0:04 welcome back everyone for today's video
0:05 we are going to be taking a look at the
0:07 second round here of the FED candidates
0:09 Tournament being held in Toronto Canada
0:11 now in the second round I was playing
0:13 with the white piece against V Santos
0:15 gujarathi from India one of the players
0:17 who qualified alongside myself in the
0:19 grand Swiss in Isle of Man so without
0:21 further Ado let's jump right into the
0:24 action so the game starts with E4 V
0:27 plays E5 Knight F3 Knight C6 Bishop to
0:30 B5 and now we get the move Knight to F6
0:33 now this of course is the classic Berlin
0:34 defense which has been played a lot
0:36 prominently by the former World chess
0:38 champion Vladimir KCK when he defeated
0:39 the greatest player I was about to say
0:41 the greatest player of all time but one
0:42 of the greatest players of all time Gary
0:46 kaspar in the match in I believe 2000 so
0:48 Berlin defense has been a top level top
0:49 level opening for the last 20 years
0:51 played by many great players including
0:53 myself so it's not really a huge
0:55 surprise so here I decided to play the
0:57 move D3 now of course in many games
0:59 between myself and Wesley so in the past
1:01 we have actually played a force draw
1:04 with castles Knight takes E4 D4 Knight
1:07 D6 takes takes A4 Knight D4 swap the
1:11 knights D6 takes takes Queen E4 Queen E6
1:13 Queen D4 Queen D6 with the Game ending
1:15 in a draw now obviously in a tournament
1:16 like the canat you don't want to make
1:18 quick draws of course it's not really a
1:20 huge surprise in the opening either so
1:21 the game
1:24 continues so here I play the move D3 V
1:26 goes Bishop to C5 and now I play the
1:29 move C3 now white could try to Castle
1:30 here but one of the drawbacks is that
1:32 black can play this move Knight to D4
1:35 trying to swap up a pair of horses or
1:37 win this bishop on B5 so for example if
1:39 you move the bishop black can trade the
1:41 knights and play D6 and generally this
1:44 is considered to be very very stable and
1:46 white is not better so that's why in the
1:48 game I play the move C3 stopping the
1:51 knight from jumping to this D4 Square as
1:53 I cover it with the pawn V it plays the
1:55 move castles and now I decide to Castle
1:58 and here V it plays move D6 now this
2:00 move is not a pure surprise V it
2:02 normally plays this move Pawn to D5 but
2:04 after D6 I actually started thinking
2:06 here for a little bit as I simply was
2:08 unsure of which line to play now the two
2:10 moves that I was considering during the
2:13 game were Knight bd2 or this move H3 now
2:15 both moves are playable but at the end
2:17 of the day I decided to play
2:21 H3 so after H3 V it plays Knight to E7 I
2:24 go D4 attacking the bishop on C5 and now
2:26 he plays this move C6 now this already
2:28 was a slight surprise to me normally
2:30 here black moves the bishop back to B6
2:33 but V goes C6 instead now on first
2:34 glance you're probably thinking well
2:36 white can take the bishop black takes a
2:38 bishop you take this Pawn but after
2:39 Knight to G6 even though white is
2:42 temporarily up this Pawn on D6 the pawn
2:44 on e4 is currently under attack and down
2:45 the road let's say I play with like
2:48 Queen to D3 Bishop to D7 here black
2:50 intends Play Moves Like Rook C8 Queen B6
2:52 and Rook C6 and on top of that my
2:55 opponent V guari was already moving very
2:57 very quickly or not already I should say
2:58 still was moving very very quickly at
3:00 this point in the game and this is one
3:01 of the big differences between a
3:03 tournament like the canids and just a
3:05 regular strong top level tournament
3:06 where the players have months to repair
3:08 ahead of time now because of that
3:09 players are going to be very well
3:11 prepared and they're not simply going to
3:14 make a blunder on move eight so C6 is
3:16 played I decided to play the move Bishop
3:18 D3 cuz I trust that V's preparation is
3:20 there and I want to keep the game going
3:22 so here the bishop on D3 guards the pawn
3:25 on e4 from being captured and now V goes
3:27 Bishop B6 now again this is all very
3:30 very surprising to me because as board
3:32 you'll notice that I had an hour 41 on
3:34 the clock and I used over 20 minutes
3:37 before deciding to take this Pawn on E5
3:38 now it's was a very very tough decision
3:40 for me here because there were a couple
3:41 things going through my mind first of
3:43 all I can go for the principal approach
3:44 like I did in the game with capturing
3:46 the pawn but I can also be very solid
3:48 here with move like Rook to E1 Knight G6
