1:57 naturally Great Britain just like the US
1:59 was coming up with all kinds of
2:00 ridiculous strategies on how to stop
2:02 Soviet expansion should it come to that
2:04 and one of the ideas they had was to
2:06 have a nuclear Minefield and for a
2:08 nuclear Minefield you need nuclear mines
2:10 so they took apart one of their nuclear
2:11 bombs stuck it out of mine bought a bang
2:14 bada boom you have the nuclear landmine
2:16 this thing was going to be buried 3 35
2:18 feet deep all along the border and it
2:20 was going to generate a 10 kiloton
2:24 explosion that would blow a 640 foot in
2:26 diameter Crater where each land mine was
2:28 basically Great Britain was gonna blow
2:31 up anybody anywhere remotely near it and
2:31 then they were going to have a
2:33 radioactive moat between them and
2:35 communism now because the landmines were
2:37 going to be 35 feet underground the only
2:38 way they knew how to reliably detonate
2:40 them was going to be to use a timer so
2:41 they were going to have these 35 foot
2:42 holes pre-dugged they were going to have
2:44 the land mines there and ready and then
2:46 whenever the Soviets were advancing they
2:48 would set the landmines to explode in a
2:49 week throw them in the hole bury them
2:51 and Retreat and then the Soviets would
2:52 take over that area and one week later
2:54 they'd get blown up however the problem
2:56 with that was 35 feet below ground was
2:58 too cold and too wet and it was going to
3:00 cause the electronics to prematurely
3:02 detonate the Warhead unpredictably so
3:04 the clock idea was out so what do you do
3:06 you got to keep it warm you got to keep
3:08 it airtight and you got to have it on
3:10 some kind of timer clearly the only
3:12 thing that we can do is to pressurize
3:15 this landmine inside of a [ __ ]
3:16 capsule and and then inside of that
3:18 capsule we're going to put some chickens
3:20 with enough food Water and Air to
3:22 survive for a week that way when the
3:24 chickens die inside the land mine from
3:26 dehydration starvation and Suffocation
3:28 their body heat is going to dissipate
3:30 the landmine's going to get cold and
3:31 then it's going to blow up [ __ ]
3:33 science I guess I like this is the
3:36 craziest [ __ ] quack bang in the
3:37 history of humanity if you think

3:41 Britain's chicken landmine blows that

3:47 is alive or dead or both all at once

4:22 however these weapons were never
4:23 actually used because somebody with some
4:25 common sense chimed in and was like hey
4:27 maybe we shouldn't be leaving nuclear
4:29 booby traps all over West Germany and
4:30 then apparently everybody came to their
4:32 senses said yeah that's probably a good
4:34 idea I presume muscle memory then kicked
4:36 in for the British because they took the
4:38 only remaining prototype and put it
4:39 inside of a museum so yeah that's it
