0:01 have you ever felt embarrassed or
0:04 frustrated after making a mistake maybe
0:06 you've tried something new and things
0:08 didn't go as planned whether it was a
0:11 presentation at work a new hobby or even
0:13 just trying to learn a new skill we've
0:15 all been there the feeling of making a
0:17 mistake can be tough and it's natural to
0:20 want to avoid failure at all costs but
0:22 what if I told you that making mistakes
0:24 is not only normal It's actually an
0:27 essential part of learning and growing
0:29 in today's episode we're going to
0:31 explore why making mistakes isn't
0:32 something to fear but something to
0:35 embrace we'll discuss how mistakes can
0:37 be powerful tools for growth how they
0:39 teach us valuable lessons and how
0:41 shifting our perspective on failure can
0:45 open up new doors for Success so let's
0:47 take a moment to think about it when was
0:49 the last time you made a mistake maybe
0:51 it was something small like getting a
0:53 math problem wrong in school or
0:56 misjudging a recipe in the kitchen or
0:58 perhaps it was something bigger a missed
1:00 opportunity a failed project or an
1:03 embarrassing moment in front of others
1:04 it's easy to dwell on the negative
1:07 aspects of these experiences but here's
1:09 the thing every time we make a mistake
1:11 we are actually learning every Wrong
1:13 Turn is an opportunity to correct our
1:16 course every setback can lead to a
1:18 comeback today we're going to talk about
1:21 how mistakes no matter how big or small
1:24 are part of the learning process by
1:26 reframing our view of mistakes we can
1:28 start to see them as stepping stones
1:30 rather than stumbling blocks and the
1:32 more we allow ourselves to make mistakes
1:34 and learn from them the more confident
1:37 and capable we become so if you've been
1:39 avoiding making mistakes or feeling
1:41 discouraged by them this episode is for
1:43 you let's dive in and discover how
1:45 embracing mistakes can help us grow in
1:48 ways we never imagined welcome back to
1:51 the clear English podcast we've all been
1:53 there trying something new and suddenly
1:55 realizing we've made a mistake it's
1:57 uncomfortable right whether you're
1:59 trying to learn a new skill take on a CH
2:01 chenge or simply improve your day
2:03 there's always that moment when things
2:06 don't go as planned most people view
2:07 mistakes as something to avoid or be
2:10 ashamed of but what if I told you that
2:12 making mistakes is actually one of the
2:15 most powerful ways to learn and grow in
2:17 today's episode why making mistakes is
2:19 part of the learning process we're going
2:21 to talk about why mistakes aren't just
2:23 inevitable they're essential to our
2:26 growth I'll be sharing personal stories
2:28 explaining the science behind how we
2:30 learn from mistakes and offering a few
2:32 practical tips on how to turn your
2:34 mistakes into valuable lessons by the
2:36 end of this episode I hope you'll see
2:38 mistakes in a whole new light and feel
2:40 more confident in embracing them whether
2:44 in your personal life or career so let's
2:46 get started and dive into why mistakes
2:47 aren't something to fear but an
2:50 important part of the Journey To Success
2:52 When We're Young mistakes feel like the
2:54 end of the world whether it's a school
2:57 test a sports competition or a family
2:59 dinner where you accidentally spill
3:01 something it's easy to internalize the
3:03 idea that mistakes are shameful I
3:05 remember being in school always afraid
3:08 of answering questions wrong in class I
3:10 had this overwhelming fear of being
3:13 judged by my classmates and teachers
3:15 mistakes to me seemed like evidence that
3:18 I wasn't good enough or capable the fear
3:20 of making mistakes often held me back
3:23 from trying new things for example when
3:25 I first started learning to play the
3:28 guitar I felt nervous I would practice
3:30 for hours but no matter how hard I tried
3:32 I'd hit wrong notes and struggle with
3:35 chords every time my fingers fumbled I
3:37 felt discouraged and wondered if I'd
3:40 ever get it right what I didn't realize
3:42 then was that my mistakes were part of
3:44 the process they weren't signs of
3:46 failure but rather Stepping Stones to
3:48 Improvement I think many of us can
3:51 relate to that fear as we grow older the
3:53 stakes seem higher and we start to
3:55 believe that mistakes might Define us or
3:57 that they'll keep us from succeeding
3:58 it's easy to think that those who never
4:00 make mistakes are more skilled more
4:03 successful and more capable than we are
4:05 but this mindset is exactly what holds
