0:02 it is time to get on your academic grind
0:04 because in this video I will be sharing
0:07 with you all my best secrets and tips to
0:09 becoming an academic weapon and
0:19 take hello and welcome back to my
0:22 channel as someone who has a 4.6 GPA of
0:25 1580 on the SAT perfect scores on all
0:28 the AP exams I took and is a US national
0:30 chemistry Olympiad finalist I have
0:32 discovered some amazing study methods
0:34 and tips throughout the years and I'm
0:36 about to share all of them with you
0:38 however this video just can't possibly
0:40 be enough for me to include everything
0:42 so if you want the Ultimate Guide to
0:44 Becoming an academic weapon I created a
0:47 study guide with over 55 pages of
0:49 helpful information that took me
0:51 hundreds of hours and several months to
0:53 put together in this guide I will share
0:55 with you 10 of the most helpful study
0:57 methods and tips that I used and tips to
1:00 Ace every single test study Secret for
1:02 every possible subject out there
1:04 productivity tips mindset and motivation
1:06 and just so much more so if you would
1:08 like this study guide it is available in
1:10 the top Link in the description box
1:12 below in my beacon AI page I'll also put
1:14 the link right here it will be at the
1:16 very top and you can scroll through the
1:18 images to see the table of contents and
1:21 some sample Pages it is everything that
1:23 you need to know and I mean truly
1:24 everything everything that helped me
1:27 succeed in school is there in the most
1:29 detailed but also easy and simple to
1:32 understand format as possible if you are
1:34 a student or anyone trying to learn
1:37 something trust me it will be useful but
1:38 without further Ado let's get into this
1:41 video okay first what is stopping you
1:47 weapon I am going to point out three of
1:49 the most common problems that are
1:51 hindering your studies number one is
1:53 productivity you are not being
1:54 productive enough and you are simply
1:57 wasting your precious time away which is
1:59 why you are failing your classes okay so
2:01 how are you wasting time it could be
2:03 scrolling through social media hanging
2:05 out with friends and even studying Yes
2:07 you heard me right studying if you are
2:09 studying the wrong way you are simply
2:11 wasting time which is why I'll be going
2:13 over the best study methods later on in
2:15 this video or other people may be
2:17 wasting your time for example if someone
2:19 bothers you on tasks that aren't your
2:21 responsibility or if they share their
2:24 life stories with you for hours straight
2:26 yes you are wasting your time okay so
2:28 the first thing you must do is to stop
2:31 wasting time value your time a tip is to
2:34 put a price tag on your time and I would
2:36 recommend putting an extremely and kind
2:38 of unreasonably high price tag on your
2:40 time at first for example you can do
2:43 like $1,000 per hour or even $10,000 per
2:46 hour this way it would even hurt you to
2:48 waste even a minute instead of thinking
2:50 of time as time think of it as money if
2:52 you are wasting an hour scrolling on Tik
2:55 Tok you are wasting $10,000 but even if
2:57 you just choose to think of time as time
2:59 why are you wasting the thing that is
3:01 most precious to you start studying
3:03 smarter not harder stop scrolling
3:04 through your phone mindlessly and
3:07 remembering nothing after you finish you
3:09 are wasting your life away the next
3:10 problem that is preventing you from
3:12 becoming an academic weapon is thinking
3:15 that you don't have enough time but in
3:17 reality you have enough time to do
3:20 anything you want it is only a matter of
3:22 whether you prioritize it or not and let
3:24 me tell you you should very well
3:26 prioritize your studies studying is so
3:28 important to build good habits early on
3:31 like discipline an open mind and so much
3:33 more and they can very well be the
3:35 foundation for your future so stop
3:37 saying that you don't have enough time
3:39 to study and quit going on your phone
3:41 binging TV shows or even just wake up
3:44 half an hour earlier to study you will
3:46 find the time to do anything that you
3:48 set your mind to okay the next problem
3:49 that can be standing in your way is
3:52 laziness you simply just don't want to
3:54 study you tell yourself that you are
3:56 tired after school and you lay around on
3:58 your bed for the rest of the afternoon
4:00 if that is the case I will have a second
4:02 on mindset and motivation later on in
4:04 this video that will likely help you but
4:06 it is only up to you to get over this
4:09 laziness good study habits are so
4:10 important to build early on they will
4:13 carry on into your job in the workforce
4:15 and in so many other aspects of Life
4:17 Learning to study well isn't only just
4:18 going to help you in school but also
4:21 throughout life and I'm sorry but who
4:23 are you to be lazy about learning there
4:26 are people in the world begging for the
4:28 opportunity to go to school to be doing