3:51 Knight B D2 let's say black was Rook E8
3:52 and now I can play something like Knight
3:55 F1 or Bishop C2 now objectively white is
3:57 not better here but you keep all the
3:59 pieces on the board and this remains a
4:01 very very slow very very positional game
4:03 similar to what we get in the classic Gucci
4:04 Gucci
4:07 piano but after using a lot of time here
4:08 I decided to go for the principal
4:10 approach by taking the pawn on E5 taking
4:13 on E5 and now V it played Bishop H3 now
4:15 after Bishop to H3 I played this move
4:17 Knight C4 this was a start of I don't
4:19 want to really use it to say copium
4:21 where I'm trying to like make excuses
4:23 for like not finding moves but this was
4:25 a start of many decisions I made in this
4:27 game where I looked at one line and then
4:29 for whatever reason I made a completely
4:31 different decision during the game now
4:32 the reason I say that is because I used
4:34 20 minutes before going for this
4:36 variation and I actually expected Bishop
4:38 takes H3 now originally I was going to
4:40 take and after Queen B8 I thought that
4:42 there's this move Bishop to F4 guarding
4:44 the Knight if I move my knight away for
4:46 example black is actually better after
4:48 this move Queen G3 checking the King on
4:51 G1 King H1 takes and after Knight H2
4:52 Rook d8 maybe Black's not even better
4:54 maybe Black's actually just outright
4:56 winning here but at any rate it's not
4:59 good for white so when I was calculating
5:01 this whole Knight takes E5 line I saw
5:03 this position with Queen B8 and I knew
5:04 that in this position I could go Bishop
5:07 to F4 and after Bishop C7 here there
5:08 were a couple options I could play
5:10 Bishop G3 where the computer actually
5:12 gives white a very small Advantage after
5:16 takes F4 Bishop C7 and queen to F3 since
5:18 white has the two BS and a little bit of
5:20 space in the center with the pawns on e4
5:22 and F4 now of course V it was very well
5:23 prepared so probably I would not have
5:25 gotten any advantage even if IID played
5:27 this in the game but this was one of the
5:29 interesting possibilities now it's a
5:31 sign of how off sort of my calculation
5:33 everything was I also thought I could
5:35 potentially Play Bishop G5 here CU after
5:37 takes F4 and H6 I thought the game would
5:40 end in a draw with takes takes takes
5:43 Queen G3 King H1 takes King G1 and a
5:45 repetition but the computer actually
5:47 says that after Queen G3 King H1 and
5:49 Rook fd8 black is in fact a little bit
5:51 better here maybe not winning but black
5:55 has everything to play for but in spite
5:57 of calculating these lines while I was
5:59 anticipating D5 takes Knight E5 Bishop
6:01 H3 at the board I decided you know what
6:02 I'm just going to go Knight C4 and get
6:04 the bishop pair and try to keep the game
6:06 going now pretty much as soon as I
6:08 played this move I realized this was not
6:10 the best move because of what V did in
6:12 the game with this move Bishop G4 now
6:14 here I played this move Queen C2 which
6:16 was also by the way not my first choice
6:18 initially I was going to play Bishop E2
6:20 but fortunately in the nick of time I
6:22 spotted that this is actually a blunder
6:24 before playing I thought during the game
6:27 that after the trade takes takes Knight
6:29 takes E4 that I was actually possibly
6:31 win here cuz after takes takes and Rook
6:33 E1 both of these Knights are under
6:35 pressure you move the Knight away I win
6:37 the Knight on E7 and with it I win the
6:39 game if Black Goes F5 there's F3 to
6:42 force the Knight away so I thought for a
6:44 second this was actually very simple for
6:46 me I get to an end game here and I'm
6:48 completely fine but as I realized after
6:51 Knight takes E4 takes takes and Rook E1
6:54 black has a very nasty move Knight to C5
6:56 sacking the horse on E7 but then playing
6:58 this move Knight to D3 attacking the
7:00 rook in the corner in this position
7:02 black I guess is not actually winning
7:04 here computer only gives gives white a
7:06 slightly worse position which actually
7:07 is a little bit disturbing I guess
7:10 there's Rook to E1 takes a knight to A3
7:12 here with a bishop moving to E3 down the
7:14 road and maybe the show goes on but what
7:17 I saw was takes takes and now I lose
7:19 either the Knight on B1 or the bishop on
7:22 C1 so I spotted this in the nick of time
7:23 which meant that I then played the move
7:25 Queen C2 but already the problem with
7:27 this whole with the way the game is
7:29 going is I'm already down a lot of time
