0:02 Shakira: my God, you guys eat too many sweets
0:05 can't you think about your cholesterol?
0:06 Rashad: whose fault is it? who got these? hmm
0:10 Shakira: but that is one
0:13 Rashad: whose fault is this? you need sweets
0:21 Shakira: I am sweet enough to eat sweet
0:23 Rashad: but you still need sweets...
0:30 you haven't seen this before?
0:33 documented proof
0:35 I cannot believe he's a liar
0:39 Shakira: I know can you believe this?
0:41 where did they take the picture...?
0:43 Ismail Barakat: yeah, I don’t know... the...
0:45 Shakira: they have to be in front of something
0:46 Ismail Barakat: the scale of the lies
0:48 Shakira: I can't believe it
0:49 Rashad: I know did you read the details?
0:51 Shakira: yeah bunch of bolognese
0:52 Rashad: I have the English translation there
0:57 they say they came to...
0:58 they went to Rashad Khalifa's mosque and investigated him
1:01 and they finally established that he is...
1:04 established once and for all that he is a liar
1:06 and here is proof
1:08 our picture in front of his mosque
1:10 [laughter]
1:15 أعوذ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَـٰنِ الرَّجِيمِ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
1:18 448
1:24 Oh, I love this
1:25 this is my favorite
1:26 let's go to 447
1:30 what the heck, let's starts from the beginning of the Sura
1:34 this is my favorite part
1:35 the people of Heaven visit their relatives and friends
1:37 [laughter]
1:41 it's true, every one of us has some relatives and friends who'll derail
1:45 we're gonna go visit them
1:46 Shakira: we won't feel sad?
1:48 Rashad: no, because did you know they...
1:51 Oh, you missed the ways people go to Hell
1:55 you wanna... you wanna survey?
1:58 yeah, Shakira?
2:00 it's Mahmood's specialty, he surveys the methods of going to Hell
2:04 go ahead, number one
2:05 Mahmood: number 1, they dug under the...
2:08 Rashad: tunnel
2:09 Mahmood: tunnel under the...
2:09 Rashad: under the fence that's number 1
2:11 number 2?
2:12 Shakira: I don't understand
2:12 Ismail Barakat: no, no, no, number 1 is the storming of the gates
2:15 Rashad: the storming of the gates? okay
2:16 Mahmood: okay yeah
2:17 Rashad: the storming the gates of Hell you know they... you know what...
2:19 Mahmood: they all wanna go...
2:21 Rashad: a group of people carrying a big log and there's the gates of Hell...
2:25 they're having...
2:26 storming the gates to go in
2:27 Shakira: and these are the disbelievers?
2:28 Rashad: yes
2:29 Mahmood: they got someone who wanted to...
2:31 Rashad: they're insisting on going in there
2:33 so this is number 1, storming the gates
2:35 number 2, is tunneling their way under the fence
2:37 Mahmood: tunneling their way under the fence
2:38 Shakira: is it in the text?
2:39 Rashad: number 3
2:40 [laughter] almost
2:41 guy: Sura 115
2:42 Rashad: we'll get to that later, but listen to this first
2:45 the method,
2:46 this is what we realize on the Day of Judgment
2:48 this is why you will not be sad
2:49 Shakira: storming the gates and then tunneling under it
2:51 Rashad: wait, wait, this is to answer your question,
2:53 'are we gonna feel sad for the people in Hell?'
2:56 Shakira: yeah
2:57 Rashad: this is question here is the answer
2:58 we're going to find out on the Day of Judgment,
3:01 this is how they got to Hell
3:02 some of them strom the gates
3:04 number 2, some of them tunnel their way under the fence
3:07 Ismail Barakat: they tackle the 19 angels who guard Hell
3:10 and try to beat them
3:11 Rashad: number 3, listen
3:13 Mahmood: they pole vault?
3:15 [laughter]
3:15 Rashad: pole vaulters
3:17 Shakira: the what?
3:17 Rashad: pole vaulters
3:18 Shakira: Oh, pole vaulters
3:21 Rashad: and you know, they jump over it Oh, I barely made it
3:24 Shakira: I got it I got that [laughter]
3:28 Rashad: and as soon as they fall down they raise their arms
3:31 made it
3:32 Ismail Barakat: because Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
3:35 built solid walls around Hell to keep people from getting in
3:39 Rashad: yes
3:40 Ismail Barakat: and they get in by fighting their way in
3:42 Rashad: exactly
3:43 Ismail Barakat: this is what they are saying
3:43 lady: the final... the final wall was 19
3:47 Rashad: yes 19 walls, 19 fences
3:50 Shakira: so, now tell me, pole valuting tunneling and barging?
3:54 Mahmood: next one is one big, huge one for...
4:00 Rashad: seesaw in a circus
4:01 Shakira: Ok, seesawing it
4:03 Rashad: no, wait no, no, we didn't, no...
4:07 coming up
4:08 you know, the circus... we jump on this and they go up, way up, somersault
4:13 somersault their way hey, I made three somersaults
4:15 Mahmood: the problem is who will take the big one, now?
4:18 [laughter]
4:20 Rashad: the next one, number 5
4:21 Ismail Barakat: no, no, the big one you see, they open the gates
4:24 and let him in
4:25 [laughter]
4:27 Shakira: because there are 7 gates
4:30 Rashad: yes, number 5
4:31 Mahmood: number 5
4:32 Rashad: there are 7 gates
4:32 Mahmood: they all go in cannon
4:34 Rashad: the cannonball human cannonball
4:37 Mahmood: and they fire it
4:38 Shakira: now, where did you get all this from?
4:40 [laughter]
4:42 guy: Sura 115
4:43 [laughter]
4:44 Rashad: Sura 115 [laughing]
4:45 [laughter]
4:49 Shakira: It's your imagination...
4:53 [laughter]
4:56 Rashad: even if gets very scary
4:58 Shakira: no, but in the Quran it says that
5:00 the people decide to come towards Heaven
5:02 and then they can't, they won't be able to stand it and they'll go back
5:05 they'll keep going back, they'll try to go and come back
5:07 and try to go and come back
5:08 and here they're pole vaulting
5:11 Rashad: yes, no, we're talking but now they are doing this
5:13 see now they are... like for example
5:15 how do you explain the guy, we tell him, Surah Qãf has 57 Qãfs
5:19 he says no, the word فَحَقَّ
5:22 because there is a Shadda on it it's 2 Qãfs
5:24 It's فَحَقَقَ
5:26 it's not 57, it's 58 there's no miracle there
5:28 how... how do you stop this guy?
5:30 now this guy is trying a cannon
5:32 Ismail Barakat: no, no, no, God doesn't want them to go to Hell
5:35 God wants them all to go to Paradise
5:37 Rashad: in fact, Sura 39 says, God does not like it
5:40 Shakira: they insist on going to Hell that's what it says
5:42 Rashad: there you go that's the answer to your question
5:43 Shakira: they insist
5:43 Rashad: so, we will not be sad because we will realize that
5:46 they tried all these methods to force themselves into Hell
5:51 I usually, I used, they jumped the fence
5:54 this is the only thing I've used I've used because this is what I used to do
5:57 when there was a soccer ball in my hometown
6:00 and they are fighting for the final championship
6:03 and they have... at the club the soccer balls,
6:05 the two champion teams coming to my hometown
6:09 and they have police on horses patrolling the fence out there
6:12 I was there, an expert in jumping fences
6:15 that was a... that was a high fence, like 7 feet
6:17 with the things pointing and the head like that
6:20 so, I wait until two horses were facing the other way and then....
6:24 and I'm in the club to watch the game
6:26 must have been 7 years old
6:28 [laughter]
6:30 Shakira: you know, in India they have walls with the glass on top of it
6:33 Ismail Barakat: right, they have the same thing in Egypt
6:35 It doesn't stop them, though
6:36 Shakira: It doesn't, yeah I used to climb over it
6:38 Rashad: yeah
6:39 Shakira: and go and steal grapes
6:41 [laughter]
6:42 and one day the guy came behind me
6:44 you know, my grandfather he's the dean of Osmania University
6:49 and I used to do these terrible things my sister and I, we jumped it
6:54 and we went into the grape garden and we stole the grapes,
6:56 and we jumped back
6:57 the man came behind us with a stick
6:59 [laughter]
7:00 Rashad: you never forget that
7:01 Shakira: he came behind us with a stick
7:03 and my uncle, you know the Nizam of Hyderabad
7:07 he is the architect for the Nizam of Hyderabad
7:09 and they were constructing this big thing for the Nizam, my uncle
7:13 and he took us there, and this is what we were doing
7:15 Rashad: I know
7:17 Shakira: he... was so ashamed of us
7:19 that he just said these people don't belong to us
7:21 Rashad: I don't know them
7:22 I never saw them in my life these grape thieves
7:26 Shakira: we were little kids
7:29 I don't know these people who are these people? I don't...
7:32 Oh, my God
7:33 Rashad: so, I used to jump the fence to get into the soccer game
7:36 and these people in Hell, we will realize that they insisted
7:39 they jumped so many fences to go to Hell
7:42 Shakira: they insist on going to Hell
7:44 Ismail Barakat: but you see, what you did Al-Roshd
7:45 you waited until the guards weren't looking
7:47 Rashad: right
7:48 Ismail Barakat: these guys are gonna attack
7:49 Rashad: yes, exactly
7:51 in fact they said that 19 of the guards of Hell
7:55 leave them to me
7:56 some big guards
7:58 Shakira: so your imagination, he used his imagination to these 5 things?
8:02 Behrouz: no
8:03 Rashad: yes
8:03 Behrouz: he has 19 ways...
8:04 Rashad: we are thinking of the ways and means
8:06 that they are forcing themselves
8:10 Shakira: yeah, some of them can go in a tank
8:13 Rashad: how about balloons?
8:15 Ismail Barakat: yeah, yeah
8:16 Shakira: you don't have a tank?
8:18 Mahmood: they can go...
8:19 Shakira: hot air balloons
8:20 Ismail Barakat: balloons are not very good, Al-Roshd
8:22 because you see hot air rises
8:24 Rashad: he's talking about the kite
8:25 Ismail Barakat: same thing...
8:26 Mahmood: Oh, yeah, they have a lot of balloons
8:27 Ismail Barakat: It keeps going up
8:28 Rashad: but he will let go he'll jump from it or something
8:32 yeah, the kite he's talking about the kite
8:34 Mahmood: the kite, no... the hang glider
8:38 Rashad: isn't it a kite also same name?
8:40 Ismail Barakat: yeah, this is an excellent subject for Mad Magazine
8:44 [laughter]
8:49 Mahmood: hang glider, yes and they can use trampoline
8:53 Rashad: there's a profound word coming up here
8:55 that also adds to jumping the fence
8:58 something that's happened to Ismail
9:01 it gives an example of the disbeliever jumping the fence into Hell
9:05 because the second verse here uses the word
9:06 لزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًۭا
9:07 which I translated here as "the blamers"
9:10 some guy came to Ismail and said,
9:12 what is ٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ?
9:13 you know
9:14 he leaves all the straightforward verses in Quran, he's asking
9:16 can you tell me?