4:30 homework to learn new things and you are
4:32 giving up this opportunity because
4:34 you're tired sure that may be a valid
4:37 excuse but are you actually tired or are
4:39 you simply lazy and finding excuses for
4:41 yourself this leads me to my third
4:44 reason which is lying to yourself you
4:46 are lying to yourself and saying that
4:48 you understand the content when in fact
4:50 you do not you think you learn what the
4:52 teacher taught you but when the test
4:53 comes around you don't know how to solve
4:56 even a single problem that is the first
4:59 and most common way of lying to yourself
5:01 or another way is you pretend to work
5:03 hard you say that you're going out to go
5:06 study for your friends but in reality
5:07 you're spending more than half of the
5:09 time gossiping you tell yourself that
5:11 you're going to study everything in this
5:12 unit the night before the exam because
5:14 that is the most productive but in
5:16 reality you do not and you end up
5:18 getting more stressed and failing the
5:21 exam you are your worst enemy so stop
5:23 lying to yourself although it may be
5:25 much harder to actually ask the
5:27 questions and learn the content instead
5:28 of just tricking yourself into believing
5:30 that you already know it trust me it
5:33 will be worth it so if you have overcome
5:35 those three struggles now it is time to
5:37 study but you will only be wasting time
5:39 if you study the wrong way which is
5:41 studying hard instead of studying smart
5:43 so here are the best study methods you
5:51 way number one is active recall this is
5:53 an overall study mindset but it has so
5:55 many uses that have helped me in all of
5:57 the classes that I have taken there are
5:59 some specific ways that I personally use
6:01 use active recall and I will share them
6:04 with you but first what is active recall
6:06 it is basically when you test yourself
6:08 the information and force yourself to
6:10 draw the information from memory this is
6:11 different from reading through the
6:13 textbook or reading through your notes
6:15 hoping that they will stick instead you
6:17 try to remember your notes from memory
6:19 or test yourself with practice problems
6:21 the most helpful way of using active
6:24 recall for me was creating my own study
6:27 guides so let me show you what I
6:30 mean okay so here is my hand study guide
6:32 that I made for AP stats it is five
6:34 pages and as you can see every single
6:37 page is handwritten with formulas graphs
6:38 facts and information that I need to
6:41 remember and this is not just for stem
6:44 classes I also did this for apgov apus
6:46 history and so much more I like to make
6:47 them pretty and color coordinated
6:49 because that just makes me more
6:51 motivated and I include vocabulary
6:53 transformation graphs like these and so
6:55 much more this is so helpful when
6:56 studying because you have to learn how
6:58 to be concise and find the most
7:00 important information
7:01 that is certain to show up and that you
7:03 must remember and then you write those
7:05 down like for example what everyone
7:07 knows about stats is socks shape outlier
7:10 Center and spread here I have shape Left
7:12 Right skewed symmetric normal uniform
7:14 and Etc and I just wrote them as simple
7:16 words so that they're easy to look at
7:17 and once I look at it I know that I will
7:20 remember okay so this is helpful in two
7:22 ways because first you get to use active
7:24 recall and test your knowledge when you
7:26 were first creating this study guide
7:28 then during tests and finals you have
7:29 all the information you need in one
7:31 place so you don't have to go back and
7:33 dig through your textbook or your notes
7:35 to try and find all the important
7:37 information that you need to memorize
7:39 and if you want this study guide for AP
7:41 stats and many more for other subjects
7:44 like AP Physics APUSH AP Computer
7:46 Science Etc you can also find them on my
7:49 Beacon's AI page next to my study guide
7:51 okay another very helpful way to use
7:54 active recall is to use flash cards I
7:56 think this is the best only for
7:58 memorization for example if you need to
8:00 memorize the periodic table for
8:02 chemistry or new vocabulary for a
8:05 foreign language flashcards are the best
8:07 and the trick in using flashcards is
8:09 that you have to make them on your own I
8:10 like to handr write my flashcards
8:12 because they help you memorize while you
8:15 write them but Quizlet is also a very
8:17 great and convenient tool and finally is
8:19 to teach the content to someone else
8:21 teaching the content ensures that you
8:23 have a complete understanding of the
8:25 material and the concepts because in
8:27 order to teach it and explain it you
8:28 have to be able to know everything
8:31 inside and out I don't like to waste and
8:33 use up someone else's time so instead I
8:35 like to pretend that I'm teaching myself
8:37 and lecture myself the content I will
8:38 pretend that I'm giving a lesson to
8:41 myself and review the content out loud
