0:05 we read the word of God from Exodus
0:09 12 from verse 1 to verse
0:12 15 and those of you who are Bible
0:14 students will recognize this as the
0:20 Passover Exodus
0:24 12 and the Lord spoke unto Moses and
0:26 Aaron in the land of Egypt
0:30 saying this month shall be unto you the
0:31 beginning of
0:33 months it shall be the first month of
0:35 the year to
0:38 you speak ye unto all the congregation
0:41 of Israel saying in the 10th day of this
0:44 month they shall take to them every man
0:47 a lamb according to the house of their
0:50 fathers a lamb for a
0:53 house and if the household be too little
0:55 for the lamb let him and his neighbor
0:58 next unto his house take it according to
1:00 the number of the souls
1:03 every man according to his eating shall
1:05 make your account for the
1:09 lamb your lamb shall be without blemish
1:12 a male of the first year ye shall take
1:15 it out from the sheep or from the goats
1:18 and ye shall keep it until the 14th day
1:22 of the same month and the whole assembly
1:24 of the congregation of Israel shall kill
1:25 it in the
1:28 evening and they shall take of the blood
1:31 and strike it on the the two side posts
1:33 and on the upper doorpost of the houses
1:36 wherein they shall eat it and they shall
1:40 eat the Flesh in that night roast with
1:43 fire and unleavened bread and with
1:46 bitter herbs shall they eat it eat not
1:48 of it raw nor
1:52 boiled at all with water but roast with
1:55 fire its head with its legs and with the

2:00 thereof and ye shall let nothing of it
2:02 remain until the morning and that which
2:05 remaineth of it until the morning ye
2:08 shall burn with fire and thus shall ye
2:12 eat it with your loins girded your shoes
2:16 on your feet and your staff in your hand
2:19 and ye shall eat it in haste it is the Lord's

2:23 Passover for I will pass through the
2:26 land of Egypt this night and will Smite
2:29 all the firstborn in the land of Egypt
2:33 both man and Beast and against all the
2:36 gods of Egypt I will execute
2:40 judgment I am the Lord and the blood
2:43 shall be to you for a token upon your
2:46 houses wherein ye are and when I see the
2:50 blood I will pass over you and the
2:53 plague shall not be upon you to destroy
2:56 you when I smite the land of Egypt and
2:58 this day shall be unto you for a
3:02 memorial and ye shall keep it a feast to
3:05 the Lord throughout your Generations ye
3:08 shall keep it a feast by an ordinance
3:10 forever seven days shall ye eat
3:14 unleavened bread even the first day ye
3:17 shall put away leaven out of your houses
3:20 for whosoever eateth leavened bread from
3:24 the first day until the seventh day that
3:28 Soul shall be cut off from
3:31 Israel Thomas Jefferson was undoubtedly
3:33 one of the most brilliant men who ever
3:36 occupied the White
3:39 House and during his life he did many great
3:41 great
3:44 things but at the close of his
3:47 life Thomas Jefferson made it known that
3:50 he wanted to be remembered for three accomplishments
3:53 accomplishments
4:00 Epitaph number three the
4:01 the
4:05 founder of the University of
4:09 Virginia number two the author of the
4:14 Statute for Religious Liberty in
4:16 Virginia number
4:19 one the author of the Declaration of
4:22 Independence interestingly enough he did
4:24 not want to be remembered as the
4:27 President of the United
4:29 States Thomas Jefferson was very proud
4:31 of the fact that he had been
4:33 providentially chosen to write the
4:35 Declaration of
4:38 Independence I think those words that
4:40 are in the Declaration of Independence
4:43 are very meaningful to us I sat down and
4:45 reread them the other
4:50 day we hold these truths to be
4:53 self-evident that all men are created
4:56 equal they are endowed by their creator
5:00 with certain unalienable rights that
5:04 among these are life liberty and the
5:05 pursuit of
5:07 happiness now actually you could have
5:10 read those words on Passover night when
5:12 God was going to free the people of
5:15 Israel you see what Independence Day is
5:18 to us as citizens of the United States
5:21 Passover is to the people of
5:24 Israel Passover was their Declaration of
5:26 Independence and you could have stood
5:28 there at the Red Sea and read these
5:31 words to the Jewish