9:17 If you are so clever you and Rashad and your people
9:20 you know what ٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ is?
9:21 Ismail said "goat"
9:22 will this satisfy you now?
9:24 okay, now what? [laughter]
9:29 it's a strange word
9:31 زَجْرًۭا means to blame
9:33 Ismail Barakat: yeah
9:34 ٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ is the blamers
9:36 lady: the blamers
9:36 Rashad: but he picks out this strange word
9:38 and says, okay if you are so clever, tell me
9:40 what does it mean ٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ?
9:41 he wanted "goat"
9:43 [laughter]
9:44 Ismail Barakat: Al-Roshd
9:45 If he knows the meaning of ٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ
9:47 he'd be a good believer
9:48 Rashad: yes, now here's the meaning okay, now what
9:53 أعوذ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
9:56 in the name of God most Gracious, most Merciful
9:59 by the arrangers in columns
10:01 and the blamers of those to be blamed
10:05 now we're talking about angels here
10:07 because we have in another verse in another Sura
10:11 the angels say we are the arrangers
10:13 or actually, it's in this Sura, excuse me it's coming later, yeah
10:17 we are the arrangers
10:18 so, apparently the angels will play a role in the resurrection process
10:22 and arranging all the people
10:24 Shakira: that's gonna take a long time
10:27 Rashad: who cares? we have infinity
10:28 [laughter]
10:31 he's thinking in appointments you know
10:33 how many patients, today
10:35 Shakira: if they make me comfortable that's okay
10:37 Rashad: right
10:38 In Shã Allah
10:39 and the blamers of those to be blamed
10:40 because the angels, remember they're gonna beat up the disbelievers
10:43 they blame them
10:44 you know, we served you God gave you so many chances
10:47 and you still disbelieved
10:48 you're unappreciative
10:51 smack, smack
10:53 what is hitting? smack is a kiss
10:55 lady: no, smack is also a hit
10:56 Rashad: so, also a hit, okay
10:59 smack, smack kick, kick
11:01 Shakira: but these are blaming each other, right?
11:03 and the blamers of those to be blamed
11:04 Rashad: no, no, they blame the disbelievers.
11:07 Shakira: yeah, they're blaming each other
11:09 Rashad: the angels are blaming the disbelievers
11:11 Shakira: Oh, okay
11:12 Rashad: the arrangers and the blamers are angels
11:14 also the reciters of the messages
11:16 Shakira: Masha Allah
11:17 Rashad: angels
11:17 Shakira: that's why we have you
11:19 we have you with us, I mean
11:21 Rashad: these are all angels the arrangers, the blamers, the reciters
11:26 so God is stating these profound facts, three of them,
11:29 and then God says the result of...
11:31 the result: your god is only one
11:35 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them
11:38 and Lord of the easts
11:40 I'm having a heck of a time Ismail, translating
11:43 ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ easts
11:44 because what it really means is the Sun rise, the Jupiter rise
11:48 the Saturn rise
11:49 the Mars rise
11:50 Ismail Barakat: Ah, I see, I see
11:52 Rashad: these are the easts
11:54 really It's not east it's the rises
11:55 Ismail Barakat: yeah, there is a...
11:56 Rashad: but how do you translate it to English so the people understand
11:59 Ismail Barakat: there is a technical term...
12:01 lady: rising Sun...?
12:02 Ismail Barakat: yes... there is an astronomical term
12:08 Rashad: Ok, I'm making... I'm making this known to everybody
12:10 so they come up... come up with a good word
12:13 as soon as you wake up, Lydia think about this
12:16 Lydia: yes, I'm here, I'm here, maybe...
12:19 I don’t think it's common word
12:22 Rashad: you talk about the Sun and the moon here
12:25 If you talk about the sun and the moon
12:31 Oh, you're going to the airport?
12:32 Soãd: yeah
12:32 Rashad: you're going now?
12:34 Soãd: yeah
12:34 Rashad: okay, good luck to you
12:36 Soãd: Salaam Alaykum, Salaam Alaykum
12:38 guy: Alaykum Salaam
12:39 Shakira: Khada Hafez who is she?
12:41 Rashad: she is my sister
12:42 she's going now to take her medical exam
12:45 ECFMG
12:46 Shakira: Oh...
12:48 Rashad: ECFMG
12:49 Shakira: I didn't see her yesterday
12:51 Rashad: yes, she was here she is very..., she hides
12:53 she's very shy
12:54 Ismail Barakat: Oh, okay
12:54 Rashad: I mean, I should have brought her to you
12:59 Shakira: well, I'm sure she'll do a good job,
13:01 Rashad: Insha Allah
13:02 Shakira: is she giving her ECFMG?
13:03 Rashad: yeah
13:04 Shakira: what is it now? it's January?
13:05 yeah, they have it in January
13:07 Rashad: yes January 20th tomorrow
13:09 Shakira: yeah, this is the day
13:10 Rashad: yeah, no, 23rd,
13:12 23rd, Tuesday yeah
13:14 Shakira: Insha Allah
13:20 Rashad: yeah, your god only one
13:23 so now, the Lord of the easts, you know what it means now
13:26 one time
13:31 I was in Washington, D.C. and
13:34 the question of Ramadan came up
13:39 so, I reached for the newspaper the Washington Post
13:42 to show the person that the new moon
13:45 you can see the new moon in the paper
13:48 and it will tell you when the new month is
13:50 you don't need to go out and look through the clouds for the moon
13:53 which is very thin slice, impossible to see by binoculars and all this
13:57 especially, if you're blind like Ben Bez and try to decide when the..., you know
14:02 so you know what I found in the Washington Post
14:05 you can pick it up at any drug store
14:08 they have the moon...
14:09 ...all solar system
14:10 Ismail Barakat: yeah, and in the paper in Vancouver Sun
14:13 Rashad: yeah, but I was really amazed
14:16 lady: we... do we have the...
14:19 Rashad: yes, we have the sun and the moon here
14:22 yes, but at the Washington Post and probably the New York Times
14:26 the major newspapers, I know the Washington Post does it every day
14:30 I mean if you want to see what time Saturn rises
14:35 and the new...
14:36 the new Saturn
14:37 it's just a...
14:39 Ismail Barakat: ...they don't even know what Saturn looks like
14:43 Rashad: which one has the rings?
14:44 audience: Saturn
14:45 Rashad: Saturn has the rings on it
14:46 Ismail Barakat: you can't see it with the naked eye
14:48 you need... you need a scope
14:50 Mahmood: Mars is red, you can see that
14:52 Ismail Barakat: yeah but I'm color blind
14:53 to me they're all alike
14:58 Mahmood: and also the time they rise, is different
15:00 Ismail Barakat: yeah, of course
15:02 Rashad: those people are so behind you know
15:05 Behrouz: but this is all according to our Sun
15:08 Rashad: yes, yes, the Earth
15:11 because we were sitting in a place that's half light and half dark
15:14 so, we have the rises
15:15 and we're rotating
15:16 so, we have the rises of all these planets
15:20 Behrouz: one time...
15:21 Rashad: as far as anything in the heaven is concerned
15:23 there's rise and set because of our rotation
15:28 Behrouz: yeah, because there's no one else
15:32 Rashad: why do I do rotation like this? actually, it's like this
15:36 It doesn't matter, we may be upside down
15:38 let's say we're sitting upside down right now
15:42 Behrouz: but there's another time...
15:44 Rashad: and Ismail's hat doesn't fall off
15:46 Ismail Barakat: it never does
15:47 Emily: I always didn't understand when I was little, you know
15:50 we talked about everything around us
15:52 I was wondering how come nothing fell
15:54 I didn't understand gravity having a hard time, I was very little
15:57 Rashad: the way to understand it, is to imagine an ant walking on this globe
16:00 Emily: yeah
16:01 Rashad: the ant is walking around, it's cool, on this globe
16:03 Emily: yeah, I understand it now but...
16:05 Rashad: upside down
16:06 Emily: no, I was a little kid I understand it
16:09 Rashad: so, this is the way we are
16:11 Emily: yeah, but it's wonderful because I was mesmerized
16:14 fascinated by it
16:16 Rashad: sorry, Behrouz, I interrupted you
16:18 Behrouz: so, one time you talked about the two easts and two wests
16:22 Rashad: right, that's the sun and the moon or, yeah, sun and the moon
16:27 two major things
16:28 Behrouz: two majors for the humans and jinns
16:31 Rashad: right
16:32 Ismail Barakat: what's that again?
16:33 Behrouz: I like that one better
16:34 Rashad: or the sunrise for the humans and the jinns
16:36 Ismail Barakat: so, it's the same thing...
16:40 Rashad: yeah, but you see...
16:42 Behrouz: for jinns won't be, I mean might be something different
16:45 Rashad: well, the jinns on earth they'll have the sunrise and the sunset
16:48 Ismail Barakat: the same as ours
16:49 Rashad: no, but God wanted to make a point
16:50 that there are two sets of creatures on Earth
16:53 Sura Al-Rahmaan, for example is directed to the two
16:55 two, I mean ٱلثَّقَلَین
16:57 these are called ٱلثَّقَلَین
16:58 the humans and the jinns
17:00 so, God is talking to them separately because
17:03 they have separate needs
17:06 for example, a jinn will not care about steak
17:09 but you would
17:10 you don’t care about the box of matches, for dinner
17:14 but they like it maybe to them
17:16 I mean, I don't know what they like for dinner
17:19 so, if God describes heaven to them as fruits and rivers of milk and honey
17:24 and they don't care about these things
17:26 they say oh, we don't want to go there
17:28 so, that... what was that?
17:30 guy: Fatiha on Tuesday don't forget that
17:33 Mahmoud: Fatiha on Tuesday
17:33 Rashad: Soad again? Oh!
17:36 boy, she's nervous about the test [laughter]
17:39 she'll call us from the airport also
17:41 don't forget, Fatiha Tuesday
17:44 Ismail Barakat: in the Quran, I think is directed to us, not to them
17:49 Rashad: are you kidding?
17:50 Ismail Barakat: it's directed to us
17:51 Rashad: no, no to us and the jinns
17:54 Shakira: what jinns?
17:55 Rashad: قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ
17:57 Shakira: a group of jinns...
18:02 we'll send the jinns to you to listen to the Quran
18:04 it's to them, also
18:07 فَلَمَّا قُضِىَ وَلَّوْا۟ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِم مُّنذِرِينَ
18:13 so, they went to their people they are jinns also
18:16 now all the jinns in the world
18:17 now know about this message and the miracle of 19
18:24 Shakira: so, what does it mean when it says
18:27 Lord of the two easts and two wests?
18:30 Rashad: again, it's the sunrise and moonrise, sunset, and moonset
18:33 Ismail Barakat: or according to Behrouz...
18:36 Rashad: Ismail, do you ever think of that term, that astronomical term?
18:41 Ismail Barakat: yeah
18:41 Rashad: maybe, you can call the astronomy department again
18:44 and see what this means
18:45 how can express it in an English word?
18:47 Ismail Barakat: there's one word that says exactly that
18:49 Rashad: yes, we have the best astronomy department here
18:52 one of the best in the world
18:54 audience: we...