4:08 us back from truly learning and growing
4:10 the turning point for me came during a
4:12 personal project I decided to start a
4:15 blog I had this dream of creating
4:16 content that would help others learn new
4:18 things but the fear of making mistakes
4:21 kept me from getting started I was
4:23 terrified of producing content that
4:25 wasn't perfect what if people didn't
4:27 like it what if I made a mistake that
4:29 would ruin my credibility I spent more
4:31 more time worrying about the possibility
4:33 of failure than actually taking the
4:36 first step eventually I realized
4:38 something important I could either
4:39 continue letting the fear of making
4:42 mistakes hold me back or I could embrace
4:43 the idea that mistakes were part of The
4:47 Learning Journey I decided to go for it
4:49 imperfections and all my first few blog
4:52 posts were far from perfect I made some
4:54 grammatical errors and my writing style
4:57 was still developing but guess what
4:59 people responded positively not just
5:01 because of the quality of my writing but
5:03 because they saw my willingness to be
5:06 real and transparent about the process
5:08 they appreciated the effort and in turn
5:10 I started to appreciate my mistakes as learning
5:11 learning
5:13 opportunities this shift in perspective
5:16 was a GameChanger instead of fearing
5:18 mistakes I started to see them as
5:20 valuable lessons mistakes weren't a
5:23 reflection of my inability but of my
5:25 courage to try to push beyond my comfort
5:28 zone and to improve each mistake I made
5:30 brought me one step closer closer to
5:32 getting better at what I was doing and
5:34 the more I embraced them the more
5:36 confident I became one of the most
5:38 powerful lessons I've learned from
5:39 making mistakes is that they often
5:42 reveal our weaknesses but in doing so
5:44 they offer a chance to improve in the
5:47 early days of writing my blog I had no
5:49 idea how much I didn't know about Co
5:50 search engine
5:53 optimization my first few posts weren't
5:55 getting much traffic and it was
5:57 frustrating but instead of getting
5:59 discouraged I started researching and
6:00 learning more about how to improve my
6:03 content reach each time I made a mistake
6:06 in understanding Co I learned something
6:08 new and eventually I started seeing more
6:11 visitors on my blog the same principle
6:14 applies to any area of life whether it's
6:16 learning a new language trying a new
6:18 recipe or improving your Fitness it's
6:20 the mistakes we make along the way that
6:23 teach us the most valuable lessons if we
6:25 get everything perfect from the start we
6:27 don't get the opportunity to identify
6:30 areas where we can improve mistakes
6:32 provide that feedback they show us where
6:34 we need to put in more effort where we
6:37 need to learn and where we can grow
6:39 think about it if every time you tried
6:41 something new it worked perfectly would
6:43 you truly learn would you know what it
6:45 takes to improve and push through
6:48 challenges probably not it's through
6:50 making mistakes fixing them and
6:52 continuing to try that we build real
6:54 skills and resilience this growth
6:56 through mistakes isn't just about
6:58 acquiring knowledge or skills though
7:01 it's also about personal development
7:03 when we make mistakes we're faced with
7:05 choices we can either give up or push
7:07 forward the mistakes that seem like
7:09 failures at first often lead us down
7:11 paths we never would have considered
7:14 otherwise I've often found that the most
7:15 valuable lessons come from moments of
7:18 struggle or failure for instance in the
7:21 beginning of my podcasting journey I had
7:23 countless technical difficulties the
7:26 audio was poor and I stumbled over my
7:29 words during recordings at times I felt
7:31 like quitting because I was embarrassed
7:33 by the mistakes I was making but I kept
7:36 it it learning from each episode now
7:39 years later I've developed a much deeper
7:41 understanding of the technical side of
7:43 podcasting I've even learned to embrace
7:45 the occasional hiccup because I know
7:47 that it's just part of the process the
7:49 mistakes I made along the way were what
7:52 shaped my confidence in this field it's
7:54 the same with any skill when you start
7:56 out mistakes are inevitable but they
7:58 help you develop a mindset of
8:01 perseverance each time you correct a
8:03 mistake you grow a Little Bit Stronger
8:06 over time these experiences build up and
8:08 you become not just more skilled but
8:11 more resilient and open to learning
8:13 there's also scientific evidence to
8:14 support the idea that mistakes are
