0:02 I spent the last six months trying to
0:04 figure out how to get websites featured
0:07 in Google's AI overviews, ChatGpt, and
0:09 every other AI search results. And I'm
0:11 afraid to say Iinging cracked it. One
0:14 client's AI traffic shot up over 2,000%
0:16 and they now appear in over 90 AI
0:20 overviews compared to zero before.
0:22 In this video, I'm going to show you how
0:24 to identify all the AI opportunities in
0:26 your niche, how to optimize your site to
0:28 show up in them, and how to track your
0:30 AI traffic so you're drowning in
0:32 dopamine every time you open analytics.
0:33 My name is Matt Diggity. I'm the
0:34 director of the Search Initiative, a
0:36 worldrenowned SEO agency managing some
0:38 of the biggest brands on the internet.
0:39 And today, I'm going to show you how
0:42 we're now doing SEO in the age of AI.
0:43 Let me first give you a quick background
0:45 on what this client was dealing with.
0:47 Imagine you run a website for a quality
0:49 brand. You're like the BMW of your
0:51 industry, but you don't show up in any
0:53 AI search results. Not Google, not Chad
0:56 GBT, nothing. Meanwhile, your
0:58 competitors with 1997 whatever mobile
1:00 websites are teaagging you and
1:02 dominating all these AI searches. Our
1:04 customer was frustrated. It would be
1:06 like your grandma knowing how to out SEO
1:08 you. With all due respect for grandma,
1:09 we couldn't let that happen. Now, before
1:11 I get started, quick heads up. My
1:13 agency, The Search Initiative, is now
1:14 taking on a handful of new clients. If
1:16 you want results like this, we're
1:18 offering $1,000 off month one in
1:20 exchange for a testimonial down the
1:21 road. Just head on over to the
1:23 searchinitiative.com, put your deets
1:24 into the form, and we'll hit you up. All
1:26 right, let's get cooking. So, why would
1:29 you want to optimize your website for AI
1:31 anyways? Because not too long ago, when
1:33 fine cultured people would search for
1:35 something like premium Japanese whisies,
1:37 they'd get served a set of websites from
1:38 Google. And if you were the number one
1:41 mofos like uisuki.com here, then you
1:44 were like, I'm rich. But now the search
1:46 result looks like this where AI
1:48 overviews are summarizing the answer.
1:50 There's links over on the right but no
1:52 link to our tomodachi that means friend
1:55 in Japanese. Usuki AI SEO is not only
1:57 about getting your brand featured in the
1:59 link section of the AI overviews. You
2:02 also want to show up in chat GBT. Usuki
2:04 is number one on freaking Google for its
2:06 coveted keyword but not even listed here
2:08 for online whiskey retailers in chat
2:10 GBT. So how do you get into the AI
2:12 answers? Think of it like this. If the
2:15 AI uses you to come up with its answer,
2:17 then it's likely to link to you. So, the
2:19 name of the game is to do all the things
2:21 that make the AI want to use your
2:23 content. But where do we begin? First,
2:24 you need to figure out all the AI
2:26 opportunities in your niche so you can
2:28 target them and optimize for them. HRS
2:30 recently launched a new tool called
2:32 Brand Radar. It lets you find out what
2:34 AI is saying about your brand. Enter
2:36 your brand name, product, or service and
2:38 hit enter. I like to add my brand plus
2:40 some competitors to see how I'm doing
2:42 against them and what AI answers I need
2:44 to steal. Once you hit explore, you can
2:45 see the number of mentions of your brand
2:47 versus your competition. Scrolling down
2:49 further, here's where you'll find which
2:51 AI keywords mention you or your
2:53 competitors. If you want to see which
2:54 keywords your competitors have and you
2:56 don't, then set up a filter like you see
2:58 here. And then voila, here we go. Now
3:00 for the meat and potatoes. For the last
3:02 6 months, I've tested countless AI SEO
3:04 theories. Here are the 12 most impactful
3:06 tactics that you can use to make sure
3:08 your website is featured in AI. Let's
3:10 start with how to relearn your content
3:12 strategy. The first tactic is to make
3:15 sure your content is direct and concise
3:16 and not fart around the answer with
3:19 fluff. Here's the AI overview for do
3:21 heat pumps work in water. The top Google
3:23 results are actually from the sites
3:25 Heatable and the Guardian, but they're
3:27 not mentioned in the AI overview. in the
3:28 Heatable article. Yes, it's very cute
3:30 that they use language like when the
3:32 Earth goes cold, we're likely to start
3:34 seeing pigs fly, but AI don't play that
3:36 game. Instead, let's look at Ira's
3:38 article, who actually did get the AI
3:41 overview link. Language like works
3:43 exactly the same way in Winter is more
3:45 confident and direct and immediately
3:47 answers the question. Next, be
3:48 conversational in the tone of your
3:50 content. AI powered search isn't based
3:52 on keywords like the old days of Google.
3:55 It relies on how people actually speak.
3:56 If you search for a keyword like
3:59 15minute home workout, surprise, no AI
4:01 overview. But if you search, what's a
4:04 quick 15-minute workout I can do at home
4:06 without equipment? Sure enough, AI
4:08 overview. So, to get picked up for these
4:09 AI queries, you need to write
4:12 conversationally and not robotically.
