0:02 let's do a quick review of our wall
0:04 parts using our models
0:05 so we have
0:08 plates they run horizontal
0:10 that this is my bottom plate this is my
0:11 top plate
0:13 on top of my top plate i have a cap
0:16 plate both of these together we would
0:18 call a double top plate
0:20 on each end i have a vertical stud this
0:22 is my n stud
0:24 this is my n stud i have all of these
0:27 common studs in between and they're on
0:30 regular intervals we will call layout
0:33 your layout could be 24 on center 16 on
0:36 center or 12 on center
0:39 moving on to our rough openings
0:46 a door rough opening and on the very top
0:48 i have my header it works like a bridge
0:50 it carries the weight down through my
0:53 jacks to my bottom plate i have a jack
0:55 on either end or either side of my rough
0:58 opening i have a king stud that's my
1:01 last full stud that is connected to my
1:03 rough opening and my studs fall
1:06 on layout with my common studs these are
1:08 partial studs that
1:11 land every 24 inches on this wall on my
1:13 window i have the same parts i have my
1:16 header that carries my weight to my jack
1:18 studs my jack studs carry the weight
1:22 down to my bottom plate my king studs
1:24 are the very outside parts of my rough
1:27 opening and they are my last full
1:30 vertical stud that is related to that
1:32 rough opening my stud carries
1:35 the load from my double top plate down
1:38 to my header and then i have my sill
1:40 which is my bottom horizontal piece and
1:43 i have a stud on layout that
1:46 follows this upper layout down here i
1:48 have one thing here to point out on this
1:50 wall that might be a little confusing on
1:52 this side you see that i have one king
1:55 stud it's a full stud on this side i
1:57 have what looks like two king studs
2:00 what's really happening here is that i'm
2:03 following my layout i have 24 on center
2:06 so i have common stud 24 on center
2:09 common stud stud 24 on center
2:12 and then my layout falls right here
2:14 which is outside of this king stud so
2:16 we're going to put this stud in our
2:18 layout is very important that we don't
2:21 deviate from it so even if it's next to