7:30 on the clock here I only have an hour
7:32 where're on move number 13 there's no
7:34 increment so I know I have to speed up
7:36 and I know that I've missed quite a bit
7:37 already first of all I didn't play the
7:39 line I intended to with Bishop F4 I
7:41 overlooked this tactic with this Knight
7:43 takes E4 Knight C5 so already here I was
7:46 feeling quite shaky so V goes Bishop C7
7:49 after a very very long think I don't
7:50 even know if this is the best move I was
7:52 actually expecting him to go Knight G6
7:54 and after takes takes computer still
7:56 gives black quite a bit of an advantage
7:58 due to the lack of the development of
8:02 the white pieces on the Queen side so V
8:03 plays Bishop C7 after a long thing and
8:05 in my mind here I'm thinking okay V has
8:07 used all this time to get the time back
8:09 to e or he's used over half an hour time
8:12 is even it's back to playing a game so I
8:14 play E5 very quickly trying to attack
8:16 the Knight on F6 here and win this Pawn
8:20 on H7 V goes Knight D7 I take on H7 he
8:22 plays King h8 and now I play this move
8:24 Bishop to D3 after a long thing now this
8:27 is the second example of where I have a
8:28 thought in my mind and I go for
8:30 something else initially I told myself
8:32 that I was either going to either going
8:33 to look at lives for a couple of minutes
8:36 or Play Bishop D3 right away so what
8:39 happens I end up spending 20 minutes and
8:40 not trusting my instinct now the two
8:42 moves that I considered here were Bishop
8:45 to G5 or this move Queen to E4 now at
8:47 first glance it looks like Queen to E4
8:49 loses the game because after F5
8:50 attacking the queen suddenly the
8:52 coordination between between the queen
8:54 and the bishop is off and the pawn
8:56 guards the bishop on G4 now I do not
8:58 play n peasant with Pawn takes Pawn
8:59 because after Knight takes Pawn Knight
9:01 guards the bishop hits the queen and
9:03 this bishop on H7 at the same time and
9:06 with it I lose the game but there's a
9:08 nice sacrifice with Bishop takes Pawn
9:11 takes Queen to H4 King G8 and now after
9:14 Bishop G5 Rook F7 and Knight to D6 the
9:16 game is wildly out of control here I've
9:19 got this massive pin on the Knight on E7
9:20 with the bishop and the Queen the rook's
9:22 under attack if you take the Knight I
9:24 take back and now I win some material
9:26 and if black plays move Knight takes E5
9:28 computer says after Bishop E7 takes
9:31 takes F7 takes takes and I guess Knight
9:34 D4 probably black is still better but
9:37 white is very much in the game now I did
9:39 consider this but then I then I think I
9:41 overlooked something along the lines of
9:43 takes and I think I thought that after
9:46 Bishop G5 get some Knight G6 takes takes
9:49 Bishop C7 and Bishop D3 type idea at
9:50 this point it's been more than an hour
9:52 since the game so I'm a little bit lost
9:54 in my thoughts but something along these
9:57 lines I saw and so I didn't play it now
9:59 the other line that I considered as well
10:01 was to play this move Bishop to G5 which
10:03 also looks quite tricky but ultimately I
10:05 rejected this move cuz if black were to
10:07 play a move like let's say G6 for
10:09 example now Queen to E4 is extremely
10:11 strong because after Bishop to H5 Queen
10:14 to H4 the same idea of pinning the tail
10:16 on the donkey probably wins the game for
10:19 white but black does have this move F6
10:21 attacking the bishop and after takes
10:23 takes if I move the bishop to let's say
10:26 H6 for example after F5 Bishop takes f8
10:28 Queen takes f8 computer still doesn't
10:29 say that White's completely lost but
10:31 with this activity of the Bishops here
10:34 the queen coming into the game as well
10:35 and the Knight and the Rook on B1 and A1
10:37 not active it just feels really really
10:40 bad so after all this time of thinking I
10:41 basically decided you know what I'm
10:42 going to play Bishop D3 instead because
10:44 I know I'm not going to lose the game on
10:45 the spot here or so I thought and the
10:48 show goes on now after Bishop D3 V
10:50 played this move B5 after a bit of a
10:52 think and this move kind of surprised me
10:54 I thought the V would actually trade on
10:57 E5 here and after Rook E1 Bishop C7 with
10:59 ideas like Queen D6 I felt that black
11:01 should be better now how much better
11:03 remains unclear but with this Rook
11:04 Knight and Bishop underdeveloped it
11:08 feels like black has better chances so V
11:10 instead goes B5 which I thought was
11:12 dubious at the time I played Knight E3
