0:16 inside Paul's head here to understand
0:19 the nature of this
0:23 slavery and the nature of this
0:28 freedom for Freedom Christ has set us
0:32 free that's what he says to Christians
0:35 in the churches of galatia for Freedom
0:38 Christ has set us free stand firm
0:40 therefore in this
0:44 freedom and do not submit again to a
0:45 yoke of
0:49 slavery so father as we try to understand
0:50 understand the
0:52 the
0:55 preciousness of this freedom for which
0:57 we've been
1:00 freed by Christ
1:02 and we try to understand the the horror
1:06 of this slavery to which they were
1:10 turning oh grant us to understand what
1:16 they are and how to flee this and how to
1:19 embrace and live in this I pray in Jesus name

1:25 amen let's take our cue from this word
1:29 yoke that's where we'll start do not
1:32 submit again to to a yoke of
1:37 slavery so i' I've got an animal
1:40 here don't ask me what kind of animal
1:43 that is and I got an animal
1:46 here and on these two animals so that
1:49 they can do the hard work of say plowing
1:52 I'm going to put on them a big Yol and
1:56 then the the ropes go back here to the
1:58 to the
2:01 human who's
2:05 got them yolked in so there's this yoke
2:08 of slavery now what characterizes that
2:11 yoke one is
2:15 heavy it's
2:17 uncomfortable it's weight it's around your
2:18 your
2:23 neck and secondly it's
2:27 coerced right this this guy is
2:29 controlling your behavior so if you're
2:33 under it yoke of slavery somebody else
2:35 is pulling your strings doesn't matter
2:37 whether you feel like you're operating
2:39 in Free Will you're
2:43 not you're in a yoke of slavery so at
2:47 least those two things it's a heavy
2:51 burdensome thing and it's it's not
2:54 letting you do what you want to
2:57 do these these oxen here do not want to
2:59 be doing this they'd rather out be be
3:02 out grazing in the field somewhere or
3:05 hanging out with a a few lady
3:09 cows they don't want to be coerced by
3:12 this fella now to show that we're on the
3:18 right track here look at acts 151
3:22 to10 some men came down from
3:24 Judea and were teaching the brothers
3:27 this is in in
3:30 Antioch unless you are circumcised ized
3:33 according to the custom of Moses you
3:35 cannot be
3:38 saved in verse 10 the response of the
3:42 Apostles to that now therefore why are
3:46 you putting God to the test by placing a
3:48 yoke what's the
3:52 Yoke the demand for circumcision in
3:56 order to be saved placing a yoke on the
3:58 neck of the disciples that neither our
4:01 fathers nor we have been able to bear
4:04 it's too
4:10 heavy we have not been able to bear that
4:13 yoke so we know we're on the right T
4:17 track because that's the issue here in
4:21 Galatians look I Paul say to you that if
4:23 you are circumcised so that's what's being
4:24 being required
4:25 required
4:28 circumcision for justification
4:30 justification by law and that law
4:33 corresponds to circumcision Christ will
4:36 be of no advantage to you I testify
4:38 again to every man who's being
4:41 circumcised that he's a debtor to keep
4:44 the whole law and that debtor right
4:47 there is this slavery this burden of
4:51 debt I got to keep the law in order to
4:54 be justified that's the heavy yoke
5:04 justification by faith is to come back
5:09 under a slavery of heaviness and a
5:12 slavery of coercion meaning you're being
5:15 required to do by this law what you
5:16 don't want to
5:21 do you're having to perform your way to
5:23 heaven which is an impossible
5:25 impossible
5:29 task in fact notice what it says you are
5:31 severed from Christ you who would be
5:33 justified by law you have fallen Away
5:38 From Grace now right there I think is
5:41 the clue to the opposite of the
5:45 slavery so if slavery
5:47 is being a
5:50 deor bearing the immense weight of
5:54 keeping the whole law in order to be
5:56 justified and operating without a
5:58 transformed heart so you're always being
6:01 told to do things you don't have a heart
6:04 to do if that's the slavery what what's
6:07 the freedom and this the freedom
6:09 corresponds to this Grace here and this
6:12 Faith here you have fallen from Grace
6:15 where you were enjoying
6:18 freedom because through the Spirit by
6:21 faith we ourselves eagerly wait for the
6:23 hope of righteousness so Grace
6:26 corresponding to Faith is the path to
6:29 freedom and the best place to see that
6:34 is in chapter 3 this is just so
6:38 glorious remember it said Christ
6:40 redeemed us from the curse of the law
6:42 now that word redeemed could be translated
6:45 translated
6:50 freed freed from
6:54 slavery purchased by Ransom from bondage
6:58 so think Freedom Christ redeemed us from
7:01 the curse of the
7:05 law becoming a curse for us the heaviest
7:09 aspect of this horrible yoke here is
7:13 that these two oxen are going to wind up in
7:14 in
7:19 hell that's their future if they reject
7:21 Grace if they reject faith if they try
7:24 to be justified by the
7:27 law they're going to remain under the
7:30 curse of the law for it is written
7:32 cursed is everyone who's hanged on a
7:34 tree which is where Jesus was hanged so
