0:02 Hello, my name is Simona and I'm from
0:04 Spain. Please like and subscribe.
0:07 Growing up, what I hated most was when
0:09 my parents argued and yelled at each
0:11 other. And it happened a lot. But there
0:13 were some moments [music] when we'd all
0:15 laughed together. Like when I turned
0:17 three, dad came home with the biggest
0:19 unicorn doll for me. [music] And mom
0:22 baked my favorite vanilla cake. It was
0:25 the happiest day of my life. Simona,
0:26 you're the best thing that's ever
0:29 happened. When you were born, our world
0:31 changed. Yes, darling. [music]
0:34 You mean everything to us. Mom worked as
0:36 a secretary at a big insurance company
0:38 and dad worked at a local store. So, we
0:40 lived a pretty average life. But then
0:43 one day when I was four, mom came home
0:45 driving her boss's expensive [music] car
0:48 and told dad that she was leaving him.
0:51 Please don't go, Mom. I love you. Oh, my
0:54 baby. I tell you what, you will visit
0:56 [music] me at my new house every
0:59 weekend. I watched mom pack her bags and
1:02 drive away. And dad was so sad. He told
1:04 me that he and mom were now separated.
1:07 Months later, he took me to visit her at
1:09 her new fancy house and she was sitting
1:11 with her boss carrying a new baby.
1:14 Simona, I'd like you to meet your baby
1:17 sister, Louisa. Louisa was the luckiest
1:19 little baby because her dad bought her
1:22 all the toys in the world. I liked going
1:23 to their mansion and [music] mom would
1:26 be so happy every time I visited. But
1:28 soon Louisa started crying so hard for
1:30 mom's attention that it became difficult
1:33 for us to spend any time together. Once
1:34 [music] when I was five and Louisa was a
1:37 toddler, mom took us to the zoo and
1:39 bought us both candy. But Louisa threw
1:41 hers into the baboon cage and then she
1:43 started crying hysterically for more.
1:46 She even started pulling mom's hair and
1:48 I gave her my candy so she'd calm down
1:51 and give mom a break. Oh, Simona, thank
1:53 you so much. You've always been such
1:55 [music] an understanding child. I hope
1:57 your sister grows up to be just like you.
1:58 you.
2:00 >> Thanks, Mom. I just want you to be
2:03 happy. Since Mom had left, Dad always
2:05 tried to hide his sadness and make me
2:06 laugh with his jokes and [music]
2:09 dramatic bedtime stories. And I tried my
2:11 best to always make him proud and happy,
2:14 too. Once in second grade, Dad came to
2:16 my school for a parent teacher meeting.
2:18 And my teacher, Esmeralda, told him all
2:20 sorts of nice things about me since I
2:22 was [music] the top student in her
2:24 class. Wow, I'm so proud of you,
2:28 darling. You should be. Simona is a very
2:29 special little girl. [music] Right after
2:32 the meeting, Dad invited Esmeralda to
2:34 come with us for pizza. He looked really
2:36 happy around her, and soon after,
2:38 [music] he started seeing her more
2:40 often. And I didn't mind at all because
2:43 she was very nice to me. Once in fourth
2:45 grade, we went to the ice rink together
2:47 and Esmeralda showed me how to skate.
2:49 Okay, I'm not letting go of your hand
2:52 until you're strong on your feet. I
2:53 think I can skate on [music] my own.
2:56 Look. I let go of her grip and twirled
2:58 around feeling like I was flying.
2:59 [music] And then suddenly, my leg
3:02 twisted and I fell down hard. I felt
3:04 dizzy and I saw Esmeralda running
3:06 towards me [music] as I blacked out. I
3:08 was rushed to the hospital and my leg
3:10 was put through so many scans and then
3:12 bandaged up. Esmeralda couldn't stop
3:16 crying. This is all my fault. I'm so
3:17 sorry, Simona.
3:20 >> No, please don't blame yourself. I
3:22 wanted to skate on my own. Dad hugged
3:24 Esmeralda to make her feel better. And
3:27 just then, Mom barged in with Louisa.
3:29 How could you let this happen? She
3:31 started yelling at Dad, and they both
3:32 got into a big [music] argument,
3:35 forgetting all about me. Guys, guys,
3:38 stop. Everyone looked at me and then
3:40 Louisa came closer to my bed looking
3:43 angry. I had a big concert today and I
3:45 was the lead, but now I'm here because
3:48 mom was worried about you. You ruined my
3:51 concert. Louisa, you can't speak to your
3:53 sister like that. [music] She just got
3:55 injured. Louisa pulled an ugly face at
3:57 me and just then the doctor walked in
4:00 with some bad news. He told [music] my
4:02 parents that my leg would never be
4:04 normal again. I walked with a limp and
4:06 at school [music] I couldn't participate
4:09 in any sports. But I still remained the
4:11 top student [music] in the class and
4:13 everyone was so nice to me since I'd
4:15 never had trouble making friends and I
4:17 always helped them with their homework.
