0:01 let's start off by talking about your
0:03 home what's your favorite thing about
0:06 your home my favorite thing about my
0:09 home would probably be my dog or my
0:12 sister I'm not sure because my dog could
0:14 be annoying sometimes in the morning he
0:18 likes to wake me up um but my sister is
0:21 almost the same person as me so I like
0:23 her company we like to do a lot of the
0:26 same things and we don't have that big
0:30 of an age Gap so we're similar in age so
0:31 we like to share the same Hobbies the
0:35 same music taste the same games and we
0:37 like a lot of the same things what makes
0:39 your home comfortable I don't want to
0:42 sound like I'm obsessed with my bed but
0:46 my bed I like being in bed it's super
0:51 soft um and also my rocking chair what
0:53 would you like to change about your home
0:56 I would like to have more windows in my
0:59 house because I like the sun and I don't
1:02 like being outside so much because it's
1:05 hot um but I like daylight so if I had
1:07 more windows in my house I feel like
1:09 that would make my house better now
1:11 let's talk about shopping where do you
1:15 prefer to shop I used to love shopping
1:19 at the mall but ever since this day and
1:22 age has been evolving I like shopping
1:24 online more do you prefer shopping alone
1:26 or with others I like doing a lot of
1:28 things with a lot of people and I've
1:30 tried shopping alone alone and I've
1:33 tried shopping with others I think that
1:34 I prefer shopping with others just
1:37 because I can get their opinion what was
1:39 your last important purchase I would
1:43 consider grocery shopping important so
1:45 food is that is that does that count as
1:48 an important purchase now let's talk
1:50 about your free time what do you like to
1:52 do in your free time I'm currently
1:55 obssessed with this new game on my
1:58 Nintendo so I like playing games how
2:00 often do you spend time with friends
2:04 I'm with friends almost every day I
2:06 wouldn't say that I make it a priority
2:09 but every day I spend time with my
2:11 friends be it going to the gym or even
2:14 just running errands together or just
2:16 going for a drive so I'll say every
2:19 other day what new hobbies would you
2:22 like to develop in the future I do want
2:24 to get into Pilates just more into
2:27 Wellness things because I I'm super into
2:31 like active stuff so like going to the
2:33 gym is what I'm doing right now but I
2:35 want to like expand that by going into
2:38 like Pilates or yoga stretching just
2:40 like a lot of like breath work things
2:43 like that now let's talk about food what
2:45 are the most popular foods in your
2:49 country adobo and Panet are my two
2:52 personal favorites and then for dessert
2:55 I like um Halo Hollow do you like trying
2:59 new foods yes one thing that I would say
3:02 about myself is I'm not afraid to try
3:05 anything from any country in comparison
3:07 to anybody else that I've met but there
3:10 are some foods that I wouldn't try are
3:12 there any foods that you really dislike
3:15 um so there's balut I don't know if you
3:17 would are aware of what it is but it's
3:21 like an egg but it's like a fetus of a
3:24 duck so that's that's something that I
3:27 don't like a skill that took me a long
3:32 time to learn um is singing and so the
3:35 reason why I wanted to learn how to sing
3:37 is because I wouldn't say it's like a
3:39 tradition where I'm from in the
3:42 Philippines but it's just like I grew up
3:44 just hearing people sing karaoke all the
3:47 time and I always thought like singing
3:50 is basically just the instrument of a
3:53 person and it was beautiful to me so
3:56 since I I was young I grew up just
3:58 watching people singing well listening
4:00 to people singing
4:02 and then once I got into
4:05 school um I think around the fourth or
4:08 fifth grade I started going into music
4:10 class where I would learn instruments
4:13 but it was like instruments can do so
4:14 much but I feel like the power of the
4:18 voice is stronger so I started to have
4:20 classes where I could learn to sing and
4:23 then also I would practice at home with
4:25 my family and we had our own karaoke
4:28 machine and my sisters were interested
4:30 in stuff like that too so we would sing
4:32 together or like we'd play I don't know
4:34 if you know the game band hero so we'd
4:38 play like like a guitar and drums and
4:39 then someone would be the singer which
4:42 would usually be me and another reason
4:44 why I was motivated to do that when I
4:47 got older when when I was in school we