7:38 that in Christ The Blessing of Abraham
7:40 might come to the Gentiles so that we
7:42 might receive the promised Spirit
7:43 through faith so notice two things
7:47 happen in this Redemption one curse is
7:52 lifted from us he became a curse for us
7:54 the weight of
7:56 damnation which is the worst weight of
8:00 all is taken by Christ
8:04 he became cursed in our place and
8:08 secondly the lack of ability and desire
8:11 to do the things that please God is
8:14 taken away because we receive the spirit
8:18 so the cross and the spirit do the
8:21 double work of
8:24 Liberation Liberation
8:28 from this horrible weight here that
8:31 results in Dam ation and Liberation from
8:34 the coercion because we're being changed
8:38 from the inside out by the Holy Spirit
8:40 here's Galatians
8:44 5:116 I say walk by the
8:47 spirit and you won't gratify the desires
8:50 of the flesh which lead to destruction
8:53 the fruit of the spirit is love joy
8:55 peace patience kindness goodness
8:57 faithfulness gentleness self-control
9:01 against such things there's no law in
9:05 other words the spirit from the inside
9:09 out not coercively from the outside in
9:11 it's not that we're reading rules
9:14 written on tablets of stone the spirit
9:16 is writing the law on our hearts so that
9:19 all these beautiful things are being
9:22 worked in Us by the spirit and against
9:25 such things there is no law we are being
9:29 set free not only from the weight and the
9:29 the
9:34 curse of this yoke but also from the
9:37 fact that we under the law were just
9:41 forced to do things we had no heart to
9:43 do so
9:56 Freedom what is Christian Freedom it is
10:06 desire to do
10:08 do with
10:10 with no
10:13 no
10:22 years now that's a provocative way to
10:24 say it but think it through with me when
10:29 we are set free by Christ through the
10:32 red Redemption of the substitution by
10:35 which he took from us the curse there
10:38 are no regrets in a thousand years we
10:40 are going to be happy forever and ever
10:42 and ever because there's no curse
10:44 hanging over us anymore for our
10:48 Disobedience we are justified by
10:52 faith and secondly because the Holy Spirit
10:58 comes so that we might receive the
11:03 promised holy spirit and we thus walk by
11:07 the spirit therefore our desires are
11:10 changed from the inside out we don't
11:12 have any ropes on us like this yanking
11:15 us around by the neck because we hate
11:17 the will of God we don't hate the will
11:20 of God anymore we're changed from the
11:22 inside out by the spirit there's this
11:27 double deliverance from slavery the
11:29 slavery of lacking desire
11:34 and the slavery of of the curse let me
11:36 illustrate suppose you
11:46 airplane okay this an airplane and
11:48 you're going to skydive you want a
11:51 Skydive you think so you get up and
11:54 you're now I don't know how many
11:56 thousands of feet up in the air and they
11:58 open the door and you're standing there
12:00 and you look down you say no way
12:02 absolutely no way am I going to jump out
12:05 of this airplane I do not desire to do
12:07 this now that I see what it is and they
12:08 put a gun to your head and say we're
12:10 going to shoot you dead if you don't
12:12 jump and okay you jump because that's
12:14 certain death this may be death that's
12:17 not Freedom right you don't have the
12:20 desire you got to have a desire for
12:23 there to be freedom in
12:28 Christ or suppose uh you've you you jump
12:31 because you want to and then you realize
12:33 I never got any training for this I
12:35 don't have any ability to work this
12:37 parachute and you're looking at all the
12:40 ropes and devices and you have no idea
12:43 what to do you don't have any ability to
12:46 pull off this life of skydiving you
12:49 smash into the ground at 120 miles an
12:53 hour that's not Freedom you have to have
12:58 the ability to work the thing or suppose
13:01 you jump out you have all the desire you
13:04 have all the the the
13:06 training and about 30 seconds later you
13:09 look and say that's that's not a
13:12 parachute that's a
13:14 backpack you don't
13:18 have any hope and there are plenty of
13:22 regrets as you fall the curse has not
13:27 been lifted so I'm saying there are
13:29 these things you must have in in order
13:31 for there to be freedom in Christ namely
13:35 you need to have the curse lifted no
13:39 more cursed heavy load that's going to
13:42 drag you to destruction and you must be
13:46 free from the inside out being changed
13:51 by the spirit and that's what he did
13:54 when you trusted
13:59 Christ he took all your curse away he
14:02 gave you the Holy Spirit He Set You Free
14:05 from justification by lawke
14:09 keeping and now he pleads for these
14:14 Galatians stand there keep trusting Live
14:17 Your Life by Faith remember Galatians
14:21 2:20 I've been crucified with Christ it
14:23 is no longer I who live but Christ who
14:26 lives in me and the life I now live in
14:30 the flesh I live by faith do that live
14:34 by faith in the Son of God he loved you
14:37 keep remembering the love keep living by
