0:18 This happened 2 years ago in Halloween
0:22 of 2023. I'm a 25-year-old male, but at
0:25 the time of this story, I was 22. I had
0:27 a long day of work due to a festival we
0:29 had where we had parents bring their
0:30 kids to the center for various
0:32 activities such as many different
0:34 competitive games, a costume contest,
0:36 trivia for candy, and a kids verse
0:39 parents dodgeball game. Overall, it was
0:41 a very fun time, but it was definitely
0:44 tiring. For context, I'm a community
0:46 worker, so doing community events is
0:49 pretty much what I do on a normal basis,
0:51 but it's also draining, if that makes
0:54 sense. Anyway, after it was all done, I
0:56 went home and was ready to call it a
0:59 night. About an hour after I got home,
1:01 it was around 6 something, my little
1:03 sister called me. My sister, who I'll
1:06 call Savannah, wanted me to take her and
1:08 my nephew, who I'll call Jackson,
1:10 trick-or-treating because neither our
1:12 parents nor Jackson's parents felt like
1:14 doing it. And as it usually goes, it
1:16 fell on me to be the cool big brother to
1:19 step in and make it happen. Savannah was
1:22 15 and Jackson was 11. Even though I
1:24 wasn't feeling it at all, I got up,
1:26 threw some clothes on, and headed to my
1:29 parents house to pick them up. Once I
1:31 got there, I asked if they were ready,
1:33 but Savannah was still finalizing her
1:35 costume. She was dressed up as Raven
1:38 from Teen Titans. She even had the white
1:39 makeup on to give that ghostly
1:42 appearance Raven usually has. Jackson
1:44 was dressed as Subzero from Mortal
1:46 Kombat. Once Savannah was done, we got
1:49 in the car and were on our way. I took
1:50 them to a pretty busy neighborhood to
1:52 make sure they got as much candy as
1:55 possible. Upon arrival, we started going
1:58 from house to house. Everyone we ran
2:00 into was friendly and had plenty of
2:02 treats to hand out. There was even one
2:03 house where an older man gave them each
2:06 a hot dog and a soda. He said every year
2:08 for Halloween, he doesn't hand out
2:10 candy. He grills food instead because
2:12 he'd rather give kids something with
2:14 protein since it's good for the body.
2:16 Honestly, we probably need more people
2:19 like that. We passed a lot of other kids
2:21 and some gave compliments to Savannah
2:23 and Jackson's costumes. I also saw some
2:26 really cool costumes myself. Everyone in
2:29 the area seemed to go all out. When we
2:31 hit the last house for the night, we
2:33 started walking back to the car. It was
2:35 about a 10-minute walk since we had gone
2:37 pretty far down the neighborhood. The
2:39 neighborhood was less active now, and
2:40 there weren't as many people out and
2:43 about. That's why I got alarmed when I
2:45 looked across the street and saw a
2:47 person dressed in all black standing in
2:49 a yard where there were no porch lights
2:52 on. I'm surprised I even noticed them at
2:53 all, but I tend to always pay attention
2:56 to my surroundings. When I looked
2:58 closer, it seemed like the person was
2:59 wearing a hooded cloak with an all black
3:02 outfit and a mask because I couldn't see
3:04 their face at all. I honestly couldn't
3:07 tell if it was a man or a woman. Whoever
3:09 it was, they appeared to be looking at
3:12 us. I told Savannah and Jackson to stay
3:14 close to me and said, "There's a
3:16 suspicious person across the yard. Look,
3:18 but don't stare." I said that so they
3:19 could see who I was talking about
3:21 without encouraging the person to
3:24 approach or follow us. Jackson laughed
3:25 and thought it was just someone trying
3:27 to scare people walking by. Savannah,
3:30 though, looked noticeably worried. Now,
3:32 just to add some context, I was carrying
3:34 a backpack with a Glock inside, and
3:36 Savannah knew this. So, when I told them
3:39 to stay close, she probably realized I
3:42 was being serious. Jackson was clueless.
3:44 He's too young for me to tell him that I
3:46 carry a real gun. As we were walking
3:48 away, it looked like that person was
3:50 still watching us, even though it was
3:52 hard to tell in the dark. We were
3:54 getting closer to the car when I
3:55 suddenly heard heavy footsteps behind
3:58 us, like boots hitting the concrete. I
4:00 turned around and saw that same person
4:04 again. Same outfit, all black, but this
4:06 time I could see more clearly. They were
4:08 wearing a tactical vest, tactical boots,
4:11 and black pants tucked into the boots.
