0:02 in this video we're going to walk and
0:05 talk you through how to pass your Acca
0:08 SP exam hearing from a national Prize
0:11 winner from maius ranked number one get
0:13 your pen and paper at the ready ladies
0:15 and gentlemen because anush is going to
0:18 take us through his tips his insights
0:20 that led him to finish number one for
0:23 maius but Unos feel free to introduce
0:24 yourself my
0:27 friend Hi everyone my name is anush I am
0:30 from macius and I work as an accounting
0:33 educator in the in a in a secondary
0:36 school in macius oh wow Wicked well we
0:38 for this video we're just going into the
0:41 SPL exam on Kush imagine if you had to
0:43 go and do it again what how would you go
0:45 about it what was your sort of Journey
0:47 did you sales study did you go through a
0:50 provider let the viewers know how you did
0:51 did
0:54 it first and foremost I would like to
0:57 acknowledge that sbl is indeed a bulky
1:00 um paper it's a comp
1:02 paper we cannot decide to do it or not
1:05 to do it we have to do it and if someone
1:07 does not like too much literature if I
1:09 can put it that way he or she might not
1:12 really like sbl because sbl is more
1:16 about writing and analyzing it's there
1:18 are there are calculations yes but it's
1:21 about it's more about interpreting and
1:24 analyzing the first thing that I did
1:27 when I decided to embark on the sbl
1:30 journey was I downloaded the open
1:33 tuition free nodes I downloaded the
1:37 nodes I printed them yes we are living
1:39 in in the mod era where we can read from
1:42 our laptop but I always I always like
1:45 reading um having my pen and paper
1:46 highlighting and so on so this is the
1:50 first thing which I did nice I I also
1:53 printed all the technical articles this
1:55 is one thing which I think many students
1:59 miss out we have to go through each and
2:01 every technical a Les we surely won't
2:04 remember every uh single technical
2:06 article but just reading through them
2:10 learning um some bit about each and
2:12 every technical article on a daily basis
2:14 really helps out whether you are in a
2:17 bus you have 10 minutes waiting before
2:20 an appointment the technical article
2:24 really help for this module so the first
2:25 advice that I would like to give to
2:28 anyone undertaking SB would be technical
2:31 articles brilliant yeah they're so
2:32 they're so underrated they are
2:35 completely free as well and for S they
2:38 go through some of those key areas of
2:41 theory that you just need to know for
2:42 your exam you've got you've got your
2:45 Porters fire forces on there pestl
2:47 they've got individual articles for each
2:48 Theory which really really helps to
2:50 break it down on there but what what
2:53 else brings to mind on Kush that that
2:55 really helped you to get that Top Mark
2:58 for macius in the
3:02 exam I think one needs to be consistent
3:04 there are many students who um many
3:07 senior colleagues who when I asked them
3:09 what other the tips that they could give
3:11 me before I embark on this journey some
3:13 of them told me that you know um you
3:15 should do each paper over a span of six
3:18 months um I believe six months is a
3:22 really long time one can cover in any
3:26 Seca paper if I can say that within two
3:28 to three months itself if if that person
3:30 is consistent
3:33 consistency is key for me if on a daily
3:36 basis uh we get we take out some time
3:38 just to to read a few notes to practice
3:41 questions practice also is is quite
3:44 important we cannot just uh read one
3:47 question read The Examiner report read
3:49 the model answer because this is not how
3:52 how it works take out your laptop read
3:55 one question type your answer even if it
3:58 is just five to 10 lines at least you
4:00 have started compare it with the
4:03 examiner's report uh go on YouTube
4:06 there's so so so many free resources
4:07 there's so many questions that are
4:10 explained in detail by top shors across
4:13 the world just go through this take time
4:17 it's a very lengthy paper yes and at the
4:19 very start I remember doing only one
4:23 question and I used to take around two
4:25 to three hours just one question but
4:28 with time and practice and I repeat
4:30 being consistent is what is going to
4:33 help one succeed in this paper
4:35 definitely and and also utilizing the
4:38 the CBE platform making sure that you're
4:40 getting used to how it all works on
4:43 there because in in the exam so many