5:35 people that among these rights are life
5:37 liberty and the pursuit of happiness
5:40 because that's what Passover was all
5:43 about it interests me to hear people
5:45 occasionally criticize us for talking about
5:46 about
5:48 blood they say now Pastor weby why don't
5:51 you get Moody Church into the 20th
5:53 century we don't believe in that Butcher
5:56 House religion anymore this business of
5:58 singing about blood and talking about
6:00 blood you couldn't have said that to a
6:03 Jewish person on Passover night because
6:05 it was the blood that made the
6:07 difference by the way Liberty does not come
6:09 come
6:13 free what they experienced that night in
6:16 Egypt was because the Lambs had
6:18 died the Liberty that you and I
6:20 experience today we have because somebody
6:22 somebody
6:24 died I think we ought to take these
6:26 three blessings that are named life
6:28 liberty and the pursuit of happiness and
6:30 apply them
6:32 to our Jewish friends at Passover and
6:34 apply them to our own
6:36 Hearts you see it was the lamb that
6:38 accomplished the whole
6:41 thing these past several Sunday mornings
6:43 we've been talking about pictures of the
6:46 Lord Jesus in the Old Testament and one
6:49 picture that keeps repeating itself over
6:51 and over again is that of the
6:54 Lamb when uh Abraham and Isaac were
6:57 going up to mount Mariah where Abraham
7:01 was going to sacrifice his son
7:03 the young man said father behold here is
7:05 the wood and here is the fire but where
7:06 is the
7:09 Lamb that was the whole question for the
7:12 Old Testament era where is the
7:15 Lamb on Passover night they killed the
7:17 lamb and applied the blood to the
7:19 doorposts and the angel of judgment
7:23 passed over them you get to Isaiah
7:25 chapter 53 and the lamb is dying for the
7:30 nation of Israel he is brought as a lamb
7:32 as a sheep before her shearers is dumb
7:35 so he opens not his mouth but that
7:37 question keeps echoing through the Old
7:40 Testament scriptures where is the Lamb
7:41 for the
7:45 sacrifice not all the blood of bulls and
7:47 goats on Jewish altars
7:50 slain says the hymn could ever wash away
7:53 the sin of man could ever Purge the
7:57 conscience and year after year and
8:00 decade after decade sacrif devices were
8:02 made and yet the question kept coming
8:03 where is the
8:06 Lamb one day John the Baptist showed up
8:09 on the shores of the Jordan River and he
8:12 points to a young man and says Behold
8:15 the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin
8:18 of the world there's the answer there's
8:21 the lamb and they took that lamb and
8:24 they killed him and he arose from the
8:26 dead the third day and he went back to
8:28 heaven and I read in the Book of
8:32 Revelation that the hosts of Glory are
8:36 singing Worthy is the Lamb that was
8:39 slain and so from Genesis to Revelation
8:42 wherever you look you find the lamb oh I
8:44 would that people
8:47 understood that the little lamb slain at
8:50 Passover is a picture of our Lord Jesus
8:53 Christ because of the death of Jesus
8:57 Christ you and I have these blessings
9:00 spiritually life
9:03 liberty and the pursuit of happiness I'm
9:06 not talking about political now I'm
9:08 talking about spiritual that's the most
9:11 important let's take the first of these
9:14 blessings the blessing of life because
9:18 Jesus Christ God's lamb has died for you
9:21 you can have the blessing of life you
9:26 see Egypt was under an Edict of
9:31 death Moses said yet one plague more is
9:33 God going to send upon the nation of
9:36 Egypt God had been speaking to pharaoh
9:39 and to his officers through his word
9:42 Moses and Aaron had proclaimed the word
9:45 and Egypt wouldn't listen and God said
9:47 all right if they won't listen to my
9:50 power they'll have to look at my power
9:53 and one by one these tragic terrible
9:56 plagues Came Upon the nation of Egypt
9:58 devastating that great
10:01 nation they still wouldn't listen and
10:02 there comes that
10:07 ominous announcement from Heaven one
10:11 plague more the death of the
10:14 firstborn now we should understand that
10:18 these historical events are spiritual
10:21 lessons I think that no one here today
10:23 will think I'm stretching the scriptures
10:25 when I apply it this way because the