11:14 Knight takes E5 and now I played this
11:15 move Bishop to E2 now there another
11:17 example of where you'll notice from my
11:19 move I played this move in 4 seconds and
11:21 this was simply my brain stopped working
11:24 at again when when I calculated Bishop
11:26 D3 B5 before playing this move Bishop to
11:28 D3 my intention was to play this end
11:31 game with takes takes Queen D3 takes
11:33 takes and now something like A4 here and
11:36 after say Bishop B6 not Bishop B6 sorry
11:38 after F5 Knight H2 something like Bishop
11:40 B6 black is definitely better white is
11:42 underdeveloped on the queen side but
11:44 maybe there's some chances to save the
11:47 game down the road but instead I use all
11:49 of four seconds here and now I play this
11:51 move Bishop E2 and once again I'm simply
11:53 at a loss for words in terms of why I
11:55 did this move now the other thing is
11:56 when I mentioned Knight takes G4 after
11:58 the game V said that he was going to
11:59 play Knight takes Knight and not Queen
12:01 takes Bishop which makes this decision
12:04 even worse on some level because after
12:07 takes and queen to E2 F5 here maybe
12:08 white is still okay with ideas like G3
12:11 and King G2 objectively black remains
12:13 quite a bit better but it feels like
12:15 there are some chances instead I play
12:17 Bishop E2 and after after V it now finds
12:20 this very nice move F5 I would say that
12:22 for a computer maybe it could still save
12:23 this game from but from a human
12:26 perspective it's very very close to loss
12:27 now the reason for that is that the Rook
12:29 is very active here I'm lacking in
12:31 development these three pieces still are
12:33 not in the game so go Knight to A3
12:35 sample line would be Queen to E8 with
12:37 the idea of Queen to H5 and all the
12:38 sudden they're massive checkmating
12:40 threats on the H file black can play for
12:43 F4 and F3 as well and as you can see
12:45 from the bar the game is just not going my
12:46 my
12:50 way so after F5 I play this move F4 and
12:52 again not trying to sort of make excuses
12:53 or try to make this something weird but
12:55 when I played F4 I simply did not see
12:58 V's next move which was Bishop B6 which
13:00 in my opinion just wins on the spot I
13:02 thought here I was only slightly worse
13:04 after he trades the Bishops and plays
13:06 something like Knight to D3 and I go G3
13:09 Bishop B6 and something like King G2 now
13:10 the great part about this and this is
13:12 actually why I'm starting to laugh a
13:13 little bit is this show this is also
13:16 another sign of how poorly I was sort of
13:18 calculating how everything was not
13:19 working today because even here I
13:20 thought I might be a little bit worse
13:23 but the computer says after Knight to D5
13:24 it's simply minus two and black is
13:28 completely winning so V does not go for
13:30 that he plays Bishop B6 which was
13:31 actually I thought it was a move I
13:33 didn't see and I think it effectively
13:35 ends the game on the spot and the reason
13:37 is quite simple if I take this free
13:39 horse on E5 there's Knight to D5 this
13:42 Knight on E3 is pinned here and just to
13:44 give some sample lines say I play a move
13:46 like Bishop G4 there's Knight E3 takes
13:49 takes takes King H2 not Queen to H4
13:51 check because then I can block with the
13:53 bishop here but after takes takes takes
13:55 I'm lacking a development on the queen
13:56 side the rook and the Knight are not in
13:59 the game if I move my knight to A3 after
14:01 Queen F4 if I go King H1 there's Queen
14:04 H6 with Checkmate and if I play G3 same
14:07 thing check King G2 and queen dh3 is
14:10 also Checkmate as well as my king on G2
14:12 simply has no squares
14:14 available so after a long think here I
14:16 decided to have some fun and play this
14:18 very funny looking move King to F2 now
14:20 of course King F2 is effectively the
14:21 same thing as a resignation but I didn't
14:23 see a better move and I thought it' be
14:24 kind of funny to try and bring to the
14:26 bring the king to the center and maybe
14:29 just maybe I can play a bong cloud so
14:31 after King to F2 V it plays Knight D5
14:34 sacking the Knight again on E5 at this
14:35 point there are many ways for black wi
14:37 Knight D5 isn't the only way but it's
14:39 probably the most effective play Rook to
14:42 H1 check and here V goes King G8 and now
14:44 I decid to take the horse now
14:47 temporarily I'm up a horse on E3 but
14:49 with this pin and play here and queen G5
14:51 being played Black's forces are simply
14:53 overwhelming and yet again I have a rook