4:49 used to have like talent shows I was
4:51 always like interested in music so I was
4:57 in the music side of school I guess and
4:59 um so when I was in music class I would
5:01 you know go to drumming contests but
5:04 that was boring then I started to go
5:05 into singing because everybody else
5:07 around me was singing and I wanted to be
5:10 that and then when I got to the talent
5:12 show I started doing better and better
5:15 and better and I won a couple times so
5:19 that motivated me but then um the
5:21 problem is that I've been
5:23 inconsistent like I would you know focus
5:25 on singing for a few months and then I
5:28 would stop and then I'd go back to it
5:30 and so I actually stopped for a few
5:32 years and then I only just recently
5:35 started trying to focus on it again so
5:38 we've been talking about a skill that
5:39 took you a long time to learn and we're
5:41 going to continue to talk about learning
5:44 and learning new skills what factors
5:46 determine how quickly someone can learn
5:47 a new
5:49 skill to thank you for watching this
5:51 video I want to give you a free course
5:53 that has helped thousands of students
5:56 improve their I speaking score what it's
5:58 going to do is take you through every
6:00 single part of the test and give you
6:02 strategies for part one part two and
6:05 part three and also allow you to
6:07 practice at home for free and get
6:09 feedback to sign up for that for free
6:11 all you have to do is just click the
6:13 link in the description thanks very much
6:15 and let's get back to the video so I
6:19 think well confidence and then like the
6:22 drive to want to do something like if
6:25 you're interested in it or not and then
6:28 also being consistent why do some people
6:29 give up when learning something
6:32 different ult um I think one of the
6:35 biggest factors would be comparison
6:37 let's say if you wanted to learn a sport
6:39 and you're with other people that are
6:42 good at the sport or for example when I
6:44 mentioned singing like everybody around
6:46 me was doing it and they were already
6:48 good at it and so if I'm participating
6:51 in competitions and other people are
6:53 doing better than me and I keep trying and
6:53 and
6:56 trying it it makes me feel demotivated
6:59 because I compare myself to other people
7:01 what role does natural Talent play in
7:03 mastering a skill I think that's an
7:05 interesting one because because I'm half
7:07 Filipino people think that I'm just
7:10 naturally musically inclined where it's
7:13 like I was blessed with this talent but
7:16 I don't I don't know if I agree because
7:18 I don't know if it's because I'm half or
7:21 not but when
7:24 you're consistent and may be
7:27 easier and then it runs through your
7:30 family but consistency is what
7:34 what drives oh my God why was this hard for
7:40 me I need to think of my answer I don't
7:41 know why
7:44 natural why does natural being blessed
7:47 with affect it cuz then I would be discrediting
7:49 discrediting
7:51 myself I just
7:54 say okay whatever I said just makes it
7:56 easier how important is having a good
7:59 teacher when learning something new I
8:01 learned that having a good teacher is
8:03 very important when you want to learn
8:06 something because personally in school I
8:10 struggled with math and I had tutor
8:13 lessons and then I would also just like
8:16 stay late after school with my teacher
8:19 but I never passed the class until I
8:21 took lessons with my best friend so
8:23 because we had a good relationship and
8:26 like I felt like she could understand me
8:29 um I think that it's super important why
8:32 does some old skills remain relevant
8:35 despite technological advances so
8:38 because technology is advancing by the
8:41 day everybody feels like okay the world
8:43 is just becoming technology focused
8:49 there are some talents that are
8:52 purely only where only humans can do
8:55 them so I think that you know they're
8:58 still important okay so let me give you
9:00 some feedback so I'm going to talk about
9:02 part one part two and part three give
9:04 you some general strategies and tactics
9:07 to to improve those areas and then we'll
9:09 talk about your individual marks your
9:12 band scores for the the individual
9:15 marking criteria so part one to thank

9:59 if not enjoy the rest of this free video
10:01 part one pretty good sometimes a little
10:03 short uh you could have expanded your
10:05 answers a little more I noticed that
10:07 when you're talking about your friends
