
0:50 and was completed in 2013. A fun thing
0:52 that you can do in Santiago is visit the
0:54 Sero San Crystal Ball. It's this hill
0:56 that overlooks the capital and you can
0:57 take up a gondola to reach the top of
0:59 it. Another thing that I like about
1:01 Santiago is that it's close to the Andes
1:03 Mountains. They overlook the city and
1:04 you can visit some really cool places
1:07 nearby. One interesting spot is Alesso
1:09 Dam. It's about a 2-hour drive from
1:11 Santiago and it's this huge reservoir
1:12 nestled in the Andes Mountains.
1:14 Afterwards, we're going to venture to
1:16 one of Chile's most unique places,
1:18 Easter Island, also known as Rapanui.
1:20 Easter Island is located 3,000
1:22 kilometers off the coast of Chile,
1:23 making it one of the most remote places
1:25 on Earth. Now, to get there, it can only
1:27 be accessed by taking a 5 and a half
1:29 hour flight from Santiago. Now, it's
1:30 believed that the island was settled
1:32 around the year 1200 AD by Polynesians
1:34 who settled from French Polynesia. What
1:36 makes the island so mysterious and
1:38 famous is the Moai statues. There are
1:40 about 900 Moai on the island with the
1:42 tallest reaching over 10 m high and
1:44 weighing over 80 tons. It's a mystery
1:46 how the statues were transported, but
1:47 it's believed that logs were used to
1:49 move the moai across the island. One of
1:51 my favorite places to see the moai is at
1:53 Au Tongariki. There's 15 statues
1:55 perfectly lined up with a dramatic view
1:57 of the coast. Another interesting place
1:59 on the island is Ranokua. It's this
2:00 massive volcanic crater on the
2:02 southeastern side of the island. And
2:04 this place is just so fascinating. After
2:06 Easter Island, we're going to head back
2:08 to Chile's mainland to visit the Atakama
2:10 Desert located in northern Chile. The
2:12 Atakama Desert is the driest place on
2:13 Earth. There are some places that are
2:15 believed to not have received rain for
2:17 over 400 years. Now, to get to Atakama
2:19 Desert, there's a few options. You can
2:21 fly into the Colama airport and then
2:23 head to the town of San Pedro de
2:25 Atakama, which has a lot of attractions.
2:26 The Valley of the Moon is one of the
2:28 most popular places in Atakama. It's
2:30 located just a few minutes outside of
2:31 San Pedro. And the Valley Moon is home
2:33 to these incredible geological
2:35 formations that look amazing, especially
2:37 during sunrise or sunset. Another
2:40 interesting place is Pedros Rojas. It's
2:41 located about two hours drive from San
2:43 Pedro as this really cool body of water
2:45 with the unique rocks and the elevation
2:48 here is over 12,000 feet which is pretty
2:49 crazy. Another fascinating place in the
2:52 Atakama Desert is the Laa National Park.
2:54 It's located in the very northern part
2:55 of Chile and to get there you could fly
2:57 into the town of Ara and then from there
2:59 make about a 3-hour drive. Laa is
3:02 situated at an elevation around 15,000
3:04 ft and there's a few lakes and the
3:05 scenery here is just so bizarre,
3:07 especially with the Parina Kota volcano
3:09 as a backdrop. After we're going to
3:11 visit one of the most extreme places in
3:14 the Atakama desert, Ohos del Salado with
3:15 an elevation of
3:18 22,615 ft. Ohos del Salado is the
3:20 highest volcano on Earth and also the
3:22 highest point in Chile. It is possible
3:24 to climb the volcano and it takes
3:26 anywhere from 8 to 15 days to summit the
3:27 mountain due to harsh weather and the
3:29 climatization. Now, to get there, you
3:31 can fly into the Copappo airport and
3:33 it's about a 3-hour drive. I really like
3:35 the area around the volcano. The
3:36 surrounding landscapes are stunning.
3:38 There's high altitude lakes and lots of
3:40 wildlife such as flamingos and llamas.
3:42 Aside from the desert, Atakama and
3:44 northern Chile have a really beautiful
3:46 coastline. The stark contrast of the
3:47 arid mountains against the Pacific Ocean
3:49 is very unique. Now, there's some big
3:50 cities along the coast such as
3:53 Antapagasta and Aik. I think the sand
3:55 dunes that are around
3:58 Akim and get a great view of the area.
3:59 Afterwards, we're going to leave the
4:01 desert to visit the Lake District.
4:03 Located in southern Chile above
4:05 Patagonia, the Lake District offers some
4:06 of the country's most beautiful scenery.