8:17 critical for learning studies show that
8:19 making mistakes activates a part of the
8:21 brain called the anterior singulate
8:23 cortex which is responsible for err
8:26 detection and learning when we make a
8:28 mistake this area of the brain helps us
8:30 correct it and improve our performance
8:33 the next time essentially our brains are
8:35 wired to learn from mistakes so when we
8:37 avoid them we're actually preventing
8:40 ourselves from growing this is why it's
8:42 so important to embrace mistakes instead
8:44 of fearing them each mistake is an
8:46 opportunity for your brain to adapt and
8:49 build new connections the more mistakes
8:51 we make and learn from the stronger our
8:53 brains become at problem solving and
8:55 adapting to New Challenges it's not
8:57 about getting everything right on the
8:59 first try but about building the mental
9:01 flexibility and resilience that come
9:03 from working through challenges I'm sure
9:05 I'll continue to make mistakes and
9:08 that's okay in fact I look forward to
9:10 the learning opportunities they'll
9:12 provide embracing mistakes doesn't mean
9:14 that we stop trying to do our best or
9:17 that we stop striving for improvement it
9:20 simply means we stop fearing mistakes we
9:22 start seeing them as part of the process
9:25 not the end of the road so the next time
9:27 you find yourself making a mistake don't
9:30 see it as a failure instead think of it
9:32 as a chance to grow to learn and to get
9:35 better you're building something more
9:37 than just skills You're Building
9:39 resilience self-confidence and a deeper
9:42 understanding of yourself mistakes don't
9:44 hold you back they push you forward as
9:47 we wrap up this part of the episode I
9:49 want you to remember one thing making
9:51 mistakes isn't a sign of weakness or
9:54 failure it's a sign of progress every
9:56 mistake you make is an opportunity to
9:59 learn improve and grow the more you
10:01 Embrace this mindset the more you'll see
10:03 the incredible value in the process of
10:06 learning through mistakes let me share a
10:08 story with you from a few years ago I
10:10 had decided to take on a new challenge
10:13 learning how to play the guitar now I
10:16 had zero experience with the instrument
10:18 but something about the idea of playing
10:21 music drew me in so I picked up a Guitar
10:23 watched a few online tutorials and was
10:26 ready to play my first song what
10:28 happened next well to say it didn't go
10:31 smooth would be an understatement every
10:33 time I tried to strum the cords my
10:35 fingers just didn't land where they were
10:38 supposed to the notes were off my
10:40 fingers would slip and the Rhythm was
10:42 completely out of syn it felt like I
10:44 couldn't get anything right and the more
10:47 mistakes I made the more frustrated I
10:49 became I kept repeating the same errors
10:52 unable to make progress at first I
10:55 thought this is impossible I'll never be
10:57 good at this I started to feel
10:59 embarrassed about my mistakes and if I'm
11:02 being honest a little discouraged it was
11:03 hard to shake the feeling that my
11:06 mistakes Were Somehow a reflection of my
11:08 failure I feared that each wrong note
11:10 meant I wasn't cut out for this whole
11:13 guitar playing thing but here's where
11:15 everything changed instead of quitting I
11:18 decided to shift my mindset I stopped
11:20 being so hard on myself and started
11:22 asking a new question what can I learn
11:25 from this mistake instead of seeing each
11:27 error as a failure I began to see them
11:30 as opportunities to improve with every
11:32 wrong chord and missed note I took a
11:34 moment to figure out what went wrong and
11:36 how I could fix it as I embraced my
11:39 mistakes I noticed something important I
11:41 was slowly getting better it wasn't a
11:44 huge leap but with each mistake I made a
11:47 tiny step forward my fingers started
11:48 Landing in the right positions the
11:50 Rhythm became smoother and I could feel
11:53 the song coming together and one day
11:56 without even realizing it I was able to
11:58 play the entire song with confidence and
12:01 ease looking back I realized that none
12:02 of this would have been possible without
12:05 those early mistakes the mistakes were
12:07 the very things that taught me how to
12:09 play and without them I wouldn't have
12:12 progressed they didn't hold me back they
12:14 pushed me forward teaching me to be
12:16 patient persistent and to embrace the
12:19 learning process and that I think is the
12:22 power of making mistakes so why are
12:24 mistakes so important well there's
12:27 actual science behind it our brains are
