0:04 hello friends
0:06 there could be certain group discussion
0:08 topics where it becomes very difficult
0:12 to take one single firm viewpoint and
0:14 therefore there may be a situation where
0:16 you may have to argue somewhere in the
0:17 mid part
0:19 so an example of very common group
0:22 discussion topic nowadays is
0:24 is it vital for india to ally with
0:28 russia or it's wiser to be an ally of
0:31 united states now this is a situation
0:34 where you may not want to go in a binary
0:37 or a unipolar way therefore in order to
0:39 win at these group discussions always
0:42 follow a technique which is called make
0:45 points for or against the topic and
0:47 therefore you need to make points in
0:49 four categories during the two to three
0:50 minutes which is given to you before the
0:52 group discussion starts you may want to say
0:54 say
0:55 five points
0:58 why it's good to be an ally of russia then
0:59 then
1:02 five points why it's bad to be an ally
1:03 of russia
1:06 similarly five points white it may be
1:09 good to ally with usa and similarly five
1:12 points while it may be bad to make an
1:13 alliance with usa therefore what you're
1:14 trying to do
1:16 is that during the two to three minutes
1:18 which you have while you have to prepare
1:19 for this topic
1:22 you must be ready with all the arsenal
1:24 and depending on how the group is flowing
1:25 flowing
1:27 you may choose to enter
1:30 in an option which may make you stand out
1:31 out
1:33 because you have to not just be logical
1:35 but you also have to be visible so
1:38 suppose everybody is saying russia is
1:39 good good good and russia is our best
1:41 friend best friend then
1:43 you may want to enter by talking about
1:46 points against russia and points in
1:49 favor of usa or vice versa now just to
1:51 give you a idea over here
1:53 when we talk about points in favor of
1:56 russia you could talk about russia is a
1:59 very vital arms partner arm supplier to
2:02 india number two russia is a crucial
2:05 geopolitical partner especially when it
2:07 comes to containing china and balancing
2:09 against pakistan
2:12 number three russia is a strong global
2:14 supporter at forums like united nation
2:16 and whenever india has been in trouble
2:18 russia has tried to bail out
2:20 number four with the security council
2:24 veto seat russia is a very useful ally
2:27 who could help at matters of national
2:29 security and number five you may want to
2:31 talk about strong history of
2:34 relationship where we can expect russia
2:36 to help us in both culture
2:39 technology and various kind of economy
2:41 related supports
2:44 what are the points against russia
2:45 you may want to say that it's not a
2:48 democracy at least technically speaking
2:50 it may be but practically
2:52 we are in a situation where putin has
2:54 time and again been able to manage
2:57 situations where he has been in the main
2:58 position of power
3:01 secondly you may want to talk about
3:03 putin's leadership style
3:06 where it's his way or highway and therefore
3:07 therefore
3:09 one leader who has a certain viewpoint
3:12 can always be a very dangerous person if
3:14 you are going to singularly rely on that person
3:15 person
3:17 number three you may want to talk about
3:20 russia's alliances with china and recently
3:21 recently
3:24 growing proximity to pakistan
3:26 number four you may also want to talk
3:28 about how
3:30 russia has of late been slightly
3:31 distancing because of the fact that
3:34 india has been trying to go out of bare
3:37 russian control and go out to the globe
3:40 natto and usa for arms purchase and
3:42 number five you may want to talk that at
3:45 least economy wise
3:48 economy is even smaller than india so it
3:50 may not be in a position to help india
3:53 so here you have points pro-russia and
3:55 against russia also similarly let's do
3:57 the same analysis for usa so if you want
4:00 to talk in favor of usa you may want to
4:03 talk about world's biggest economic power
4:04 power
4:06 number two you may want to talk about
4:09 still probably the most powerful
4:11 geopolitical force especially with all
4:13 the nato allies rallying behind it
4:15 number three a very strong indian
4:19 diaspora so strong cultural ties and a
4:21 history where indians have really
4:24 preferred to live in usa build careers
4:27 over there and grow as professionals in
4:28 the united states
4:30 number four you may want to talk about
4:34 usa being the largest trade partner for
4:35 india or at least among the top two
4:38 alternating with china and number five
4:41 the quadrilateral alliance where an
4:43 enemy's enemy is a friend
4:46 so india's great worries about china's
4:49 grand rise is something which usa also
4:51 ideologically shares with india so these
4:53 are the points which you could talk
4:54 about and of course you could also talk
4:57 that it's a democracy
