Hi, I'm Paula, and in today's video, I'm going to show you how to make a fanzine, step by step.
A fanzine is an independent publication created and self-published by enthusiasts of
a specific topic such as music, film, literature, or art. The term "fanzine" comes from the contraction
of the English words "fan" and "magazine."
This name reflects the amateur and passionate nature of its creators, who seek
to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with a like-minded community. Creating a fanzine is an
artisanal process that allows for wide creative freedom. Generally,
accessible materials such as paper, scissors, glue, photographs, magazine clippings, and any other
element that contributes to the desired aesthetic are used. The design can be done by hand or with
digital tools, and reproduction is usually done through photocopies or homemade prints. In this video,
I'm going to guide you step by step through the creation of your own fanzine. Specifically, we're going to create this
design, but if you're interested in creating other models, leave your request in the comments so
I can make a new video with other options. Let's get started! To start this explanation, let's talk about
the dimensions of the sheets. I'm going to show you how to fold an A3-sized sheet of paper.
It's important to know that you can use any size sheet you want. The final measurement will
be half the height and a quarter the width. So, for example, if we use A3-sized paper,
the final measurement will be this. And if we use A4-sized paper, the final measurement will be this.
We can also use colored paper or cardstock as a base. We start by folding it in half.
We open the paper and fold it in half the other way
and now we fold it in half on this side and on this side
The sheet should look like this. To make the cut
, we'll use scissors. We'll fold it in half and make a cut from here to here.
The sheet has to be like this with this cut and to make the fold we are going to make this
movement, we lift it like this, we push towards the center and we fold it like this
shape. Once we have the folded finished, it's very important to first mark the order of
the pages. This will allow us to work with the sheet unfolded more comfortably.
So the order will be as follows: the cover, the front cover will be number
one, we continue with numbers
3 and 4, 5, 6, 7, and number 8 will be the
back cover. Another important detail is to understand the direction of the pages that are facing each other.
We start with number one and this entire row here, numbers 3, 4, and 5, will be facing each other. If
we don't respect this when folding, the pages will be turned over.
Look at this example; we have this direction and this other direction
facing each other. As I told you in the presentation of this video, the fanzine is a publication
that allows us to use different tools and materials for
its creation. We can create it entirely by
hand, or, for example, in this case, we can design it with
printed digital files. In this case, I used an
A4 sheet of paper and combined it with stamps and
seals. These zines were created with photocopies, colored pencils, and stamps. This
other zine also uses a combination of techniques and materials, and
below I'll show you how I made it step by step.
We've reached the end of this tutorial, which I hope has been of interest to you. Don't forget
to leave a like and subscribe to the channel. We'll see you soon with a new video.
Bye!
