0:52 extremely boring if you don't know what

0:59 anyway our star Shinji Ikari a
1:00 fourteen-year-old league player who's
1:01 forced the pilot mechs in order to
1:03 defeat the Angels giant beings from
1:04 outer space which are actually derived
1:06 from Adam but being responsible for the
1:08 second impact you see Adam came from the
1:10 white moon so obviously Lilith Adam
1:11 sibling came from the black moon anyway
1:13 the only time we see Lilith is
1:14 underground pierced by the spear of
1:16 Longinus but the spear of Longinus is
1:17 bad shinji's dad wants to get rid of the
1:19 spear of Longinus because it's necessary
1:20 to initiate the human instrumentality
1:23 project this is all actually foretold in
1:24 the prophecy through the Dead Sea
1:25 Scrolls my bad did that sound like
1:27 gibberish that's what watching the show
1:28 felt like because they don't even
1:29 attempt to explain any of the terms that
1:31 despite being a censor with a little
1:33 plot or barely mentioned and when they
1:34 are mentioned it's only to say some
1:37 vague [ __ ] like yes the vagina is
1:40 theorem is nearing completion
1:42 what's the human instrumentality project
1:44 well I dug through the script and
1:46 between episodes 1 through 24 it's only
1:47 mentioned five times and we're told on
1:50 episode 21 that is meant to harness the
1:51 power for God which doesn't even scratch
1:53 the surface of what it actually does how
1:55 about the lance of laryngitis it's
1:57 mentioned once on episode 12 and you see
1:59 ray doing something with it so you think
2:00 huh and where what that thing does and
2:02 it isn't talked about until episode 22
2:04 and for all that wait this is what we
2:07 learned seal wants it Hikari wants it gone
2:07 gone
2:09 it destroys eighty fields and it's
2:10 hinted at sealing away Lilith
2:11 so they hype it up to be this crazy
2:13 device that'll change everything and we
2:15 discover nothing about it why does he'll
2:17 want it where does it come from you get
2:18 interested in little concepts like the
2:20 instrumentality project or the Angels
2:22 just to get absolutely dirty next by the
2:24 writers because these mysteries end up
2:25 going nowhere it just becomes this
2:26 convoluted mess with a ton of questions
2:29 and no answers want to know about the
2:31 Dead Sea Scrolls no they only mention it
2:32 four times in the show when I know what
2:34 the black egg is want to know why the
2:38 angels are attacking I want to know what
2:39 the first impact was you see what this
2:41 is knowing oh but you can find that
2:42 information online just not in the main
2:44 series you see I'd almost created by the
2:46 first ancestral race alone extremely
2:47 advanced alien civilization that's
2:49 responsible for the successful race
2:50 actually originated from our men was
2:52 sent to earth within the white moon to
2:53 fill the world over lilith thrived on
2:54 earth accidentally while within the
2:56 glass the function is both an egg and a
2:57 transportation device for this Willet

3:58 reveal is really cool and then the
3:59 reveal never happens you wasted your
4:01 time it really alienates the audience
4:02 from the jump when you toss around all
4:04 these terms and organizations without
4:07 even bothering to explain them watch the
4:10 movie skim oh just watch the movies I'd
4:11 rather deep throat a tactical insertion
4:13 the waist even another second
4:15 researching naval or first off I'm not
4:17 that interested anymore and second the
4:22 show is hard to watch because every
4:24 episode up until 14 follows the same
4:26 exact formula it starts off with either
4:27 shinji having daddy issues or the gang
4:29 is going through some filler then midway
4:31 through an angel attacks and usually
4:32 it'll look like team shinji is winning
4:35 and suddenly o direct power to right
4:36 thrust mam the boosters have been
4:38 disabled you get a little montage of
4:40 some League of Legends players spamming
4:41 racial slurs in chat and now they can't
4:42 beat the angel
4:44 they spend 15 minutes planning how to
4:45 kill it you'll get some occasional
4:47 dialogue like don't fret this is all
4:49 foretold and the peepee poo-poo complex
4:51 to make you feel like the plot is moving
4:52 and then wowie-zowie
4:54 the new plan works perfectly the first
4:56 time you tried it you can tweak the
4:58 formula a little bit for example episode
4:59 7 everyone's talking at a conference for
5:01 10 minutes about this robot everything's
5:04 going great and sir our Garen is feeding
5:06 keels down bot lane impossible try
5:08 calling him and sir we did that and he
5:09 told us he wasn't black so they spend
5:11 seven more minutes devising a plan
5:13 Masato gets sent in there the plan
5:14 doesn't work the first time it gets
5:15 resolved anyway
5:17 it essentially throws a minor twisted in
5:18 there to say something about Akari every
5:20 episode feels like Bill Murray's
5:21 Groundhog Day where it's the same thing
5:23 with small delineations you sit here
5:25 thinking well when are the angels coming
5:26 you see them fine think well when is
5:28 this gonna go wrong you effectively
5:30 remove any and all suspense especially
5:31 because no one important in the series
5:34 dies we'll get to that later and this
5:35 contributes to what becomes a very
5:36 boring show with nothing that really
5:38 sticks out to me I will say however I
5:39 stopped following to sleep around
5:41 episode 14 because the angels appear
5:42 less frequently in the show becomes
5:44 harder to predict which I can respect however
5:46 however
5:51 I fell asleep watching this twice since
5:53 each episode feels the same the story
5:55 carries a feeling of stagnation aside
5:56 for Moscow appearing nothing important
5:57 actually happens to permanently change
5:59 the cast nor the world no one dies and
6:02 uncover some major secret that causes a
6:03 rift between characters and it stays
6:05 that way until the anime ends if you
6:07 want to use the it's realistic argument