4:46 students waste so much time on the CBE
4:48 platform where going through the
4:50 scenario then getting your answer down
4:53 planning your answer how did you get on
4:55 I always get asked about time management
4:59 in the SP exam answering a 100 marks how
5:01 did you over that again to get such a
5:04 high Mark I I think you've mentioned
5:06 correctly that getting used to the CB
5:08 platform is also very important and as
5:12 far as sbl is concerned structuring your
5:15 answer is very very very important you
5:17 need to have a proper heading you need
5:19 to break your answer into several
5:21 paragraphs because if we think from the
5:24 perspective of of a marker the mar
5:27 wouldn't want to read only one single
5:29 big paragraph at the end of the day he
5:32 she's a human being he or she gets tired
5:35 gets bored so even if there's a question
5:37 that we not sure about let us try to
5:40 present it in a way that um somehow
5:44 somehow somehow makes the the work the
5:47 marking task of the examiner easier for
5:50 him or her so have a proper heading
5:52 break your answer into several
5:54 paragraphs have a
5:57 conclusion focus on the professional
6:00 marks you are given I'm not sure sure if
6:02 if it is still the same 20 marks
6:05 professional if I'm correct so try to
6:08 grab those marks because those are not
6:12 very difficult to get just most how to
6:15 get those professional marks and then I
6:18 think the rest 80 marks one can work
6:22 around let's say 40% or 50% out of 80
6:24 because if we are already getting let's
6:26 say 15 out of 20 in the professional
6:28 marks and then we don't have to work
6:31 that much on
6:34 at it's it's a it's a definite pass when
6:37 you combine all them all of them yes
6:39 indeed but but lot I can I can hear the
6:41 students on the other side of the screen
6:43 saying James you've got to ask him how
6:46 do I get to that stage where I feel
6:49 confident so that I know about the
6:52 professional skills marks I know about
6:54 technical areas did did you read some of
6:57 the maybe uh examiner reports on there
7:00 or or were you doing lots of mock papers
7:03 to time uh how did you approach all all
7:05 of it how did it go for your studying to
7:08 get you to that confidence uh level I
7:11 think a student will know that he or she
7:14 is on the right track that he is almost
7:18 ready we are never ready in Seca almost
7:21 ready is is the is the right way to say
7:24 it you will feel almost ready when you
7:26 have a look at the paper and you know
7:28 that okay there's something that I can
7:30 write about about for each of the
7:33 questions that I can see in front of me
7:35 nothing seems out of subject nothing
7:38 seems uh completely new to me if while
7:40 reading each question you're able to say
7:42 okay there's something that I can write
7:44 about it then you're on the right track
7:47 and second thing which I would like to
7:48 say is
7:52 that in any exam whether it's sbl or any
7:55 other SEC paper there will be part there
7:57 will be some parts but uh we might feel
8:00 we have never learned before where does
8:02 this come from I never saw this but we
8:06 should not stop read it again try to
8:08 apply your
8:10 knowledge and try to see how you can
8:12 write something by linking it to the
8:14 scenario there's always a way out
8:16 there's nothing nothing absolutely
8:20 nothing that cannot be answered yes yeah
8:21 really good advice there and I love how
8:24 you said linking it to the scenario it's
8:25 one of the things that whenever I Mark
8:29 papers I go you're talking sense but
8:31 you're not linking it to the company to
8:34 to the business that it's referring to
8:35 another thing that really helped me when
8:37 I was doing my exams was I try to use
8:41 the words in the requirement to actually
8:43 shape my answers so if they were talking
8:46 about cash flow or working Capital
8:47 Management I'm there going right I've
8:49 got to put cash flow in my answer I've
8:51 got to put working Capital Management in
8:53 there so that the person who's reading
8:56 it goes they're on the right lines maybe
8:58 I could give them a Mark or two on there
9:01 um but again sort of like how many mock
9:03 papers did you do did you do many at a
9:04 time like how did it work in your
9:06 revision stage as
9:10 well um I I don't really believe in in
9:13 in quantity I believe in quality so so
9:17 um I did all the specimen papers p exam
9:20 practice that were available on the CB
