0:02 today we're talking about that time that
0:04 American mayor may not have prematurely
0:06 ended the Gulf War by creating a new
0:08 type of Bunker Buster bomb known as the
0:10 gbu-28 which is literally the barrel of
0:12 a Howitzer that they filled full of
0:14 explosives and dropped on the enemy yeah
0:16 Uncle Sam ran out of ammo and threw the
0:23 but first award for more sponsored this video
0:24 video
0:26 Warwood tools where for over 160 years
0:28 they've been making crowbars and axes
0:31 and sledgehammers right here in America
0:33 with American grown wood and
0:35 American-made 1060 high carbon steel and
0:36 I'm gonna have their Link in a discount
0:38 code in the description Down Below in
0:39 case you wanted to check them out let's
0:40 get to this story all right buckle up
0:42 that's gonna be history lesson in half
0:45 Once Upon a Time on August 2nd 1990 Iraq
0:47 decides to invade Kuwait why would Iraq
0:49 want to do this well Iraq just got done
0:50 having an eight year long war with Iran
0:52 and Kuwait helped fund it if so facto
0:55 Iraq owes Kuwait billions and billions
0:56 of dollars rather than pay all that
0:58 money back Iraq's penis potato I mean
1:00 cockstar I mean dick Tater Iraq's
1:02 dictator Saddam Hussein figures rather
1:03 than pay back all that money I'm just
1:05 going to invade Kuwait with my enormous
1:07 Army that's the fourth largest army on
1:09 the planet at this point in time take
1:10 over Kuwait and then I won't know
1:12 anybody any money it's not ethical but
1:13 it does make sense and then pretty much
1:15 nothing happened for like three months
1:17 but then in November of 1990 Saddam
1:18 Hussein would do what dictators do best
1:21 and get a little too greedy you see he
1:22 figured now that he was in control of
1:24 Iraq and Kuwait it was a significant
1:26 portion of the world's oil supply so he
1:28 could actually slow down oil production
1:30 which would jack up Global fuel prices
1:32 and he would literally make more money
1:34 for doing less work and while that was
1:36 economically sound it would turn out to
1:38 be a tactical [ __ ] error because as
1:40 soon as gas prices went up the entire
1:43 planet looked at Saddam Hussein like so
1:46 you have chosen death the U.N security
1:48 Council would then hold another meeting
1:49 where they would decide to tell Saddam
1:52 Hussein you have until January 15 1991
1:54 to be out of Kuwait or you will be
1:56 forcibly removed fast forward to January
1:58 15th he is elected to not leave Kuwait
2:00 game on teams are now set we have Iraq
2:04 versus America and a team of [ __ ]
2:05 literally everyone else fast forward
2:08 again like 48 hours January 17th 2 30
2:10 A.M American and Coalition forces will
2:12 begin their air campaign against Iraq
2:15 and there will be over 1 000 aircrafts
2:18 involved everything from B-52s to Apache
2:19 Attack Helicopters it's going to be a
2:21 Warheads on foreheads Extravaganza and
2:23 just for context on how dangerous this
2:25 mission is actually going to be because
2:26 I feel like most people don't know or
2:28 don't understand how powerful the Iraqi
2:30 military actually was at this point in
2:32 time they were the fourth largest
2:34 military on the planet and they were the
2:37 most heavily fortified Nation on Earth
2:40 as far as air defense goes Iraq had 154
2:42 surface-to-air missile sites servicing
2:46 16 000 missiles 972 anti-aircraft
2:49 artillery platforms 2 400 anti-aircraft
2:53 guns 6 000 mobile anti-aircraft guns 478
2:56 early warning radar arrays and 558
2:59 combat aircraft on standby all ready to
3:01 get in a fight that being said fast
3:02 forward again two and a half hours
3:05 January 17th 5 A.M American and
3:07 Coalition forces have complete air
3:08 superiority over Iraq and have
3:10 dismantled all of that [ __ ] and this is
3:11 where the main problem arises with
3:13 complete air superiority there's a good
3:15 chance that they can actually make Iraq
3:16 surrender without U.S and Coalition
3:19 Ground Forces having to go into Iraq but
3:21 the problem is the majority of the Iraqi
3:22 senior leadership as well as pretty much
3:24 their entire command and control
3:26 infrastructure is located inside of
3:28 bunkers right outside of Baghdad and
3:30 these Bonkers are 30 to 50 feet
3:31 underground and the walls are made out
3:34 of four feet thick reinforced concrete
3:36 there's no bomb or weapon that America
3:38 has that they can use from a plane to
3:40 take out these bunkers so America is
3:41 going to do the last thing you ever want
3:44 America to do they're gonna improvise I
3:45 mean the obvious Solutions just to make
3:47 a bigger better bunker Buster bomb but
3:48 the problem with that is they don't have
3:50 any infrastructure to make a bigger bomb
3:52 and they're not going to be able to
3:53 build that infrastructure and build the
3:55 bomb and the amount of time it's going
3:57 to take before American ground troops
3:59 invade Iraq because once they do they're
4:00 going to be in a hurry because they're
4:02 under the command of four-star Army
4:05 General stormin Norman Schwarzkopf aka
4:07 the bear a man whose life motto was when
4:10 placed in command take charge and he
4:11 does not think highly of his adversary
4:13 when asked what he thought about Saddam
4:15 Hussein he said and I quote you know
4:17 what no he'll say it as far as Saddam
4:19 Hussein being a great military
4:21 strategist he is neither a strategist
4:24 nor is he schooled in the operational
4:27 art nor is he a tactician nor is he a