12:29 wired to learn from errors which is is a
12:31 fundamental part of how we grow and
12:33 develop new skills when we make a
12:35 mistake our brain registers that
12:38 something didn't go as planned it then
12:39 uses that information to make
12:41 adjustments helping us avoid repeating
12:44 the same mistake in the future this
12:46 process known as error-based learning is
12:48 essential for our progress and
12:50 Improvement think of mistakes as
12:52 signposts guiding us toward better
12:55 decisions and strategies every time we
12:57 make an error it's like our brain is
12:59 taking note this didn't work let's try
13:02 something else next time it's through
13:04 this trial and error process that we get
13:06 better at almost everything whether it's
13:08 learning a new skill understanding a
13:11 concept or navigating through life's
13:13 challenges for instance let's consider
13:15 language learning when you're learning a
13:17 new language it's inevitable that you'll
13:20 make mistakes you might say the wrong
13:22 word mispronounce something or even mess
13:25 up the grammer at first these mistakes
13:28 can feel awkward even embarrassing but
13:30 here's the cool part by making those
13:32 mistakes you're actually helping your
13:34 brain build the correct Pathways each
13:36 time you make an error in your speech
13:38 your brain is actively figuring out what
13:41 went wrong and how to fix it over time
13:43 as you continue to practice your brain
13:45 starts to recognize the correct patterns
13:48 and structures eventually the right
13:50 words and pronunciations start coming to
13:52 you more naturally those initial
13:54 mistakes are like the stepping stones
13:57 that lead you to fluency the same goes
13:59 for any skill you're learning when
14:00 whether it's playing an instrument
14:03 cooking or even working on a new project
14:05 at work mistakes are not something to
14:07 fear they're an important part of the
14:09 process our brains are designed to learn
14:12 from errors to adapt and to grow through
14:15 them so the next time you make a mistake
14:16 don't get
14:18 discouraged understand that it's not a
14:20 setback it's a critical part of the
14:22 learning process helping you build
14:25 stronger mental Pathways for Success
14:27 making mistakes doesn't just teach us
14:29 new skills it also builds our
14:32 confidence I know it sounds strange at
14:34 first how can making mistakes help you
14:37 feel more confident but when you really
14:40 think about it it makes perfect sense
14:41 every time you make a mistake and keep
14:43 going you're proving to yourself that
14:45 you can overcome challenges you're
14:47 showing yourself that you're capable of
14:50 pushing through difficult situations and
14:52 learning from them it's a lot like
14:54 training your muscles when you start
14:57 working out it's tough your muscles get
14:59 sore and sometimes you feel like giving
15:01 giving up but with consistent practice
15:04 your body gets stronger the same goes
15:06 for your mindset each time you make a
15:07 mistake and learn from it you're
15:10 building mental resilience you're
15:12 training yourself to handle setbacks and
15:13 move forward with even more
15:16 determination and that resilience it's
15:18 what helps you grow your confidence but
15:21 there's another important aspect of this
15:22 accepting mistakes as part of the
15:25 process is a sign of maturity as we grow
15:28 older we start to realize that no one is
15:30 perfect even the most successful people
15:33 have failed many times in fact many of
15:35 them would say that their failures were
15:37 more valuable than their successes they
15:40 didn't let their mistakes Define them
15:41 instead they used them as stepping
15:44 stones to improve and reach even greater
15:46 Heights this is a mindset shift that
15:48 comes with experience and
15:50 self-awareness think about famous
15:52 innovators like Thomas Edison who made
15:54 thousands of attempts before inventing
15:56 the light bulb or Michael Jordan who was
15:58 famously cut from his high school
16:00 basketball team they didn't let those
16:03 failures stop them they recognized that
16:05 failure is simply a part of the learning
16:08 process in fact many successful people
16:10 have shared that their biggest
16:12 breakthroughs came after a series of
16:14 mistakes not despite them that's how you
16:17 should approach mistakes two not as
16:19 something to avoid or be ashamed of but
16:21 as opportunities to learn grow and
16:24 improve mistakes give you the chance to
16:26 take a step back reassess what went
16:28 wrong and come up with a better strategy