4:13 They had on a full spandex mask that
4:15 completely covered their face. That made
4:18 the situation way more serious. When you
4:20 see someone dressed like that, the first
4:21 thing that comes to mind is that they're
4:25 armed. He's following us, I thought. I
4:27 whispered to Savannah and Jackson. I
4:29 need you both to listen very carefully.
4:31 Do not stop walking and do not look
4:33 back. The person I mentioned earlier is
4:35 following us. They're behind us right
4:37 now. The last thing we want is to alarm
4:39 them or set them off. So, just keep your
4:42 composure and keep walking. I mainly
4:44 looked at Jackson when saying this
4:46 because he's younger and might not fully
4:48 understand how serious this was.
4:51 Savannah understood completely. We kept
4:53 walking and did occasional glances
4:55 behind us. The person stayed the same
4:58 distance away, but was still following.
5:00 When we got to the car, they were still
5:02 coming our way. That's when I decided to
5:05 make a bold move. I pulled out my Glock
5:07 and pointed it at the person. I asked
5:10 why the they're following us. The person
5:12 raised their hands as if they didn't
5:14 expect me to do that, then slowly
5:17 removed their mask. It was a woman, and
5:19 she looked to be in her 30s. She took
5:21 her mask off, but didn't answer my
5:24 question. She just stared at me blankly.
5:27 I asked again, still pointing the gun.
5:30 Why are you following us? What she said
5:33 next made no sense. In an almost robotic
5:36 tone, she said, "I'm an undercover cop.
5:37 I was told there was a break-in, so I
5:39 came to check it out. That's why I was
5:41 standing outside that house, but when
5:43 you looked at me funny, I assumed you
5:45 were the one who did it. So, it would be
5:46 wise to lower that weapon or I could
5:48 have you arrested for threatening an
5:51 officer of the law." I hesitated, but
5:53 then lowered my gun. What else was I
5:55 supposed to do? I didn't want to risk an
5:57 arrest or ruin the kid's night, but her
6:00 story didn't make any sense. She claimed
6:02 she got word of a break-in, so why would
6:04 she just stand outside facing away from
6:06 the house? How did me looking at her
6:08 funny make her think I was the one who
6:10 did it? Why would I break into a house
6:11 and then casually walk through the
6:13 neighborhood? And why was she wearing a
6:15 hooded cloak?
6:17 All these questions were racing through
6:19 my mind. So, I asked her, "If you're
6:21 undercover, why are you in tactical
6:22 gear? Wouldn't that kind of give away
6:24 that you're law enforcement? And what's
6:26 the point of the cloak? She didn't
6:29 answer. She just stared at me again, but
6:32 this time her expression changed. There
6:33 was something malicious in her eyes,
6:35 like she was irritated that I didn't
6:37 believe her and was deciding what to do
6:40 next. Jackson and Savannah stayed
6:42 completely quiet through all of this.
6:44 Then she smiled this creepy, unsettling
6:47 smile and said, "If you didn't have that
6:49 gun, this night would have ended a hell
6:51 of a lot different for you." Right as
6:53 she finished saying that, I noticed four
6:55 figures suddenly emerge from between the
6:58 houses walking toward us. All of them
7:00 were wearing tactical gear, but without
7:02 the cloak. I instantly told Savannah and
7:04 Jackson to get in the car, keeping my
7:07 eyes on the woman and the figures. Once
7:09 I saw they were in, I got into and drove
7:12 off. As I was leaving, the woman was
7:14 still standing there smiling. The
7:17 others, three men and one woman, were
7:20 not smiling. They had blank emotionless
7:22 faces like they didn't even have souls.
7:25 It's hard to explain. The whole car ride
7:27 back was silent. I'm sure the kids were
7:30 in shock just like I was. I dropped them
7:32 off, made sure they got in safely, then
7:34 went home to process everything that
7:36 happened. The thing I couldn't shake off
7:39 was why they targeted us. The
7:40 neighborhood was full of people walking
7:44 around. So why us? I wish I could say it
7:47 ended there, but it didn't. A few days
7:49 later, I got a text from an unknown
7:52 number. It was just a photo, no words.
