0:09 throughout our world few places are more
0:12 remote and mysterious than the continent
0:15 of Antarctica spanning over five million
0:18 square miles this mass of land and ice
0:21 is over twice the size of Australia yet
0:24 it holds a grand total of zero permanent
0:26 residents it's brutally frigid
0:28 conditions and strict visitation laws
0:31 have made it impossible to fully explore
0:33 leading many to question what secrets it
0:51 in the mid to late 1950s the United
0:54 States was heavily invested in nuclear
0:56 technology and specifically nuclear
0:59 weapons in the midst of the Cold War it
1:01 was imperative for the country to gain
1:03 superior knowledge on a subject than the
1:05 Russians because of this the United
1:07 States was constantly building and
1:11 experimenting on all things nuclear over
1:12 the course of the Cold War
1:15 over 1,000 nuclear devices were fired as
1:18 part of US government experiments with
1:21 few being as controversial as the
1:23 experiments conducted in operation Argos
1:26 the main goal of Argos was to test the
1:28 effects that nuclear weapons had in
1:31 colder high-altitude regions with these
1:33 experiments an estimated three nuclear
1:35 missiles were fired in the vicinity of
1:38 Antarctica however the results of this
1:40 experiment were never finalized and the
1:42 whereabouts of the location in which the
1:44 missiles hit is still very much a
1:47 mystery following this test the task
1:49 force in charge of the program was
1:51 quickly dissolved and the majority of
1:53 the documents associated with the
1:55 project were destroyed included in these
1:57 documents was also the film Rio that
1:59 would have shown actual footage of the
2:02 tests so this alone is pretty sketchy
2:04 the destruction of evidence the hiding
2:06 of evidence as to what happened there is
2:08 something that definitely raises some
2:10 red flags but it's also something that's
2:12 not too surprising for that time period
2:14 but where this whole situation gets very
2:16 strange is when you take a look at a
2:18 previous mission that took place in
2:21 Antarctica that has confused the public
2:25 to this day in 1946 the United States
2:27 Navy sent troops to Antarctica to
2:30 supposedly set up a military base and to
2:32 train them for cold weather conditions
2:35 as part of operation Highjump now this
2:37 wasn't a small convoy or anything like that
2:37 that
2:41 all in all 4700 troops were sent up to
2:43 the frigid landscape in December of that
2:46 year the operation lasted just barely a
2:48 few months as the weather conditions
2:51 supposedly got too severe which I mean
2:52 I'm not sure what they were expecting
2:56 there for being honest I mean it it's
2:58 Antarctica in total it was reported that
2:59 four men
3:01 lost their lives in the short expedition
3:03 however some believe that the number is
3:05 actually much higher than that and that
3:08 in their time up there the United States
3:11 Navy was attacked it is theorized that
3:12 upon the trip through the harsh
3:15 landscape of Antarctica the brigade was
3:17 attacked by unknown crafts which forced
3:20 them to retreat out of the area the
3:21 attack was highlighted in a now leaked
3:24 Soviet report where KGB agents had
3:26 gained knowledge from u.s. soldiers
3:29 present at the site of the attack the US
3:30 soldiers claimed that while they were
3:32 being attacked by these hostile forces
3:35 they reported the open fire on the
3:37 crafts ultimately shooting one down into
3:39 the water below
3:41 however the advanced technology of these
3:44 crafts proved way too much for the fleet
3:45 to handle and they were forced to
3:47 retreat after losing several aircrafts
3:50 and men in the attack after the fleet
3:52 returned back to the United States one
3:54 of the leaders of the expedition Admiral
3:57 Byrd began discussing with the media
3:59 that the United States should set up
4:01 defense bases in the polar regions and
4:04 that flying crafts from the area posed a
4:05 serious threat to the United States
4:08 after these shocking and controversial
4:10 statements Byrd was thrown into a mental
4:13 institution and never heard from again
4:16 piecing together the alleged attack on
4:18 operation Highjump with the subsequent