10:28 Bible does this for us you see Egypt is
10:31 a picture of this world
10:34 system in the word of God whenever a Jew
10:37 went to Egypt he always went down
10:39 whenever he went to Canaan land he
10:42 always went up and this geography is
10:44 inspired you go you go to Egypt you go
10:46 to the world and you go
10:50 down when Abraham went down into Egypt
10:52 he got into trouble when the nation
10:55 tried to depend upon Egypt they got into
10:57 trouble Isaiah the prophet said why are
11:00 you leaning upon that broke broken read
11:02 of Egypt Egypt is a picture of this
11:06 world system all around
11:09 us when Moses was delivering his
11:12 farewell address in
11:14 Deuteronomy you must remember that he
11:17 was not going to go over into Canaan
11:19 land because he had disobeyed the Lord
11:21 he forfeited that
11:23 privilege Joshua was going to lead the
11:25 people into Canaan but Moses is making
11:28 the farewell address and Moses is
11:31 preparing the people people for Canaan
11:33 and he says this to them the land that
11:36 you're going into is not like the land
11:39 of Egypt in the land of Egypt you had
11:43 monotony you had these bare stretches of
11:47 desert miles and miles of nothing but
11:48 miles and
11:50 miles but he says the land that you're
11:52 going to go into that God's going to
11:54 give to you is a land of Hills and
11:56 Valleys there's no monotony in the
11:58 Christian life there are days when we're
12:01 on the Mountaintop and we shout
12:02 hallelujah there are days when we're
12:05 down in the valley we can still shout
12:07 hallelujah because the same God is a god
12:09 of the mountains and a god of The
12:11 Valleys he says back in Egypt it was
12:15 such a dry place and regularly the the
12:18 Nile River would belch up the silt and
12:20 they would come out and they would cut
12:22 their irrigation ditches and they would
12:25 raise their cucumbers and their garlic
12:26 and their leaks and their
12:29 onions he says the land of Canaan is not
12:32 like that it doesn't depend upon the
12:35 sewage being belched up it depends upon
12:38 the reain of God from Heaven every good
12:40 gift and every perfect gift is from
12:43 above and so there's a contrast in the
12:46 Bible between the life of God's people
12:50 in their land and the life of people in
12:53 Egypt Egypt's a picture of this
12:56 world monotonous and
12:59 dry and worshiping false
13:02 Gods I think you realize that when these
13:05 various plagues came to Egypt God was
13:08 showing how weak and foolish were the
13:11 gods of Egypt he had declared war
13:16 against this Pantheon of imaginary
13:18 deities that they were worshiping in
13:21 Egypt including Pharaoh including the
13:24 Nile River including bugs and cows and
13:27 all these other things and he says one
13:29 plague more is coming
13:34 coming this world is just like Egypt
13:36 dry and
13:39 monotonous and worshiping false gods I
13:42 speak to some people now who may be
13:46 worshiping a god of gold or steel or
13:52 mortar Pharaoh is a picture of the God
13:54 of this world
13:57 Satan an absolute dictator at Pharaoh's
14:00 word people were killed
14:02 Pharaoh was rebelling against the word
14:04 of God and against the servant of God
14:07 and so here you have the world system
14:11 headed by a world ruler who was a
14:14 God and God says I'm going to come in
14:16 and the firstborn are going to
14:21 die now death the shadow of death was
14:24 over the land of Egypt but it was not
14:26 over the people of Israel because
14:28 through the blood of the Lamb they had
14:30 life and here they were in their little
14:32 houses and fathers and mothers had
14:34 gathered their families together and I
14:37 imagine the first born were very close
14:39 to mother and father that night because the
14:40 the
14:42 firstborn unless they were protected by
14:44 the blood were going to
14:48 die and that night they had life where
14:51 else you wherever else you would look in
14:55 the land of Egypt you'd find death death
14:57 to the first born of the cattle and
14:59 death to the first born of the servants
15:02 and death to the firstborn of pharaoh
15:04 who sat upon the throne there was death
15:06 but not so in the houses of Israel there
15:08 was life now of course we're talking