8:42 for history I would even write out
8:45 stories from memory as a way to study
8:47 and review the content okay the next
8:50 study method is to ask questions it is
8:52 not embarrassing to ask questions you
8:55 must ask questions if you want to learn
8:56 if there is something that you don't
8:58 understand ask ask the teacher ask your
9:01 classmate ask the internet you will
9:03 hinder your learning so much if you
9:05 never ask and just either assume that it
9:07 won't show up on tests or never bother
9:09 to figure it out for most subjects the
9:11 knowledge actually Builds on top of each
9:13 other so you have to figure out previous
9:15 units if you want to succeed in the
9:17 future also you should ask questions
9:19 because other students are likely to
9:22 have similar questions too so you are
9:23 helping yourself and others when you
9:26 choose to ask the question okay the next
9:28 study method and one of my favorites is
9:31 to do practice exams this was the most
9:33 helpful to me when I was doing APS the
9:36 SAT the US national chemistry Olympiad
9:39 exam and so much more practice exams is
9:41 where you learn how to manage your time
9:43 also where you learn the test writer's
9:45 way of thinking and where you learn the
9:48 question format if you never do practice
9:50 exams you are basically walking into the
9:53 test blind get used to the test format
9:55 so you know what you are expecting also
9:57 practice exams is where you get a feel
9:58 of how much time you have so you won't
10:00 be rushing in the early questions and
10:02 having too much time or also rushing in
10:05 the end and not having enough time do as
10:07 many practice exams as you can for the
10:09 SAT I know there are a lot on Con
10:11 Academy which is what I used for AP
10:14 exams they have passed frq questions on
10:16 college board and you can also get
10:18 practice books like Princeton Review or
10:20 Baron and of course there are also lots
10:23 of free materials online for you to use
10:26 so on the topic of exams let's move on
10:33 not to brag but I am a test taking Pro I
10:35 scored in like the mid 1500s on all my
10:38 SAT practice exams and in my first try
10:41 for the actual exam I got a 1580 without
10:43 much studying I somehow made it to the
10:45 finals national round of the US national
10:48 chemistry Olympiad exam in one try
10:50 whether it was the SAT AP exams or
10:53 school finals I always performed better
10:55 on the actual exam than in my practice
10:58 and mock exams so why because I am a
11:00 test taker and I know exactly what it
11:03 takes to perform well on exams even when
11:05 you are stressed or not fully prepared
11:08 so how do you do it first know what will
11:10 show up on the exam and more importantly
11:12 what won't not everything will show up
11:15 on the exam you have to focus on what
11:16 the teacher emphasizes and what they
11:19 don't to know what will show up on exams
11:21 also make sure you use the internet to
11:22 help you figure out what will show up on
11:26 standardized exams like APS and the SAT
11:28 the first step to doing well on exams is
11:30 to know what you are facing and to focus
11:32 your studying you don't want to study
11:33 for things that won't show up on the
11:35 exam but you also don't want to miss
11:37 studying for things that will end up
11:39 showing up everything you need to know
11:41 is available for you and you just have
11:43 to know how to look for it I have more
11:45 specifics in figuring out exactly what
11:47 will and won't be tested in my study
11:50 guide in chapter six on how to Ace every
11:52 single test okay the next test taking
11:55 strategy is how to guess effectively
11:57 guessing takes some strategy so first
11:59 let's look at the last resort if you
12:01 really have no idea and don't know what
12:03 to choose then pick a letter of the day
12:05 before the test and stick to it don't
12:07 guess randomly and pick a new letter for
12:09 every question that you don't know it is
12:11 so much more likely to get the right
12:13 answer if for example let's say you pick
12:15 a as the letter of your day then for
12:16 every question you don't know you stick
12:19 to a and consistently pick a however
12:22 even if you have the slightest idea on
12:23 the question you should not guess
12:26 blindly so first use the process of
12:28 elimination what answer is definitely
12:30 wrong eliminate that and then pick from
12:32 the rest also if you have multiple
12:34 choice and the answers are something
12:36 like yes yes yes no with explanations
12:38 after you can immediately eliminate the
12:40 no because that is usually wrong and
12:42 this is the same for math problems if
12:44 you have several answer choices and one
12:46 of them is an outlier then you can
12:48 usually eliminate that one try to always
12:51 avoid blindly guessing if you can but if
12:53 you must be smart about it okay so now
12:55 it's the night before the big exam what
12:57 should you do first is to get a good
13:00 night's rest do not not underestimate