18:55 Rashad: yes
18:56 okay, since you're familiar with them by now
18:59 keep calling them
19:01 ask them, how can you express in one English word
19:04 the rise of Saturn and Jupiter and Mars and Venus and the moon?
19:09 Shakira: can't you say rise of the planets?
19:11 Rashad: yes, that will explain it
19:13 Ismail Barakat: the planet rising, so we say sunrise, moonrise
19:15 sunset, moonset
19:16 Rashad: yes, the rise of the planets is a good expression
19:20 we're getting there except it's not just the planets
19:22 Ismail Barakat: actually
19:22 Rashad: stars
19:23 Ismail Barakat: ...Rashad, the best way to express it, is as Shakira said it
19:28 Rashad: the rise of the stars and the planets
19:30 Ismail Barakat: because this is easily understood
19:31 Rashad: the rise of the heavenly bodies
19:33 Ismail Barakat: yeah, if you use the technical term
19:36 people will be distracted
19:37 Shakira: they won't know heavenly bodies will confuse...
19:40 Rashad: yeah, well let's see how... what they come up with
19:43 may come up... may turn into a beautiful word
19:45 Mahmoud: ...a footnote
19:47 Emily: then people will have to...
19:48 Rashad: yes that's a good idea also
19:50 but anyway this what easts means in number 5
19:53 number 6
19:54 we have adorned the lowest heaven with beautiful stars
19:57 those billion trillion stars are in the lowest, innermost and smallest
20:02 of the seven universes
20:05 number 7
20:06 and guarded it from every evil devil
20:10 this is the prison cell for Satan and his angels
20:15 the devils Satan and his angels
20:17 good expression
20:18 Ismail Barakat: remember the...
20:19 Shakira: what do you mean Satan and his angels?
20:21 Rashad: because Satan is a temporary god here
20:24 and the devils are his angels
20:25 they help him they work for him
20:27 Shakira: but we shouldn't call them angels
20:29 Rashad: well, Satan's angels yes, you can use this expression
20:33 for example, God tells... calls the believers
20:37 the believers say کفرنا بِشِرْكِكُمْ
20:39 we are Kafirs of their idolatry
20:41 Shakira: yes
20:42 Rashad: but the word Kafir is generally used for a disbeliever, a pagan
20:46 so you can use that
20:48 it's actually... it's a very expressive...
20:50 Shakira: yeah it's a very expressive
20:51 Rashad: term
20:52 Shakira: but it is confusing if somebody doesn't already know a lot about the Quran
20:56 Rashad: well, but if you wanna say Satan's angels, it's understandable
21:00 Shakira: yeah
21:00 Rashad: once you say Satan's angels actually, it paints a picture of a god
21:05 with a small "g" and his assistants
21:10 Shakira: Hell's angels
21:12 Rashad: (laughing) motorcycle gangs
21:15 okay, number 7
21:16 guarded it from every evil devil they cannot spy on the High Society
21:20 they get shot from every side
21:22 they are doomed they have incurred an eternal retribution
21:26 if any of them ventures to charge the outer limits
21:29 he gets struck with a fierce projectile
21:32 ask them, are they more difficult to create, or our other creations?
21:37 we created them from wet mud
21:41 of course, it is from the evolution point of view
21:43 wet mud is significant because it's water
21:46 Shakira: you know, Reshma told me that
21:48 because God keeps repeating that He created us, life came from water
21:51 and then He says He made us from clay
21:52 Rashad: Masha Allah
21:53 Shakira: so I said, my God, you know and Reshma said, mummy
21:56 how simple it is, He just took clay and He mixed it with water and He made you
22:00 Rashad: yes
22:01 Shakira: she told me that
22:05 Rashad: good thinking evolution is a divinely guided process
22:09 number 12
22:11 while you are awed they mock
22:14 how true this is
22:15 Shakira: yeah
22:17 Rashad: cuz we are awed of what God created
22:19 and they mock and ridicule
22:21 Shakira: yeah, worried for our necks
22:22 Rashad: yep
22:23 when reminded, they take no heed
22:27 when they see proof, they ridicule it
22:30 they say, this is obviously magic
22:33 after we die and become dust and bones do we get resurrected?
22:36 now, this is number 16 I always emphasize
22:39 because if you take the total picture of the Quran
22:41 this is not what they utter audibly
22:44 it's something in their mind inside their heart
22:46 Shakira: they keep thinking it
22:47 Rashad: even they are not aware of it
22:49 Shakira: I used to think like this, too
22:51 Rashad: mm-hmm
22:52 Shakira: even though, you know, I'm a Muhammad
22:54 I used to be a Muhammadan
22:55 I used to think exactly how am I going to be reborn
22:58 Rashad: right, right
22:59 Shakira: and it's not, you know
23:00 Rashad: well, it's a natural question for a growing person
23:05 and that's why God gives us 40 years to think about it
23:07 to ask these questions
23:11 17
23:12 yes?
23:14 Behrouz: red mud, mud is you know when you think about mud
23:18 you know it's red
23:20 how heavy
23:23 Rashad: طِينٍۢ لَّازِبٍۭ
23:24 Behrouz: using the same mud?
23:26 the word mud?
23:27 Rashad: this means a lot of water
23:29 mud that has a lot of water in it
23:32 طِينٍۢ لَّازِبٍۭ
23:35 Behrouz: ...
23:37 Rashad: Ok, let's take... you have clay holding clay in your hands
23:40 If you add water to it what happens?
23:43 Behrouz: it becomes mud
23:44 Rashad: hmm
23:44 Behrouz: it becomes mud
23:45 Rashad: it is mud already
23:48 wet
23:49 If you hold it in your hand, you add more water, what happens?
23:51 Shakira: it becomes some wet mud he wants you to say that
23:54 Rashad: no, it becomes softer you can't even hold it in your hand
23:56 Ismail Barakat: more malleable so you can mold it
23:58 Rashad: that is the description here
23:59 طِينٍۢ لَّازِبٍۭ here means
24:01 you can not hold it in your hand
24:02 Shakira: Oh!
24:03 Rashad: you can put it in a glass
24:05 Shakira: Oh!
24:07 Masha Allah
24:09 Rashad: very soft
24:14 wet mud
24:15 where are we, 17?
24:17 even our ancient ancestors? say, yes, you will be forced
24:21 wake up...
24:23 19
24:24 all it takes is one one nudge whereupon they stand up looking
24:28 they will say, woe to us this is the Day of Judgment
24:31 "Oops" is gonna be a very popular word
24:35 to be nice about it
24:41 Shakira: like that
24:44 guy: we got it, we got it
24:45 [laughter]
24:47 Rashad: don't show him Mahmoud because Mahmood will show you like this
24:50 Mahmoud: [unintelligible]
24:54 Shakira: like this...
24:57 Rashad: ouch
25:01 21
25:07 this is the day of decision that you used to disbelieve in
25:10 summon the transgressors, and their spouses,
25:13 and the idols they worshiped beside God
25:16 guide them to the path of Hell
25:19 don't worry about spouses
25:20 it's rarely that two spouses make it
25:23 [laughter]
25:24 it's very rare
25:26 it's rare that we have two people in the same town make it
25:28 [laughter]
25:30 let alone...
25:33 summon the transgressors, and their spouses,
25:34 and the idols they worshiped beside God
25:37 guide them to the path of Hell
25:40 stop them, and ask them
25:41 25
25:42 why do you not help one another? what happened to you?
25:46 they will be on that day totally submitting
25:51 no more temporary godhood to anybody
25:54 cause the test is over
25:57 Mutual Blaming, 27
25:59 they will blame one another
26:01 yes
26:01 Shakira: can I ask a question?
26:02 Rashad: sure
26:02 Shakira: they cannot spy on the High Society
26:05 means God and... above the lowest universe
26:09 Rashad: right, we have the first where there are major decision being made
26:15 for example one angel is charged with sending an asteroid to hit Saudi Arabia
26:20 Shakira: right
26:20 Rashad: Ok, and that angel is coming on the way
26:23 and they're talking to each other
26:24 the jins can... can...
26:27 if they have access to that area, they will hear it
26:31 and they come and do something about it
26:33 Shakira: you say like that
26:34 but then in the Quran, it says the jinns are so dumb sometimes
26:37 because remember when Solomon died
26:39 they couldn't even make out that he was dead for a while
26:41 Rashad: but when he fell down, they knew, right?
26:42 Shakira: then they knew when he fall down
26:44 Rashad: well, yeah I mean, when if... obviously one angel is telling the other one
26:47 he is going at speed of... million times the speed of light
26:50 telling his friend where are you going?
26:52 want to send an asteroid to Saudi Arabia, you know
26:54 everybody will hear that
26:56 any one in the vicinity
26:58 Ismail Barakat: Oh, no, they may... they may...
27:00 they may be communicating mentally
27:01 Rashad: mentally, exactly
27:02 Ismail Barakat: and... and these can...
27:04 Rashad: yeah, I'm just putting it in our terms
27:07 they can intercept communication
27:09 Ismail Barakat: communication
27:10 Rashad: yeah
27:11 Shakira: you tell this to the people, they think we are crazy
27:13 Rashad: yeah
27:14 they don't... they don't stand... they can't comprehend it
27:18 Ismail Barakat: they don't believe look, let me tell you something
27:21 most people don't really believe that they’re going to die
27:25 Shakira: no, no, they know that they will die
27:27 Rashad: you're quoting the Quran
27:29 Shakira: they believe they are not going to die
27:30 Ismail Barakat: in their heart
27:31 Rashad: yes يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ
27:33 Ismail Barakat: if it crosses their minds that they are going to kick the bucket
27:35 Rashad: not me, yeah (laughing)
27:37 Lydia: you'd think... anything
27:40 Rashad: right
27:43 Ismail Barakat: It happens all around them and they forget it very quickly...
27:48 Rashad: It's always somebody else
27:50 Ismail Barakat: so, when you tell them they're coming back
27:52 Rashad: forget it
27:56 you know, it amazed me when we calculated the end of the world
28:01 it amazed me how many people were really upset
28:04 I never forget the Mufti of Syria, you know
28:06 because he was announcing in Algeria, in the conference,
28:08 and this guy was pounding I'm sure he broke a few bones in his hand
28:12 he was pounding on the thing and said لَا تَأْتِيكُمْ إِلَّا بَغْتَةًۭ
28:16 it comes to you suddenly
28:18 Ismail Barakat: for him, yeah for him, it's going to come...
28:19 Rashad: I told him that (laughing)
28:21 I said, for you it will
28:23 13 times in the Quran says, only for the disbelievers will come suddenly
28:26 he was quoting this expression in the Quran
28:29 and consistent in the Quran
28:31 only the disbelievers it comes to them suddenly
28:33 and that guy went through fits, you know
28:36 Ismail Barakat: yeah because really they don't believe in it
28:38 Rashad: some kind of active epilepsy
28:41 Shakira: why He created us?
28:44 Behrouz: why He what?
28:45 Shakira: why did He create us in the first place?
28:47 I mean, just even a soul, why?
28:50 Rashad: God?
28:50 Shakira: yeah, why?