15:10 here about physical life but all this is
15:14 a picture of spiritual life you see all
15:16 of the first
15:18 born even
15:22 today are dead you say Pastor what do
15:27 you mean by that God rejects our first
15:29 birth throughout the word of God he
15:32 rejects the first birth and accepts the
15:34 second birth when I was born the first
15:38 time I was born into this world system
15:41 born a sinner born under the
15:44 condemnation of God born under the wrath
15:47 of God when I got old enough to know the
15:49 difference between right and wrong I
15:52 deliberately chose the wrong and so did
15:55 you and consequently because of our
15:58 first birth because we are first born
16:00 we're under the condemnation of death
16:04 when you can become second born twice
16:06 born you're no longer under the
16:09 condemnation of death now all this was
16:10 brought about by the
16:13 lamb the little girls and boys came
16:14 running up and they said Daddy how can
16:17 we escape death the death Angel's coming
16:19 tonight how do we escape death that's a
16:22 good question how do you escape Eternal
16:25 death and the answer is the lamb now the
16:27 lamb was
16:31 chosen on the 10th day day and examined
16:39 until the 14th day 10 11 12 13 14 they
16:42 watched the lamb to make sure everything
16:44 about the lamb was perfect it's a
16:45 picture of the Lord Jesus he's the
16:49 chosen of God this is my beloved Son in
16:51 whom I'm well pleased go ahead examine
16:52 him and they
16:55 did his enemies examined him and they
16:57 had to confess they found no fault in
17:01 him pilate said I find no fault in this
17:04 man Judas said I've betrayed innocent
17:07 blood Thomas said my Lord and my God
17:10 even the demons from hell had to say we
17:14 know who you are the Son of God he was
17:16 examined not for 5
17:20 days but for over 30 years his life was
17:22 watched at the end of that time they had
17:25 to hire
17:28 Liars to bear false witness at his trial
17:30 before before they could condemn him my
17:33 friend you can examine this preacher and
17:35 you'll be disappointed you can examine
17:37 this church and you'll be disappointed
17:40 you can examine Jesus Christ all you
17:42 want to and you'll never be disappointed
17:44 he's the perfect lamb now it's not the
17:47 lamb living that saves from Death it's
17:50 the lamb dying the lamb was chosen the
17:54 lamb was examined and the lamb was slain
17:56 I meet these super Pious people who say
17:58 please don't talk about the death of
18:00 Jesus talk about the life of Jesus well
18:03 we do both but the life of Jesus is
18:05 meaningless apart from the death of
18:07 Jesus the Lord Jesus Christ did not come
18:10 to be an example he came to be an
18:13 experation he came to be a sacrifice he
18:14 came to take my
18:17 place they took the little knife and
18:20 they cut the Lamb's throat and that cute
18:22 little creature trembled and then died
18:25 and they caught the blood in the Basin
18:27 and the father says to the firstborn
18:29 this would be your blood blood except
18:32 that the lamb has died in your
18:35 place now my friend you may say I admire
18:38 Jesus the teacher and I appreciate that
18:41 you say I appreciate Jesus Christ the
18:43 moral leader and that's wonderful but
18:45 have you ever come to the cross of Jesus
18:48 Christ where the lamb shed his blood the
18:50 life comes from the shedding of the
18:53 blood the life of the flesh is in the
18:56 blood and when the blood is shed life is
18:59 given and if life is given given for you
19:01 you don't have to die that's the good
19:04 news of the Gospel that Christ died for
19:07 our sins according to the scriptures the
19:09 lamb was
19:11 slain may I say a word to those of you
19:14 who do not like this idea of
19:17 blood we have today people who say well
19:20 it's the ethics of Jesus or the morality
19:24 of Jesus or the the teachings of Jesus
19:26 or the example of Jesus but don't talk
19:29 to us about the death of Jesus would you
19:32 say that to some mother who perhaps
19:35 still has a gold star hanging on the
19:37 wall you say now you talked to me about
19:39 what the soldiers and the sailors and
19:41 the Marines did but don't talk about
19:44 anybody dying we have Liberty today