9:23 platform after having done this I I did
9:26 all the questions whose answers were
9:28 already there on YouTube explained by a tutor
9:30 tutor
9:31 the third thing which I did I ensured
9:34 that in every chapter from every chapter
9:38 I have I have worked at least one or two
9:41 or even three questions because if if a
9:45 student works out one to three questions
9:48 from each chapter that stud student will
9:51 automatically have an Insight a
9:53 knowledge of that chapter there will be
9:55 nothing that will be completely out of
9:57 this world when he's going to have a paper
9:59 paper
10:01 that's a really good point it's so that
10:04 whatever they give you on the exam day
10:06 you can have a really good go at it and
10:09 think I've got a chance of passing here
10:11 uh as well for it the the other things
10:13 to mention are that if you've got a bit
10:16 of time before your exam the ethics and
10:19 professional skills module that you have
10:22 to do to qualify the stats show that
10:23 students who do that ethics and
10:26 professional skills module are more
10:29 likely to pass the examination I mean
10:30 did you do yours before your exam can
10:33 you remember or did you do it
10:36 afterwards um if if I can be very Frank
10:39 about it I did it when I completed all
10:42 the papers there you go you
10:46 see it's it is the FX module surely
10:50 helps because statistics Pro so but uh I
10:52 I did not do it I did it at the last
10:54 when I completed all my four papers so
10:59 in my case um I I I don't think um it
11:03 played against me but yes maybe if I had
11:05 done it earlier it would have helped me
11:08 to earn more marks but that's only can
11:11 say yeah exactly no I completely agree
11:13 with you but it's just so that students
11:16 who are watching this will be going KY
11:18 uh unus there has actually been doing
11:20 all the technical articles he goes
11:22 through every single chapter he's done
11:24 all of the mock and CB practice
11:28 questions available on acca's website
11:30 he's doing lots of revision questions as
11:33 he goes through is there any sort of way
11:35 that you were going about your your sort
11:37 of work how did you sort of balance it
11:39 with other commitments in your life
11:41 because the SP exam has a lot of
11:43 syllabus areas and a lot of things to
11:47 cover it is it is indeed a bulky paper
11:50 but then like like I already mentioned
11:52 you don't have to sit for two hours
11:54 straight you don't have to sit for three
11:57 hours straight to study um any paper any
12:00 Anya paper what one can do just just
12:03 have the materials ready for example um
12:05 you are going out for an appointment you
12:07 are accompanying someone to the Super
12:08 Market and you know that you're going to
12:12 have 15 minutes instead of of of sitting
12:14 idle 15 minutes why don't take out a
12:16 technical article just read highlight
12:19 something new and and just J down what
12:21 what you don't understand so but you can
12:24 refer to the study text later but
12:26 towards the end let's say two to three
12:29 weeks before the exam make sure that
12:31 they intensive
12:34 practice the 10 minutes 15 minutes 10
12:36 minutes 15 minutes tip that I just gave
12:38 is like when you're starting three
12:40 months before two months before but the
12:43 last two to three weeks are crucial it
12:45 has to be the papers need to be done
12:48 consistently on an everyday basis yeah
12:50 so it becomes sort of second nature it's
12:53 just you know yes but I always fine with
12:56 when I read some of the past papers is
12:58 you've got to get good at looking at the scenario
13:00 scenario
13:02 and then going I can see a political
13:04 factor in there I can see an
13:06 environmental area um I can see some
13:09 legal aspects so then your mind has to
13:12 trigger under the exam pressure that
13:14 this is that they're trying to get me to
13:17 use the pestal model here and then I've
13:19 got to take the model apply it to the
13:21 requirement because it will be about 12
13:24 to 40 marks or so and then like you said
13:27 you got to structure your answer first
13:28 paragraph about the political areas then
13:30 next next from probably about
13:31 environmental that's the sort of
13:33 technique that I have in my mind are
13:34 there any other techniques that really
13:36 helped you maybe like planning your answer
13:38 answer
13:40 or um I would say that before planning
13:41 your answer you have to read the