4:08 It's a landful of pristine rivers,
4:10 snowcap volcanoes, and amazing lakes.
4:12 One of my favorite places in the Lake
4:15 District is Kongo National Park. Located
4:16 about a 2-hour drive from Tamuko. I
4:18 think Kongo is one of the most beautiful
4:20 and unique places in Chile. The crowning
4:23 feature of the park is a Yamma volcano.
4:24 It's one of the most active volcanoes in
4:26 Chile and has a height of
4:29 10,253 ft. It's erupted many times in
4:31 the previous centuries with its most
4:33 recent in 2009. Now, my favorite feature
4:35 of the area is the Arukaria trees, also
4:37 known as the monkey puzzle tree. I think
4:38 they are some of the most peculiar
4:40 shaped trees in the world. It's official
4:42 tree of Chile, and I think they just
4:43 look so cool. It's one of the most
4:46 scenic backdrops with the Arukaria trees
4:48 and the volcano in the distance. Another
4:49 really cool town in the Lake District is
4:51 Pukon. Located about an hour and a half
4:53 from Tamuko, Pukon is this pictures town
4:56 on Lago Vure Rica as a perfect place to
4:57 base yourself as you explore the Lake
4:59 District. There's so many attractions
5:01 nearby and I love the backdrop of the
5:02 Via Rico volcano which is one of the
5:04 most active volcanoes in the country
5:06 last erupting in 2015. Another
5:08 incredible volcano in the Lake District
5:10 is Oserno. Located about an hour and a
5:12 half outside of Portomont, Oserno is one
5:13 of the most iconic volcanoes in the
5:15 region of its distinctive shape. It has
5:18 a height of 8,71 ft. And what I like
5:20 about it is that you can see it from all
5:22 over the region. I really like the view
5:24 of the Oorno volcano across the nearby
5:26 lake. I also like that you can drive up
5:27 Oernorno and there's a ski lift that can
5:29 take you even higher up the mountain.
5:30 After we're going to go on a drive on
5:38 Australic drives in South America. The
5:39 route starts in Puerto Mo and drives
5:41 through rural Patagonia and ends in
5:44 Villa O'Higgins. According to Google
5:46 Maps, it's at least a 26-hour drive, and
5:47 you'll pass through some of the most
5:49 incredible places in Chile. Be aware
5:50 that a lot of the sections of the road
5:52 remains unpaved, but there's hundreds of
5:54 places to explore. An amazing place
5:56 you'll pass on the route is the Kaat
5:58 National Park. It's located about 11
6:00 hours from Porto, and the park is home
6:02 to the hanging glacier falls, and it's a
6:03 fairly easy walk to get to the
6:05 viewpoint. Another stop along the way is
6:07 the Marble Caves, located on the
6:10 turquoise waters of Laco Carrera. The
6:11 marble caves are some of the most
6:13 fascinating geological features of
6:15 Patagonia. It's these massive rocks of
6:16 marble that have been sculpted by the
6:18 wind and wave the lake for thousands of
6:20 years. The best way to experience the
6:22 caves is by boat and you can also take a
6:23 kayak tour from the nearby town of
6:25 Puerto Rio Tranilo. There's so many
6:28 incorral places along the carer Austral.
6:29 While we're in the Patagonia, we're
6:30 going to head to my favorite place in
6:33 Chile, Torres Delpine. I'd say Torres
6:35 Delpane is one of the most famous places
6:37 in the country and with reason. Now, to
6:39 get there, we first flew into Puna Rees,
6:41 and from there, it was a 4-hour drive.
6:42 When we arrived, I couldn't believe the
6:44 beauty of this place. We checked into
6:46 our hotel just outside the park, and we
6:48 had an incredible view of the Los Cornos
6:50 Mountains. They are seriously some of
6:51 the most incredible mountains I've ever
6:53 came across. The next day, we drove
6:55 inside the national park. It was $55 a
6:57 person for a 3-day pass. My favorite
7:00 place was the area around Lake Poe, and
7:02 it has this striking blue color. The day
7:03 we were there, the wind was blowing so
7:05 hard it was creating waves along the
7:07 lake. As you're driving along, there are
7:09 a few places you could stop. There was
7:11 this one lookout we hiked up to, and it
7:12 gave incredible view of Los Cornos
7:14 Mountains. The wind here was just
7:16 unbelievable. As you keep driving down
7:17 the road, there's this island that is
7:19 connected by a bridge that you could
7:21 also walk on and offers amazing views of
7:23 the lake in Los Cornos. I mean, this
7:25 area is just absolutely amazing. Now,
7:26 one of the main reasons people come to
7:28 the area is to do the hike to Miridor
7:30 Basil Las. It's one of the most popular
7:32 hikes in all of Patagonia. It's about a
7:35 12.5 mile roundtrip track with about
7:37 3,000 ft of elevation gain. We start at
7:38 around 8:00 a.m. and I definitely
7:40 recommend starting this hike no later
7:42 than 11:00 because the last section to
7:44 the lake closes at 3 and it takes about
7:46 4 hours to get there. Anyways, the first
7:48 pit was a flat lock until we reached the
7:49 incline of the mountain. Once we got to
7:51 the top of that section, it was a
7:52 beautiful view into the valley. About
7:55 halfway, we came to the Chilean Rafuio.
