0:02 My friends, welcome to this episode of
0:04 the Outdoor Gear Review. I hope you all
0:06 are doing well. What I have here today,
0:08 everyone, is a very lightweight sleeping
0:11 bag that I've already begun testing out,
0:13 and I can tell you all this, so far, I'm
0:15 impressed. This comes from NatureHike,
0:18 and this is their ultralight backpacking
0:19 sleeping bag. That's right, folks. This
0:22 is a hybrid product. It's a sleeping
0:24 bag. At the same time, it's a quilt.
0:26 It's also a blanket. You can basically
0:28 use this any way that you want to. in a
0:30 tent, in a hammock, in your vehicle, so
0:32 on and so forth. When it's warm out, you
0:34 can use it as a blanket and lay it over
0:36 you. You can use it as a quilt, make a
0:38 foot box, stick your feet in, do that.
0:40 Or when it's cooler out, you can use it
0:42 as a sleeping bag. In this episode, I'll
0:44 be going over my impressions of this
0:47 product so far based upon the use that I
0:49 have with it so far. With that being
0:51 said, everyone, let's begin. To start
0:53 off here, everyone, let's take a look at
0:56 the compression bag. So on the bottom we
0:58 have a grab tab so you can easily pull
0:59 out the sleeping bag, the quilt,
1:01 whatever you want to call it. Around the
1:04 body here we have compression straps.
1:07 There are three of them. One of them has
1:10 a Duraflex buckle.
1:12 It should be mentioned everyone, this
1:15 compresses nicely. When this is fully
1:17 compressed, you're looking at about 9 in
1:21 long, 7 in wide. That is very
1:23 impressive. Pulling back the top here,
1:26 we have a draw pull.
1:29 And now we can use that grab tab at the
1:32 bottom to pull out
1:34 the blanket. What I have here, everyone,
1:38 is a mesh storage bag that is included
1:40 with this sleeping bag. This is for
1:41 storing the blanket when you're not
1:43 using it. That way, you don't have to
1:45 leave it compressed for long periods of
1:47 time, which you wouldn't want to do
1:49 because this is a down product. Speaking
1:51 of which, you're looking at it now in
1:54 sleeping bag mode. With this quilt here,
1:55 it has a number of features that are
1:57 quite important. First off, we have a
2:00 zipper that goes all the way around.
2:02 That way, you can open this up fully.
2:04 You can use it as a blanket. You can
2:06 also use it as a quilt if you want to,
2:08 or you can zip it up and use it as a
2:09 sleeping bag. What we have here is a
2:11 two-way zipper. We have a zipper up at
2:13 the top and a zipper at the bottom. We
2:15 also have a zipper lock which will
2:17 secure the zipper so that it doesn't
2:19 come undone as you're sleeping inside of
2:22 this tossing and turning. Up at the top
2:24 here, we also have a draw pull so that
2:27 we can cinch this up with this blanket,
2:29 this sleeping bag, this quilt, whatever
2:31 you want to call it. It does not have a
2:33 hood. Additionally, at the bottom here,
2:36 we have two loops. That way, you can
2:38 hang this up and store it that way if
2:40 you want to, or you can use the mesh
2:42 storage bag that's included. So again
2:45 everyone, this is the sleeping bag mode.
2:46 Let's switch this over to the blanket
2:59 You saw there everyone just how smooth
3:02 that zipper is. The reason why it is so
3:04 smooth is because it's a very high
3:07 quality zipper. That's a YKK zipper.
3:08 Speaking of which, when it comes to this
3:11 product, Nature Hike spared no expense.
3:13 We're talking about the best of the best
3:16 in terms of hardware and also zippers.
3:18 And the materials themselves are also
3:20 very good. I'll go into more detail
3:23 about those in just a minute. With this
3:24 quilt being laid out, you could see that
3:27 it has vertical channels for the down.
3:29 That's right, everyone. This is a
3:32 downfilled quilt, sleeping bag, blanket.
3:34 That means it's going to be incredibly
3:37 warm and at the same time very, very lightweight.
3:39 lightweight.
3:41 So, this is the outside. you would be
3:51 This is the inside which is virtually
3:54 the same as the outside. There is a
3:56 slight material difference. The outside
3:58 material has a sheen to it whereas on
4:02 the inside it is very much a flat color.
4:04 We've seen this in sleeping bag mode.
4:05 We've also seen this in the blanket
4:08 mode. Now let's convert this over to a
4:11 quilt. To do that, you could take one of
4:24 And then just like that, you have a
4:27 quilt. You can also go into quilt mode
4:30 another way. Basically, you take both zippers
4:32 zippers
4:35 and you run them up to the top of the quilt.
4:45 From here you cinch down the top
4:50 and then you use it upside down.