4:29 general nor is he as a soldier other
4:31 than that he's a great military man I
4:33 want you to know so they have to make
4:34 this bomb in a hurry if they want to
4:35 prevent ground forces from going into
4:37 Iraq that's when somebody has the
4:38 brilliant idea of using a Howitzer
4:40 Barrel as the bomb's halt I mean it
4:42 should work it's a long heavy piece of
4:43 metal that's already heat treated so it
4:45 should penetrate concrete and that's the
4:47 idea they roll with the Air Force gets a
4:49 hold of the US Army the U.S army sends
4:51 over four eight inch decommissioned m110
4:53 Howitzer barrels to Watervliet Arsenal
4:55 in New York Watervliet Arsenal being one
4:56 of the most elite Gun Barrel
4:59 manufacturers on the planet gets to work
5:01 immediately they start milling and
5:02 machining these barrels down to size so
5:04 that they can fit fit pre-existing bomb
5:06 components like nose cones and fins and
5:08 so on and watervlade Arsenal tells the
5:10 US Air Force they can have four of these
5:12 bombs done in a week which I cannot
5:14 stress to you enough is absolutely
5:17 insane to be able to machine four gun
5:20 barrels that are 19 feet long and weigh
5:23 4 500 pounds each and are already heat
5:26 treated is incredible if you don't know
5:27 about Heat Treating when you heat treat
5:30 metal it becomes significantly harder
5:31 and that's actually why they needed the
5:33 Howitzer battles but it also makes it
5:35 virtually impossible to machine I mean
5:37 not impossible but significantly harder
5:39 to machine think about like trying to
5:41 spread butter on toast versus trying to
5:43 spread Frozen butter on toast that's
5:45 about the difference there so they get
5:46 the first bomb done but then they run
5:48 into a problem because they've never
5:49 worked with a bomb this big they don't
5:51 have any way to actually stand it up
5:53 straight and be able to fill it with
5:55 explosive so if you can't pick a bomb up
5:57 what do you do you beat the Earth down
5:59 they take it outside dig a hole stick
6:02 the bomb in the hole standing up so that
6:03 they can fill this thing with explore
6:05 explosive they get that done paint it
6:07 stick it on a C-130 while the paint is
6:09 still wet and ship it to Nevada from
6:10 there they strap the bomb to an F-111
6:12 the same plane they plan on dropping it
6:14 from in combat and do a test run this
6:17 bomb penetrates the desert floor by over
6:18 a hundred feet okay if you're not
6:20 American that's like the world's biggest
6:22 blue whale all the way into the ground
6:24 this bomb went so deep that they didn't
6:25 even have time to recover it they're
6:27 like [ __ ] it we don't have time storming
6:28 Norman's coming we gotta go just leave
6:30 it then back at Watervliet Arsenal they
6:32 finished the second bomb this time they
6:34 fill it with concrete because they want
6:36 to do a rocket sled test in aglin air
6:38 base in Florida so they get this thing
6:40 done fill it with concrete put it on a
6:42 C-130 while the paint's still wet ship
6:43 it to Florida from there they strap it
6:47 to a rocket sled and yet it at 22 solid
6:49 feet of reinforced concrete just to see
6:51 how far it will penetrate not only did
6:54 this bomb penetrate all 22 feet of
6:56 concrete but it then proceeded to go an
6:58 extra half a mile this video should have
7:00 been my [ __ ] Valentine's Day special
7:02 with how much penetration is in it it's
7:04 incredible so so then back at Watervliet
7:06 Arsenal they finished the last two
7:07 actual bombs that are going to be
7:09 dropped in combat put them on a C-130
7:11 again and ship them across the planet to
7:13 Iraq now bear in mind all of this has
7:15 happened in like a matter of three weeks
7:17 they have gone from retired Howitzer
7:19 barrels to new bombs to testing them in
7:21 Nevada to testing them in Florida to
7:24 having them in an active combat zone in
7:26 three weeks which is the biggest
7:28 logistical Flex I may have ever heard of
7:31 nothing Stokes human creativity greater
7:32 than the desire to kill somebody that
7:34 you don't like I'm not saying it's right
7:35 but God damn it it's the truth now
7:37 February 27th these bombs are strapped
7:40 to two F-111 aardvarks and they are sent
7:42 into combat to engage these bunkers the
7:44 first F-111 lines up his shot and he
7:53 but the second F-111 drains a
7:55 three-pointer and gets a direct hit
7:57 smoke immediately starts rolling out of
7:58 the vents for this bunker and it is
8:04 and the very next day Saddam Hussein
8:06 would sign a ceasefire and agreed to
8:08 leave Kuwait now did he do that because
8:10 of this bunker Buster bomb that part is
8:12 actually impossible to say because
8:14 despite the fact they got this bomb done
8:16 and dropped in only three weeks they
8:17 still were unable to get it done quick
8:19 enough before U.S and Coalition ground
8:21 forces would invade Iraq and in the four
8:23 days that those ground forces were in
8:25 Iraq they completely decimated the Iraqi
8:27 Army and parts of that Army were already
8:29 starting to surrender to them so whether
8:31 the reason that Saddam Hussein decided
8:32 to surrender was because his army Was
8:35 Defeated or because he finally found out
8:36 that he couldn't hide inside of his
8:38 bunker anymore safe while he sent men
8:40 out to die is hard to say but regardless
8:42 in conclusion the overall moral of this
8:45 story is whatever you do try not to
8:46 raise gas prices thanks for watching