28:52 Rashad: are you related to Edip? No, (laughing)
28:58 we will know why
29:00 Ismail Barakat: I don’t think...
29:01 Shakira: maybe because He turned to the vast, lightless universe, and said "Be"
29:04 Rashad: mm-hmm
29:05 Shakira: why?
29:06 Rashad: well, I have to quote God's...
29:09 quote from the Quran you don’t ask Him why
29:11 لَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُ why You did that
29:16 for the sake of knowing
29:17 Ismail Barakat: yeah, the creation of the universe is for this test
29:20 Rashad: yes, I know that but, no she meant even initially
29:23 Ismail Barakat: initially?
29:24 Rashad: yes
29:25 Ismail Barakat: you know the answer to this
29:26 Shakira: this is already too far gone
29:27 Ismail Barakat: you know the answer, the answer I always give, Shakira
29:30 on the Day of Judgment, ask
29:31 Shakira: I will, Insha Allah
29:33 Rashad: well, of course, on the Day of Resurrection, we'll know
29:35 we will know anyway
29:36 everything will be known
29:37 yeah, the purpose
29:42 but even as far as this universe is concerned
29:44 no, He does say why
29:47 we did not create the heavens and the earth except for a specific purpose
29:50 Shakira: and also not for us to play
29:52 Rashad: this purpose is stated in Sura 67
29:54 Shakira: repealedly, it says not to play
29:55 Shakira: not to play but for hard work
29:58 Rashad: yes
29:58 Shakira: He didn’t create it for playing
30:00 Rashad: right
30:00 Shakira: it's for hard work we have to work hard
30:02 the human being has to work hard
30:05 Ismail Barakat: no..., is that what is meant? no, I think...
30:09 Rashad: لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
30:13 for example, why are you awake now, Ismail, why are you awake now?
30:19 Ismail Barakat: because I'm here If I've been elsewhere, I'd be fast asleep
30:22 Rashad: no, you still wake up for Fajr
30:25 Ismail Barakat: well, I think what Shakira is saying, Al-Rashad is...
30:29 is that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala I don't know where, the quote
30:33 but He says that He did not create this universe...
30:37 He says that life on earth is nothing but fun, games
30:41 and it's not... not to be taken seriously
30:45 Shakira: I don't understand what you're saying
30:49 Rashad: you're not supposed to play
30:51 Shakira: I'm sure we know, we understand it exactly like that
30:53 Rashad: لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
30:54 in other words,...
30:55 Shakira: and possibly we understand the same thing to do...
30:57 Rashad: this is why you are up now
31:00 to show you...
31:01 he is up now
31:03 Shakira: we are working hard right now
31:04 Rashad: yes
31:05 Ismail Barakat: I'm not working...
31:07 [laughter]
31:07 Shakira: we are having a good time Masha Allah
31:09 Rashad: no, but if you didn't come across you didn't come across this message
31:13 you'd be fast asleep at this moment, right now
31:15 Shakira: yeah, so according to God
31:16 Rashad: most people out there...
31:18 Shakira: this is work
31:18 Rashad: here comes my favorite impersonation...
31:22 Shakira: He says in the Quran that it's very hard for you to get up in the morning
31:26 and pray, I know that it is hard for you to get up and pray in the morning
31:29 but not so for the believers
31:30 Rashad: exactly
31:31 Shakira: He says you will get up if you're a believer, it will not hard for you
31:34 Rashad: exactly
31:35 Shakira: so that's why you say like that because you're a good believer
31:37 and it's not hard for you to get up
31:39 It's no longer hard for you it used to be
31:41 but it is not, Masha Allah
31:42 Rashad: I had to beat him up (laughing)
31:49 Shakira: and He specifically says about the morning prayer
31:51 Rashad: Ismail, especially Ismail because he's a night owl
31:55 he goes to bed like 2 or 3 in the morning and in Vancouver the night is 1/2 hour
32:00 Shakira: but you know, I'm sure it's the same with everybody
32:03 but you know Rashad I'm so afraid to miss one Namaz
32:06 Rashad: yes, God bless you Masha Allah, yes
32:08 Shakira: I just panic
32:10 Oh I have to...
32:11 I have to be up, otherwise I panic I have to have to be a better than a
32:13 Rashad: It gets easier and easier,
32:15 you see at first is difficult, then it becomes easier
32:18 but for Ismail, you missed what I said that the night in Vancouver is 1/2 hour
32:22 Ismail Barakat: it's a half hour
32:24 Rashad: you pray Isha and then you shouldn't sleep
32:26 you stick around for 20 more minutes and you pray Fajr
32:30 Ismail Barakat: that's what I do
32:33 many many people...
32:34 lady: the night is short, very short
32:36 Rashad: in the summer
32:38 Shakira: when, you know I was in Alaska in July
32:41 it never became...
32:42 Ismail Barakat: It doesn’t darken yeah
32:43 Lydia: I had a picture that I brought in to Rashad
32:46 they made a
32:47 they had a time-lapse photography of the sun just touching the horizon
32:50 and going back up
32:51 but how do you get sunset, the night and sunrise in there?
32:56 that's 2 second
32:57 Rashad: July 21st
32:59 June, June 21st
33:01 Shakira: I was in Vancouver in July
33:03 Ismail Barakat: July?
33:04 Shakira: yeah
33:05 Rashad: Oh my God, you should've met our people there
33:07 Shakira: but in July I was not a believer
33:09 Rashad: Oh, yes, yeah
33:11 next time, next time be sure to give Ismail your phone
33:14 Shakira: Yeah
33:15 we went to Alaska, we went up to the Arctic Pole
33:18 you know we went up to Denali National Park and Fairbanks
33:22 Rashad: she's been aflame since then
33:24 Shakira: It was so beautiful Anchorage is so beautiful
33:29 Rashad: so in Ramadan, they have just barely enough time to drink
33:32 [laughter]
33:35 Ismail Barakat: you know, In fact it's impossible for me anyway
33:38 it's impossible for me to eat two meals
33:40 Rashad: yes, I know
33:42 even I ate one meal in Ramadan
33:45 Shakira: that is going to be my...
33:46 because I eat so little that if I don't eat it every day, it's hard for me
33:52 Rashad: it doesn’t make it easy you'll be a bit surprised
33:55 Ismail Barakat: just, just like getting up for Faj
33:58 it's the same thing
33:59 Rashad: the first three days are gonna be difficult, but that's it
34:02 Shakira: I'm totally accepting that
34:03 Behrouz: Ziba was saying that she was listening to the talk show on radio
34:06 and the doctors were talking about this diet
34:10 like you start eating certain things
34:13 and they come to the conclusion that after 13 or 15 hours
34:18 your body does not get any food it's from chemical,
34:23 body provides like a antibiotic that cures the whole body
34:28 Rashad: yes, Masha Allah
34:30 Behrouz; do you think that they...
34:31 Ismail Barakat: What does it do? it cures the whole body?
34:32 Shakira: what did he say?
34:34 Rashad: cleansing the body
34:36 Shakira: what did they find?
34:36 Rashad: the hormones
34:37 this doctor was speaking ...listen to it, go ahead
34:41 Behrouz: they found out after 14 hours if you do not eat anything
34:45 the body provides something...
34:47 Rashad: like antibody or the hormones
34:50 Behrouz: that cleans the whole body
34:53 Rashad: it's like a Roto-Rooter and cholesterol
34:58 Behrouz: if you knew this is... how good this is for you
35:02 Rashad: the body produces the Roto-Rooter to clean the veins
35:05 Behrouz: yeah
35:05 Rashad: I believe it
35:10 Ramadan will be..., it's getting shorter and shorter every day
35:13 it's gonna be March this year, it will be March 27th
35:17 Ismail Barakat: now, Ramadan in Vancouver
35:18 Rashad: next year will be...
35:19 Ismail Barakat: around Christmas time is fantastic
35:21 Rashaad: yes sir (laughing)
35:23 the day is half hour (laughing)
35:27 Mahmoud: the day would be half hour
35:29 Ismail Barakat: you know all I used to do was I...
35:31 I don't usually eat a big lunch anyway but I used to
35:35 all I did was miss my coffee in the morning and my coffee in the afternoon
35:38 that was an... that was the extent of...
35:41 Rashad: these guys laugh at me all the time when I get in Vancouver
35:44 because I am all confused about the time
35:46 that's why I ask
35:48 what I ask, he said we still have four hours left
35:52 Lydia: when I go up there in the summer, it's real strange
35:55 I normally go to bed early
35:56 Rashad: yeah
35:57 Lydia: I tend to go to bed and then wake up and pray the Night
35:59 because I've already gone to bed before the Night
36:02 Rashad: yeah, that's right
36:03 Lydia: I have to wake up and pray the Night and then go back to bed
36:07 Ismail Barakat: I used to do this a lot in summer. I'd...
36:09 I'd go to bed and then wake up for Isha
36:15 and then stay up for Fajr and then go to bed
36:18 lady: no, I wouldn't do that
36:19 Rashad: it's a lot of fun anyway Lydia visits DC every year
36:23 Shakira: definitely, Ramadan is starting on 27th?
36:26 Rashad: Insha Allah, yes
36:27 Shakira: Insha Allah
36:28 but why do they make such a big deal of the moon and this and that...?
36:31 Rashad: because of Hadith this is the whole idea
36:33 Isamil Barakat: Hadith
36:34 Shakira: there is a big hassle I mean, they can, they never...
36:36 Rashad: you can tell the Ramadan a hundred years from now
36:38 Ismail Barakat: they screw up every year, every year
36:40 Shakira: every year
36:41 Rashad: yes, they never fasted the same day, last year...
36:44 Shakira: India has one Eid and Pakistan has another Eid
36:47 all the time, every single time
36:49 they never had... they never had these...
36:50 Ismail Barakat: in Egypt now, I understand, Al-Rashad
36:52 they use astronomical means
36:54 Rashad: no, they don't they write it down
36:56 astronomically, Ramadan will begin on March 27th
36:59 Ismail Barakat: yeah
37:00 Rashad: but the stupid Mufti has to tell them it's the 28th or the 26th
37:03 Shakira: yeah
37:04 Rashad: it's never... it's never the right days
37:06 Shakira: and... and
37:07 Rashad: I mean, he seems to go out of his way to oppose the astronomical
37:11 Shakira: and Eid will be on 25?
37:13 Rashad: 26th
37:14 Shakira: 26th
37:15 Rashad: last days is 25 April 25
37:17 Ismail Barakat: and you know, they come up with the dumbest obfuscation
37:20 that it is impossible to determine when the moon appears
37:24 what are you talking about?
37:26 darn Americans put a guy...
37:28 Rashad: on the moon
37:28 Ismail Barakat: at a certain spot within 2 feet of the spot on the moon
37:31 where it's supposed to be
37:32 and you guys can't even see it Jesus Christ
37:35 [laughter]
37:38 Shakira: is it okay to say Jesus Christ?
37:40 Rashad: no
37:41 [laughter]
37:41 Shakira: but I say it all the time
37:44 Jeez, I say Jeez all the time
37:47 Rashad: Jeez, yes, maybe
37:49 I say it "cheese" so, it's mine (laughing)
37:53 Shakira: I can't say Jesus Christ?