4:19 One day when I was in seventh grade,
4:21 Esmeralda watched how I helped some kids
4:23 understand a math equation and she was
4:26 so impressed. Simona, you would make a
4:28 really good teacher one [music] day.
4:30 Yes, I would love to be a teacher one
4:33 day, just like you, Esmeralda. Esmeralda
4:35 really cared about me. And when I was in
4:37 8th grade, [music] Dad told me that he
4:40 wanted to marry her. I was so happy for
4:42 them. Dad even invited mom and her
4:44 family. This was his way of finally
4:47 making peace. Just before the event
4:49 started, [music] I found Louisa standing
4:51 and glaring at the big wedding cake.
4:54 What are you doing here alone? Whatever
4:57 I want. This cake looks so delicious.
5:01 Yes, it is. But don't stand too close.
5:03 We don't want any accidents. She smirked
5:05 at [music] me and then suddenly she
5:07 stuck her finger out and scooped the
5:10 frosting off the cake. Hey, you can't do
5:12 that. But she just laughed and reached
5:15 for the cake again. I ran forward to
5:17 pull her away. As she tried to push me
5:19 off, we both started wrestling and
5:22 crashed straight into the cake. Just
5:24 then, Mom and Dad appeared, looking
5:25 speechless. [music]
5:28 What have you girls done? It wasn't me,
5:30 Dad. Honest. Mom [music] surprised me
5:33 when she yelled at Louisa. I'm so tired
5:35 of your behavior, Louisa. Your father
5:38 has spoiled you so much that everywhere
5:40 you go, you ruin things. Simona was such
5:43 a good child compared to you. Well,
5:45 maybe I should tell dad to send you back
5:47 to your poor family. Both Dad and I were
5:50 so shocked at the way Louisa spoke to
5:52 mom. And after the wedding, when I
5:53 visited mom again, I noticed [music]
5:56 that Louisa was awful to mom all the
5:59 time and bossed her around because her
6:02 dad gave her the power to do so. Mom, my
6:04 Prada jacket still has a stain. Get it
6:07 [music] cleaned right now. I need it for
6:10 school. Okay, dear. Why are you so mean
6:12 to mom? Because she never does anything
6:15 right. And if she doesn't listen, my dad
6:18 will kick her out. She's our mom. Don't
6:20 you love her? Well, she loves you more,
6:23 so I guess I love my dad more. When I
6:25 tried to talk to mom about what was
6:27 going on in her life, she told me not to
6:29 worry and said she could handle it.
6:30 There [music] wasn't much I could do to
6:33 help her. One day in 10th grade, I was
6:35 studying in the school library when a
6:36 boy came [music] out and sat on the
6:39 table opposite to me. I knew exactly who
6:42 he was, Jared. He was one of the hot
6:45 popular guys at school and was reading
6:47 one of my all-time favorite books.
6:49 [music] My eyes kept wandering to him
6:51 now and then, and I tried not to make it
6:54 too obvious, but he was just so
6:57 gorgeous. And while I sat zoned out in
6:59 my fantasy, he suddenly started waving
7:03 in my face. Hey, are you okay? Oh, I'm
7:06 sorry. I wasn't staring. I was actually,
7:09 um, it's okay. I'm used to it. That's
7:10 why I sometimes come in here to hide
7:13 away from the girls coming after me. My
7:14 parents wanted me to be a model because
7:18 of all the attention I get. Yes. Um,
7:20 you're very good-looking. Modeling would
7:23 suit you. I actually like books and
7:25 reading. I don't like being in the
7:28 spotlight. I was so surprised because I
7:30 always saw him surrounded by girls. I
7:33 was never after him because he was way
7:35 out of my league. But after meeting him
7:37 in the library, we actually became good
7:39 friends because we had so much in
7:41 common. One day, he [music] asked if I'd
7:43 like to see the latest Star Wars movie
7:44 with him. And I was so excited that
7:47 another kid in school liked that kind of
7:48 stuff. We even dressed up like the
7:51 [music] characters and had the time of
7:54 our lives. I'm so happy to finally have
7:56 a Star Wars partner. Me, too. You're
7:58 such a cool person to hang out with. He
8:00 looked deep into my eyes and then he
8:03 leaned over and kissed me. I was so
8:05 shocked because it all felt like a
8:08 dream. And then I looked down at my leg
8:10 and started doubting myself and
8:13 wondering if any of this was real. Hey,
8:16 what's wrong, Jared? You're like the
8:18 hottest guy on this planet, and there's
8:20 so many pretty girls without any issues
8:23 like mine. So, why me? There's nothing
8:25 wrong with you, Simona. You're perfect.