7:54 The picture was of my car taken in the
7:57 parking lot of my apartment complex. I
7:59 contacted the police and told them
8:00 everything that happened on Halloween
8:02 night. They took the report, but they
8:04 couldn't investigate unless a direct
8:07 threat was made. Typical. Out of
8:10 curiosity and maybe stupidity, I went
8:11 back to that same house where I first
8:14 saw that woman. I knocked on the door
8:17 and a man in his 40s answered. I asked
8:19 if they'd experienced a break-in on
8:21 Halloween night. He looked confused and
8:23 said no. He said he went to bed early
8:25 because he had work the next morning and
8:28 didn't notice anything strange. I told
8:30 him what I saw and he had no idea what I
8:33 was talking about. I thanked him for his
8:36 time and left. At that point, I already
8:38 knew the undercover cop story was fake,
8:39 but I wanted to do my own little
8:42 investigation just to make sense of it.
8:44 Whoever that woman and those people were
8:46 somehow knew my phone number and where I
8:49 lived. It makes me wonder, was that not
8:51 a random encounter after all? Were they
8:53 watching me for a while? Were they
8:54 planning something that night? And my
8:57 being armed threw them off. All those
8:59 thoughts messed me up and made me feel
9:01 paranoid for a long time. I had to go to
9:03 therapy and install a Ring camera at my
9:06 front door just to feel safe again. In
9:07 case you're wondering, I haven't been
9:10 contacted by any unknown numbers since.
9:12 Nothing else has happened since that
9:14 picture. Two years later, I still think
9:17 back on that night. Writing this out
9:18 helps me a lot, and I'm trying to fully
9:20 move on from it. But if there's one
9:22 thing I want people to take away from
9:23 this, it's to always watch your
9:26 surroundings. You never know who might
9:28 be watching you. It's easy to get caught
9:29 up in something dangerous just for
9:31 existing. So, always stay safe and
9:34 protected because I can say with full
9:35 confidence that being armed that night
9:49 This happened when I was 12 years old.
9:51 It was Halloween day and my family was
9:53 staying at a small family resort about
9:56 an hour away from where we lived. My
9:57 parents wanted to do something different
9:59 that year instead of just walking around
10:01 our neighborhood for trick-or-treating.
10:02 The resort was holding a Halloween
10:04 celebration that weekend with a bunch of
10:06 activities, games, and even a haunted
10:09 hayride. It wasn't a big place. It had
10:12 maybe 10 cabins, a main lodge, a small
10:14 lake, and a long open field where they
10:16 set up hay rides and games. It was
10:19 surrounded by woods on all sides. During
10:21 the day, it looked normal, even kind of
10:23 peaceful. But once it got dark, the
10:26 woods looked black and creepy, and the
10:28 resort felt a little too quiet. We
10:31 checked in early that afternoon. I
10:32 remember walking into the cabin and
10:34 feeling excited because I could smell
10:36 campfire smoke and candy apples in the
10:38 air. Kids were running around in
10:40 costumes even though it wasn't dark yet.
10:42 My parents said the hayride was starting
10:44 around 7 and there'd be games before
10:46 that. So, I went off to play while they
10:48 unpacked. They had booths where you
10:50 could toss rings over bottles for candy,
10:52 a costume contest, and even a pumpkin
10:55 carving area. Everything was decorated
10:57 with orange lights and fake spiderw
10:59 webs. I met another kid around my age
11:02 there. His name was Ryan. He was wearing
11:04 a skeleton costume and said he and his
11:06 parents were staying in the next cabin
11:08 over from ours. We played a few games
11:10 together and got a good amount of candy.
11:13 As it got closer to 7, we saw a crowd of
11:15 families walking over to the hayride
11:17 area. The tractor pulling the wagon was
11:19 parked near a big barn and they had hay
11:21 bales lined up inside for people to sit
11:24 on. There were maybe 20 of us who got
11:27 on. The driver wore a scarecrow mask and
11:28 there were workers dressed like zombies
11:30 who would jump out during the ride to
11:33 scare people. The ride started out fun.
11:35 It was dark by then and they had torches
11:38 lighting the dirt trail. The tractor
11:40 moved slowly through the woods and every
11:42 now and then someone in a costume would
11:44 appear from behind a tree or run up to
11:46 the wagon. Most people laughed or
11:49 screamed and then laughed again. It felt
11:51 like a normal Halloween attraction, but
11:53 about halfway through, something made me
11:55 uncomfortable. We were passing through a
11:57 part of the trail that was darker than
11:59 the rest. The tractor slowed down and I
12:01 looked toward the edge of the woods on
12:03 my side. That's when I saw a man
12:05 standing just outside the torch light.