13:44 scenario first and and I'm sure that you
13:45 will agree with me sometimes the
13:48 scenario can be very lengthy so make use
13:50 of the highlighters I think you can
13:53 highlight in different colors whenever
13:55 you you spot something that is very
13:57 important that you that you can use
13:59 later when when writing your answer just
14:01 highlight it in blue when you continue
14:03 highlight it in pink continue
14:04 highlighting in different colors because
14:06 this is what is going to make you
14:08 remember what you highlighted feel free
14:11 to use the the resources that that are
14:14 there on the on the platform use
14:19 tables use the the the fonts italics
14:21 underlines shape your answer properly
14:24 make it yes the content has to be good
14:30 but if your answer is visually appealing
14:33 The Examiner will automatically feel
14:36 feel um at ease while reading your
14:39 answer and we might never know examiner
14:42 might give you one more for that yeah it
14:46 doesn't look rushed yeah yeah sometimes
14:48 when when we when we are typing we we we
14:50 don't think what what we are typing
14:52 about we are just typing so always when
14:54 when you're typing try to think okay I
14:56 have typed two
15:00 sentences have I typed enough to ear one
15:03 Mark have I typed those two sentence
15:06 sentences for nothing if it's for
15:08 nothing then why is it there sometimes
15:10 yes we need to type something just to
15:12 give an overview we cannot start
15:14 answering the question directly but make
15:16 sure at the back of your mind whenever
15:19 you're typing okay whatever am I typing
15:21 right now how many marks have I earned
15:22 if I were to correct myself one Mark or two
15:23 two
15:26 Mars okay one more okay let's continue
15:29 then this is how I used to to assess my
15:32 yourself because you're not indiv you
15:34 can be your own Market yeah no that's
15:36 really good advice and especially when
15:38 you're when you're being your own marker
15:40 be really really strict and harsh on
15:42 yourself don't go probably got a mark
15:45 there maybe not on there it's it's like
15:47 because that is the gap between a pass
15:48 and a fail on there because they're
15:51 going to be really harsh so the SPL exam
15:54 only has around about a 50% pass rate on
15:56 there so if every two students that go
15:59 to the exam sadly only one will pass it
16:02 on there but Unos are there any other
16:04 final nuggets of
16:07 pure gold that you could share with
16:09 students who are watching now that could
16:12 be the difference in getting them to
16:15 pass um I would just like to say that
16:18 you don't have to um you can but you
16:21 don't have to necessarily take up
16:23 expensive courses because expensive
16:27 courses do not equate to a guaranteed
16:30 pass before thinking of taking a course
16:33 which anyone can of course but try to
16:35 try to think what can I get freely
16:36 available you have open tuition but you
16:39 can get notes easily available you have
16:42 the free videos just type sbl on the
16:44 search bar on YouTube and you will see
16:47 that there plenty of videos but you will
16:49 never be able to watch in one lifetime
16:52 so make use of those print the technical
16:54 articles uh write down your notes
16:57 underline the words that you don't
17:00 understand get back to the study text
17:03 anything their podcast on on on on so
17:09 many platforms make use of these yeah no
17:11 oh yes because at the end of the day if
17:13 I may add at this stage when doing a
17:15 level three people we are professionals
17:18 we we cannot expect to be
17:20 spoonfed yeah it's it's at that final
17:23 level it's this is where it gets really
17:24 serious where we've got to work out
17:27 who's going to pass and as you can see
17:28 behind you to get those lovely
17:30 certificates and everything like that
17:32 because it means it's all worth it for
17:34 for those hard yards on there but I have
17:36 to say on thank you so much for sharing
17:38 all of your insights coming on the
17:40 channel today for your debut as well
17:41 guys if you've got any questions leave
17:43 us uh some down at the bottom in the
17:46 comment I'll also put all of my free SPL
17:49 videos down there check them out they're
17:52 all on there show my insights and we
17:53 will see you in another video so make
17:55 sure you subscribe but thank you thank
17:58 you so much onos I really appreciate it
18:00 thank you take care lovely cheers guys