4:20 bombing of their region with operation
4:23 Argos the whole situation leaves a dark
4:25 theory some believe that operation
4:27 Highjump was actually an invasion of
4:29 Antarctica in order to fight off some
4:31 mysterious force I mean why else would
4:34 they send that many soldiers there like
4:36 do you really need five thousand men to
4:39 set up a research base and maybe when
4:40 this operation failed and when the
4:42 United States Navy realized that they
4:45 were no match for this advanced weaponry
4:47 perhaps they fired those nuclear weapons
4:49 to take care of the enemy once and for
4:51 all now I feel like this theory is
4:53 definitely out there but the fact that
4:55 it was in an actual Soviet report and
4:57 the fact that Byrd was speaking out
4:58 about this enemy and was quickly
5:01 silenced makes it still intriguing to me
5:04 plus I can't get over why they would
5:05 send that many people up there to set up
5:07 a base and I can't get over why they
5:09 would fire those nuclear weapons in
5:12 Antarctica for research when they did
5:14 even end up posting any actual research
5:17 from their findings and what about the
5:19 tapes okay you know what let me let meet
5:21 you let me chill real quick so obviously
5:22 I have a lot of questions about this
5:24 theory that I wish I could have answered
5:27 and perhaps the biggest one to me is
5:29 what actually was this unknown force
5:32 that may or may not have attacked the
5:34 Navy that day and the theories into this
5:41 [Music]
5:43 many of the most popular conspiracy
5:45 theories surrounding the region of
5:48 Antarctica deal with alien life
5:51 it's vast and unexplored landscape makes
5:53 it one of the only places on earth that
5:56 could really hold alien life that would
5:58 go completely undetected like aliens
5:59 could just be chilling up there right
6:01 now and guess what
6:03 we'd have no idea I mean I'm not saying
6:05 they are but we really can't say that
6:08 they aren't right now throughout the
6:10 years many have pointed to things like
6:12 these pyramid structures throughout the
6:14 region and clean that they are bases of
6:16 aliens they think that aliens actually
6:19 created these things and further
6:20 structures have also been spotted on
6:22 things like Google Earth that seem to
6:25 look like man-made or alien-made
6:27 buildings or layers and due to our
6:30 inability to explore these regions and
6:31 confirm or deny whether these are
6:34 structures or not it causes our
6:36 imagination to kind of run wild with
6:39 what could have made them and what could
6:41 be living in there now me personally I
6:43 tend to view these structures as just
6:45 kind of weird shaped rocks but I will
6:47 give some credit that quite a few of
6:51 them do look pretty convincing now just
6:53 recently a photo from Google Earth went
6:56 viral of what appears to be a spaceship
6:58 crashed in the snow on an island just
7:01 outside of Antarctica with this photo
7:03 you see a definite trail behind a large
7:05 tube-like object making it appear that
7:08 whatever this thing was it had just
7:09 crashed landed now this photo has
7:12 quickly become synonymous with alien
7:14 life in the region though some experts
7:16 are quick to dismiss it as a rock that
7:17 simply slid down a mountain via
7:19 Avalanche it's a really interesting
7:21 photo that has many who believe that
7:24 aliens are truly out there excited and
7:26 there's no shortage of other photos
7:28 like this that supposedly show crashed
7:31 UFOs in a snowy Arctic many believe that
7:33 these crafts are the work of alien
7:36 life-forms thriving in this desolate
7:38 region these people also tend to believe
7:41 that these aliens were also responsible
7:44 for the attack on the US Navy it's a
7:46 frightening concept thinking that
7:48 hostile alien life-forms may be living
7:50 in Antarctica and the idea that they
7:53 have attacked before may also mean that
7:55 they may attack again and with no
7:57 defense bases anywhere in the region
7:59 nothing would be stopping them from
8:01 attacking let's say a research team of
8:03 ours in the area but to me the idea of
8:05 aliens being responsible for these
8:08 mysterious crafts is not even close to
8:22 being the most interesting theory this