4:53 And what we have is simply another way
4:55 to make the quilt. It should be
4:58 mentioned everyone the outer fabric has
5:00 been treated with a DWR. So it is water
5:02 repellent. So if you get any water on
5:04 the outer shell, this is going to be
5:06 absolutely fine. it will beat up and
5:08 roll off. That everyone is a nice
5:10 feature. Now everyone, it's time to go
5:13 over some stats. This is available in
5:16 two colors, blue and also green. It is
5:18 available in five different versions.
5:20 And I have to admit, I'm confused by
5:22 this. I can make sense of the Amazon
5:25 listing as far as four of the versions
5:28 go. Two I'm certain about, two I'm
5:30 fairly certain about, and one it's a
5:33 complete mystery. On Amazon, there's one
5:37 listing for all five products. And the
5:39 simple fact is there's not enough
5:42 information there to distinguish what
5:43 you're looking at. With the blue ones,
5:46 it's clear there's a smaller size and
5:47 there's a larger size. This is the
5:51 larger size. With the green, I believe
5:53 what they're saying is there's a smaller
5:55 size and a larger size, but there's also
5:58 a fifth option. It's blue, and I don't
6:00 know what I'm looking at. There's just
6:02 not enough information there to tell you
6:04 why it's different. Naturehike, you need
6:07 to fix your Amazon listing because it is
6:10 super confusing. So again, everyone,
6:11 there's two different sizes when it
6:13 comes to the store dimensions. The
6:16 larger, this one here, it measures 9 in
6:19 by roughly 7 in. That is very compact
6:21 for a quilt for a product like this.
6:23 When it comes to the unfolded sleeping
6:26 bag dimensions, it is 78.7 in long and
6:28 it measures 31 12 in. The smaller
6:33 version is 74.8 in x 28.3 in. If you
6:35 unfold the sleeping bag into a blanket,
6:38 basically it's twice as wide, which is
6:41 really wide for a product like this. The
6:43 weight of the larger size is 1.7 lb on
6:46 my scale. According to NatureHike, the
6:48 weight of the smaller size is 1.3 lb.
6:50 The larger version here is also the
6:52 warmest version. It has a comfort rating
6:56 of 42° F. The smaller version again is
6:58 not quite as warm as this one. The
7:00 comfort rating is 51.8°.
7:01 When it comes to the insulation, that's
7:05 a 650 fill down. The outer material is a
7:08 20 daer nylon. The inside material is a
7:11 400T nylon. We have Duraflex buckles, a
7:13 YKK zipper. When it comes to price, at
7:15 the time of filming on Amazon, the blue
7:18 version here, the larger size is $99.
7:22 The smaller size is $67.91. Both green
7:24 versions are similar in price to the
7:26 blue one here, but there is that fifth
7:30 option and for some reason it is $19.
7:33 Why? I do not know. Again, everybody,
7:35 the Amazon listing for these products is
7:38 very confusing and I have no idea what
7:40 Naturehike is doing there with all five
7:42 options. I simply do not know what that
7:45 fifth option is. And to be frank, I'm
7:47 not 100% sure about the green one
7:49 either. I'm guessing that's because only
7:52 with the two blue versions, the larger
7:54 and the smaller, is it clear what you're
7:56 getting with the two green and that
7:58 fifth weird blue option. It's just not
8:00 clear. When it comes to my use of this
8:02 product so far, I've had this out for
8:04 one trip. During that trip, in the
8:05 middle of the night, the temp dropped
8:08 down to roughly 55°,
8:10 but it was an incredibly warm night that
8:13 actually cooled down nicely. So, I
8:14 started off the night using this as a
8:17 blanket. As I got cooler, I zipped it up
8:19 and I used it as a sleeping bag. For
8:21 both purposes, it worked incredibly
8:23 well. As I mentioned before, the
8:26 temperature rating of this is 42°.
8:27 That's the comfort rating.
8:29 Unfortunately, it's unlikely that it's
8:32 going to be that cool anytime soon.
8:36 Possibly as I go up in elevation, maybe.
8:37 Either way, more testing needs to be
8:39 done with this product to see whether or
8:42 not the temperature rating is accurate.
8:44 As it stands now, I believe it is. I see
8:47 no reason why it would not be. As far as
8:50 the quality goes for this, this is very,
8:52 very good. I've looked this over rather
8:55 extensively and I've only found two
8:59 loose threads, which is not bad at all
9:01 considering how much stitch work goes
9:04 into a product like this.
9:08 The quality here is very good.
9:11 The materials are also very good.
9:12 Something that we should talk about
9:14 though, and it's something that you
9:16 should consider with any downfilled
9:20 product is down loss. When you have a
9:22 sleeping bag, a quilt, a blanket with
9:24 down, you will experience some down
9:26 loss. And what that is, what I'm talking
9:28 about specifically is when the down
9:31 feathers come through the material, the
9:32 shell material. Again, this is going to
9:34 happen with any type of downfield
9:36 product. But with that being said, some
9:38 products are worse than others. With
9:42 this here, there is some down loss.
9:44 After my night out with this, I
9:46 experienced, well, I should say I found
9:48 three down feathers, which is not bad,
9:50 but I was able just to right now pull
9:53 out an additional feather. So, yes,
9:55 there is going to be some down loss with
9:57 this product. How bad is it going to be?