13:02 the importance of sleep sleep is so
13:05 important and I do not mean just getting
13:07 enough hours I also mean sleeping early
13:09 and waking up early your brain needs
13:11 time to repair and the best time to do
13:14 that is early in the night to midnight
13:16 so go to sleep early even if that means
13:17 waking up a little earlier to study some
13:20 more you need good rest to stay alert
13:23 and awake during the exam and you likely
13:25 won't retain any more information that
13:27 you don't already know the night before
13:29 the exam so put away the study materi
13:31 material and sleep well next is to
13:34 review but not just any review stop
13:35 trying to do practice problems and
13:38 remember nitty-gritty facts instead you
13:40 should review the big picture get big
13:42 ideas and memorize important facts right
13:45 now is not the time to Jumble your brain
13:47 so study important ideas watch recap
13:49 videos on YouTube look through your
13:51 study guide and then get some rest now
13:53 it's a few hours before your exam and
13:55 you need to eat a breakfast or lunch so
13:57 what should you eat and this may not
13:59 seem important to you but trust me it
14:01 makes a difference don't eat too much
14:03 sugar or carbs because that will make
14:05 you feel sluggish and tired during the
14:08 exam I never like to eat too much before
14:10 a test I like to eat something light and
14:12 maybe some protein also make sure that
14:14 you drink some water but not too much so
14:16 you're not thirsty during the exam but
14:18 you also don't want to use the restroom
14:20 okay and finally let's finish off this
14:22 video with what may be the most
14:28 mindset your thoughts and mentality
14:30 deter your success so here are some
14:32 important mindset shifts that you should
14:35 make first is to believe that you can be
14:37 an academic weapon you can be anything
14:39 that you want if you keep thinking that
14:41 you're dumb and you just can't learn it
14:43 guess what it's going to be true stop
14:45 using yourself as an excuse and start
14:48 believing in yourself you must believe
14:50 that you are an academic weapon and that
14:51 you can learn anything that you set your
14:54 mind to not only will this also make you
14:56 more motivated to actually figure it out
14:58 but with time you will actually believe
15:00 yourself and and it will become true
15:02 when you create this new identity for
15:03 yourself you will also start to take
15:06 actions that align with this identity so
15:08 you will feel more motivated to study
15:10 and also study more productively and
15:16 motivation you might need motivation to
15:18 get started and keep going from time to
15:20 time so save this video and watch this
15:22 part for when you don't feel like
15:25 studying because now is the best time to
15:27 learn you are young and your brain is at
15:29 the most powerful it will ever be in
15:32 your life later on if you want to learn
15:34 something new it will likely be a lot
15:36 harder than trying to learn it now and
15:38 your grades do matter I once thought
15:40 that they don't matter as well I thought
15:42 that my grades don't Define me and I
15:44 don't care about them but guess what
15:46 they do Define a part of you they can
15:48 show your perseverance your intelligence
15:50 your discipline your open-mindedness and
15:52 so much more but on the other hand they
15:54 can also reflect your laziness your
15:57 unwillingness to learn or your bad time
15:59 management skills but it's never too
16:02 late to fix that in the end no one can
16:04 motivate you but yourself no one can
16:07 change you but yourself so frankly I
16:10 have no way to inherently motivate you
16:11 and just by watching this video to the
16:14 end I know that you are motivated and
16:16 you want change and I am so proud of you
16:18 for that there are so many beautiful
16:20 possibilities in life and now is the
16:24 time to go after them so start now and
16:26 that is the end of today's video if you
16:28 have watched all the way here comment
16:30 study gu in the comments down below so I
16:32 know that you are still here and that
16:34 you are well on your way to becoming an
16:36 academic weapon there are so many more
16:39 Amazing tips and tricks and details that
16:41 I have but there's just too much for me
16:43 to put all into this one video and they
16:45 are all available in the ultimate
16:46 academic weapon study guide in the
16:49 beacon AI page linked in the description
16:51 below it literally took me several
16:53 hundred hours to think of outline and
16:56 put together and I really hope that it
16:58 will be helpful to you my goal is to
17:00 motivate more students to study and also
17:02 show them that studying does not have to
17:05 be painful or hard instead it is a
17:07 beautiful thing that opens so many doors
17:10 for you and can be so easy and enjoyable
17:12 so if that sounds appealing to you
17:14 definitely check out my study guide and
17:15 don't forget to subscribe for more
17:18 videos like this weekly and also follow
