0:23 and i just wrapped up six months of
0:24 full-time travel living out of nothing
0:27 but carry-on suitcases
0:28 during that time period we took
0:31 something like 40 flights so i've picked
0:33 up some tips and hacks along the way on
0:35 how to get through security with my
0:42 it's easy to get confused by tsa's rules
0:45 in regards to liquids in your carry-on
0:47 suitcase but it's pretty simple so i'm
0:50 gonna break it down the rule is three one
0:51 one one
0:52 one
0:56 all liquids gels creams aerosols and
1:00 pastes must be in a 3.4 ounce container
1:02 or smaller all of these compliant
1:04 liquids must go into a one
1:07 quart bag that is clear
1:09 plastic and zip top and you are only
1:13 allowed one of these bags per passenger
1:15 so two quick things in regards to this
1:17 three one one rule
1:21 the tsa states that a container size is
1:23 dictated by what is actually on the bottle
1:24 bottle
1:27 so there's no getting around having a
1:30 container that is larger than 3.4 ounces
1:33 even if what is inside the container is
1:35 less than three ounces this would need
1:37 to go inside of your checked bag or the
1:41 tsa will throw it away at security
1:44 additionally when it comes to liquids
1:49 the tsa counts food and drinks towards
1:51 this one court allotment so you've got
1:54 to think about things like snacks and
1:57 peanut butter as needing to be inside of
2:00 that single bag allotment for quote toiletries
2:06 okay
2:08 now that we've gotten through all the
2:10 rules here are a couple of tips and
2:12 hacks that i've picked up along the way
2:14 to help me get through security with my
2:15 toiletry bag
2:18 first and foremost and this may sound
2:21 pretty obvious but remember
2:23 not all of your toiletries and makeup
2:25 have to go in this bag
2:28 only your liquids have to go into your
2:32 single toiletry bag
2:33 with that
2:37 trade as a mini liquids for solid
2:40 product options as you can
2:41 for example
2:44 dry shampoo usually comes in an aerosol can
2:45 can
2:47 but if you can trade it for a dry
2:49 shampoo powder
2:51 which will one usually last you longer
2:54 and two does not have to go into your
2:57 bag because it is a powder and not a liquid
2:58 liquid next
2:59 next
3:02 if you're traveling with a partner or a
3:05 male companion typically they are going
3:07 to have less toiletry items than a
3:10 female let's just be real
3:13 be willing and ready to pawn off some of
3:15 your toiletries onto this partner if
3:17 they are open to it to help you meet
3:20 your one court allotment for the tsa
3:22 rules i don't know how many times i have
3:25 had nick take some of my toiletry items
3:27 and put them in his toiletry bags
3:30 just so i could get through tsa
3:32 also make sure your tsa approved
3:34 toiletry bag is in a quick access place
3:37 the last thing you want to do is be the
3:39 holdup in the security line because
3:41 you're digging through your carry-on bag
3:44 trying to find this toiletry bag
3:46 you know you have to take it out and
3:48 place it in the bin so just make sure
3:50 it's in a quick access spot i personally
3:53 carry mine in my personal item bag so in
3:56 my backpack so it's just quick access to
3:58 throw into the bin and get through
4:01 security very quickly lastly
4:03 don't be overly attached to anything
4:05 there's a chance that you encounter a
4:08 rule or an agent that's just overly
4:10 strict or
4:12 going to make you throw something away
4:16 rip some perfectly good olaplex shampoo
4:24 you just gotta be ready that any of
4:26 these items can go away which is fine
4:28 because you're going to be able to find
4:30 most of your toiletries in the places
4:32 that you're going
4:34 but just be ready to do that so don't
4:36 take anything that you would say is too
4:43 so now it's time to jump into what i
4:45 actually pack for toiletries and what
4:48 makes it into my one quart tsa approved
4:50 toiletry bag
4:52 first and foremost this is the actual
4:54 toiletry bag that i packed and put into
4:58 my carry-on for every single trip it is
5:00 a square clear bag that's plastic and
5:02 has the zipper on the top it's perfect
5:04 for tsa
5:06 it goes straight into my backpack um and
5:09 i got this on amazon for pretty cheap
5:11 honestly and it came with a couple of
5:13 different colors but this is my toiletry
5:16 bag from a liquid standpoint i really do
5:19 try to limit the amount of liquids that
5:20 i carry
5:23 in my toiletry bag i usually have some
5:26 sort of travel size shampoo and
5:29 conditioner if you are a person that can
5:32 use a shampoo bar i would personally
5:34 recommend that because it won't count
5:36 towards your liquids but my hair just
5:38 doesn't cooperate so i have to have just
5:41 the traditional shampoo and conditioner
5:42 i'm not picky when it comes to my
5:44 shampoo and conditioner so i just get
5:46 whatever travel size versions i can get
5:50 at like a pharmacy or you know walgreens
5:52 but if you have special shampoo and
5:54 conditioner that you have to have on
5:57 your trip you can get tsa approved 3.4
6:01 ounce bottles that you can refill with whatever
6:02 whatever
6:04 shampoo conditioner creams or gels that
6:05 you would like these are really great
6:07 options they're silicone they're squeeze tubes
6:09 tubes
6:11 so if you need to do that you can for
6:13 more hair products i honestly am pretty
6:16 low maintenance when it comes to my hair
6:18 but try to be as minimal as possible on
6:21 the number of hair styling products you
6:24 bring that are liquid-based for me i opt
