0:05 hey guys chris here for new tech wood
0:08 and today we're talking siding new tech
0:10 wood has an amazing siding system
0:11 actually multiple systems that we're
0:13 going to talk about here in this video
0:15 they come in a wide variety of colors
0:16 that you can see laid out here on the
0:19 table and we're always adding new colors
0:20 so make sure and check back on the
0:22 website to see what new and exciting
0:24 things we've got coming your way now a
0:26 lot of companies that do composite
0:28 siding they basically take their deck
0:30 material throw it up on the wall and say
0:33 hey we made siding not so much at new
0:35 tech wood we have a really advanced
0:36 tongue and groove system that we're
0:38 going to get into in a little bit more
0:39 detail here in a little while but just
0:41 to give you a quick indicator you can
0:43 see everything is designed to fit together
0:44 together
0:47 now unlike an open rain screen system
0:48 that allows a lot of water to come
0:52 through our system is a completely
0:55 closed true rain screen system
0:58 meaning that very little water is going
0:59 to come through you can see how the top piece
1:00 piece
1:02 overlaps the bottom piece and it
1:04 eliminates that gap that's what we're
1:06 talking about with the true rain screen
1:09 system now these materials are stain and
1:11 uv resistant they're super long lasting
1:13 they're ultra low maintenance they're
1:16 split resistant mold resistant pest resistant
1:17 resistant
1:19 what it is it's a capped wood and
1:22 plastic composite inside here it's made
1:24 from recycled materials so it's awesome
1:25 if you're trying to do a green build
1:28 then outside we have this engineered
1:31 natural coating for a very realistic
1:34 wood grain and it's really beautiful
1:35 now all of the things that we just
1:38 talked about for our all-weather system
1:39 which is kind of like the traditional
1:42 normal siding material that you think of
1:45 also applies to our european system now
1:48 our european system consists of belgian
1:49 belgian and
1:50 and
1:52 norwegian models
1:53 what this does is it gives you some
1:56 really cool detail on the exterior or
1:58 interior of your home or business
2:00 we've seen some beautiful pictures from
2:02 our clients where they utilize the
2:04 all-weather they utilize the belgian
2:06 they utilize the norwegian and they put
2:08 it all on the outside and inside of
2:10 their building
2:12 all of these work really great on
2:14 ceilings as well and they really finish
2:16 off a room really finish off a porch or
2:18 a deck it gives some really cool
2:21 interest that you might not otherwise
2:23 get with a traditional material so don't
2:25 be afraid to get creative with it and
2:27 really kind of go to town on how you can
2:30 get the best look for your particular build
2:31 build
2:35 now we also have a wide variety of trim
2:36 pieces and this is one of the things
2:39 that really sets new tech wood apart
2:41 again it's not just decking that we
2:42 throw up on the side of the house and
2:44 say it's siding all of these trim pieces
2:46 are designed to give you beautiful
2:50 finish details across the board that all
2:51 match the different colors that we've
2:53 put together here for you today so pro
2:56 tip when you are ready to start your project
2:57 project
2:59 start with the trim start by trimming
3:01 out your windows and your doors before
3:03 you do your siding then you can work
3:05 your siding into the trim and it's going
3:07 to save you a lot of time and headaches
3:09 when you do mount the trim
3:11 you're going to pre-drill and mount the
3:14 trim directly to the building itself so
3:16 we've built in
3:18 space for you to do that we're going to
3:19 talk a little bit more about that in a
3:21 little while now
3:22 now
3:24 along those same lines of pre-drilling
3:25 and screwing in we know that you're
3:27 never going to have the exterior of your
3:30 building perfectly designed to wind up
3:32 with a finished run right at the top
3:35 bottom or side where you want it to be
3:37 so when you are ready to apply that
3:39 final piece to your project you're going
3:41 to just rip it down you're going to
3:43 pre-drill and you're going to screw that
3:46 in as well now on the european ones if
3:48 you do that you want to make sure that
3:50 you're doing that in the gap here in
3:53 that divot and you're not trying to
3:55 pre-drill and screw through the raised portion
4:00 the next thing i'm really excited to
4:02 talk to you about is the mounting system
4:04 so see these little clips here
4:07 these little guys are the reason why
4:10 this system works so well
4:11 when you're mounting your siding you
4:13 want to mount 16 inches on center for
4:15 walls and 12 inches for ceilings or soffits
4:17 soffits
4:18 so now i want to tell you about our
4:21 starter strips now these are longer
4:24 versions of the same clips that we have