37:55 Rashad: no
37:56 better to avoid it
37:58 why?
37:59 Shakira: because you grew up with it
38:01 Rashad: I know, but I mean, I'm asking why you say Jesus Christ
38:04 it's a commemoration
38:07 Ismail Barakat: but usually, you say it... you say it in negative terms
38:10 Rashad: but Satan doesn't know that Satan will point at you and says
38:12 he's commemorating Jesus Christ
38:14 because Jesus is dead, really Jesus will take the appearances
38:19 Shakira: hmm, I like...
38:22 Ismail Barakat: I should stop this one?
38:23 Rashad: yes, definitely
38:26 Ismail Barakat: God willing, it's the last time I say it
38:28 Rashad: yeah, you see Satan hates you, you know that
38:31 and he will play dumb
38:33 says, Ismail Barakat is commemorating Jesus Christ
38:36 God will tell Satan, you know what he means and I know what he means
38:39 "I don't care" Satan
38:40 crybaby, he's the biggest crybaby
38:41 he is! the biggest crybaby
38:45 and invariably God will grant him because we give him the excuse
38:50 so, God grants him his excuse
38:54 says, It's okay go hit Ismail
38:56 Shakira: I'll say something, but
38:58 do you mean everybody has to, God has to forgive me
39:01 and then, I think He was getting bored
39:04 Rashad: who?
39:04 Shakira: God
39:05 Rashad: no, never
39:06 Ismail Barakat: no, no, no
39:07 Rashad: the people in Heaven, this way she said, God forgive me
39:11 because even in Heaven the creatures will never be bored
39:13 this is... two things that would never happen in heaven
39:16 being bored and being tired
39:18 Shakira: He didn't say, bored
39:20 He said, I will take away your worry I will take away your jealousy
39:22 I will take away your tiredness
39:24 He didn't say, I'll take away your boredom
39:25 Rashad: yes, bored, yes
39:27 Shakira: bored?
39:27 Rashad: He takes away being bored you'll never be bored
39:30 Shakira: it says that in the Quran?
39:31 Rashad: yes, in 14 or 15 I forget
39:33 Shakira: okay, don't worry about it so long as you tell me I take your word it
39:36 Rashad: yes, take my word for it
39:39 usually...
39:39 Ismail Barakat: but it'll be awfully boring you know, because you've got
39:42 nearly a trillion years
39:43 Shakira: I know, I keep thinking I'll do pelvic there on my lap...
39:49 Rashad: yep, anything you want
39:50 guy: even change your...
39:52 Rashad: yes
39:53 Shakira: Oh, my God
39:54 Mahmoud: every day will be different
39:56 Rashad: there are no days (laughing)
39:58 Shakira: I know
39:59 Rashad: one last day
40:02 Ismail Barakat: there can’t be any days because the days are...
40:04 Shakira: will be everlasting
40:06 we don't know whether it will be day or night or what
40:09 Rashad: one last day
40:11 Shakira: will we sleep? I don't know
40:14 Rashad: it'll be fun
40:16 mutual Blaming, 27
40:17 they will blame one another they will say to their leaders
40:21 you used to come to us from the right side
40:23 meaning pretending to be righteous
40:26 from the right side
40:28 29
40:28 they will respond, it is you who were not believers
40:32 we never had any power over you it is you who were transgressors
40:36 we incurred our Lord's wrath and now we have to suffer
40:40 we misled you, only because we ourselves were misled
40:44 thus they will all suffer the retribution on that day together
40:47 this is how we requite the guilty
40:49 now why are they in this bad position?
40:51 because of the following verses
40:52 when they were told La Elaaha Ella Allah
40:56 there is no other god beside God
40:57 they turned arrogant
41:00 this is invariably the case
41:02 tell them La Elaaha Ella Allah
41:03 they beat you up
41:05 in fact, I have it on video
41:07 did you watch this video of Bilal Phillips?
41:09 I have this video of Bilal Phillips
41:11 Ismail Barakat: Bilal Phillips is...
41:12 Rashad: he says now Rashad Khalifa
41:13 now Rashad Khalifa exposed himself
41:16 he says, La Elaaha Ella Allah that's it
41:18 can you imagine that? he is telling this person
41:21 all he says is La Elaaha Ella Allah
41:22 doesn't this guy think?
41:23 Ismail Barakat: no, the thing is that the Hadith that he accepts says
41:26 if you say, La Elaaha Ella Allah you are guaranteed paradise
41:29 Rashad: yes this is..., even the Quran, even the Jews and the Christians,
41:32 according to Quran, who say La Elaaha Ella Allah
41:34 they make it to Heaven
41:36 you know the theme of this Quran at the very beginning?
41:39 If you believe in God alone,...
41:40 Ismail Barakat: Sura 2:62
41:42 Rashad: exactly
41:43 even the Jews and the Christians obviously don't recognize Muhammad at all
41:46 even the Jews who say, La Elaaha Ella Allah, they go to Heaven
41:48 and this guy, I have it here on the video anybody can see it
41:52 and he is saying, Rashad Khalifa has gone completely bananas now
41:55 all he says is La Elaaha Ella Allah
41:57 (laughing)
41:58 I mean, what is this?
42:01 Ismail Barakat: well, he says La Elaaha Ella Allah
42:02 La Elaaha Ella Allah Muhammadan Rasoolu Allah
42:04 Rashad: yes...
42:06 Shakira: you know I have such a habit for it that sometimes I automatically say
42:10 and then I just...
42:11 Rashad: it takes you a few months yeah, to get rid of it
42:13 Shakira: yeah, that's true
42:15 Shahada wha does... Shahada mean witness?
42:18 Rashad: yes
42:18 Shakira: Shahada is witness the word, Shahada, mean witness
42:20 Rashad: did Pari share with you her discovery?
42:22 Shakira: no, what?
42:24 Rashad: that was a very significant discovery when she was here the last time
42:27 Shakira: why?
42:28 Rashad: she...
42:29 she said, in the Quran, we witnessed God
42:32 Shakira: Oh, yeah
42:32 Rashad: Sura 7 did she tell you? yeah
42:34 but we never witnessed any of... any of the messengers
42:38 Shakira: yes, of course we witnessed God
42:39 because it says very clearly
42:41 Rashad: yes, and this is why God states the Shahada in the Quran
42:44 in 3:18
42:45 as La Elaaha Ella Allah
42:46 and here it is again
42:48 35
42:48 while they are in this dilemma
42:50 when they were told La Elaaha Ella Allah
42:52 they turned arrogant
42:53 Shakira: no, but in the Quran...
42:54 Rashad: they said, shall we leave our gods for the sake of a crazy poet?
43:00 wow!
43:01 this is what this guy said
43:04 Shakira: Rashad, in that verse God says, remember He brought us all
43:08 in front of Him
43:09 Rashad: yes
43:09 Shakira: and then, so it's very clear there
43:11 that we saw Him and He told us that
43:13 Rashad: yes, and the word Shahada is used
43:15 do you bear witness I am your Lord?
43:17 Shakira: yeah
43:17 Rashad: and we said we bear witness
43:19 قَالُوا۟ شَهِدْنَآ I mean, they use
43:20 God uses the same word
43:23 Oh, you didn’t hear this before
43:24 but that was a very good point that Parivash brought up
43:28 you know
43:28 Ismail Barakat: the word, Shahada only applies to God
43:31 in Quran...
43:32 Rashad: no but it's a fact... it's Quranic, God says
43:41 so, this is in the Quran that every human being on earth witnessed
43:47 that God is our Lord
43:49 Ismail Barakat: yeah, it is this...
43:50 Rashad: we never, we never witnessed that Muhammad is a messenger of God
43:53 or Isa is a messenger of God or anybody is a messenger of God
43:55 Shakira: yeah
43:57 Rashad: so, to say أشهد أن محمد رسول الله
43:59 is a lie
44:00 in fact, this is why God says when the hypocrites say
44:02 أشهد أن محمد رسول الله
44:04 God says, God knows you are His messenger
44:07 and God knows they are liars
44:08 because they are stating a lie
44:10 even though the body is witnessed, but the person
44:13 the soul, never witnessed that
44:15 Shakira: Masha Allah
44:16 Rashad: that's a very good point
44:17 number 36
44:19 they said, shall we leave our gods for the sake of a crazy poet
44:23 in fact, he has brought the truth and has confirmed the messengers
44:28 most assuredly you will suffer the most painful retribution
44:32 you only pay for what you did
44:34 only God's servants who are absolutely devoted to Him alone will be saved
44:38 they have deserved provisions that are reserved specifically for them
44:43 all kinds of fruits
44:45 they will be honored therein in the gardens of bliss
44:48 on furnishings close to one another
44:50 enjoying cups of pure drinks clear and delicious for the drinkers
44:55 never polluted never exhausted
44:58 with them will be beautiful or handsome companions
45:02 protected like fragile eggs
45:04 Shakira: not so handsome
45:07 the people of Heaven visit the people of Hell
45:09 they will confer with one another one one will say, I used to have a friend
45:14 he used to mock do you believe all this?
45:16 after we die and turn into dust and bones we get resurrected?
45:21 it will be proclaimed just take a look
45:23 when he looks he will see his friend in the Hell
45:26 he will go to him and say
45:28 now, number 57
45:30 wow
45:32 verse 57
45:34 Sura 57 is where
45:36 we see the disbelievers begging for some energy
45:39 some light from the believers in Hell
45:41 Shakira: yes
45:42 Rashad: you know those light bugs, Ismail?
45:46 when the believers go to visit their friends
45:48 because the main feature of Hell is darkness
45:51 Ismail Barakat: yes
45:52 Rashad: they will be like fireflies or the light bugs
45:57 and the 57, the disbelievers are begging let us have some of your light
46:01 they'll be starving for energy
46:05 and we see it again, in 57
46:07 56
46:09 he will go to him and say by God, you almost ruined me
46:12 if it were not for my Lord's grace I would have been with you now
46:18 58
46:18 do we...
46:21 do you still believe that we die only the first death
46:26 then we never are requited?
46:32 60
46:33 such is the greatest triumph
46:35 this is what every worker should work for
46:38 is this a better destiny or the tree of bitterness?
46:42 we have rendered it a test for the transgressors
46:46 it is a tree that grows in the heart of Hell
46:49 its flowers are like the devils' heads
46:51 they will eat from it until their bellies are full
46:54 they'll top it with a hellish drink
46:56 a couple of Bloody Marys (laughing)
47:03 then they return to Hell
47:06 they followed their parents blindly
47:08 so I'm gonna stop right here if there are no questions...
47:20 Mahmoud: page 214
47:30 Rashad: أعوذ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ
47:31 بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
47:36 lady: Salam Alaykum
47:37 Everyone: Alaykum Salam
47:40 some of them look at you but can you guide the blind
47:43 even though they do not see
47:45 God never wrongs the people it is the people who wrong their own souls
47:51 on the day when He summons all of them
47:53 they will feel as if they lasted in this world only one hour
47:57 during which they met
48:00 losers indeed are those who disbelieved in meeting God
48:04 and they are not guided
48:07 whether we show you some of the retribution
48:09 we promised them or terminate your life before that
48:13 to us is their ultimate return
48:16 God is witnessing everything they do
48:21 46
48:22 is a...