14:55 a knight and a bishop which have simply
14:58 not moved the entire game again people
15:00 at home do not try and do this because
15:02 when you don't develop your pieces bad
15:05 things happen so here I go King to E1 of
15:06 course I'm trying to set up the board
15:09 here with the Rooks The Rook the Knight
15:10 the bishop the king and the Rook all in
15:12 the original squares all I'm lacking are
15:14 the bishop the Knight and the queen from
15:15 being on the original squares but I'm
15:17 doing my best to set up the board set up
15:19 the pieces during the game so I don't
15:21 have to waste time afterwards doing it
15:23 so Vita plays Bishop takes Knight now
15:25 this move is winning as our as our
15:27 basically all moves Knight takes E3 is
15:29 probably a little bit cleaner but it
15:30 really doesn't matter because black can
15:31 bring the Rooks to the center of the
15:33 board and I've moved my king all over
15:35 the place there's no hope of ever trying
15:37 to Castle it to the queen side so now I
15:39 play Bishop takes Bishop feed it takes I
15:41 trade the Bishops and at least I've got
15:43 rid of one of my pieces I got my Bishop
15:46 developed on move number 25 so after
15:49 Knight takes Bishop I play Queen to E2
15:51 he goes Queen G3 King D2 he plays Rook
15:53 ad d8 and now I go King
15:56 C1 here V plays Queen to G5 and now I
15:59 play this move B3 trying to manually
16:02 Castle my king to the queen side now
16:04 it's very close very close to maybe
16:06 surviving for another 5 to 10 moves here
16:08 if not for the next move V it finds if
16:09 you were to play a move like Rook to E8
16:12 for example after Knight to D2 even
16:13 though black is winning here I'm very
16:15 close to getting my knight in the game
16:17 if I get get the Knight to F3 at least
16:20 it'll go on for another five to 10 moves
16:22 but here V plays move Knight to F1 which
16:24 is a nice discover check attacking the
16:26 King on C1 and here I decide to resign
16:27 the game because if I move the king to
16:30 B2 there's Knight to G3 which Forks both
16:32 the queen on E2 and The Rook on H1 and
16:34 with the rook and the Knight not coming
16:36 into the game there's really no good
16:39 reason to continue so unfortunately with
16:41 that I lose in the second round to Vita
16:43 Gujarati I would say he played quite
16:45 well he found some very Enterprise moves
16:48 Bishop B6 and F5 from my standpoint if I
16:50 look at it with the Silver Lining I
16:51 simply was not there today this was
16:53 easily the worst game of chess I've
16:54 played in the last couple of years as
16:56 you probably saw even during this recap
16:57 there moments where I thought the
16:59 position was fine with that f4g 3 where
17:01 it simply was not fine it was completely
17:03 lost uh it just felt like today for
17:05 whatever reason my calculations were not
17:07 there um I did not make the right
17:09 decisions in the opening either and with
17:10 that I lost and I would say it's a very
17:12 deserved victory for VA a very deserved
17:14 loss for me when you play the way I did
17:16 today I have no business uh surviving in
17:18 such a game so it's not what I was
17:20 hoping for the great news is it's a long
17:22 tournament um so there still are 12 more
17:24 rounds the disappointing part is that
17:25 considering as I said before it's the
17:27 worst game I think that I've played in
17:28 the last couple of years that it had to
17:29 be in this tournament it couldn't have
17:31 been in the aisle of man or say any
17:33 other classical tourn I've played over
17:35 the last few years but that's life you
17:37 can't really ask why does it happen here
17:38 or not there you just have to deal with
17:41 it and move forward so I lose in the
17:42 second round tomorrow I'm going to be
17:43 playing with a black piece against n
17:46 abisa from aeran who lost the second
17:48 round as well to Fabian and Carana there
17:50 were four decisive results today so the
17:52 action is heating up that probably
17:53 boodes well for me because it means that
17:55 players are going to be very aggressive
17:57 taking more chances and hopefully I will
17:59 have some opportunities to try and win
18:01 some games in the remaining rounds so on
18:03 that note I hope you guys have enjoyed
18:04 this recap of the second round of f
18:06 Canada Tournament being held here in
18:08 Toronto Canada I will of course be
18:10 recapping all of my games hopefully they
18:11 aren't like today because today was
18:14 definitely a a bummer but that's how it
18:15 goes so I hope you've enjoy the recap