6:27 for an all-in-one styler this one's by
6:30 olaplex so this is like a five in one
6:33 product that style smooths
6:35 heat protectant all of those things in
6:39 one so i only have to bring one item
6:42 this is in a 3.3 ounce bottle as well so
6:45 it comes in an already approved tsa
6:47 travel size of course i have to bring
6:49 toothpaste i typically like to have a
6:52 micellar water as well to help wash my
6:55 face particularly on the plane when i'm
6:57 not going to have access to a sink
6:59 or you know if i'm staying in a place
7:01 where the water is pretty questionable i
7:03 like to wash my face with a micellar
7:06 water so this one's from garnier and it
7:08 comes in the travel size as well and i
7:10 won't use this all of the time but it's
7:12 nice to have it as an option if i'm in a
7:14 pinch another item that i really like to
7:17 have in my toiletry bag is an acne spot
7:20 treatment and i know that sounds pretty
7:22 specific but when you're traveling and
7:24 you're trying a bunch of new food or
7:26 foods that you're not used to
7:28 let's just get real there's an
7:31 opportunity for pimples to pop up
7:34 so we have this origins spot treatment
7:36 it's in a very very small container but
7:39 this goes into my toiletry bag for every
7:42 trip a great multi-purpose item to have
7:44 when you travel is vaseline
7:47 vaseline can cover a multitude of things
7:49 it's great for chapped lips it's great
7:52 for minor cuts and burns so i always
7:54 have a small travel size container of
7:55 vaseline on me while we're traveling
7:57 especially in airplanes they can like
7:59 dry out your skin like crazy and
8:00 vaseline is perfect for that
8:04 so these are all of my technical liquids
8:06 as you can see it's not that much that
8:09 falls under what the tsa would identify
8:11 as liquids that have to go into my
8:13 toiletry bag
8:15 now for everything that's in my toiletry
8:18 bag that isn't technically a liquid
8:20 i always have a travel size deodorant
8:22 this sometimes goes in my bag and
8:24 sometimes i just throw this into like my
8:26 personal item bag because it's a solid
8:28 it doesn't matter where it goes in my
8:30 carry-on i also have
8:33 a face soap that's actually a bar this
8:34 one is from clinique and it's really
8:38 great because it lasts a long time
8:40 this thing lasted six months between me
8:42 and nick using it and it comes in a
8:45 handy travel case this i actually just
8:47 pack into my carry-on suitcase because
8:49 it's a solid it doesn't take up any room
8:50 in my toiletry bag
8:53 i also like to opt for a solid sunscreen
8:55 stick we wear sunscreen every day or at
8:58 least try to and having a stick form of
9:00 it allows us to make sure we always have
9:01 sunscreen on us
9:04 and this lasts forever as well and
9:06 sometimes sunscreen can get pretty
9:08 expensive in places depending on what
9:10 destination you're going to so i like to
9:12 have a small option for sunscreen in my
9:15 bag and the stick works out really well
9:18 as a solid another big shift that i made
9:20 that was a game changer in space in my
9:23 toiletry bag was changing from
9:27 aerosol travel size cans of dry shampoo
9:28 to a
9:31 powder based dry shampoo this one's from
9:34 aveda it's two ounces and i've had this
9:37 thing for four months and i still have
9:39 half of the container left of powder
9:42 somehow dry shampoo powder just lasts longer
9:43 longer
9:45 and it doesn't count against your liquid
9:48 rule for your tsa toiletry bag another
9:50 item that i switched to a solid option
9:53 was for face moisturizer so
9:55 most of the time face moisturizer comes
9:56 in a cream which would count towards
10:00 your liquids but i switched to a stick
10:03 moisturizer which this one is from coco
10:05 kind and i just got this at target it
10:09 works perfect for moisturizing your skin
10:12 and your face but being a solid option
10:14 i always have chapstick in my toiletry
10:16 bag i always have like 500 chapsticks
10:18 let's be honest they're all in different
10:20 spots in my bag chapsticks count as
10:23 solids so i just have these hidden
10:26 throughout my suitcase toiletry bag
10:27 anywhere and everywhere i can fit a
10:30 chapstick i have one the last two
10:32 essentials in my toiletry bag are my
10:35 toothbrush which should be no shock and
10:38 a razor this toothbrush is a phillips
10:41 electric toothbrush that comes in a
10:42 handy travel case
10:45 and then this is just a disposable razor
10:46 that i can actually change the razor
10:48 heads on
10:50 so i typically just bring a couple of
10:52 extra with me but these are the last two
10:54 items that i would say fall in my
10:56 toiletry bag so that's all the items
10:59 that i pack from a toiletry standpoint
11:01 and because of how i've optimized what
11:04 products i've chosen between liquids and
11:07 solids you can see that my tsa toiletry bag
11:08 bag
11:11 isn't even halfway full with liquids so
11:13 i'm honestly able to pack a majority of
11:16 my toiletries into this bag
11:17 like this
11:20 honestly this is my toiletry bag with
11:23 everything liquid and solid i can pull
11:25 this out during security and no
11:28 questions asked it gets through security
11:30 99 of the time
11:32 the only toiletry item that doesn't make
11:35 it into that bag is this face soap bar
11:37 and part of it's just because the shape
11:39 of the container is a little weird
11:41 so if you can optimize your products
11:43 between liquids and solids
11:45 you should have no issue getting through tsa
11:47 tsa