48:23 is a repeated verse in the Quran
48:26 and it really means that the people who advocate God alone
48:33 will be ridiculed always by somebody
48:37 to the last day of their lives
48:39 this is what it means
48:42 so whether we show you some of the retribution we promise them
48:46 or terminate your life before that to us is their ultimate return
48:50 God is witnessing everything they do
48:53 to each community a messenger
48:55 47
48:56 once their messenger comes they are judged equitably
49:00 without the least injustice
49:04 I may... I may have to...
49:09 go back and re-translate this make it clearer
49:12 community,
49:14 do you ever think community like eastern hills subdivision?
49:18 or something like that
49:22 I think community in Quran means like the Christians
49:24 Jesus
49:26 the Jews
49:27 Moses
49:27 you know the Muslims
49:28 Muhammad
49:32 this is what it really means
49:36 so it is not a community or a generation
49:41 it's a congregation
49:43 it could be the...
49:44 congregation?
49:45 to each congregation a messenger?
49:48 people have the Baptists, the Presbyterians,
49:51 lady: right (laughing)
49:52 Rashad: they are different congregations
49:54 lady: Rashad, (unintelligible)
49:57 Rashad: hmm?
49:58 yeah something like that
50:03 Behrouz: Ummat
50:05 Rashad: yeah what is Ummat in Farsi?
50:07 what's the impression you got?
50:11 Behrouz: a group of people
50:14 this is Arabic, we just use it
50:16 Rashad: but you don't have the word, Ummat
50:19 so, when you hear it in Farsi how big a group is it?
50:25 how do you apply it in Farsi?
50:27 Behrouz: it's just a big group
50:32 Rashad: Oh okay, in the Quran this is what it means
50:34 so we have to express that
50:36 when it goes to...
50:38 Behrouz: this word in Farsi is not used except in the translation of Quran
50:44 Rashad: Oh okay, not in the daily language
50:46 Behrouz: no
50:48 Rashad: like the the Ummat must listen to this
50:51 Behrouz: you know like... Khomeini doesn’t use that
50:55 Rashad: yeah
50:55 Behrouz: because of the word in Quran
50:57 Rashad: yes the Ummat is in trouble
50:59 Behrouz: yes
51:00 Rashad: which means the whole Muslim Ummat
51:04 means all the Muslims in the world
51:07 48
51:08 they challenge, when will this asteroid come to hit us,
51:11 if you are telling the truth
51:14 the messenger possess is no power
51:15 say, I possess no power to even harm myself, or benefit myself
51:19 it is God who'll decide that
51:20 only what GOD wills takes place
51:24 each community has a predetermined lifespan
51:27 once their interim comes to an end
51:30 they cannot delay it by one hour, nor advance it
51:36 say
51:37 now here
51:41 each community has a predetermined lifespan
51:43 community here is like the Roman Empire, for example
51:47 there is a time for it to end
51:48 the Byzantine Empire
51:51 the American Empire
51:53 lady: unintelligible
51:55 Rashad: Hmm hmm
51:57 it's like a whole nation
51:59 a country
52:06 say, whether His retribution comes to you by night or by day
52:10 why are the guilty in such a hurry?
52:13 if it doesn't happen will you believe then?
52:17 why should you believe then?
52:18 when you already had challenged it to come?
52:21 they may be like Pharaoh when they see the asteroid come
52:25 Mahmoud: ...the asteroid
52:27 ...today in the paper
52:29 Rashad: Oh really?
52:30 Oh, wow!
52:32 Mahmoud: ...last time
52:33 Rashad: hmm?
52:34 Mahmoud: when it hit the Earth how did...
52:37 Rashad: you’re kidding?
52:39 and you are sitting in the corner, quite
52:41 Mahmoud: I haven’t seen the...
52:43 lady: that's what it is
52:43 Mahmoud: it is?
52:44 Rashad: well, how do you know?
52:45 Behrouz: how did you know?
52:46 Oh... at the end...?
52:48 Rashad: well, he guessed it
52:51 lady: (unintelligible)
52:59 Mahmoud: one week
53:04 Rashad: he's just sitting there
53:05 Mahmoud: here it is
53:07 one hour of broiling
53:10 Rashad: wow!
53:15 one hour of broiling
53:17 H. J. Melosh
53:20 Mahmoud: even Arizona...
53:20 Rashad: believes a meteor may have hit the planet
53:24 sparking...
53:24 Mahmoud: sparking a firestorm
53:25 Rashad: yes, a firestorm that destroyed most life on Earth
53:30 this is the guy who published an article he even has pictures and illustrations
53:34 Mahmoud: look what it hit, the Arabs look at the map
53:36 Rashad: no, that's Europe
53:37 Mahmoud: Ok, it's Europe
53:41 guy: thank you
53:43 Rashad: comet or asteroid slams into Earth
53:46 Oh, I wish I could put this in the...
53:48 Behrouz: sure slams Islam
53:51 Rashad: yes
53:53 vaporized rock and debris caused by the impact shoot into space
54:01 vaporized smoke, vaporized rock
54:06 as the debris re-enters the atmosphere
54:10 each of the trillions of grains of sand will generate
54:15 1,800 to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit
54:20 incoming debris will surface
54:25 uplift incoming debris
54:29 thermal radiation clouds, source, H. J. Melosh
54:33 who is he?
54:35 imagine the entire sky erupt... erupting with fire
54:41 smoke from the sky
54:42 فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
54:46 Mahmoud: it's only 4 miles wide
54:48 Rashad: now feel the heat from such a horror
54:52 ten times hotter than high noon on a July day in the Arizona desert
54:59 hot enough to ignite much of the world's forests
55:03 like so much timber
55:06 hot enough to broil steaks dinosaur steaks
55:11 so, this is U.A. planetary scientist, H. J. Melosh
55:15 and his colleagues say in an article published this week in Nature
55:19 okay, this is the one I was talking about last week in Nature
55:24 hmm-hm
55:26 Mahmoud: I'll get the Nature magazine
55:28 Rashad: yes, timing and the picture...
55:39 yeah, I have to rewrite that article now
55:41 thanks, Mahmoud for informing us
55:44 thanks for your job great job,
55:46 stand there, inform customers, what to do
55:49 Oh, the paper is here
55:50 let me glance through see what happened to Somalia
55:53 Siad Barre still alive?
55:57 Mahmoud: still ticking
56:00 Rashad: أعوذ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ
56:02 بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
56:05 51
56:05 if it does happen will you believe then?
56:09 why should you believe then?
56:11 when you already had challenged it to come?
56:15 it will be said to the transgressors, taste the eternal retribution
56:19 are you not requited precisely for what you earned?
56:23 they challenge you to prophesy is this really what will happen?
56:27 say, yes indeed, by my Lord, this is the truth
56:30 and you can never escape
56:31 I think these verses are applicable to both of..., for the perspective
56:35 because this is a crucial perspective
56:40 what price faith
56:42 54
56:43 if any wicked soul possessed everything on earth,
56:46 it would readily offer it as ransom
56:49 they will be ridden with remorse when they see the retribution
56:54 they will be judged equitably, without the least injustice
56:58 the thing about these asteroids
57:05 is that they can come in any sizes, you know
57:07 I mean, this is what he says killed the dinosaurs
57:14 so it doesn't have to be this size it can come in any size that God chooses
57:19 everything will be measured
57:21 and the description of Sura 44 is that obviously, it will not end life on earth
57:25 Mahmoud: and also it hit different places on earth
57:28 the one that he says killed the dinosaurs hit so many areas
57:33 Rashad: hmm
57:33 Mahmoud: and the whole earth became ignited
57:35 Rashad: yeah
57:36 Mahmoud: it hits only one area...
57:38 Rashad: this will be just in Arabia
57:48 they didn't say what is it you are holding in your hand
57:51 Mahmoud: (Unintelligible)
57:53 lady: (Unintelligible)
57:55 Rashad: I remember to...
58:00 Emily: I would take it off too
58:03 Rashad: no, no, it's an odd-shaped rock
58:06 Emily: yeah (Unintelligible)
58:08 Rashad: yeah
58:09 Emily: 95% iron and 5% metal
58:13 Rashad: I mean, we want just one as big as this mosque
58:15 hits on Arabia, that will do it
58:19 Mahmoud: (unintelligible)
58:22 Behrouz: this is what we don't know that
58:26 I'm sure it depends to the velocity of the object and the size
58:31 that how much area is gonna...
58:34 Mahmoud: 40,000 miles an hour
58:37 Behrouz: 40,000?
58:40 Rashad: it should do the same velocity will be the same
58:46 Behrouz: and it's coming from the... I mean, 2 planets hit each other
58:52 it doesn’t matter...
58:54 Rashad: no, no, they don't have to
58:56 Behrouz: they don't have to? so, what is it? on that movie...
58:59 Rashad: when they hit each other, it will be a number of them, this is...
59:03 because they break into pieces and all the pieces will fall
59:06 Behrouz: so, this is where they're coming from
59:09 because 2 planets hit each other...
59:10 Rashad: no
59:11 Behrouz: what else is it?
59:12 Rashad: there are pieces of meteorites floating in the space, billions of them
59:17 the one of them will come and...
59:19 there's one now that intersects the orbit of the Earth
59:23 you know what this means? did you hear the test of it?
59:25 the Earth's orbit around the Sun is like this
59:27 so, the Earth is here
59:29 the asteroid does and goes in the... goes in the orbit like that
59:34 and then comes back and hits the orbit like that, it keeps doing this
59:37 so one of those times the Earth would be in that spot
59:41 doesn’t have to be...
59:43 lady: (unintelligible)
59:47 Rashad: the five daily prayers are so important that...
59:52 Shakira: are they the most important of all the prayers?
59:54 Rashad: definitely
59:55 Shakira: so if...
59:56 Rashad: this is a... this is a daily
59:58 Shakira: if one individual believed in God and just did Salat 5 times a day
60:03 Rashad: yes
60:03 Shakira: that person will reach a very high rank
60:06 and another person who does all the other four duties
60:09 but is not praying regularly,
60:12 is that...
60:12 Rashad: you can't really divide it like this
60:15 a righteous person will do all of it
60:17 Shakira: but I have a feeling he has a computer
60:19 and he puts everything in it and counts out in the end
60:22 Rashad: yes, yes, that too every time he says "Subhan Allah"
60:24 your computer clicks and that's credit for that
60:28 Shakira: but you had said...
60:28 Rashad: every time you think about God
60:30 and this is exactly what 115 means
60:32 that whatever righteous work they do, does not...