12:08 He wasn't part of the hayride cast. I
12:09 could tell that right away he wasn't
12:12 wearing a costume that fit the theme.
12:14 From what I remember, he had a black
12:16 jacket, jeans, and a baseball cap pulled
12:19 low over his face. He was just standing
12:21 there not moving with his hands in his
12:23 pockets. At first, I thought maybe he
12:25 was one of the workers taking a break,
12:27 but he wasn't doing anything. He was
12:30 only watching. At one point, I made eye
12:32 contact with him, or at least I think I
12:35 did. Even though his face was shadowed,
12:38 I could feel his eyes locked on me. I
12:39 turned to look at the people around me
12:41 to see if anyone else noticed, but no
12:44 one seemed to. When I looked back, he
12:45 was still there in the exact same
12:48 position. I tried to ignore it for the
12:50 rest of the ride, but I kept thinking
12:52 about him. When the hayride ended and
12:54 everyone got off, I looked back one more
12:58 time toward the woods. He was gone. I
13:00 didn't mention it to anyone right then.
13:02 I figured maybe I imagined it or overreacted.
13:03 overreacted.
13:05 We went back to the lodge where they had
13:08 more games and food. My parents sat by a
13:10 bonfire while Ryan and I went around
13:12 collecting candy. Everything seemed
13:15 normal again. About an hour later, I saw
13:18 him again. Ryan and I were standing near
13:20 the snack table when I noticed someone
13:22 off to the side of the crowd. It was the
13:25 same man. He wasn't close, maybe 30 ft
13:27 away, but he was standing near the
13:29 treeine watching again. There were a lot
13:31 of people around, so it felt strange
13:33 that he'd just be standing there alone.
13:36 I remember my stomach tightening when I
13:38 realized he was looking in my direction.
13:40 I tried to get a better look at his
13:41 face, but it was hard because of the
13:44 lighting. I could make out a short beard
13:45 and I think his hat had some kind of
13:48 logo on it. I nudged Ryan and told him
13:50 about the guy. Ryan looked over and
13:53 said, "Maybe he's one of the workers." I
13:55 said, "He's not. He was in the woods
13:58 during the hayride." Ryan shrugged and
14:00 said, "Maybe he's a dad." I wanted to
14:02 believe that, but he wasn't talking to
14:05 anyone, just standing there. A few
14:07 minutes later, when I looked back again,
14:09 he was gone.
14:11 Around 9:00, if I had to guess, most of
14:12 the little kids had gone back to their
14:15 cabins. The event was winding down, but
14:18 Ryan and I still had energy. We decided
14:20 to walk around the resort before going
14:22 in. There was a trail behind the cabins
14:24 that led into the woods. Ryan said we
14:26 should go a little way in to do
14:28 something scary for Halloween before the
14:30 night ended. I didn't want to go too
14:32 far, but we had flashlights and I didn't
14:34 want to look like a coward, so we walked
14:36 down the dirt path together, laughing
14:38 and daring each other to keep going.
14:41 The farther we went, the quieter it got.
14:43 The sounds from the resort faded until
14:45 it was just the crunching of our shoes
14:48 on the path. We only went maybe 200 ft
14:50 in when we stopped near a clearing.
14:52 There was an old wooden sign nailed to a
14:55 tree that said private property. We
14:57 started throwing small rocks at the sign
14:58 and pretending to summon ghosts or
15:00 something dumb like that. Then we both
15:04 heard it. Footsteps.
15:06 Heavy, slow footsteps coming from behind
15:09 us somewhere deeper on the path.
15:11 We froze and turned around. Ryan
15:14 whispered, "Probably another kid." But
15:16 it didn't sound like a kid. Whoever it
15:19 was walked with weight like an adult. I
15:21 shine my flashlight down the path. The
15:23 light only went so far, and I couldn't
15:26 see anyone yet. Then the footsteps
15:28 stopped. For a few seconds, it was
15:31 completely silent. Then a voice spoke.
15:34 It said, "Hey there, boys." It was a
15:37 man's voice. Calm, but somehow
15:40 intimidating. Ryan looked at me and I
15:42 think he realized the same thing I did.
15:44 It was the man from the hayride. He
15:46 stepped into the light just enough for
15:49 us to see part of him. Same black jacket
15:51 and hat. "What are you two doing out
15:54 here?" he asked. "You like candy?"
