I don't know who needs to hear this, but
Detroit might just be the coolest city
no one is talking about, especially
during the holidays. I'm spending the
next 48 hours wandering through
Christmas pop-ups, festive markets, and
the kind of holiday displays that make
the whole city feel like a snow globe.
We're stopping at the coziest coffee
shops, trying some [music] absolutely
phenomenal restaurants, and diving into
all the hidden corners that make winter
in Detroit feel magical. If you've been
sleeping on the city, consider this your
sign added to your holiday travel list.
Let's explore Detroit together.
Hi everyone. Greetings from Detroit.
This is actually my very first time in
the city and I'm here on a solo weekend
and I've heard that Detroit is super
festive around the holidays. So, I'm
super excited to explore. I've actually
just checked into a hotel and it's
called the Siren Hotel and it's a
boutique hotel in downtown Detroit and
it is so chic. Like, I can't wait to
show you. Here is a very quick room
tour. We [music] have a bed and the room
is pretty spacious, but as you can see,
it is quite simple. And here is the
bathroom. I love the tiling in here and
it looks super retro to me, which is
It is quite chilly, so I got all bundled
up before heading out to explore. I want
to show you the lobby very quickly. As I
mentioned, I'm staying at the Siren, and
it is located in downtown Detroit. The
lobby is so chic and cute, and I love
all the details here. This boutique
hotel is so beautiful. Apparently, there
are a lot of Christmas popups in
downtown Detroit. And since my hotel is
downtown, I'm walking over to those
areas right now.
Also, it's only 300 p.m. and it's
already so dark here. Like, what is winter?
winter?
This area is called Hus Detroit and it

goods and of course sweets. [music]
Look at this adorable beer they have
here as well. There's a cute little
truck here selling hot chocolate and
coffee and pastries. And I think I'm
>> Um, can I get a hot chocolate, please?
>> Small or large?
>> Oh, is it made of water or milk? >> Milk.
>> Milk.
>> Perfect. Okay. Yeah. I was like, "Oh, I
got to ask first. I've had some rough
hot chocolates."
>> Yeah. The watermelons are not the best.
>> No, they're not. I'm like, "What' I pay
for this?" >> Exactly.
>> Exactly.
>> I'm glad we're have a mutual
understanding of our [laughter] hot
chocolate standards. >> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> And then, do you have any savory
pastries? It's so cold outside that the
hot chocolate is like a necessity to
warm up.
I love all the lights in this little square.

Oh my gosh, you can even drop off
letters of Santa here. I walked about 5
minutes and now I'm at Cadillac Square
and there are Christmas markets here in
I might have to pop inside the chalet to
warm up because I feel like a popsicle
right now. One thing about me is that I
just cannot skate. I've tried so many
times learn how to skate, but it's just
not for me. So, I will be watching from
There's this super cute pop-up Christmas
market that's right next to the park and
there's about like I would say 30 shops
with different arts and goods. [music]
It's actually a huge space inside. You
order like food and drinks in here as well.
I love the cozy vibes of the Cadillac
Lodge, but it was so busy, so there was
nowhere to sit. So, I'm back out here
wandering again. I'm heading to this
pop-up bar that has festive drinks for
the holidays.
This street is kind of dead, so I'm
hoping that it's not too crazy busy at

And look at how adorable this mug is.
Like [music] I just want to take it home.
I know the number one concern people
have when solo traveling is like eating
alone or going out alone. And here I am
alone at a bar, but I definitely don't
feel awkward. Like I'm just enjoying
myself, enjoying the lights, enjoying my
drink. And plus, I get to talk to you
here. So, it's really not as bad as you
think it is. Like, I genuinely enjoy
solid traveling. All right, so they do
this thing here where they give you a
postcard to mail to anyone you want. So,
I'm gonna fill my postcard and mail it.
>> All right, I'm planning to head to the
Detroit Zoo for their Wild Nights event,
which is a holiday light special, but
I'm heading back to the hotel first to
add on some more layers since the
Detroit Zoo event is outdoors. So, let's
go back to the hotel. I really do like
the location of the hotel, though. Like,
it's so walkable from anywhere in downtown.
All right, I added on another layer of
shirt, so I should be much better now
All right, we have [music] made it to
It's so pretty lit up, but I don't see
any animals like other than a string
like ones. I'm not sure if she'll see
animals cuz it is like snowy. [music]
Well, the river otter are supposed to be
there, but it looks freezing. Like, I
wonder if they're actually still in
there. Honestly, this feels like not the
museum right now because it's not very
crowded [music] and like I'm the only
person in this otter exhibit. Like this
is kind of cool. This is really hard to

They have these cozy lodges set up for
the wild lights, too.
It's so much fun walking through and
seeing all the [music] different
displays. And the snow just makes it
Well, that was so much fun. I'm
generally impressed with how much lights
it had because like that was a lot of
displays. My only thing is I wish they
had more animals. I always saw the otter
and I guess I expected to see more
animals, but it makes sense. Maybe the
Came to this fun spot called El Mary's
for dinner and it is decked out on
Christmas. There's even igloo outside
for dining, but I didn't want to deal
with any outdoors. But it is so fun in
here. I am actually starving because
this is like my first meal of the day
and I might have ordered a little too
much, but I order the mini looks so good.
[music]
Look at this drink I ordered. It's in
this cute little Christmas tree. I mean,
they really know their festive mugs in
Detroit. As I mentioned, I got a little
carried away. I got fried pickles
and cauliflower as starters, but they

it's battered perfectly and it's not too
salty. Tent. These fried cauliflowers

these.
Also, [clears throat] like fantastic.
It's so crispy and it's not too spicy.
Oh, these are so good.
Look at this sandwich I got. It's a hot
honey chicken sandwich. And I did finish
my starters and I do have room for this.
>> I can't believe I managed to eat all of
that. Like that was a lot of food, but I
hate wasting food. So, I did manage to
finish it. Um, but it's such a fun spot.
I love the decor. I love the theme. And
they have so many fun drinks and dishes,
especially for Christmas. So, I love the vibes.

>> Good morning. It looks like a beautiful
day out in Detroit. So, let's go get
All right, so the plan for today is
going to [music] go get some breakfast
first. I found this super cute bakery
that's walking distance and the pastries
look so good. And then I'm thinking
about walking around downtown Detroit a
little bit more. I saw this fun museum
called the form museum that's a little
outside of the city, but I can drive to
it. And then I also found a really chic
[music] dinner spot. I'm really excited
for the plans for today. All right,
let's get some layers on.
Oh my gosh, there's super cute alley here.
It looks like a lot of these shops
aren't open yet, so I'm going to have to
All right, onwards to the bakery.
And we're here,
end up getting a dirty chai and an
almond croissant. Cheers.
Cheers.
This is a good dirty chai.
It's not too sweet either, which is
great. Let's try this almond croissant.
My gosh, it's phenomenal. If you like
pastries, like you have to come here.
So, apparently there's some really good
architecture in Detroit. I'm heading to
a building now called the Guardian
Building and it looks really pretty from pictures.