60:42 Dr. Sabahi: ...who believe do not befriend outsiders
60:45 never cease to wish you harm and wish to see you suffer
60:49 hatred shows through their mouths
60:52 and what their chest hide is even worse
60:55 we have clarified the revelations for you that you may understand
61:00 119
61:02 here you are loving them while they do not love you
61:05 and you believe in all the scripture
61:08 when they meet with you
61:10 when they meet you they say we believe
61:13 then as soon as they bite their fingers out of rage towards you
61:18 say, die in your rage, God is fully aware of the innermost thoughts
61:25 120
61:26 when something good touches you, they hurt
61:29 and when something bad happens to you, they rejoice
61:33 if you steadfastly persevere and maintain righteousness
61:36 their schemes will never hurt you
61:38 God controls everything they do
61:41 I stop here
61:42 because I think these three are related to each other
61:48 under the title: do not befriend hypocrites
61:53 this is another...
61:56 lesson which we can relate it to
62:01 that best community ever raised among the people
62:05 that God is telling us that
62:09 be aware of the outsiders who never cease to wish you harm
62:15 and wish to see you suffer
62:18 the only person who...
62:20 who or people who can be like that
62:23 to suffer
62:23 to wish harm
62:26 and want to see other people suffer
62:30 they should be devilish
62:32 they should be...
62:34 there is no...
62:36 no humanity involved
62:38 because
62:40 that is the time
62:41 that you have completely given up your soul to the Satan
62:48 because these are the things which are satanic
62:51 wishing other people harm and suffering
62:55 a righteous person a person who believes in God
62:59 and he is living a righteous love...
63:01 right...
63:01 life
63:03 he or she never wants suffering or harm for anybody else
63:10 God is saying that hatred shows through their mouths
63:13 and what their chest hide is even worse
63:15 that's very interesting
63:18 people who are like this
63:20 people who enjoy seeing other people suffer
63:24 they harmed themselves they hurt themselves
63:28 they suffer more than the others because
63:31 you live your life you believe in God
63:34 you're living in life that you think you believe is the righteous life
63:38 but those people who have nothing else they just watch you
63:43 and suffer, because they suffer with the way that you walk
63:48 the way you talk
63:50 the way you eat
63:52 they... they just
63:53 whatever they do you do is harm...
63:55 you know, they are the ones who are looking for something
63:59 they're just... all the time are...
64:03 because they are full of so much hatred
64:06 which God says hatred shows through their mouths
64:08 and what their chest is hiding is worse
64:12 I have seen it through my own life that no matter what you do
64:18 sometimes you're even unaware of the fact that
64:22 some people are watching you and are suffering because of what you do
64:26 you are...
64:27 you just do it naturally because of your beliefs
64:30 but others who are watching you they get hurt
64:33 they just...
64:35 either it's unacceptable to them or for no reason
64:39 for example, if I go and tell a friend that I go to Friday prayers
64:46 first of all they look at me say, hey what is wrong with you
64:49 you know what are you up to you know, why you go - because
64:52 it is...
64:53 it is the tradition in the Muslim world that
64:58 either you're stupid and follow God's revelation specially among the educated
65:03 or you're after something
65:06 other than that, there is no reason for you to go to a Friday prayer
65:10 or go and spend your time reading the Quran
65:12 this is...
65:13 this is the fact, so they as soon as they hear that,
65:17 their receivers in their radars, start you know, collecting all the signals
65:22 and you wouldn't believe how many channels they have to receive
65:26 you... you only have...
65:27 you're emitting on one channel but they have million channels receiving
65:31 so they are the ones who worry about it
65:34 you don't worry, you just living... what you're doing, what you believe is right
65:39 and hopefully the...
65:41 and you know, but they are the ones who are worrying
65:45 you know, what is going on? because they...
65:48 although they say that they don't want to follow you
65:53 they don't want to do the same thing that you do
65:56 but somehow for some reason
65:59 they are so much
66:00 so much interested
66:01 they want to see they wanna, you know, why?
66:04 and when you tell them then it's like talking to a stone wall
66:10 it's for you, that you may understand
66:15 here you are loving them while they do not love you
66:18 and you believe in all the scripture
66:20 this is why you love everyone else
66:22 as God said in the verses that I referred to
66:27 a righteous person a believer
66:31 doesn't see any distinction among anybody else
66:34 and sees everyone the same
66:37 that is what we...
66:39 we have a lot of discussion with my own kids
66:41 before sleeping both of them
66:43 more or less
66:44 about racial issues you know how
66:48 how we can blame other people for being racist
66:51 how we can blame other people looking at us differently
66:54 rather than looking, you know similar to everybody else
67:00 but the fact is, I have to go first back to my own system
67:04 and see whether I see anybody else differently
67:08 whether I see a white person from a black person
67:13 an oriental from an Iranian and so on and so forth
67:17 if I can do if I can clean myself
67:20 if I can purify my own soul to see everyone else the same
67:24 then I won't have any problem with other people
67:27 because if they look at me and they think that I am a different race
67:32 or they are racist
67:33 I look at them and I see that they are suffering
67:36 as God is saying exactly they are the ones who are suffering
67:41 because they think that they want you to suffer they'll enjoy,
67:44 but if you purify your own self
67:49 and get to the point that you are a righteous person
67:54 you don't see any difference between any other people
67:57 and then you don't care about what other people see
68:00 and that is what is expected from you
68:06 when they meet you they say we believe
68:10 I think most of us have that experience
68:13 then as soon as they leave they bite their fingers out of rage towards you
68:17 say, die in your rage God is fully aware of innermost thoughts
68:24 so this is...
68:27 I'm not gonna talk more about it it's very clear
68:32 and 120
68:33 when something good touches you they hurt
68:36 and when something bad happens to you they rejoice
68:39 if you steadfastly persevere and maintain righteousness
68:42 their schemes will never hurt you
68:44 God controls everything they do
68:46 God is giving assurance to us that if we put all of our faith in Him
68:53 and follow what He tells us to follow
68:57 then we have nothing to worry
69:00 we have...
69:00 that's the best expression: nothing to fear nothing to grieve
69:07 and the people who are hurt who grieve, who are jealous
69:15 they are suffering
69:16 let be it, I have nothing to do with it that's the life that they chose
69:21 that's the way that they are going and this is the way that I am going
69:24 so God is assuring us that He is aware
69:29 and He is controlling everything they do
69:34 and so I don't have to worry about it and think too much about it
69:39 it's a very very good lesson that I don't mean
69:46 don't get me wrong that you don't have to do
69:49 you don't have to do your responsibilities because God is exactly telling us
69:54 that if you are part of that community you always have to be aware
69:58 you have to be advocating righteousness and forbidding evil
70:02 which is part of the community work
70:04 or part of your social responsibilities
70:07 but if you put too much emphasis on what other people say about you
70:11 or think about you, then that's the time that you are in trouble
70:15 I stop here
70:17 before starting 121 for questions and discussions again
70:25 Douglas: verse 119, where God says
70:29 that as soon as they leave they bite their fingers out of rage
70:33 in Sura 25, verse 27 on page 362,
70:40 God says the day will come when the transgressor will bite his hand
70:45 in anguish
70:46 what I think is interesting here very beautiful and interesting is that
70:50 God says that He knows what is in the chest
70:53 and He says in Sura 3 verse 119
70:57 He is fully aware of the innermost thoughts
71:00 this tendency to bite one's hands in an abnormal way, and bite the fingers
71:07 is very common in a person's anger and rage, and suffering
71:12 they may appear to be otherwise
71:14 but this is something that can actually recognize if possible, one kind of indication
71:19 that a person has this anxiety and anguish,
71:22 and God knows it
71:23 and I see these two verses where we're talking about anger, rage
71:27 and God knows what is in the heart,
71:29 and He knows what human beings do
71:32 certain habits they develop as a function of whether or not they're in a state of peace
71:38 or they are in a state of anguish or rage
71:42 so in that sense God is, He is aware
71:45 He knows the relationship between behavior certain habits,
71:50 the things we do with what's happening inside us
71:53 and we see the major thing here of the anguish, the rage and the suffering
72:05 Rashad: I wanna talk about 118, well, I mean, actually there are 3 of them
72:10 we are people who decided that God knows best
72:13 better than anyone... anyone else what is good for us, what is bad for us
72:18 and we are His servants and creatures and we decided we're gonna obey
72:22 what He tells us
72:24 so and God has a very good reason for any of these commandments
72:28 now here, He's telling us O you who believe do not befriend outsiders
72:33 etc. etc.
72:34 says, Do not befriend them, why, why is God telling us this?
72:40 from the experience we've seen in the last 12 years in this Masjid
72:45 it's because these people the outsiders
72:49 these people may take you away
72:52 and we know what this means
72:56 actually they will do everything possible to stop you from
73:01 from from being here
73:03 from continuing to worship God and follow His commandments
73:07 and this is the biggest disaster that can ever happen to anybody
73:11 and we've seen it happen
73:14 we've seen the consequences for those people
73:17 and then God is giving criteria and descriptions of these people
73:22 so, a good subtitle here will be: run for your life
73:28 when you meet these people and sense that they are not totally
73:33 in agreement with following God's commandments
73:37 for example, they mock the Friday prayers
73:40 I’m telling you I've seen people who were dismissed from God's grace
73:43 because of not doing the Friday prayer
73:47 they didn't have excuses
73:50 you have a very good excuse, a very good excuse
73:53 but God knows it's between you and God,
73:55 that you cannot possibly make the Friday prayer
73:57 that's fine, but these are people who in their mind it is not important
74:01 to do the Friday prayer
74:03 when God says when the Friday prayer comes
74:05 go to the Friday prayer and drop all business, God is saying this
74:09 so, I mean, we're either believers who follow God and obey him, or will not
74:13 there is no in between
74:15 God is saying, O you who believe, do not befriend outsiders who, etc, etc,
74:19 all the descriptions
74:21 what is God's interest in this?
74:23 our welfare
74:25 because if we mix with them they will influence us
74:31 and there is that chance or that possibility
74:33 that may take us away from the path of God
74:36 and this is the biggest disaster
74:38 especially when you come this close
74:40 when you're sitting here at noon witnessing miracles, right?
74:45 witnessing miracles greater than Moses' miracles
74:48 when he threw down the staff
74:51 so, after seeing all this, when you see God's commandment,
74:58 God says, do not befriend them
75:01 maybe you can talk to them
75:02 but befriend is a very dangerous disobedience of God
75:07 Edip: according to Quran, believers have a...
75:11 the most powerful truth
75:13 and they do not afraid of discussing with people on the subject
75:17 but those people in here, they don't have any base or any discussion
75:23 those people are..., they are treating they are not sincere people
75:27 they are playing in both sides
75:30 for this reason those people, to befriend these people will not give you anything
75:35 you will not gain anything from them they will not gain anything from you
75:38 because really they are not sincere
75:41 Rashad: even disastrous
75:41 Edip: yes, only they will give you bad things
75:46 Rashad: of course, you can try to help them, guide them
75:50 but once you have done this, you delivered the message
75:53 you tried to help them, and then you find that they are not responding
75:57 and they continue their defiance of God and mocking you and so on
76:01 run for your life
76:05 it's a very important commandment you will not take God's orders lightly
76:09 O you who believe, do not befriend outsiders
76:11 who never cease to wish you harm, etc. etc.
76:15 now, we take this seriously
76:24 back to Dr. Subahi and 121
76:27 Dr. Sabahi: Abdullah, I think
76:28 Abdullah: I have a comment
76:32 believers are recognized
76:35 or righteous people are recognized by the people who don't believe in the Hereafter
76:42 and the reason they want
76:46 although they say they don't believe in what you're doing,
76:51 deep inside they think you might be right
76:55 and they are scared
76:58 they want you...