19:47 because somebody died Liberty is not
19:49 cheap Liberty costs
19:51 something a great man like Winston
19:54 Churchill can stand up and say I have
19:59 nothing to offer you but blood and sweat
20:01 and tears and people applaud he talks
20:03 about blood and they applaud the
20:06 founding fathers can say the tree of
20:08 Liberty must be watered by the blood of
20:11 the martyrs and people say that's great
20:13 but let you say the blood of Jesus
20:16 Christ God's son cleanses us from sin
20:18 people say don't talk about that I say
20:20 people are very inconsistent if you
20:22 enjoy political Liberty it's because
20:26 somebody died died for you if you're
20:28 going to enjoy spiritual Liberty it's
20:31 because somebody died for you Jesus the
20:35 Savior the lamb shed his blood and the
20:37 blood had to be applied have you applied
20:40 the blood have you experienced life it
20:42 takes little imagination to see this
20:46 Jewish Family and their little house and
20:49 midnight arrives and the Death Angel is
20:51 going to pass over Egypt and the little
20:53 boy looks up and says daddy is it all
20:57 right he says son it's all right mother
20:59 is it all it's all right how do you know
21:01 it's all right the blood has been
21:03 applied and when the angel sees the
21:07 blood he'll pass over you see they had
21:11 life because of the death of the lamb
21:13 now I offer to you today spiritual life
21:15 through Jesus Christ this is what the
21:18 Moody Church is all about this is not a
21:21 a an Evangelical Country Club where we
21:24 get together and amuse each other the
21:26 Moody Church is concerned about telling
21:28 people around the world that there's
21:31 light through Jesus Christ and my dear
21:33 friend here today without the Lord Jesus
21:36 Christ you are under the sentence of
21:38 death now the sentence has not been
21:40 executed yet but it will be it's
21:43 appointed unto man once to die and after
21:46 that the Judgment the soul that sinth it
21:51 shall die the wages of sin is death and
21:53 the most tragic thing is not just
21:56 physical death it's that Eternal death
21:59 that that Eternal Darkness and
22:02 separation from God I say to you today
22:05 through Jesus Christ God's lamb you can have
22:06 have
22:09 life he that hath the son hath life he
22:12 that hath not the Son of God hath not
22:15 life he that believeth on him is not
22:17 condemned but he that believeth not is
22:19 condemned already because he hath not
22:21 believed in the name of the only
22:24 begotten Son of God and Jesus said
22:29 except ye believe that I am he
22:32 ye shall die in your
22:34 sins through the death of the Lamb we
22:38 have life and we have Liberty now the
22:39 Jewish people had been in
22:43 bondage generation after generation in
22:46 bondage carrying burdens in the early
22:49 chapters of Exodus when God speaks to
22:51 Moses he said I have looked upon the
22:53 afflictions of the children of Israel I
22:56 see the burdens that they're bearing
22:59 what they were experiencing physically
23:01 multitudes today experience
23:04 spiritually oh my friend the greatest
23:07 burdens that people are carrying today
23:11 are these backbreaking burdens of
23:13 sin there's an interesting statement
23:15 over in Psalm 38
23:17 38
23:21 verse4 in Psalm 38:4 the psalmist says
23:24 my sins have gone over my
23:28 head like a burden
23:32 I'm carrying them the burden of sin we
23:34 sing in one of our gospel songs would
23:37 you be free from the burden of sin
23:39 there's power in the blood Power in the
23:41 Blood it's the blood of the Lamb that
23:42 gives us
23:45 Liberty now people today are carrying
23:47 many different kinds of
23:49 burdens there is as I've mentioned the
23:52 burden of sin somebody listening to me
23:54 just now says Pastor there's there's sin
23:57 in my life I wake up in the morning and
23:59 I realize I'm going to carry that load
24:02 of sin my conscience is
24:06 dirty I feel guilty I feel afraid what
24:08 can I do about it well the answer is
24:10 Jesus Christ when you come to the lamb
24:12 he takes away the burden of
24:16 sin in bunhill field in London right
24:19 across from Wesley's Chapel is a
24:23 cemetery in this Cemetery many of the
24:27 Great Patriots and uh Puritans are buried
24:29 buried