4:26 to affix your siding to your wall and as
4:29 you can see your all-weather siding
4:30 seats down
4:34 into that starter strip the same way
4:35 that it would seat down into this clip
4:37 and you can see it's going to give you
4:40 that same offset so all of your siding
4:42 is going to be on the same plane and
4:44 even all the way up your wall
4:46 but what this allows you to do is have a
4:50 much longer seat for that first row to
4:53 sit down into at the base of your wall
4:56 at the top of your run on the last row
4:58 of siding closest to the soffit or
5:00 ceiling we have these rubber stoppers
5:02 these allow for the same offset as our
5:05 clips to keep that run at the same
5:07 consistent plane you install these
5:09 before you install your last row of siding
5:10 siding
5:12 so let's walk through this
5:14 little beauty here
5:15 you can see
5:17 it nests down
5:19 perfectly right there on the ledge
5:21 works great
5:23 same thing show you here
5:25 on our gentleman from norway
5:27 same thing there
5:29 we're going to go
5:34 bam
5:40 so let me talk to you about mounting
5:42 these guys a little bit
5:43 you're going to notice there's two
5:45 different holes
5:46 so you got
5:47 top hole
5:48 bottom hole
5:50 so when you're using this locking hole
5:52 to control that expansion and
5:55 contraction you only want to apply your
5:57 screw into that locking hole once per
5:59 board you can see as the boards overlap
6:02 that that clip is completely hidden and
6:03 then if you look on the back you see
6:05 that quarter inch separation that's just
6:09 part of this true rain screen system
6:11 so i want to take a minute to talk about
6:13 expansion and contraction so most things
6:16 on planet earth when they get hot they
6:18 expand and when they get cold they
6:21 contract and these boards are the same
6:22 they're going to flow to the area of
6:24 least resistance and therefore when you
6:26 lock it in the center that contraction
6:29 and expansion will flow evenly if you're
6:30 installing vertically you want to
6:32 install it at the top clip or top two
6:34 depending on the length of your board
6:36 because then you're working with gravity
6:39 to force that expansion and contraction
6:41 downward when you're installing
6:43 horizontally and it's the only board in
6:45 your run then you're going to install
6:47 that locking clip in the middle
6:49 therefore giving it equal contraction
6:51 and expansion on both sides
6:52 if you're installing two boards
6:54 horizontally side by side then we
6:56 recommend that you put the locking clip
6:58 close to the butt joint
7:00 that way you keep that joint with very
7:02 little movement and you push the
7:04 expansion and contraction towards the
7:05 ends where you're able to hide it now
7:08 let me show you what i mean by locking
7:11 clip so we have our siding and we have
7:16 for a non-locking clip installation your
7:18 screw is going to come in
7:20 right here
7:21 one screw right there and what that
7:23 allows to do it allows the board to
7:26 expand and contract now when you want to
7:28 lock this into place so you can control
7:30 the direction of expansion and contraction
7:32 contraction
7:34 you still put one here
7:36 but you're also
7:38 going to put a screw right here and
7:40 that's actually going to bite into the
7:41 siding itself
7:43 and then it's going to lock it into
7:46 place so that's what we mean by a
7:47 locking clip
7:50 now each board is 16 feet in length so
7:52 if you have runs with more than two
7:55 boards horizontally or 32 feet we
7:58 recommend you use our butt joint trim
8:00 piece to help hide that now i want to
8:02 talk to you a little bit about trim
8:04 what's awesome about this trim is it
8:06 really sets new techwood apart it allows
8:08 you to beautifully finish off your
8:10 building it's not just like i said it's
8:11 not just decking that's thrown up on the
8:13 side of the building and we say hey we
8:15 made siding we have a whole system in
8:17 place to help you beautifully finish off
8:18 your project i'm going to take you on a
8:20 little tour here of trim land so we're
8:22 going to start off with the trim that
8:23 we've designed to go with our
8:25 all-weather system first we're going to
8:28 start off with our interior corner here
8:30 now on all of our trim you can see we
8:33 have this quarter inch offset so we're
8:35 raising all of your siding up off the
8:37 surface of your building by a quarter inch
8:38 inch
8:40 and this is a true closed rain screen
8:42 system which is really going to give you
8:44 the advantage in your build what we've
8:46 done is we've given you this extra area
8:47 and if you can kind of see here in our
8:49 close-up camera
8:51 these all-weather siding boards are
8:54 going to slide right in there
8:56 and it allows for that expansion and
8:58 contraction that we've been talking about
8:59 about
9:01 and if you look at it from the front
9:03 we have this beautiful finished inside