77:00 they want you to be in the same pot with them
77:04 and they...
77:05 and if...
77:07 and the only way they can see is that you're wrong,
77:12 if something bad happen to you
77:15 and they look forward that something will happen
77:17 bad happen to you but it never happens or
77:20 if it happens they rejoice if it doesn't happen,
77:23 they're...
77:24 they are...
77:25 they are, you know outraged inside
77:29 their inside
77:31 it's just because deep in their... in their heart
77:40 they think you might be right and they'll be in real trouble
77:44 and they wanna...
77:45 they wanna pull you in the same pot
77:50 same problem
77:52 Rashad: Abdullah is quoting 4:89 you know
77:54 let's look at it, 4:89
77:56 it's exactly what God is telling us
78:01 very good psychological analysis
78:06 page 92 says
78:07 they wish that you disbelieve as they have disbelieved
78:10 then you become equal
78:13 they'll be in the same boat with them
78:20 it's just they feel that,
78:23 I don't know, I have a feeling that they sense your soul
78:25 the size of your soul it kind of bothers them
78:28 Mohtasham: yes
78:30 they have a shrunken soul, you go there and you take over
78:35 so, they want you to be in the same boat as they are
78:42 okay, 121
78:43 the battle of Badr
78:45 Dr. Sabahi: 121
78:47 the battle of Badr
78:49 recall that you, Muhammad, set out to assign to your people
78:52 their positions for battle
78:54 and God is Hearer, Omniscient
78:59 122
79:02 two groups of you almost failed and God was their Lord
79:06 in God the believers shall trust
79:09 thus, God gave you victory at Badr, even though you were weak
79:13 you shall observe God to show your appreciation
79:17 you told the believers
79:19 is it not enough that your Lord supports you with 3,000 angels descending
79:24 yes, if you steadfastly persevere and maintain righteousness
79:28 then they will...
79:30 then they attack you suddenly your Lord will supply you with 5,000 angels
79:35 well trained
79:37 126
79:38 God gives you His..., this good news, to assure your hearts
79:43 victory comes only from God the Almighty, Most Wise
79:47 127
79:49 He thus annihilates some disbelievers or neutralizes them
79:54 so they end up in failure
79:56 128
79:57 it is not up to you, He may redeem them or punish them for their sins
80:02 129
80:04 to God belongs everything in the heavens and everything on the earth
80:07 He forgives whomever He wills and punishes whomever He wills
80:13 God is Forgiver, Merciful
80:15 I stop here
80:19 121 to 129 is as the subtitle says is about the battle of Badr
80:27 which
80:30 I think or it is the first battle that Muhammad and his followers had to fight
80:36 against disbelievers
80:42 God is reminding Muhammad that when you were assigning people
80:49 in the position for battle
80:51 they knew that they are gonna attack them in their town
80:54 that community that they had and there were this bunch of...
80:58 this group of...
80:59 of believers with the prophet
81:01 and they were ready to defend
81:04 and of course
81:07 it seems that not all of those people were at the same level of belief
81:13 they were some who were better believers they were stronger believers
81:17 and maybe there were people who had some...
81:23 some doubts in how far or how much God can help them
81:27 so God is reminding Muhammad that when you were assigning your people
81:34 for their positions to... for the battle
81:38 two groups of you almost failed
81:42 and God was their Lord
81:45 although two groups of you failed
81:48 I, since I don't know the exact history of the battle of Badr
81:54 I don't know this failure is in the real battle
81:57 that they went out and fought and failed
82:00 or they failed the test, because this was a test of how much you believe
82:07 imagine that something happens outside you know, now we have to go
82:12 and put our lives, say okay, this is for God
82:15 and God wants us to go and fight these people who are attacking this mosque
82:20 and then that's the real test
82:22 this is one of the most precious things that you like, is your life
82:26 you have to go and risk your life in the cause of God
82:30 you know, it is for God
82:32 so it seems that if people have different levels of belief
82:37 there are some people may doubt it, say, is this real battle?
82:42 is this really Muhammad why that this is for God?
82:45 and then you question
82:47 and God is saying the two groups of you almost failed in that
82:52 because you... those people didn't trust
82:55 or didn't believe that God can help them with His angels
82:59 and then God is saying in 123
83:02 that God gave you victory at Badr even though you were weak,
83:06 you know,
83:07 outnumbered, weaker
83:09 maybe the other side had better arsenal
83:12 and God is reminding them that you shall observe God
83:18 to show your appreciation
83:19 we helped you we made you victorious
83:22 over the disbelievers
83:24 and you should remember, you have to always remember God
83:28 you told the believers, is it not enough that your Lord supports you
83:32 with 3,000 angels?
83:35 yes, if you steadfastly persevere and maintain righteousness
83:38 then they attack you suddenly
83:40 your Lord will supply you with 5,000 angels well trained
83:44 this clearly shows that how a believer
83:48 as Rashad just very، I think beautifully put it
83:53 if you are believer you have so much strength
83:56 you have something about you
83:59 that even at the everyday life
84:03 causes that...
84:05 that strength
84:06 it shows in your system
84:08 you know, you walk, you talk with more strength
84:11 with self-confidence
84:12 because as what mentioned in today's Khutba
84:18 since you believe in God
84:20 you believe in someone who is the superior force
84:24 who is the Creator of the whole universe
84:27 so you see everybody else the same
84:29 you don't worry about your boss
84:32 you don't worry about anything
84:35 your soul has grown so big
84:37 hopefully
84:39 that if you go in the room with some disbelievers
84:42 then there is not enough... enough room
84:44 they just get pushed they get squished
84:47 so..., and that's the time that God comes to your help
84:51 you go in a community and you see that
84:54 I... this reminds me of a story
84:58 that I was told, I don't know whether I told you this or not
85:02 Tariq is here, I was talking to his parents because they are Muslims
85:06 and they were saying that the first time they were exposed to Islam
85:11 through Elijah Muhammad in Brooklyn, New York
85:17 before that they were just normal people
85:19 they were always thought that
85:23 you know, they are inferior to other people and so on and so forth
85:28 but when they went through and they were introduced
85:31 into what is... what was told to them
85:33 that this is Islam
85:35 whatever it was that there's a God, Allah
85:38 you have to follow Him, you believe in Him, and if you follow that
85:41 you do your prayers then you are strong
85:44 and they were saying that after they...
85:46 even they got that close to the...
85:50 to the real thing which is believing in God
85:53 we stand, you know, as we know the history of the...
85:57 Black Muslim movement in this country
86:01 which I'm sure Douglass is... is a better position to tell us about it
86:09 but the thing that was interesting to me was
86:12 the strength that they said they felt with this
86:15 they said that all of a sudden they felt that God is giving them so much strength
86:19 that they would go to places
86:21 that they never imagined that they could go
86:23 they would go to places which were drug dealers with shotguns, you know
86:28 and they were saying that they would go to these places,
86:31 and all of these nastiest people in the world that live in that area
86:35 were afraid of them
86:36 even they had shotguns even they had knives, even whatever
86:40 and
86:42 that shows
86:44 this is an example but God is telling us exactly that
86:49 if you believe in Him He's going to support you
86:52 the angels
86:53 the numbers that are given here which is the footnote
86:56 you can see that, the numbers that occur in the Quran
87:00 are multiple of 19
87:03 God is giving these numbers and telling us that
87:07 in everyday life
87:08 and also in the real battles that had happened in the past
87:13 may happen in other forms
87:15 it doesn't have to be battles that you fight with bombs and...
87:20 guns and so on
87:21 every day battle with the believers which nowadays is mostly through...
87:28 through communications
87:30 then God is gonna help you to be winners
87:35 126
87:36 God gives you this good news, to reassure your hearts
87:40 victory comes only from God the Almighty, Most Wise
87:42 this is the reassurance that God is giving us
87:45 the good news
87:47 He thus annihilates some disbelievers or neutralizes them
87:50 so they end up in failure
87:54 it is not up to you
87:56 126
87:57 He may redeem them or punish them for their sins
88:01 after you have done your work you have done your job
88:04 it is not up to you
88:06 I know why always when I teach, one of these verses come up
88:10 that, is not up to you
88:12 it's...
88:13 He may redeem them or punish them for their sins
88:15 so you have to do your homework you have to do your job
88:19 the rest of it is up to God to decide what He wants to do with the disbeliever
88:25 to God belongs everything in the heavens and everything on the earth
88:29 He forgives whomever He wills and punishes whomever He wills
88:32 God is Forgiver, Merciful
88:35 I stop for discussion and questions here
88:41 Rashad: well, I have lots to say here
88:43 are there any questions before I say that?
88:45 first of all, I urge you or encourage you to go to any public library
88:51 and look up the Encyclopedia Britannica under Badr, B A D R
88:57 and, in the Encyclopedia Britannica they give you
89:01 the numbers of equipment on both sides, the disbelievers and the believers
89:06 and you can see according to those numbers from history
89:10 that the disbelievers vastly outnumbered the believers
89:14 for at least 10 times as much in every category
89:16 I mean, 70 camels against seven...
89:19 the things like... actually more than that
89:21 look it up in the Encyclopedia Britannica
89:24 and then you look at the outcome of this battle and they say that
89:28 militarily doesn't make sense
89:31 the outcome doesn't make sense
89:33 of course, they couldn't count the invisible forces
89:37 of the three thousand...
89:39 you don't see the 3000 angels on the side of the believers
89:43 and, so this will be quite a point much higher than the BigInsights that's
89:48 lady: ...how did they describe each side?
89:50 did they describe the believers and disbelievers?
89:52 Rashad: yes, the Muhammad side and the pagan side
89:56 it's quite fair, what I read... many years ago when I read it
90:01 Ismail Barakat: they may have...
90:04 Rashad: so, just go and look for it in any public library
90:07 in Encyclopedia Britannica, under Badr and you'll see this
90:11 lady: It's in the history of Islam also, the life of the Prophet Muhammad
90:16 Rashad: see, Britannica is a neutral, it pretends to be neutral
90:21 but the history of Islam they will say, they're biased
90:25 but Britannica is in a public library everybody reads it
90:30 it's written by the most outstanding authorities on the subject anyway
90:35 fully presented
90:37 the other thing I want to say you noticed
90:39 this is specifically the time of the prophet Muhammad that was...
90:44 I maintained that the time of Jihad was then
90:48 but now the battle is completely mental
90:51 however I wanna share with you a few instances where
90:56 there may be the simulation of Jihad or something
91:00 for example, my first visit to Canada
91:03 I don't know if you still have the scar there
91:06 [laughter]
91:08 but there were so many threats against my life before I went
91:12 and Satan participated heavily in that to the point that I left to Canada
91:17 knowing that I will die there
91:19 this is the impression that I...
91:22 there were very strange things happening
91:25 for example, the day before I left
91:27 I'm sitting peacefully watching the TV at home
91:29 and all of a sudden my wife says
91:31 do you have insurance on your life?
91:33 [laughter]