24:33 and uh John Bunyan's grave is there John
24:34 bunan you'll remember wrote the
24:37 Pilgrim's Progress a book that probably
24:39 second only to the Bible in terms of
24:41 spiritual influence you remember in
24:44 Pilgrim's Progress Pilgrim is carrying
24:47 this awful burden he tries every way to
24:49 get rid of this burden he tries to climb
24:53 the hill of legality but the law can't
24:54 take away his burden and it keeps
24:57 getting heavier and heavier and finally
25:00 evangelist says to him do you see that
25:02 Wicked gate over there you go through
25:04 that little narrow gate and see what
25:06 happens and he goes to the gate and he
25:08 sees the
25:11 cross and the burden rolls off of his
25:13 back and into the empty tomb it's gone
25:16 forever as you walk into bunhill field
25:21 you see the tomb of um John bunan on one
25:25 side engraved his Pilgrim carrying his
25:28 awful burden you can almost feel it when
25:31 you go to the other side of the Grave
25:34 the burden has rolled off and Pilgrim
25:37 stands there in Liberty now that can
25:39 happen to
25:41 you there are some people listening to
25:43 me just now who don't have the burden of
25:46 some awful kind of sin maybe your burden
25:50 is um
25:55 yourself job says in job 7: 20 I am a
25:57 burdened to
25:59 myself not I can appreciate that with
26:03 job because he was sick and rejected and
26:05 suffering but I speak to some people
26:07 right now who say Pastor you've touched
26:10 my need I'm a burden to myself I hate
26:14 myself oh I do things I wish I didn't do
26:16 and I don't do things I ought to do and
26:18 I'm a burden to myself can I be changed
26:20 of course you can that's what
26:22 salvation's all about he brings you life
26:25 and he brings you Liberty he can free
26:28 you from this awful burden of self
26:32 Jesus said one day come unto me all ye
26:34 that labor and heavy laden and I will
26:37 give you rest take my yoke upon you and
26:40 learn of me for I am meek and lowly in
26:42 heart and you shall find rest under your
26:44 souls I meet people who are burdened not
26:48 by sin and not by self by
26:50 religion you see when Jesus made that
26:52 statement he was looking out across the
26:55 marketplace at capernium and here were
26:58 people trying to keep up with the
26:59 religion of their
27:02 day and he said oh that religion that
27:05 they've given to you is such a burden
27:07 God never meant it to be a burden the
27:10 Pharisees had taken the Simplicity of
27:12 the word of God and turned it into the
27:15 complexity of a machine that was
27:20 grinding out people and grinding on
27:22 people I say to you my friend if
27:24 whatever religion you're practicing is a
27:27 burden it's not from God God never meant
27:28 it to be that way he meant it to be a
27:31 blessing and Jesus said come to me you
27:34 who are burdened down with the cares of
27:37 this world with the cares of religion
27:40 and get rid of that burden and take my
27:42 yoke on you my yoke is
27:46 easy his Commandments are not Grievous
27:49 and my burden is light and when you give
27:52 your burden to me and I give myself to
27:54 you together we're going to go through
28:01 that Passover night was a night that
28:04 brought to them life and it brought to them
28:06 them
28:08 Liberty it's tragic that people today
28:10 don't have the Liberty that Jesus wants
28:14 them to have Jesus said one day if the
28:18 son s o n shall make you free you shall
28:21 be free indeed he said you can't be made
28:23 free by religion you can't be made free
28:25 by your own good works I can make you
28:27 free how does he do it he says ye shall
28:28 know the truth truth and the truth shall
28:31 make you free in other words Jesus
28:34 Christ who is the truth uses the truth
28:36 of his word to set us
28:39 free the thing that has got people into
28:43 bondage is lying lying always means
28:45 bondage and people are believing the
28:48 devil's lies Jesus came to this earth
28:51 and he said God is a father God is not a
28:53 hateful judge who wants to make your
28:55 life miserable God is a father who wants
28:59 to bless you and they crucified him for
29:02 that he says God wants to forgive your
29:05 sins if you'll just trust he'll forgive
29:12 that he said God wants to move into your