9:59 I don't know yet, to be honest. That is
10:01 something that I still need to test out.
10:03 As it stands right now, it doesn't look
10:05 bad, but without a doubt, some feathers
10:07 are coming through. So, I will test that
10:09 out and I will report back in my
10:11 ultimate review. This is very much a
10:13 preview of this product. Something else
10:17 that I can't report on yet is value. At
10:20 $100, in my opinion, already this is a
10:23 fair price, but ultimately the value of
10:25 this product depends on whether or not
10:27 the temperature rating is accurate. at
10:30 42°. With this being $100 filled with
10:33 down, the value there would be awesome,
10:35 but we have to test it out in those
10:38 cooler conditions first. Next, everyone,
10:42 is this lightweight? Yes, it is. This is
10:43 impressively lightweight for the
10:45 temperature rating that it has. I mean,
10:47 it really is. If the temperature rating
10:51 is accurate at 1.7 lb for $100, this is
10:53 very impressive. This is a product that
10:55 certainly does not take up much space
10:57 inside of your backpack when it's
10:59 stuffed in the storage bag. The fact
11:01 that you get the mesh storage bag with
11:03 this kit is really nice. Something else
11:05 that's really nice is the storage bag
11:08 for this system, the compression bag. It
11:10 does a fantastic job of compressing
11:12 this. And get this, this is actually
11:14 large enough to get this sleeping bag
11:17 back inside of it with no struggle. That
11:20 everyone is amazing. Finally, a company
11:22 has caught on. Finally, you would be
11:24 surprised, everyone, at how many
11:25 companies that make sleeping bags that
11:27 get this wrong. They will make these
11:29 storage bags so small that you can
11:31 barely get your sleeping bag back into
11:34 it, which is ridiculous. When using this
11:36 as a sleeping bag, it works perfectly
11:38 and it's very comfortable. When using
11:40 this as a blanket, it works perfectly
11:42 and it's very much comfortable. I have
11:45 not used this as a quilt yet, so I will
11:46 report back on that. With that being
11:48 said though, I do not see any reason why
11:51 it would not be comfortable as well.
11:53 Obviously, this is a very versatile
11:55 product and you can use this any way
11:58 that you want to. Sleeping bag, quilt,
12:00 blanket, an over quilt. You really can't
12:02 use this as an under quilt with your
12:04 hammock setup. It just does not have the
12:06 proper attachment points. Certainly in a
12:08 hammock, you can lay this over the top
12:10 of you or crawl inside of it or use it
12:13 as a quilt inside of your vehicle. Of
12:14 course, it works the same way as inside
12:17 of a tent. For all of these purposes,
12:19 it's going to work well, I believe. With
12:21 all of that being said, I'm done.
12:23 There's nothing else for me to report at
12:25 this point in time. Coming up in the
12:26 future, you will find my ultimate
12:29 review, and it may be going towards the
12:31 fall. Ultimately, it depends on the
12:32 temperatures that I can get this out
12:36 into. Hopefully, I can head up high and
12:38 we'll hit the 40° range, but we will
12:40 see. So far everyone, it looks to me
12:43 like NatureHike has a hit on their hands
12:45 with this product. The quality is good.
12:47 It's very versatile. It's very
12:49 lightweight, very compressible. It's
12:51 warm. Also adjustable for warmer
12:53 conditions. You can use it as a blanket.
12:55 As it stands right now, I should put it
12:57 this way. It checks off all of the
12:59 boxes. But I do have questions about the
13:01 temperature rating. Is it correct? And
13:03 two, how much down loss is there going
13:06 to be? That is a big question. Already
13:13 It's not terrible, but it is more than I
13:18 would like to see, but more testing
13:20 needs to be done, that's for sure.
13:22 Comment down below, everyone, and share
13:23 your thoughts. What do you all think
13:26 about the Nature Hike blanket quilt
13:29 sleeping bag? So far, I'm very impressed
13:30 with this product. I think it's going to
13:32 perform really well this summer. If
13:36 you're considering this, make sure to
13:38 really consider the width options,
13:40 right? There are two of them. This is
13:43 the wider version. For myself, this
13:45 works perfectly. It's wide enough at the
13:47 shoulders where I do not feel
13:49 constricted inside of it. I personally
13:51 can't stand that feeling when a sleeping
13:54 bag is really tight around my shoulders.
13:55 Luckily, with this product here, I do
13:57 not have that issue. So, do make sure to
13:59 consider the size options before you
14:01 make your purchase if you decide this is
14:02 something that you're interested in.
14:05 Nature hike, fix those freaking Amazon
14:08 listings. They are so confusing. All
14:10 you're doing is just hurting yourself.
14:12 So, make sure to address those. If you
14:13 found this episode helpful, do hit the
14:15 thumbs up. I do appreciate it. It's a
14:17 great way to support this channel.