6:09 someone's got to die when there's robots
6:10 killing each other in the middle of the
6:12 city right now this guy's sister got
6:14 pinned under some rubble oh how
6:15 convenient he sat though on fuyutsuki
6:18 survived a nuke on episode 18 episode 3
6:20 deep and throat are just fine sitting
6:21 under a giant mech fight however around
6:23 episode 17 I actually started feeling
6:25 nervous for a character something about
6:27 having him pilot the AVA unnerved me and
6:29 by episode 18 his body is snapped in
6:30 half against gingy's will it was a
6:32 turning point for an even more serious
6:36 point in the story unless haha on the
6:37 pisode 23 rate dies or if ik and
6:40 traumatic death no that's too crazy
6:44 unless haha what are the stakes clearly
6:45 I'm not supposed to be on the edge of my
6:46 seat because I already know no one's
6:48 dying I know it's gonna happen every
6:50 episode is it the action is that why I'm

7:25 her we develop our own questions that we
7:27 actively want answered Ava develops a
7:29 bunch of questions that not only am I
7:31 not invested enough to care about but
7:32 ones that they don't answer there's
7:34 actual stinks that keep you interested
7:35 in Naruto proxy because it's spontaneous
7:37 I don't know what's gonna happen every
7:38 episode I don't know who's gonna die
7:41 whereas Ava is not that however as I
7:42 said it did start picking up a round
7:44 episode 14 a majority of those foreign
7:46 terms I mentioned earlier were actually
7:47 used the most in later episodes of the
7:49 show is when the plat felt like it was
7:50 moving and we'd finally discover
7:52 something what's the spirit of lasagna
7:53 well we end up getting cocked on last
7:55 two episodes and learned absolutely

9:09 there's also people like Jack Lucas who
9:10 made it through the most intense
9:12 military training available at age 14 at
9:14 17 he stowed away on a ship headed for
9:16 Eva Jima on the frontlines and when he
9:17 finally arrives he has to storm the
9:19 beach without a weapon so obviously he
9:21 grabs it off a dead soldier and charges
9:23 right in upon joining up at the friendly
9:24 team of soldiers he starts getting shot
9:26 in boom the first round of his rifle
9:28 headshot subdued his second round
9:30 however jammed his rifle he picked it up
9:32 although soaked in blood and sand in the
9:33 confusion he realizes alive grenades
9:35 been thrown at his comrades and
9:36 immediately hops on top and tells his
9:38 home he should take cover it's then that
9:40 another grenade flashes past his face so
9:41 he grabs that one and throws it under
9:43 his body adding to the pile the two
9:45 grenades blow up and suddenly his guts
9:46 are filled with metal his comrades
9:48 finished the battle and come back to
9:49 collect his dog tags when they realize
9:51 the [ __ ] still alive and still
9:52 conscious guy makes a full recovery
9:55 thank you this has been story time with
9:57 scam boli's point is realistic isn't
9:59 always oh oh geez Rick I don't know

10:15 more I'd like to see her slowly
10:17 developing a sense of self and we only
10:18 catch a glimpse of that this is
10:19 important because even if someone
10:21 actually died I wouldn't give a [ __ ]
10:23 it's real hard to build suspense when I
10:24 don't even care what happened if Shinji
10:26 died well the story goes on if Oscar died

10:42 dying off with some minor character who
10:44 had no impact on the story aside from
10:46 being a plot device for Shinji to storm