4:59 so the fundamental ideology of two
5:01 nations is quite identical but then
5:03 if you want to enter as someone who's
5:06 opposing usa you may want to say that
5:09 usa has used other nations for its
5:12 purpose so past instances of its
5:14 management of the iraq dispute sudden
5:16 pull out from afghanistan shows that the
5:19 moment its own purpose is served it
5:22 drops countries like hot cake
5:24 the second thing you may want to say is
5:25 that usa
5:28 has a very close relationship with
5:30 pakistan and time and again especially
5:32 joe biden has highlighted the very
5:35 controversial kashmir word and therefore
5:38 puts it at a position in odds with
5:40 indian basic philosophy that kashmir is
5:42 our integral part
5:45 number three you may want to say that
5:48 usa is quite far away and for
5:50 some big controversy to happen with
5:53 pakistan and china were to join it it's
5:55 highly unlikely that u.s or nato would
5:58 come to india's rescue number four you
5:59 may talk about the fact that when it
6:01 comes to economy
6:04 usa has time and again tried to bulldoze by
6:05 by
6:07 imposing sanctions and therefore doing
6:09 things which haven't been in india's
6:11 best interest and number five
6:13 you could say that at present we have a
6:15 democratic regime which is
6:17 pro-immigrants and in favor of building
6:19 great relationships but what
6:20 if somebody
6:22 more right wing than donald trump would
6:25 to come back and us were to once again
6:26 go back into its inner shell and focus
6:28 on america first
6:30 so what you have done over here is you
6:33 have made a list of points
6:35 and now in a group discussion you are
6:37 ready to argue both ways so let's give
6:38 you demo of
6:41 five type of situation someone who wants
6:44 to enter as a pro russian speaker so
6:47 you would go something as follows my
6:49 dear friends i think russia is india's
6:51 best friend and best partner and there
6:54 are some important reasons number one
6:57 even today india relies more than 70 for
6:59 all its armed procurements from russia
7:01 so were we to sort of distance from
7:04 russia a big source of arm supply would
7:06 be deprived to us number two
7:08 it's very important that geopolitically
7:10 because of the proximity india maintains
7:12 friendly relationship because if one
7:15 country can contain china that is russia
7:18 number three russia has already been
7:20 generous in terms of supporting india at
7:23 global forums so using its veto power at
7:26 united nations and its security council
7:29 seat it has espoused india's cause many
7:32 a times number four russia has also
7:34 helped india in terms of technology
7:37 beets steel cement commodity on various
7:38 products russia has been helping and
7:41 number five ideologically india and
7:43 russia have had good relationships
7:46 especially in the past when we had a
7:48 government which was more left of the
7:50 center and even today the two nations
7:52 share good bond homies so in case of a war
7:53 war
7:55 if one nation would stand up and come to
7:57 help us it's going to be russia and not
7:59 usa so this is somebody who spoke in
8:02 favor of russia now let's have someone
8:04 who's going to oppose
8:06 how do you oppose my worthy colleague
8:07 you have made some good observation but
8:09 i am very sorry that i can't agree with
8:11 you and there are some reasons why i
8:13 feel that russia cannot be your best
8:16 partner number one it's not a democracy
8:18 at least in spirit and you have
8:20 dictators who have been carrying on in
8:22 one way or another number two presently
8:24 with putin at head there are serious
8:26 doubts about his neutrality and his
8:30 balance if he can invade ukraine at some
8:32 pretext then there is always a risk he
8:34 could change size later on number three
8:37 in recent times russia has been very
8:39 notoriously closing up its ties with
8:41 china and the nation have been sort of
8:43 warming up to each other this is a very
8:44 dangerous trend and therefore risky for
8:47 us to ally in case of some controversy
8:49 number four russia is also now
8:51 beginning to have closer relationship
8:52 with pakistan because at the end of the
8:55 day russia would want to have its own
8:57 self-interest of selling weapons and so
8:59 long as pakistan buys them russia may be
9:01 happy to work together with it and
9:03 number five as an economy russia is
9:05 still very weak and india needs to make
9:07 partners with countries which are richer
9:09 and therefore could help india with
9:12 investment trade opportunities so
9:13 so
9:15 first role as russia supporter second
9:18 role as russia opposer now let's take
9:20 the other way someone who enters as a
9:23 u.s supporter so my dear friends i think
9:24 you have made very good points but
9:27 please allow me to say that why usa is
9:28 our best friend and there are five
9:31 important reasons for that number one