7:56 This is where people can get something
7:58 to eat or spend the night. We kept going
8:00 and after about 3 hours, we got to the
8:02 hardest section of the trek. It's an
8:04 uphill scramble and it was a challenge,
8:06 but once you reach the top, you're
8:07 rewarded with one of the most incredible
8:09 views of the Tories Mountains. We spent
8:11 a good hour just enjoying the view and
8:12 also recovering from the hard hike. I
8:14 mean, there's very few places as epic as
8:16 this. After, we headed back down, and
8:18 the whole trek took us 8 hours to do. I
8:20 have to say it was one of the hardest
8:22 day hikes I've ever done in my life, but
8:23 well worth it. After, we're going to
8:25 search for Patagonia's most elusive
8:27 animal, the puma. One thing special
8:29 about this area in Chile is that it's
8:30 one of the best places in the world to
8:32 see pumas. If you're lucky, you might
8:34 see one in the tourist dopane national
8:36 park, but we did an expedition with Leon
8:38 Amara, which takes place on the private
8:40 land right outside of Torres Dane, and
8:42 it was one of the craziest wildlife
8:44 experiences I've ever had. We started at
8:46 5:00 a.m. and headed off to find the
8:48 pumas. A guide had spotted one. So, once
8:50 we got close, we started hiking in that
8:52 direction. And after a few minutes, we
8:54 came across this puma just perfectly
8:56 perched on a hill. As I was filming it,
8:58 it started walking towards us and the
9:00 guy told us not to move and it just
9:02 walked right past us. I mean, it was an
9:04 absolute adrenaline rush. We filmed the
9:06 great puma for a bit and then this other
9:08 brown one came out of nowhere and they
9:10 got in a little
9:12 fight. After it found a nice place to
9:14 rest under the rock. We came across some
9:16 more pumas and got some incredible shots
9:18 of them with the surrounding landscapes.
9:20 The main prey of the puma is guanakos,
9:22 which are these large llama-like
9:23 creatures, which we also saw a good
9:25 amount of. Towards the end, we got
9:27 really lucky and found a mother mountain
9:29 line with our cub and were able to film
9:30 them for a few minutes until they headed
9:32 off. And it was an absolute incredible
9:34 experience. And our guide said that we
9:35 were extremely lucky that day because
9:37 sometimes you might only see one or none
9:39 at all. So, I'm super thankful we saw a
9:41 bunch of pumas. I will say it was very
9:43 expensive, but it's 100% worth it to see
9:45 pumas in the wild. For our final
9:47 destination, we're going to visit the
9:49 fjords of Patagonia. If you look at
9:51 Patagonia from space, you can see this
9:53 huge uninhabited region on Chile side,
9:54 and it's home to some of the most
9:56 unbelievable and untouched scenery on
9:58 Earth. The Chilean fjords are extremely
10:00 remote, and there are no roads or
10:01 airports. And the only way to reach the
10:03 fjords is by taking a boat. Special
10:05 thanks to my buddy Victor Pausnov. He
10:06 spent a good amount of time sailing
10:08 throughout Chile's fjords and captured
10:09 some of the most incredible footage.
10:11 I'll link a video of his adventure in
10:12 the description below. One of my
10:14 favorite features of Patagonia's fjords
10:16 is the glaciers. There are so many named
10:18 and unnamed glaciers that very few have
10:19 seen. I'd say the best way to experience
10:21 the fjords is by taking a expedition
10:23 cruise that is specialized in exploring
10:25 this region of the world. There are very
10:27 few places that are raw and as beautiful
10:29 as the fjords of Patagonia. Well, that
10:31 is it for my Chile top 10. There's so
10:32 many incredible places in this country,
10:34 so I'll have to make a part two. Let me
10:35 know where your favorite place is in
10:37 Chile in the comments below. You can
10:39 find me on Instagram and Tik Tok at
10:42 Shirley. It's Ryan and we will see you later.