9:05 corner so we're not trying to just kind
9:07 of miter edges we're not trying to just
9:09 force stuff we've thought it through
9:11 we've built it out ahead of time and
9:13 we've got your back with these trim
9:16 pieces similarly on the outside
9:19 we have your outside corner pieces
9:21 again just slides right in there
9:23 and if you look this way we've built in
9:26 that extra room for expansion and contraction
9:27 contraction
9:29 with these trim pieces when you go to
9:31 mount them to your building
9:34 you're going to pre-drill it
9:36 and then you're going to screw it right
9:38 into the frame
9:40 all right continuing to go through our
9:42 all-weather siding
9:43 right here
9:46 we have our end trim or our starter trim
9:48 and actually if you rip this piece off
9:51 you can also use it as your j trim
9:53 depending on how you want to use it all
9:55 trim pieces work horizontally or
9:57 vertically with this siding
9:59 and you can see here
10:00 it will rest
10:02 right down in there or just like this
10:04 depending on how you want to use it
10:06 this is the trim you'll use the most
10:09 this will be used around most windows
10:12 and most door openings this is our joint
10:14 trim so say you want to do like a board
10:15 and batten look you just want to join up
10:18 a run this goes right in here and you
10:20 can join two different boards together
10:22 and then you can see again here in the
10:24 close-up we've kind of built in that
10:26 room for that gap to allow for expansion
10:30 all right so now we're going to talk
10:32 trim for the european line
10:35 as you can see we have similar pieces
10:36 here to what we showed you with all
10:38 weather but they're custom engineered to
10:39 work with these really beautiful and
10:41 innovative products so we're going to
10:43 start with norwegian
10:47 this is our exterior corner and you can see
10:48 see
10:50 this lines up just beautifully and
10:52 you've got your run and then you have
10:54 this perfectly finished corner and then
10:55 that can just continue down the other
10:58 side you can see here
11:00 that we've built in this extra room here
11:02 so we know when you get to the end of
11:04 your run you're probably not going to
11:07 have that perfectly finished final piece
11:10 so we just ask that you rip it down here
11:12 down the indented part don't try to rip
11:13 through the raised portion and then
11:15 we've given you this extra wiggle room
11:17 to work with to allow you to really
11:19 finish that off what's cool about this
11:21 is that you can also do these
11:24 horizontally and it still looks great so
11:26 you don't have to worry about oh shoot
11:29 how am i going to get my exterior corner
11:31 when i have a horizontal run we've
11:32 already thought of it ahead of time and
11:34 it works really really well
11:36 all right continuing it on
11:38 with norwegian
11:40 so over here
11:43 we have our end trim or our starter trim
11:44 and really
11:46 if you were to rip this portion off you
11:49 can also use it as your j trim let me
11:50 show you what i mean
11:57 so this is going to line up for you
11:59 right here
12:01 and it just gives you a lot of wiggle
12:04 room again a lot of forgiveness there to
12:06 just kind of help you finish off those
12:09 corners and those runs on your project
12:11 and again here
12:12 it works just as well
12:18 again this is the trim used around
12:23 all right and now we're going to take a
12:26 look at the trim that we have for the
12:29 belgian line again here this is our
12:30 exterior corner
12:32 these aren't the exact same color but
12:34 they all work together
12:35 and you'll see
12:37 it's going to do a really good job of
12:39 just giving you that fluid finished
12:41 corner turn and allow you to continue on
12:44 down in the other line same thing here
12:46 it works just as well for your
12:48 horizontal applications as it does for
12:50 your vertical applications and because
12:52 we have this extra room here it's going
12:54 to give you a lot of forgiveness as you
12:55 have to rip your boards to kind of get
12:57 that perfect fit
13:00 and then here same thing
13:02 we've created
13:05 our end trim or our starter trim however
13:06 you want to use it however you need to
13:09 use it and you can also rip off this
13:11 bottom part again and it can be some j
13:14 trim for you so you see here it gives
13:16 you that nice finished turn there
13:17 same thing again it can be used
13:19 horizontally or vertically very
13:21 versatile piece
13:23 this trim once again will be what you
13:26 use around windows and doors
13:28 the last piece to talk about is
13:32 just your basic all-purpose corner trim
13:33 we use this for decking we can use it
13:36 for both of our styles of the european
13:38 line this is just a very versatile piece
13:40 of trim that can be used for a lot of
13:51 thanks so much for joining us here today
13:52 checking out this video on new tech