10:09 or your family you're far more fluent
10:10 than when you're talking about more
10:13 abstract Concepts it seems as if you
10:15 find it very easy to talk about things
10:18 that you love so I would steer the
10:20 conversation towards those things most
10:23 of the questions are quite vague at
10:25 times such as your home your shopping
10:28 habits your free time when you involved
10:29 your dog or your sister sister or your
10:32 friends in those you were able to expand
10:34 your answers a lot more and you spoke a
10:37 lot more fluently now you weren't not
10:39 fluent all right you were very fluent
10:42 but it is a test and the examiner wants
10:43 you to expand your answers a little bit
10:46 more so they can judge your your fluency
10:48 and and your Grammar especially so I
10:50 don't think you will have any problems
10:53 with part one but if you can't talk
10:55 about someone you love or or something
10:58 you love um just try and steer it
11:01 towards something like an activity or an
11:03 object or or whatever that you're very
11:05 familiar with CU it seems that's your
11:08 comfort zone part two again I really
11:11 like the way you used a personal story I
11:12 would always recommend that you try and
11:15 do this that you don't try and make
11:17 something up or talk about something
11:20 just to that's more high level or
11:22 academic to impress The Examiner because
11:24 you are highly fluent when you're
11:26 talking about things that you enjoy real
11:29 stories from your life so always try and
11:32 use real examples and real stories I no
11:35 problem um with part two at all part
11:38 three you struggled a little bit more I
11:42 find that people who use real scenarios
11:46 and real life things when you you switch
11:48 gears and you ask them to think about
11:50 more abstract more academic things it's
11:52 not a criticism that they're not as
11:54 fluent it's not that you didn't answer
11:56 the questions but you could tell that
11:58 you just didn't know what to say at
12:02 times so what I would do for you in in
12:04 part three is again I would try and use
12:07 real examples these could be real
12:08 examples from your life or personal
12:11 stories about your real life so what
12:12 factors determine how quickly someone
12:15 can learn a new skill talk about you
12:17 know singing for example you can mention
12:19 that again or playing the drums or I
12:21 don't know what you're into but or maybe
12:22 it's something that you and your sister
12:24 were learning what role does natural
12:26 Talent play in MA mastering a skill I
12:28 really like the way that you used that
12:32 your um pod Filipino um and they're very
12:34 famous for for being musically inclined
12:37 you did lose track halfway through there
12:38 cuz I think you were again you were
12:41 going into talking more about culture
12:43 and genetics and all these different
12:45 things and whereas I think you could
12:47 just talk about do you have cousins in
12:50 the Philippines who are great at at or
12:51 you know on the other side of your
12:53 family are they not musically inclined
12:55 at all maybe you know but then I asked
12:59 you about a teacher and you immediately
13:00 started talking about your friend and
13:03 you were great I mean you know so this
13:05 is why I keep I know I'm repeating
13:07 myself everybody's different and for you
13:09 I think the best way to get one of the
13:11 highest marks is just to keep talking
13:12 about those people that that that you
13:15 care about let's now talk about your
13:17 individual marks so I think your biggest
13:19 strength H one of your biggest strengths
13:21 is your pronunciation you didn't grow up
13:23 in an English-speaking country but you
13:27 sounded like you sound better than a lot
13:29 of people who who who grew up in an
13:32 english- speaking country not just do I
13:35 understand you not just accent but your
13:38 your intonation and your sentence stress
13:41 is very very natural you convey a lot of
13:44 meaning through your intonation your
13:46 voice going up or your voice going down
13:48 when you're listing things you're doing
13:50 that and then you also use connected
13:53 speech sometimes very well um so I would
13:54 give you a bound nine for for your
13:57 pronunciation it is excellent there is
13:59 one area that I think you need to work
14:00 on we'll talk about that in a second but
14:02 let's talk about your other strengths
14:04 your vocabulary is excellent you use
14:06 idiomatic vocabulary very very well such