4:14 Next, headings. You know, H1's, H2s, and
4:17 so forth play a ridiculously important
4:19 role in how AI systems understand your
4:21 content. Here's how to think about them.
4:23 H1, use a single H1 for the main title
4:25 of your page. H2. Use H2 tags for major
4:29 sections or questions. H3. Use H3s for
4:31 sub points or nested ideas within an H2
4:33 section. For example, here's a heading
4:34 structure for an article on cloud
4:36 hosting. Mailchimp has an article about
4:38 when to post on Instagram with a
4:40 designated H2 for posting on Sundays.
4:42 Sure enough, it was picked up in the AI
4:44 overview for should I post on Instagram
4:46 on Sundays. After that, and this one is
4:49 super easy, add a TLDDR summary at the
4:50 beginning of your article. Providing a
4:53 brief TLDDR, too long, didn't read,
4:55 helps readers and AI quickly grasp the
4:57 key points on your page. Alternatively,
4:59 you can include a key takeaway section,
5:01 which AI also really likes to site. Now,
5:03 before I go on, here's one thing that
5:05 you really need to know. All the AI bots
5:07 need to trust you, your brand, your
5:09 company, your reputation, if they're
5:11 going to site you. So, let's get into
5:13 some AI SEO tactics around brand and
5:16 reputation. Start to regularly check AI
5:18 platforms for what it knows and thinks
5:20 about your brand. Some prompts you can
5:21 use are, "What can you tell me about my
5:23 brand?" and "What does my brand do?"
5:25 Here's an example of what would come up
5:27 in chat GBT. If you see anything that's
5:29 wrong or inaccurate here, you need to
5:32 take action in this next step. Take
5:34 control of your brand narrative. LLMs
5:36 learn about your business and its
5:38 reputation from the following places:
5:40 Google Business Profile, Yelp, LinkedIn,
5:42 Trust Pilot, and so forth. Make sure
5:44 you've claimed these listings and their
5:46 information matches your website's about
5:50 and FAQ pages and the reviews. Bro, do
5:52 everything you can to maintain a high
5:54 star rating. The number of reviews and
5:55 average rating has a stupid amount of
5:58 control over your AI SEO rankings. And
5:59 don't just collect reviews on these
6:02 profiles. Highlight them visibly on your
6:04 website. Next is an industry secret that
6:06 every OG SEO knows. If you want to
6:08 improve your website's trust and
6:10 reputation in Google's eyes, get
6:11 high-quality links from relative
6:13 domains. The oldest story in SEO.
6:15 Backlinks from reputable sites act as
6:18 trust signals for both users and AI
6:20 systems. Now, this isn't a paid promo.
6:21 In fact, they don't know I'm dropping
6:23 this at all, but these days, I've been
6:25 getting high authority links from simply
6:27 media.digital. The quality for price is
6:28 just way too good. Now that you've
6:30 convinced Google to trust your brand, we
6:32 still need to make sure that they trust
6:34 your content, the stuff you write. If
6:36 you think about how AI systems work,
6:37 they dump out a bunch of information and
6:40 they site the content they use so you
6:42 can trust it. You need to do the same
6:44 thing. Use credible sources and provide
6:45 links to them. You also want to publish
6:48 expert-driven content. Use quotes from
6:50 experts to salt bay a dusting of trust
6:52 to your content and include author bios
6:53 with credentials on each of your
6:55 articles. Speaking of credentials, if
6:57 your business has any industry
6:59 certifications or awards, list them on
7:00 your site. If you're a Michelin star
7:02 restaurant, you'd have to be smoking
7:04 crack not to display it. Next, it's not
7:05 just enough to say that you're an
7:07 expert. You have to actually show it. Do
7:09 that with case studies, real world
7:11 examples, client success stories, and
7:13 original research. This not only adds
7:15 credibility, but signals to AI systems
7:17 and Google that your content
7:19 demonstrates firstirhand experience and
7:21 proven results. That's exactly the kind
7:23 of content that AIdriven systems are
7:25 designed to highlight. Now, for the most
7:26 important step of all, I'll quote the
7:28 business legend Peter Ducker, "If you
7:30 can't measure it, you can't improve it."
7:33 You must track your AI traffic in Google
7:35 Analytics 4. Navigate to reports,
7:37 acquisition, traffic acquisition. This
7:38 is where you'll find your general
7:41 traffic stats. Then click add comparison
7:43 at the top. Add a filter for only
7:45 referral traffic. Then under dimension,
7:47 search for session source/medium.
7:49 Yes, I know analytics has the user
7:50 experience of a medieval torture
7:52 chamber, but we're almost done. Under
7:55 match type, select matches reax and then
7:57 paste this big ass regular expression,
7:58 which is also in the description. With
8:00 any luck, you'll have some AI traffic.
8:02 You can see what platforms it came from
8:03 and what pages on your site it's going
8:05 to. So, what was the result of all this
8:08 effort? 2,300% increase in AI referral
8:10 traffic. The client site is appearing
8:12 for 90 keywords and AI overviews
8:14 compared to zero before the campaign.
8:15 And yes, their typical Google SEO
8:17 traffic took off, too. If you'd like us
8:19 to take a look at your SEO, head on over
8:21 to the searchinitiative.com and use the
8:23 form at the bottom to reach out. That's
8:24 it. We'd be happy to take a look at your