8:28 Jared liked me just [music] as I was,
8:30 and I learned to love myself with my
8:33 brokenness. [music] Life at school felt
8:35 great until one day, mom called me with
8:38 some surprising news. Honey, Louisa will
8:40 be joining your school. She got expelled
8:42 from her fancy private school because
8:45 she was bullying kids. But mom, she
8:47 won't fit in at [music] my school. No
8:49 other school will accept her. Please
8:51 look out for her and show her around.
8:53 Maybe she can learn something from you.
8:56 The next day, Louisa walked into my
8:58 school wearing a white fluffy coat and
9:01 black shades. Just as she approached me,
9:03 a group of girls snuck up behind her and
9:06 spray painted her coat. What is wrong
9:08 with you fools? This is Dolce and
9:12 Gabbana. Oh my gosh, you ruined it. The
9:14 girls went ballistic and lifted her off
9:18 her feet. What did you call us? Put me
9:20 down. When I told the girls that she was
9:22 my sister, they let her go. What is
9:25 wrong with the people in your school?
9:28 This is not one of your fancy schools.
9:30 And all the newbies get spray painted.
9:33 It's tradition. That's why I hated the
9:35 idea of a public school. Poor people
9:39 have no class. Gh. She was such a snob.
9:41 While I was showing Louisa around, we
9:43 bumped into Jared and he kissed me
9:46 before running off to class. Louisa
9:49 looked at me stunned. Oh my god, how did
9:51 the hottest guy in school end up with
9:54 you? Why? What's wrong with me?
9:56 Everything. You're boring. You dress
9:58 like a granny. And you have a broken
10:00 leg. You're just a very ugly person
10:03 inside and out. Louisa, I'm going to
10:05 steal him [music] from you. Watch and
10:08 see. I wasn't threatened by my stupid
10:09 sister. [music]
10:10 After school, when Jared walked me out
10:13 to the gate, Louisa ran after us and
10:14 [music] slipped her number into his
10:17 pocket. Before I could say anything,
10:19 Jared spoke [music] up. Louisa, what's
10:21 wrong with you? I'm with your sister and
10:23 I'm crazy about her. Please, just
10:25 [music] stay away from me. I smiled
10:28 widely as Louisa turned red. And just
10:30 then, Esmeralda came to pick me up. We
10:32 had to wait till mom came for Louisa and
10:34 she yelled on the phone at mom for being
10:37 late. Hey, you can't speak to your mom
10:40 that way. Mind your own business, lady.
10:43 You are not my stepmother. Louisa was
10:46 just out of control. I decided I was
10:48 done with her. [music] I completely
10:50 ignored her for the next day at school.
10:52 And during recess, she insulted some
10:55 girls by calling them poor. And they all
10:57 surrounded her. But I didn't [music] run
10:59 to her rescue. Hey, aren't those girls
11:02 hurting your sister? Yes, but she can't
11:04 control her awful mouth. Whatever
11:07 happens to her, she deserves it. Yeah,
11:09 but she's still your sister. Jared
11:12 always had a way to make me think twice.
11:14 So, I stepped into the circle of girls
11:17 and found my sister crying. Simona,
11:20 please tell them to bring back my bag.
11:22 Not until you promise to change your
11:24 ways, especially how you [music] speak
11:27 to mom. I promise. Please, please save
11:29 me from these mean girls. It's not
11:31 [music] so nice when it's done to you,
11:33 right? I told the girls to leave my
11:35 sister alone. And then [music] she
11:37 joined me and Jared for lunch. And to my
11:39 shock, she actually apologized [music]
11:42 for being a jerk. I'm really sorry,
11:44 Simona. I've always been mean to you and
11:46 mom because I always felt she loved you
11:48 more. But today, when those girls were
11:50 mean to me, I felt what it was like to
11:53 be the weak one. I've hurt so many
11:55 people already. Well, it's never too
11:57 late to change. Later that day, when my
11:59 stepmom and [music] mom came to pick us
12:02 up, Louisa apologized to both of them,
12:04 too. And then, Esmeralda told us some
12:08 thrilling news. She was pregnant. Oh my
12:10 god. What? I'm going to be a big sister
12:12 again. That baby's lucky to have you,
12:15 Simona. And [music] you, Louisa, will be