15:57 Neither of us said anything. He pulled
15:58 something out of his pocket and held it
16:01 up. I could see the orange wrapper. It
16:03 was a Reese's cup. "I got a bunch more
16:06 of these in my cabin," he said. "Come
16:08 on, I'll give you some." Ryan took a
16:10 step back. "I remember his face going
16:13 pale." The man took a few steps closer
16:15 and then said, "You don't have to be
16:17 scared. It's Halloween. I'm just giving
16:19 candy out. I saw you boys on the hayride
16:22 earlier." When he said that, my stomach
16:25 basically dropped. I grabbed Ryan's arm
16:28 and whispered, "Run!" We both turned and
16:29 sprinted down the path toward the
16:32 resort. I could hear him behind us for a
16:34 second. His footsteps were pounding hard
16:36 as he started to chase. I didn't dare
16:38 look back. My heart was beating so hard
16:41 it hurt. The path seemed longer than
16:43 before. When we reached the edge of the
16:45 woods, I could finally see the lights
16:47 from the resort again. I yelled for help
16:49 as we ran out of the trees and back
16:52 toward the crowd near the bonfire. A few
16:54 adults turned toward us, startled. We
16:56 didn't stop until we got right up to the
16:59 people. I turned around expecting to see
17:01 the man behind us, but he wasn't there.
17:04 The path was empty. My parents came over
17:07 right away asking what happened. I told
17:09 them everything about the man watching
17:11 me on the hayride, seeing him near the
17:13 trees, and then following us into the
17:17 woods. Ryan confirmed it all. My dad and
17:18 another man grabbed flashlights and went
17:20 to check the path, but they didn't find
17:24 anyone. A few workers searched too, but
17:26 he was gone. The resort staff called the
17:29 local police to report what happened.
17:31 They arrived about 30 minutes later and
17:33 took statements from me, Ryan, and our
17:35 parents. They said they checked the
17:37 area, notify nearby cabins to keep an
17:40 eye out. That night, my parents didn't
17:43 let me out of their sight. We stayed in
17:45 the cabin with the door locked. I
17:47 couldn't fall asleep for hours. Every
17:50 noise outside made me jump. The next
17:51 morning, the police came back and told
17:53 us they searched the property, but
17:54 didn't find anyone matching the
17:56 description. No vehicles had been
17:58 reported missing, and no one fitting
18:00 that man's description had checked in.
18:02 They thought maybe it was a trespasser
18:05 from outside the resort. We left later
18:07 that day. I remember staring out the car
18:10 window as we drove past the woods, half
18:11 expecting to see him standing there
18:14 again. For weeks after that, I kept
18:16 thinking I saw him on the side of the
18:19 road, outside stores, even once at my
18:21 school parking lot, but it was always
18:24 someone else, or at least I hope it was.
18:27 Ryan and I kept in touch for a while. He
18:28 told me he couldn't sleep for days after
18:31 it happened. Nothing ever came of this.
18:34 The police never called again. The man
18:36 was never identified or caught. Now I'm
18:38 older, and when I think about that
18:40 night, what scares me isn't what he did,
18:42 it's what he could have done.
18:44 If we had believed him for even a
18:46 second, if we had walked toward him
18:48 instead of running, I don't think I'd be
18:49 here to tell this story. And every
18:51 Halloween since then, whenever I see
18:53 someone standing alone at the edge of a
18:56 crowd, I always think of that man.
18:57 Sometimes people who look like they're
18:59 part of the fun are watching for a
19:13 My name is Roger and this happened to me
19:16 on Halloween night three years ago. I'm
19:19 29 and work a boring office job, but
19:22 it's good pay. When this happened, I was
19:25 getting stuck with the stuff. Beginner's
19:28 time off, the shifts nobody wanted, etc.
19:30 So, when Halloween, my favorite holiday,
19:31 rolled around, I was actually quite
19:34 excited. It was never easy being the new
19:36 guy at work. So, I was wanting to enjoy
19:38 a night of seeing kids be kids and
19:41 chilling out at home watching movies. At
19:43 the time, I was living alone in a small
19:45 house on the outskirts of town with my
19:47 girlfriend, but she was out of town with
19:50 her parents. It wasn't isolated exactly.
