0:02 welcome back in this video we are going
0:06 to be discussing Christology or the
0:08 doctrine of Christ where we will be
0:11 looking at the person nature and role of
0:24 thank you guys for tuning in in this
0:27 channel we are entirely dedicated to
0:30 providing tools teachings and resources
0:32 that are geared to enriching and
0:35 enhancing your walk with the Lord and
0:37 your study of God's Word and I'm really
0:40 excited about this particular video
0:42 because we are going to be talking about
0:45 one of my favorite people in the entire world
0:46 world
0:49 Jesus this video will present a very
0:52 broad overview of what the Bible has to
0:57 say about the person of Christ or the
1:00 Messiah as he was prophesied and
1:03 fulfilled in Scripture let's look first
1:05 at some of the key terms that we need to
1:07 know in going into this particular
1:11 doctrine first what we need to know is
1:14 that Christ and Messiah really are the
1:18 same word okay so obviously Christ is
1:22 the Greek New Testament word for
1:26 Anointed One or anointed and Messiah is
1:30 the Hebrew or Old Testament word for
1:33 anointed or Messiah quite literally
1:36 they're just synonymous and they are
1:37 connected also further if you want to go
1:39 study this out on your own they are
1:43 further connected as you will find by
1:46 doing a Septuagint study okay continuing
1:50 on this is important because we need to
1:52 keep in mind that Messiah and Christ are
1:57 both the same person and the same office
2:00 when we hear or we use the word Christ
2:03 it's not the last name of Jesus right
2:06 he's not Jesus Christ he is Jesus the
2:09 Christ and we need to keep that in mind
2:12 because when the Old Testament
2:16 prophecies were written about Messiah or
2:18 they were written about this person that
2:22 would come and pick up the mantle of or
2:26 take the office of Messiah he would come
2:30 in a very extravagant way for the
2:32 redemption salvation
2:36 and preservation of Israel very exciting
2:39 so as you have seen in just this little
2:43 bit Messiah and Christ have to do not
2:46 only with identifying a person but also
2:50 identifying a office that is filled by
2:52 one particular person who perfectly
2:55 fulfills scripture I don't have enough
2:58 time in this video to walk you through
3:03 the you know some 200 prophecies that
3:07 Jesus perfectly fulfilled at his coming
3:10 so I encourage you to go study those and
3:11 look those up on your own it's a
3:14 fascinating encouraging and truly
3:16 exciting study where you get to look
3:20 more fully at the Old Testament
3:24 prophecies about a true Savior the next
3:26 area in the realm of Christology that I
3:29 really want to talk about is that of
3:33 something called the hyper static Union
3:36 the hypostatic Union and what this has
3:40 to do was this has to deal with the
3:44 twofold nature of Jesus it deals
3:47 entirely with the fact that God is both
3:53 God and man he is equally man and God
3:55 this term came from the early church
3:59 figure Athanasius and this is really
4:00 important because he was trying to
4:04 defend this two-fold nature of Jesus
4:07 Christ let's read about that real fast
4:10 Athanasius use the term the hypostatic
4:13 union to describe the teaching that
4:15 these two distinct natures divine and
4:18 human coexisted substantively
4:21 and in reality in the single person of
4:24 Jesus Christ the aim was to defend the
4:26 doctrine that Jesus was simultaneously
4:31 truly God and truly man and this is
4:35 truly of undying importance because a
4:40 misunderstanding of Jesus's nature
4:43 can bear grave consequences for
4:46 Christians the reason why this is so
4:49 important is not only to obviously
4:52 maintain consistency in one's own
4:55 interpretation of Scripture but it's
4:58 important because a misunderstanding of
5:02 this is where a lot of cults and
5:06 heresies derive their teachings from we
5:08 have to believe and we have to
5:10 understand because it is truly very
5:13 clear in Scripture that Jesus Christ was
5:16 both fully God and fully man I want to
5:19 read to you two passages in regards to
5:22 this the first out of john chapter 1 and
5:25 the second out of Philippians chapter 2
5:29 read with me as we go John 1:1 through
5:31 2:14 says in the beginning was the word
5:34 and the Word was with God and the Word
5:37 was God he was in the beginning with God
5:40 all things were made through him and
5:44 without him was not anything made that
5:47 was made and the word became flesh and
5:51 dwelt among us and we have seen his
5:54 glory the glory as of the only son from
5:57 the father full of grace and truth
6:02 also in Philippians 2:5 through eleven
6:06 we have this have this in mind among
6:08 yourselves which is yours in Christ
6:11 Jesus who though he was in the form of
6:14 God did not count equality with God a
6:16 thing to be grasped but emptied himself
6:19 by taking the form of a servant being
6:21 born in the likeness of men and being
6:24 found in human form he humbled himself
6:27 by becoming obedient to the point of
6:30 death even death on a cross therefore
6:32 God has highly exalted him and bestowed
6:34 on him the name that is above every name
6:36 so that at the name of Jesus every knee
6:38 should bow in heaven and on earth and
6:40 under the earth and every tongue confess
6:44 that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory
6:46 of God the
6:50 it is truly of undying importance as
6:52 I've said before to maintain the fact
6:55 that Jesus was both truly God and truly mannered
6:57 mannered
7:00 we cannot deviate in our understanding
7:05 of Jesus in any way let us continue on
7:08 with a look now at something theologians
7:12 called the twofold State of Christ these
7:15 two main points deal very specifically
7:19 with the state of the Messiah or the
7:25 conditions position or state that he was
7:29 required to fulfill for his prophetic
7:31 role that's what we're looking at here
7:34 when we look at his humiliation and his
7:37 exaltation so let's start first with the
7:41 humiliation of Jesus Christ the
7:44 humiliation of Jesus Christ has to do
7:47 with him lowering himself from a state
7:52 of absolute magnificence and glory to a
7:55 lower state where we see starting with
7:58 his incarnation where now he is found in
8:03 a lesser less glorious state becoming
8:06 God man the humiliation of Christ
8:08 obviously begins with the Incarnation
8:11 can be but can be summed up in four
8:13 areas which I will encourage you to
8:16 study out on your own later this deals
8:20 with Christ fulfilling Scripture by
8:24 becoming incarnate suffering dying and
8:27 being buried in relation to his
8:29 humiliation we seen a if you will a
8:33 suffering servant where he comes and he
8:36 dies for the sake and for the good of
8:38 his people
8:42 that's the humiliation of Christ the
8:45 second thing we see here which I'll just
8:47 touch on briefly because I also want to
8:49 encourage you to go and study this out
8:51 further on your own because it is truly
8:53 a glorious study
8:56 is the exaltation of Christ this facet
8:58 of Christology isolates and identifies
9:03 the state of messiah as he came to
9:07 fulfill his prophetic role and in this
9:10 regard what we see here now after him
9:12 being the suffering servant we now see
9:15 him being a king if you will or him
9:19 claiming his throne and underneath the
9:21 exaltation of Christ we see also four
9:24 main points or sub points and those are
9:28 these we see his resurrection his
9:34 ascension his session and his return in
9:37 glory Jesus now we see in his exaltation
9:40 we see his resurrection and we see his
9:44 ascension back to a state of pure
9:49 exaltation where he now is able to take
9:52 his rightful place where he was with God
9:57 the Father from eternity past pretty
10:00 exciting isn't it and I would encourage
10:02 you to look into those on your own I
10:05 pray that this has blessed you greatly