9:33 both the nations share a democratic
9:35 ideology number two at the end of the
9:38 day economy matters and usa being one of
9:40 the biggest economies of the world could
9:42 be a very great supporter for india in
9:45 terms of trade and investment number
9:47 three usa is still a vital opinion
9:49 leader among all the european nations
9:51 and generally the globe as such
9:54 therefore the help and the protection of
9:56 usa could be very vital for india's
9:59 prosperity number four usa has been able
10:01 to maintain a very balanced line when it
10:03 comes to controversial issues related to
10:05 kashmir or others and has refrained from
10:08 intervening directly therefore usa can
10:10 be argued and reasoned with to play a
10:13 neutral role and not interfere
10:14 number five and most important is
10:17 indians have always held usa as a place
10:20 where they can study more education live
10:22 and build prosperity so we have a very
10:25 strong indian diaspora therefore i think
10:27 there is a country which can provide us
10:30 economic welfare can be a market for our
10:32 goods can be a place for our citizens
10:34 can be a protector when it comes to
10:36 geopolitical situations and can be an
10:39 alliance partner when it comes to our potentially
10:40 potentially
10:42 trickily positioned enemies as we may
10:45 say such as china or pakistan
10:47 and finally comes the fourth player who
10:50 may want to enter in as a usa opposer
10:53 so how would that person
10:54 my dear friends i think you have made
10:56 very good points about usa and i agree
10:58 with some of them however i'm sorry to
11:00 say that i can't agree with you fully
11:02 and i think that u.s is a very dangerous
11:04 country to rely as a major ally number
11:07 one usa's relations have always been
11:09 created out of expediency to protect his
11:12 own cause the way it handled iraq or
11:14 afghanistan or testimonials to that
11:16 number two right now we have a
11:18 democratic neutral person like joe biden
11:20 but tomorrow for a right-wing person
11:22 like donald trump to come back
11:24 who were to say that again it may go
11:26 back to a situation where they are more
11:28 towards pakistan and against india
11:31 number three it's also true that usa has
11:33 been armed twisting india to offer major
11:36 compromises on agriculture and at the
11:38 end of the day number four us own
11:40 interested to sell its arms and ammunitions
11:41 ammunitions
11:42 and finally
11:44 we have seen the case of usa and nato
11:46 using countries for the strategic
11:49 geopolitical gains and were we to ally
11:50 with them today
11:52 who were to say that tomorrow in a
11:54 situation where india not to be relevant
11:56 they would dump us like in some sense
11:58 they have done with ukraine and india
11:59 could be in a bigger trouble so i really
12:02 feel that russia is the true reliable ally
12:03 ally
12:06 now my dear friends to end let's talk
12:09 about a harmonizer who gives a mixed
12:11 path and this harmonizer can speak
12:16 my dear friends i think both sides have
12:18 made some wonderful arguments however
12:21 please allow me to take a minute path i
12:24 sincerely believe that for india to grow
12:26 and prosper it's really imperative that
12:28 we maintain a balanced relationship with
12:29 both the countries
12:32 we need russia's arms we need russia's
12:34 technology and we need russia's
12:36 geopolitical support and therefore
12:37 maintaining good relationship with
12:39 russia is extremely important on the
12:42 other hand u.s still being the strongest
12:44 power both economically and militarily
12:46 also needs to be a friend and therefore
12:49 we have to have economic alliance a very
12:52 vital strategic alliance like quad and
12:54 also we have to ensure that at united
12:57 nations usa is a friend and not an enemy
13:00 because it enjoys a great cloud over the
13:02 entire european uh union united kingdom
13:04 and various other powerful countries
13:06 like japan and australia
13:08 so i sincerely believe my friends that
13:10 as a conclusion we should submit to the
13:15 jury that both russia and u.s have vital
13:17 importance factor for our country and so
13:19 we should take a mid path by managing
13:21 relations nicely with both of them
13:23 so these are my thoughts
13:25 and i hope the group would agree to it
13:27 so this is how a harmonizer would
13:28 present the view
13:30 and then a summarizer as i've told in my
13:33 previous videos could take a summary of
13:36 both and without giving his her own
13:38 opinion submit what transpired in the
13:40 group discussion
13:42 so this is gagan singh signing off for
13:44 the day and please remember the real
13:46 secret to win at group discussions or
13:48 interviews or extempories thinking points
13:49 points
13:51 convert points to lines and then finally
13:54 lines to paragraph so if you like my