8:24 [ __ ] goes crazy let me just start by
8:26 introducing a theory and then I'm gonna
8:28 backtrack and explain how it could be
8:30 possible so stick with me here so the
8:33 theory here is that members of the Nazi
8:35 Party were able to escape to Antarctica
8:38 after World War two it said that the
8:40 Nazis also took with them advanced
8:42 weaponry from the war weaponry like
8:45 flying saucers that were responsible for
8:48 the attack on operation Highjump ok so
8:50 confusing and weird I know but let's
8:53 unpack this for a minute even before the
8:55 start of World War 2 Hitler had a
8:58 fascination with Antarctica there he
9:00 sent multiple fleets to survey the
9:02 landscape and supposedly look for
9:04 margarine fat due to the fact that the
9:07 country supply would soon be cut off
9:09 during the war on these missions it is
9:11 theorized that Hitler saw an opportunity
9:14 as the vast continent provided the
9:16 perfect conditions for a hideout should
9:18 things go wrong now fast-forwarding a
9:21 bit here too the actual war it is no
9:23 secret that Nazis were innovators and
9:25 they were obsessed with creating new and
9:27 crazy technology these technologies
9:29 included things like wonder weapons and
9:31 all sorts of other shocking and
9:33 disturbing things and it is believed
9:35 that at one point the Nazi set their
9:38 sights on creating an advanced aircraft
9:40 that would be ultra powerful and
9:42 especially difficult to bring down these
9:43 crafts would have been something
9:45 completely new to our world
9:47 if they were actually able to create
9:49 them and in this theory believers claim
9:51 that they actually did they believed
9:53 that the Nazis were able to build these
9:56 flying saucers in secret and use their
9:58 overpowered weaponry to defeat their
10:00 enemies and looking at all the other
10:02 crazy stuff that they were able to
10:05 invent I mean it's still improbable but
10:07 it's definitely not impossible that they
10:08 were actually able to accomplish
10:11 something like this okay so if they had
10:13 this advanced weaponry how did they end
10:16 up in Antarctica well perhaps after
10:18 World War two had ended the remaining
10:20 Nazis fled their homeland to avoid
10:22 persecution and landed in Antarctica
10:24 where they likely would have never been
10:26 found and the idea of Nazi soldiers and
10:29 officials escaping Germany after World
10:31 War two is something that is definitely
10:33 not outlandish so many of them have been
10:36 reported dead and yet very few bodies
10:38 were actually ever discovered from the
10:40 high-ranking Nazi officials which that's
10:42 a whole conspiracy theory of its own
10:44 whether these people are still alive or
10:47 not but if they are maybe they fled to
10:49 Antarctica and maybe they took their
10:51 advanced aircrafts with them to a escape
10:54 undetected and to be keep their
10:56 technology a secret to possibly use at a
10:58 later date I mean this kind of makes
11:01 sense because as I mentioned before the
11:03 Nazis had more information on Antarctica
11:05 than probably any other country at the
11:07 time because remember they had sent
11:09 crews there on multiple occasions also
11:11 in 2016
11:13 Russians actually discovered a
11:15 legitimate abandoned Nazi base in
11:18 Antarctica so they had at least one
11:20 legitimate settlement there and it might
11:22 not be too far-fetched to believe that
11:24 maybe they had more that just haven't
11:26 been discovered yet so perhaps when the
11:28 US Navy was visiting the area way back
11:32 in 1946 they stumbled a little too close
11:34 to the Nazis secret base and the Nazis
11:36 used their advanced aircrafts to fire at
11:39 the crews and deter them from coming any
11:41 closer and truly discovering their
11:43 hideout and stretching it even further
11:46 maybe the u.s. retaliated by shooting
11:48 those missile tests in the area in order
11:51 to secretly and quietly kill off the remain
11:51 remain
11:54 Nazi troops it is so crazy to think
11:55 about it is so weird
11:58 it is so probably not true but it's so
12:00 totally could be maybe someday we'll
12:02 find out if there was any truth to these
12:05 wild theories but until then many of us
12:08 will remain fascinated by the mysteries