10:52 I can't empathize nor can I sympathize
10:54 with any of the cast
10:55 that's not character development just
10:57 now I googled why do people like Ava and
10:59 someone said because the characters are

11:02 characters top even Breaking Bad and
11:04 that just gave me a hernia I'm gonna
11:06 know the difference between Breaking
11:08 Bad's cast and Ava's insell Harley and
11:10 blow-up doll 1 the blank Abel Walt does
11:12 a desperate man on his last leg who will
11:13 do anything to make his family's life
11:15 easier when he dies even if that means
11:17 selling meth and murdering people right
11:18 there that motive is enough to sell me
11:20 but on top of that his personality is
11:22 enjoyable and he makes a series fun to

13:02 he then proceeds to walk away from her
13:04 and sheds his light red shirt for a
13:06 darker and more sinister shade a
13:08 blood-red this is where Walter leaves
13:10 for the rest of the series in Heisenberg
13:12 arrives just a shade of red says so much
13:14 this symbolism like this make a great
13:17 story book no but it's cool to look at
13:19 and think huh that was interesting I
13:20 don't care that Ava has religious
13:22 symbolism that does nothing for me so
13:23 don't even try and pulling that [ __ ]
13:25 look at modern art look how stupid it
13:26 looks but it sounds because
13:29 ding-ding-ding symbolism ah this
13:31 pineapple symbolizes when I poop that
13:33 the poop feels like a spiky ball and

13:37 Ava symbolism doesn't matter unless the
13:38 rest is cool to look at don't get me

13:41 appreciate the symbolism that's totally
13:43 understandable and fine but if use that
13:51 basically the ending is just 40 minutes
13:52 of every character confronting their
13:54 insecurities and coming to terms with
13:55 the human instrumentality project it
13:57 feels like a high school play where they
13:58 have to describe everything because
14:00 there's not enough time to convey the
14:01 emotions of every character I'm just

14:32 an ending number one I don't care about
14:34 these characters yeah everyone on the
14:36 show hates themselves why should I care
14:39 Shinji is a nuisance Tosca is just a
14:40 menace and so on and it's not like
14:42 anyone develops in the end they just
14:43 kind of come
14:46 terms with themselves and hooray I'm a
14:48 [ __ ] yeah but that was pretty
14:50 subjective let's say you actually care
14:51 about the characters and story we do
14:53 learn about the human instrumentality
14:55 project yet we don't learn a single
14:56 thing about akari's motives while the
14:58 project's even happening where the
14:59 angels come from why the Angels hate
15:02 humans so on and so forth so you've
15:03 invested around thirteen and a half
15:05 hours into the series hoping praying for
15:07 a fulfilling ending that explains what's
15:08 going on all to get cut for nearly an hour
15:09 hour
15:10 it completely deviates from the rest of
15:12 the story for what to be artistic to be
15:14 deep to make a statement about the human
15:18 mind whoo whoo you learned in seventh
15:20 grade what makes a story the beginning
15:22 rising action the climax and falling
15:24 action only there is no climax talen
15:27 it's just one long less than mediocre
15:28 hand job where you don't even finish
15:30 right as you feel it coming he or she
15:32 just stops and starts giving you a
15:40 the Ava's are so [ __ ] cool first off
15:42 the design is rad even 20 years later
15:43 when they ever start freaking out and
15:44 going berserk everything about it's
15:46 unnerving and badass especially when
15:48 unit one starts eating an angel there's
15:50 a handful of these moments for each one
15:51 it's [ __ ] sick speaking of cool
15:53 moments any time they use classical
15:55 old-school type music was a blast like
15:56 when the two ava's are dancing together
15:58 to be an angel and let's talk about the
15:59 way the anime was edited the whole thing
16:01 kind of felt like watching some sort of
16:02 war catalog that you're not supposed to
16:04 see there's also these long shots of
16:05 landscape that give off a vibe I've
16:07 never felt in anime I really wish that
16:09 modern anime would branch out and
16:10 explore different methods of
16:11 cinematography like Ava did it really
16:13 breathe fresh air into the medium and
16:14 provide a massive outlet for creativity
16:17 instead of you know dipping into the
16:18 story side of things I think it's really
16:20 cool that if for some reason you
16:21 actually liked it you could spend hours
16:23 upon hours dissecting why the author did
16:25 certain things and what characters were
16:27 thinking and so on even 24 years later

16:36 because a bunch of nerds decide
16:37 something's a classic doesn't make it
16:39 good have you ever read The Great Gatsby
16:42 that [ __ ] [ __ ] sucked even might have

16:48 fun to watch and if you disagree well

16:51 amounts of brain power than you you
