0:02 Imagine this, working remotely from a
0:04 cozy cafe in Aleante, then taking a
0:06 sunset stroll on the beach, all without
0:09 overstaying your tourist visa. Well,
0:11 Spain finally made that dream a reality.
0:14 Back in 2023, they launched what you
0:16 call a digital nomad visa. Something I
0:18 wish existed when I moved to Europe in
0:21 2021, but now you can do it the right
0:23 way. If you're a remote worker craving
0:26 sangria, sunshine, and siestas, then
0:28 this one's for you. In this video, I
0:30 will be going through frequently asked
0:33 questions about this visa and provide
0:35 answers coming from an immigration
0:37 lawyer so you don't have to. So yeah,
0:52 started. First things first, what is the
0:56 Spain digital nomad visa? It's a visa
0:57 designed for remote workers and
1:00 freelancers who work for non-spe
1:02 companies. Spain created it under their
1:04 startup act to bring in international
1:07 talent. Translation: You get to live in
1:10 Spain while earning from abroad. Next,
1:13 who can apply? You qualify if you work
1:16 remotely for a non-sp company or
1:18 freelance with mostly international
1:21 clients. You also qualify if you earn
1:23 around 2,700
1:26 to€3,500 per month and if you're not an
1:28 EU or EA
1:31 citizen. Next, do you need a job or can
1:33 you be self-employed or freelance? Yes,
1:35 both employees of foreign companies and
1:37 freelancers working for international
1:39 clients can
1:42 apply. Question number four, what are
1:45 the income requirements? So, Spain wants
1:47 to see that you can support yourself.
1:50 The magic number is around €3,500 per
1:52 month for the main applicant, more if
1:55 you're bringing family. When you search
1:57 online, the amount is typically lower, around
1:58 around
2:01 €2,700. But as per my lawyer, it varies
2:03 depending on which city you want to stay
2:06 at. If you choose Barcelona or Madrid,
2:08 for instance, then it's going to have a
2:09 higher income requirement because of
2:11 higher cost of
2:14 living. Question number five, can you
2:17 bring family? Yes, your spouse and kids
2:20 can come, but remember more people means
2:23 um more required income and insurance.
2:26 Question number six, can you work with
2:29 Spanish clients? Yes, but take note that
2:31 only 20% of your income can come from
2:33 Spanish companies or clients and the
2:36 rest needs to be from abroad. Question
2:38 number seven, what are the requirements?
2:40 So, here's what you'll need. A valid
2:43 passport, of course. Proof of income
2:45 like contracts, invoices, bank
2:47 statements, etc. A clean criminal
2:50 record, private health insurance by an
2:52 insurance company accredited in Spain, a
2:54 university degree or more than 3 years
2:56 of work experience, and a minimum 3
2:59 months of remote work history. Question
3:02 number eight, what about visa duration?
3:04 If you're applying from Spain, you get a
3:06 one-year permit, renewable up to 5
3:09 years. If you're applying from abroad,
3:11 you'll start with a one-year visa, then
3:14 switch to a residency permit or the TA
3:16 once you're in Spain. Question number
3:19 nine, do you have to pay taxes? Unless
3:21 you only wanted to work remotely from
3:23 Spain for less than 6 months, you would
3:26 inevitably become a tax resident, as
3:29 renewing um the digital nomad visa
3:30 requires you to live in the country for
3:34 a minimum of 183 days a year. Once in
3:35 Spain, you'll need to register as
3:38 autonom or what they call freelancer or
3:40 self-employed. And that means you'll
3:44 enjoy a lower tax rate. It's 15% for the
3:46 first 2 years. You'll pay into social
3:49 security or cigured social. And once you
3:51 start doing that, you'll get access to
3:54 public healthare. Question number 10,
3:56 how to apply? You can apply from a
3:59 consulate abroad or from within Spain,
4:01 even on a tourist visa. Just prepare for
4:04 Spanish timelines and hire a lawyer if
4:06 you can. I highly recommend it. Applying
4:09 in Spain is through the UG or Unida de Grandes
4:10 Grandes
4:12 impress. Question 11. How long does it
4:15 take to get approved? In country
4:17 applications or if you apply in Spain,
4:20 it may take 20 business days or more.
4:22 Consular processing can take longer,
4:25 around 30 to 45 days. Question number
4:27 12. What happens if you lose your remote
4:29 job? If this happens, you've got a one
4:32 month grace period to find new remote
4:34 work. If not, your visa could be
4:36 revoked. Also, you've got to keep
4:38 contributing to Seagura Dad Social
4:40 Monthly. Question number 13. Can you
4:42 apply for Spanish citizenship after
4:45 living in Spain for 2 years on a digital
4:48 nomad visa? Yes. Citizens of Ibero
4:50 American countries, Andor, the
4:52 Philippines, and Portugal can apply for
4:54 citizenship after only two years
4:57 benefiting from a fasttrack option.
5:00 Question number 14, can I travel to
5:02 other Shenhen countries under this visa?
5:04 Yes, you can travel freely within the
5:07 Shenhen area. Question number 15, how
5:10 much does this visa cost? The total cost
5:12 can vary depending on how and where you
5:14 apply, but here's a breakdown of the
5:17 main expenses to expect. Visa
5:19 application fee if applying from abroad.
5:22 It's somewhere between 80 to€100
5:24 depending on your nationality and the
5:26 consulate. Visa application fee if
5:30 applying within Spain, it's €73 if you
5:31 apply directly from Spain through the
5:35 Unida de Grandes Empressas or UG. Lawyer
5:38 or visa assistance, optional but highly
5:40 recommended. Expect to pay around 400
5:44 to€600 plus 21% EVA or tax if you use a
5:46 professional immigration lawyer or
5:50 service. your teta
5:54 ident. It cost €22. This is your
5:56 official foreigner ID card issued once
5:58 you're approved and living in Spain.
6:01 Other common expenses um apostal and
6:04 document translation cost can vary
6:06 depending on the number of documents
6:08 private health insurance required for
6:10 your application and typically ranges
6:14 from €500 to €1,200 per year depending
6:17 on your age and coverage and criminal
6:19 background check. The price depends on
6:22 your home country. And lastly, what
6:24 happens after you get the visa?
6:26 After you get the visa and you're in
6:28 Spain, you register your home address in
6:30 Spain. This is necessary for obtaining
6:33 your residency card or TA and accessing
6:36 public services. After that, you apply
6:39 for your residency card or the tera de
6:42 identero. Once you have your TA card,
6:44 you can now open a Spanish bank account.
6:46 After that, you'd register yourself as
6:48 an autonom or a self-employed or
6:51 freelancer and then register with Sigura
6:52 Social, which will then give you access
6:55 to public healthare. Your local health
6:58 clinic will depend on your home address.
7:00 So, there you have it. Spain's digital
7:02 nomad visa could be your ticket to
7:04 living the Mediterranean dream without
7:07 burning through your 90day shenan limit.
7:09 Whether it's the beaches of Anducia or
7:12 the hustle of Madrid, you can live,
7:15 work, and thrive here. And that's it. If