16:30 for the next time it's all about
16:32 perspective when you see mistakes as a
16:35 natural and necessary part of growth
16:37 they no longer seem like failures
16:39 instead they become valuable lessons
16:41 that shape you into a more capable
16:44 resilient and confident person so
16:47 embrace your mistakes let them guide you
16:49 to new insights new skills and a
16:52 stronger sense of self it's through this
16:53 process of learning and growing from our
16:57 mistakes that we truly evolve okay so
16:59 now we know that mistakes are a natural
17:00 part of the learning process but how can
17:03 we handle them in a healthy way it's
17:05 easy to feel defeated or frustrated when
17:07 we make a mistake but by shifting our
17:09 mindset and taking intentional actions
17:11 we can turn those mistakes into valuable
17:14 lessons here are a few tips to help you
17:17 deal with mistakes in a productive way
17:19 instead of seeing mistakes as failures
17:21 try to view them as opportunities for
17:23 growth this mindset shift can make a
17:25 world of difference when you make a
17:28 mistake rather than feeling discouraged
17:31 ask yourself what can I learn from this
17:34 or how can I do this better next time by
17:35 focusing on what you can take away from
17:37 the experience you not only ease the
17:39 emotional sting of making an error but
17:42 also turn it into something positive
17:45 mistakes after all are just feedback
17:47 they show you what didn't work and point
17:49 you in the direction of what you can try
17:51 next it's easy to be your own harshest
17:54 critic when you make a mistake we often
17:56 judge ourselves more severely than we
17:59 would judge others but remember everyone
18:01 makes mistakes it's a part of Being
18:04 Human so be kind to yourself treat
18:06 yourself with the same patience
18:08 understanding and compassion that you
18:10 would show to a friend who made the same
18:12 mistake instead of saying I'm not good
18:15 enough try saying I'm learning and I'll
18:17 get better with practice this small
18:19 shift in selft talk can make a huge
18:21 difference in how you handle mistakes
18:23 and how they affect your confidence the
18:25 most important thing when you make a
18:28 mistake is to not give up mistakes are
18:30 not the end they just a part of the
18:33 process keep trying keep practicing and
18:35 remember that every mistake gets you one
18:38 step closer to success when you learn
18:40 from each error and continue to take
18:42 action you build resilience and improve
18:45 your skills the more mistakes you make
18:46 the more you grow and the closer you get
18:49 to achieving your goals so don't be
18:52 afraid to try again embrace the learning
18:54 process and trust that each attempt
18:57 brings you closer to Mastery by changing
18:59 how you view mistakes treating yourself
19:01 with kindness and continuing to push
19:03 forward despite setbacks you can handle
19:05 mistakes in a way that fuels your growth
19:08 rather than holding you back remember
19:10 mistakes are not a sign that you've
19:11 failed they're evidence that you're
19:14 trying and learning keep going and
19:15 you'll be amazed at how much progress
19:18 you make over time to sum up making
19:20 mistakes is a crucial part of the
19:23 learning process it's not something to
19:25 be ashamed of or afraid of in fact it's
19:27 a sign that you're trying growing and
19:30 getting better mistakes are a natural
19:32 and valuable tool that helps us learn
19:34 improve our skills and build our
19:36 confidence the next time you make a
19:39 mistake remember that it's not a failure
19:41 it's an opportunity for growth
19:43 throughout this episode we've explored
19:45 how mistakes help our brains learn and
19:47 adapt how they can boost our confidence
19:49 and how we can handle them in a healthy
19:52 constructive way when you make a mistake
19:54 take a step back and ask yourself what
19:57 can I learn from this by viewing
19:59 mistakes as lessons rather than setbacks
20:01 you can continue to move forward with a
20:03 sense of purpose and determination
20:06 remember mistakes are not the enemy they
20:08 are our teachers guiding us toward
20:11 Mastery and growth so don't be afraid to
20:13 make them embrace them learn from them
20:15 and keep moving forward knowing that
20:17 each mistake brings you one step closer
20:20 to success thank you for joining me on
20:22 today's episode of the clear English
20:25 podcast I hope this episode encourages
20:27 you to feel more confident the next time
20:28 you make a mistake and to remember that
20:30 it's just part of the journey to
20:32 learning and growing keep making those