29:15 life and change you and they crucified
29:16 him for
29:19 that you see my friend when the truth
29:21 comes you either accept the truth and it
29:24 changes you or you fight the truth and
29:27 it destroys you they tried to destroy
29:28 Jesus Christ but you can't keep the
29:30 truth down on the third day he arose
29:33 from the dead and he's alive today and
29:36 he wants to give you Liberty Paul wrote
29:38 to the Galatians and said Stand Fast
29:41 therefore in the Liberty where withth
29:43 Christ hath made us free and be not
29:46 entangled again with that yoke of
29:48 bondage please don't come and sell your
29:51 religion to me I have Jesus Christ I
29:53 don't need religion please don't come
29:56 and give me your code of ethics I don't
29:58 need that I have Jesus Christ and he has

30:30 the third blessing that we receive from
30:34 the death of the Lamb life liberty and
30:36 the pursuit of happiness now Israel had
30:40 no future in Egypt
30:44 none Fathers and Sons would toil out
30:47 there building cities and building
30:50 pyramids and building grain
30:52 pits and another generation would come
30:54 along and pick up where they left off
30:58 and start moving the stones and building
31:00 they had no future in Egypt and you have
31:03 no future in this
31:05 world the only future that anybody can
31:08 have is through Jesus Christ you see the
31:10 unsaved person's life is controlled by the
31:12 the
31:15 past you are Shackled to the
31:18 past the Christian's life is controlled
31:20 by the future in Philippians chapter 3
31:22 Paul says forgetting those things which
31:24 are behind my sins have been washed away
31:26 all of those mistakes and those awful
31:28 things they're gone forgetting those
31:30 things which are behind I'm reaching
31:33 forth to the things which are before I'm
31:35 pressing toward the mark for the prize
31:37 of the High Calling of God in Christ
31:40 Jesus I'm looking for him and pressing
31:42 toward him the Christian's life has a
31:45 great future ahead of it and so when the
31:48 lamb was slain for the Jewish people not
31:50 only did it bring to them life they
31:53 didn't die that night it brought to them
31:54 Liberty they were set free from the
31:57 bondage of Egypt and it brought to them
31:59 the pursuit of happiness in order to
32:01 make them know that God had a great
32:03 future he said let's have a feast can
32:06 you imagine having a feast on a night
32:08 when people were dying all around you
32:10 they were having
32:13 funerals in the in the Egyptian homes
32:14 they were
32:18 feasting in the Jewish homes the same
32:22 lamb that gave them life and Liberty
32:25 sustained them and satisfied them they
32:27 fed on the Lamb by the way do you feed
32:29 on the
32:31 lamb you say how do you feed on the lamb
32:33 through the word of
32:35 God as you and I get into the word of
32:38 God and meditate on it and pray over it
32:41 and appropriate it we're feeding on the
32:42 lamb someone says Pastor I'd like to
32:44 become a Christian I'm afraid I can't
32:47 hold out don't you worry about that the
32:51 same lamb who dies for you sustains you
32:53 and Moses said you feed on this roasted
32:58 lamb Jesus went through the fire for you
33:00 today we're going to be observing the
33:02 Lord's Supper a reminder of what he did
33:06 for us and that lamb was roast in the
33:08 fire and Jesus went through the fires of
33:12 judgment for you and me and now we feed
33:14 upon him having trusted him as our
33:17 savior we feed upon him as our spiritual
33:19 sustenance and so here's the Jewish
33:22 Family with their unleavened bread with
33:25 their bitter herbs have you forgotten
33:27 how bitter it was when you lived in the
33:30 the world I trust that nobody here is
33:34 like the few Jews at The Exodus who said
33:36 let's go back let's go back oh let's go
33:39 back to Egypt Moses said when you
33:41 observe Passover have some bitter herbs
33:43 there you dip that bread in the bitter
33:45 herbs and eat it remind yourself of how
33:49 bitter it was to be in bondage in Egypt
33:51 oh dear Christian friend have you
33:52 forgotten how bitter it was when you
33:55 were living in sin have you forgotten
33:57 the hangovers have you forgotten the
33:59 headaches I hope you
34:01 haven't there's one sense in which we