19:52 I had neighbors, but the street got
19:54 really quiet once the trick-or-treating
19:57 hours ended. The families in the area
19:58 usually shut their lights off around
20:01 9:00 p.m. Since I didn't have kids, I
20:03 just handed out candy until the crowd
20:06 died down. On several past Halloweens,
20:09 before I got my own place, I was quite
20:11 used to the occasional ding-dong ditch
20:13 prank. That's why there is a trick in
20:16 treat here and there. That year,
20:18 Halloween fell on a Saturday, and I
20:21 remember it was chilly but clear out. By
20:23 10:30, I was lounging on my couch, half
20:25 watching a horror movie while picking
20:28 through a bowl of leftover candy. I
20:30 hadn't seen anyone in about an hour. So,
20:32 when I heard a faint knock at my side
20:34 door, I assumed it was stragglers. But
20:36 when I opened the door, no one was
20:39 there, just the empty driveway and the
20:42 faint rustling of leaves. I brushed it
20:44 off. Kids play pranks all the time on
20:46 Halloween. I headed back to my living
20:48 room to finish watching The Conjuring,
20:51 too. 15 minutes later, I heard the same
20:53 sound again. Only this time, it was
20:55 coming from the back door, the one that
20:58 led to the small deck. That set off
21:00 alarms in my head because nobody used
21:02 that entrance. I froze in the living
21:05 room, listening. The TV was off now, and
21:07 I could hear it clearly, the metal
21:09 rattle of the back door knob being
21:13 tested slowly and cautiously.
21:15 Whoever was trying my door was either
21:17 checking if it was locked cautiously or
21:18 believed it was unlocked and trying to
21:21 be quiet. I crept into the kitchen,
21:23 staying low, and that's when I saw him
21:25 through the window. A man was crouched
21:27 down near the door, wearing dark clothes
21:29 and a cheap cracked Halloween mask
21:31 pushed up on top of his head. In his
21:34 hand, he held a crowbar. He wasn't
21:36 trying to hide. He was deliberate and
21:38 calm, like he knew I was inside and
21:41 didn't care. I backed away quietly and
21:43 grabbed my phone, whispering to 911 what
21:45 was happening. The operator told me to
21:48 stay on the line, lock myself somewhere
21:50 safe, and not to engage. I didn't want
21:52 to make noise by slamming the doors
21:54 upstairs. So, I stayed crouched at the
21:56 top of the steps, clutching a kitchen
21:59 knife, whispering updates. I peaked down
22:01 and saw the man move away from the back
22:03 door. That's when I heard the faint pop
22:06 of a window screen being pried off. He
22:09 was at the basement window now.
22:11 I whispered to the dispatcher, "He's at
22:14 the basement." My voice was shaking. She
22:16 told me officers were already on their
22:19 way. Then came the worst moment. I heard
22:22 glass crack. He was breaking the window.
22:25 My blood ran cold. And it wasn't just a
22:27 smash and grab. He knew I was there. And
22:29 most burglars typically don't try to
22:30 enter a home where they know someone's
22:34 still inside. Minutes felt like hours.
22:36 The dispatcher kept me talking quietly
22:38 to make sure I was still okay. I heard
22:41 footsteps crunching outside. The man was
22:43 circling the house again. Then
22:46 headlights swept across the blinds.
22:48 Relief flooded me as flashing red and
22:50 blue lights pulled up in front. The man
22:53 bolted. I watched him sprint across my
22:55 yard, but he didn't get far. The
22:57 officers tackled him just past my
22:59 driveway. I didn't even realize I was
23:01 shaking until I saw one of the cops
23:03 leading him back in cuffs. That's when I
23:05 saw what he'd been carrying. the
23:08 crowbar, duct tape, and zip ties stuffed
23:10 in his bag. This wasn't a burglar
23:12 looking for valuables. This guy had a
23:15 plan, and it was something far worse.
23:17 The police told me he had a long record
23:19 of breaking into homes, and that he was
23:21 suspected in some other cases where
23:24 people had gone missing. To this day, I
23:26 hate being home alone on Halloween. It's
23:28 supposed to be about scares and fun, but
23:30 whenever I hear footsteps or knocking
23:32 outside at night, I can't help but
23:34 remember everything about this night.
23:36 The part that chills me the most is if
23:37 the police had been just 5 minutes
23:39 later, I might not be here to tell the
23:42 story. The police later followed up
23:44 weeks later. They told me what they
23:47 found in his backpack. He had a cold 45
23:50 handgun, several kitchen knives, and rope.
