0:03 so when I was around 14 years old I was
0:07 trying really hard to fit in and be cool
0:09 I remember I had a group of friends that
0:12 I'd always get into trouble with we were
0:13 always up to no good
0:15 back in London where I was born and
0:17 raised you can get your driving license
0:21 by 17 but me and these two other guys
0:24 decided to steal his mum's car for a
0:27 joyride our parents were all at a
0:28 wedding together
0:30 one of my friends stole the spare set of
0:33 keys from his mum's purse and all three
0:35 of us got into the car and he started
0:40 driving I was so anxious and nervous
0:42 but I wanted to see him confident and
0:44 calm because I wanted to impress my
0:46 friends I wanted to tell us to stop and
0:49 get out but I joined in with the
0:51 adrenaline and excitement that came over
0:54 us three we were playing loud music I
0:56 think it was still Dre featuring Snoop
0:58 Dogg we turned the windows down were
1:00 nodding our heads to the B and thinking
1:03 we were so cool we were driving pretty
1:05 fast and then faster and faster and
1:08 faster and then we saw a guy we knew
1:10 walking down the street my friend who
1:12 was driving always bullied him and so he
1:15 started shouting out mean things to him
1:17 turning back to his window to do so
1:20 literally within seconds he'd lost
1:22 control of the car and we went straight
1:25 into another car it was a miracle
1:30 because none of us were hurt the car was
1:32 completely destroyed a couple of moments
1:36 later we saw our parents coming out of
1:40 this event hall we had crashed the car
1:43 right outside of the wedding our parents
1:46 were attending not only that how came
1:48 the owner of the car we had crashed into
1:51 which was parked outside his house there
1:54 was a huge crowd gathering our parents
1:55 were speaking to the owner of the other
1:58 car trying to explain the situation and
2:00 figure it out our family members and
2:03 friends were shaking their heads at us
2:07 looking at us really disappointed I felt
2:11 so stupid and like an idiot I learned
2:13 three really important lessons for
2:16 that experience the first one is our
2:20 actions affect other people we often
2:22 feel that our actions only affect us but
2:25 the truth is it affects a lot more
2:28 people we were so fortunate that no one
2:30 was in the car we crashed into we were
2:32 so fortunate that there wasn't a child
2:35 crossing the street but we still hurt
2:38 our parents we heard the person who had
2:40 the damaged car the second lesson I
2:42 learned is that we become an average of
2:45 the five people we spend most time with
2:47 at that time I chose to us around myself
2:50 by people I thought were cool and
2:52 troublemakers even when I felt
2:54 uncomfortable or nervous or anxious I
2:57 would hide that because I felt it made
3:01 me weak or soft your intuition and your
3:05 gut is always trying to guide you if you
3:07 have a voice in your head telling you
3:10 something is not good all right listen
3:13 to it more and lesson number three the
3:15 things we think are fun exciting and
3:18 dangerous in our teens are rarely the
3:20 things we look back on as being proud of
3:23 we can use our positive energy when
3:24 we're young for so much good in the
3:26 world to make such a difference to our
3:29 skills talents and hobbies don't waste
3:31 your potential trying to impress people
3:36 stand out by being yourself don't try to
3:39 fit in by giving up who you truly are