34:04 forget the sins of the past there's
34:05 another sense in which we
34:08 remember that we were once bondsmen in
34:11 the land of Egypt and God came and
34:14 delivered us by his great power The
34:16 Pursuit of Happiness Moses said now
34:18 you're going to eat this meal like
34:19 you've never eaten any other meal put
34:22 your shoes on get a hold of your staff
34:24 you're going someplace this is just the
34:27 beginning when you trust the lamb that's
34:29 not the the end it's just the beginning
34:31 God's going to open the way for you
34:33 God's going to lead you a step at a time
34:35 and it's going to be one happy
34:37 experience after another oh you say what
34:41 those Jews went through yes this is true
34:44 God brings us into Times of testing and
34:47 God brings us into Times of
34:49 difficulty but we don't mind it because
34:52 he's with us and he's preparing us and
34:54 he's blessing us and The Best Is Yet To
34:57 Come and we keep moving more and more
35:00 toward what he has for us the pursuit of
35:02 happiness now happiness is not something
35:05 you go out and buy happiness is not
35:08 something you manufacture happiness is a
35:11 byproduct happiness comes to you when
35:13 you're in the will of God if you have
35:15 Jesus Christ as your savior you have
35:18 life spiritual life now if you don't
35:20 have this life I plead with you come
35:23 today to receive him you have Liberty He
35:26 Set You Free from law He Set You Free
35:28 from the power of sin in through faith
35:31 in him we can live in liberty and the
35:33 pursuit of happiness the path of the
35:35 justice is The Shining Light that
35:38 shineth more and more under the perfect
35:40 day it just keeps getting better and
35:42 better and better someone says oh Pastor
35:44 my way is getting darker and darker just
35:47 wait God has something for you the
35:50 burdens are so heavy lean upon the Lord
35:52 roll them upon the Lord I would rather
35:55 be carrying burdens following the Lord
35:57 than be carrying burdens in the land of
36:00 egy Egypt I would rather be one of God's
36:04 free men serving him than serving sin and
36:06 and
36:08 Satan this is what Passover is all about
36:12 it means life it means Liberty and it
36:14 means the pursuit of happiness it means
36:17 feasting and feeding and following and
36:20 God opening the way and God providing every
36:21 every
36:26 need now you and I were born into
36:29 Liberty what I was born as a citizen of
36:31 this great country I was born into
36:33 Liberty but that's not true spiritually
36:35 when you and I were born into this world
36:38 we were born into bondage bondage to the
36:41 world and to the Flesh and to sin when
36:43 you're born again through faith in the
36:45 lamb who died for you then you
36:48 experience life and then you experience
36:50 Liberty and then you have this wonderful
36:54 joyful Christian walk in the pursuit of
36:56 happiness but there's one thing you have
36:58 to do
37:00 you have to make it
37:03 personal you have to make it
37:05 personal say how do you how do you do
37:09 that in in Exodus 12 I'm noticing verses
37:10 3 and
37:13 4 there's a sequence
37:16 here a
37:20 lamb the
37:24 lamb your lamb you see
37:28 that a lamb all you say Jesus Christ is
37:31 a lamb he's one of many great spiritual
37:34 leaders that'll never save you the lamb
37:36 oh you say I believe he is the Lamb of
37:39 God that'll never save you you've got to
37:45 be able to say he's my lamb Moses said
37:49 your lamb is he your
37:53 lamb you say yes I have trusted him then
37:57 enjoy the life enjoy the Liberty enjoy
38:00 the happiness that he brings you say no
38:02 he's not my lamb why not well I've never
38:04 trusted him then trust
38:08 him say with us today oh Lamb of God I
38:10 come by faith apply the blood to your
38:14 own heart and you too will experience
38:17 because of him life eternal life
38:22 Abundant Life Heavenly life
38:30 gracious father our prayer is that many
38:33 hearing this message will respond by
38:37 faith and trust Christ as their
38:39 savior it's nothing we can do of
38:41 ourselves oh God you must do it through
38:45 your holy spirit so speak to Hearts now
38:47 and may those who have never trusted the
38:52 Savior trust him now we ask it in jesus'