14:09 as this and you also use very high level
14:12 topic specific vocabulary such as this
14:15 you also use words very precisely and
14:17 very appropriately there's times where
14:20 you used simpler words and then there's
14:22 other times where you had to use more
14:25 advanced words like musically inclined
14:27 you could have said something like uh
14:29 Filipinos are good at music
14:32 but a more advanced way of saying that
14:34 is they are more musically inclined and
14:38 that is more specific topic specific
14:41 accurate term but the good thing is that
14:43 you you're not a try hard you're not
14:46 trying to use words like that in every
14:47 single sentence but because you don't
14:51 need to um you choose the right times to
14:54 use very high level vocabulary when it
14:57 helps you convey meaning grammar you
14:59 have no problem uh discussing ing any
15:02 any scenario and I didn't hear any
15:04 grammatical errors there might have been
15:06 a few little slips in there that I
15:09 missed um but no problem there so ban n
15:12 for grammar ban n for vocabulary 999 so
15:15 far so less than 1% of people in the
15:19 world who do the ISS test get a b nine
15:21 so it all comes down to the final part
15:24 you haven't got a b nine yet let's see
15:27 um let's see if we can help you with
15:29 that part which is fluency and coherence
15:32 fluency and coherence is is in one band
15:34 and you need to get both at a band nine
15:36 to get a band nine so coherence means
15:38 did you answer the question and fluency
15:41 means were you able to speak at a
15:46 natural pace without any hesitations
15:48 pauses audible pauses things like that
15:51 at times your fluency did stutter a
15:53 little bit especially in part three
15:55 where you were trying to think of
15:58 abstract ideas that is why I kept saying
16:00 over and over and over again just talk
16:02 about things that you care about when
16:06 you start thinking too much you uh and
16:09 then you stop and that will happen in
16:11 the real test because you will they will
16:14 throw very difficult questions at you in
16:16 part three because they think you're
16:18 good if they think that you are like at
16:21 a bond six or a b seven they won't ask
16:23 you many difficult questions in part
16:25 three but if they think this person
16:27 might be a bond eight Bond nine they
16:29 will through very difficult questions at
16:33 you to stretch your uh your ability you
16:35 also I don't know whether you're aware
16:37 of this most people aren't something
16:40 that people do a lot in Modern English
16:43 is they'll say filler words like like
16:45 you know like and you know there's
16:47 nothing wrong with that I try to stop no
16:49 no no no there's nothing wrong with that
16:53 the only time I would say you need to
16:55 improve that would be is if you want to
16:57 speak for a living like if you want to
16:59 be a podcaster or want to be a radio
17:02 presenter or a TV presenter or something
17:04 like that then you would really need to
17:06 work on it if it's just normal everyday
17:08 speech everyone else is doing it around
17:10 you so it's not a problem for the
17:12 purpose of the I test I don't think you
17:15 do it so much that it um affects your
17:17 speech everybody does throw in these
17:19 little fillers it's not a huge problem
17:21 but it does make you less fluent a
17:24 little bit at times I noticed that you
17:27 do it more when you're listing stuff and
17:28 then when you're trying to think of a
17:32 new idea you do heck you
17:37 know that way um not a problem but again
17:38 talk about things you're comfortable
17:40 talking about because when you do those
17:42 things are kind of are removed and then
17:44 we have coherence which is did you
17:46 answer the question and did you develop
17:49 your answer enough part one some of them
17:52 were a little short part three you got
17:54 you stopped halfway through sometimes
17:56 and had to think the examiner will base
18:00 your score not on one answer that was a
18:03 little short in part one or one answer
18:06 in part three that you had difficulty
18:08 with they will base it on the
18:11 entirety of your performance most
18:14 answers were were fine were no problem
18:16 at all but because some of them were you
18:18 wouldn't and because of the fluency
18:20 issues you wouldn't get the top score
18:22 for fluency you would get a band eight
18:24 but you are more than capable of getting
18:27 a bond nine so I think if you go and do
18:30 the test again you will 100% get a bond nine
