0:02 hey everyone Reen with Valor Ridge and
0:04 the purpose of today's video is to talk
0:07 about the AK rifle how to maintain it
0:09 how to lubricate it and keep it going
0:11 there's a lot of myths about the AK
0:13 rifle and they float around all over the
0:16 place whether in magazines or online or
0:18 even in certain training classes uh we
0:21 get a lot of questions about the AK
0:24 rifle for example is it true that you
0:26 don't have to really clean or lubricate
0:28 it well that's actually not true you do
0:30 have to clean it and keep it lubricated
0:32 all rifles will fail it's just simply a
0:34 question of how often do you want them
0:37 to another question we'll get is is oil
0:39 sufficient to keep the AK running well
0:42 guys snow is enough to keep the AK
0:44 running although it won't do it long we
0:45 want to use a good lubrication that's
0:47 going to stay put even when the gun gets
0:50 hot and akas do get very hot just like
0:51 all the other rifles so I'm going to
0:53 show you my personal method and how I
0:56 keep my AK rifles running and reliable
0:57 each and every time you press the
0:59 trigger and this will remain true with
1:02 your shooting one round or 10,000 rounds
1:04 let's get to it all right everybody it's
1:06 your typical AK rifle so when you're
1:08 going to clean it it's not that big of a
1:10 deal it's quite simple and 12-year-olds
1:12 all over the world are taking these
1:14 apart and cleaning them every day so I'm
1:16 sure that you can do it too it's not
1:17 that difficult so we're going to clean
1:21 it take your mag out and your guns
1:22 should be loaded and if they're not you
1:26 just simply wrong so unload them cuz
1:28 there's a couple more others in the room
1:29 so don't worry about that nobody's going
1:32 to the drop on us all right let's take
1:34 it apart remove your dust cover take
1:36 your recoil spring out slide it out just
1:39 like this and of course remove your
1:43 bolt and uh you
1:46 know that's your disassembled AK rifle
1:47 these are zenet Co rails I got these
1:50 from Robi at AK operators union I bought
1:53 the top and the bottom rail both but you
1:54 can get whatever you want I'm trying
1:56 this out it's worked well for us so far
1:57 first things that I like to clean on my
2:01 AK are the moving parts the bolt carrier
2:03 the bolt those kind of things uh today
2:05 I'm goingon to be using some CLP from
2:07 Brak free although you can use hoppies n
2:09 or whatever cleaning solution that you
2:11 want I really don't care uh anything
2:14 that removes carbon spit mucus whatever
2:16 you want to use just wipe the carb as a
2:18 marine and being that it was the Marine
2:19 Corps Birthday a couple days ago I'm
2:22 using CLP why because I like the taste
2:24 and it's sterile uh while I'm cleaning
2:26 this guys what I'm also doing is that
2:29 I'm looking for things on my bolt I'm
2:31 looking for any kind of wear any cracks
2:33 in there any kind of carbon under the
2:35 extractor which is right here this is
2:38 what removes the shell casing from the
2:39 rifle this is what removes the shell
2:41 casing so make sure that's nice and
2:43 stiff that it'll move and eject it I
2:46 like to clean the bolt face as well all
2:47 right I like to remove all that and get
2:48 in there if you want to use a little
2:50 brush and you want to brush up
2:51 underneath there underneath the
2:53 extractor to make sure all the little
2:55 carbon and little giblets uh get get out
2:58 of there that's cool too so what I'll do
3:00 is I'll take a little brush and I'll
3:03 brush up underneath there and get all
3:04 that stuff out of there and check right
3:07 around the bolt face right in here make
3:09 sure that's all clear and free of carbon
3:12 because we want our round to seat flushy
3:14 all right so just brush out all that
3:16 little thing this doesn't take long guys
3:18 it takes you know 10 15 seconds to do
3:20 that I like to get underneath the lugs I
3:22 really like to do that but especially
3:24 pay attention to that bolt face that we
3:25 talked about this is the most important
3:27 part of the bolt that you're going to
3:28 want to keep clean all right next what
3:29 we're going to do is we're going to take
3:30 the bolt carrier the piston and these
3:32 are connected unless you know something
3:34 I don't know all right they're connected
3:35 so what we're going to do is we're just
3:37 going to knock off all that carbon you
3:39 can see just like around that piston
3:40 right here don't overly clean this cuz
3:41 the first round you fire again it's
3:43 going to look just like this okay so
3:45 just brush off all the excess caked on
3:48 carbon there we go jewelry polish clean
3:50 for an AK and we're just going to clean
3:52 that get all that carbon and stuff out
3:54 of there once again I'm testing stuff
3:56 I'm moving this this should Flex okay
3:58 the AK was designed to flex this this
4:00 piston attached the bolt car should Flex
4:02 a little bit rattle around a little bit
4:04 that's what it's designed to do wipe it
4:06 down with a rag just like so get up
4:07 underneath there if you look at this
4:10 channel where the bolt moves clean that
4:11 make sure that's free of Gunk and all
4:14 kinds of caked on stuff uh what I do is
4:16 also look at my bolt carrier make sure
4:19 everything's okay make sure everything
4:21 is solid that there's no cracks in there
4:23 once again cuz remember this gets beat
4:25 to crap this shoots back and beats up
4:27 against that rear trunion so we want to
4:30 be checking that for any kind of wear
4:31 also checking it for any kinds of
4:34 cracking Etc all right guys get
4:36 underneath these um notches in here in
4:37 these little grooves this is where the
4:39 bolt carrier rides on the rails make
4:40 sure those are clean just take your
4:42 little brush knock out all those carbon
4:44 deposits in there as well and then you
4:46 should be good to go it's not an
4:48 involved process we're just simply
4:49 knocking carbon off of there and we're
4:52 making sure that things are free and
4:54 clear to move around last but not least
4:56 we're going to clean the receiver uh on
4:58 an AK there is no upper receiver or
5:01 lower receiver like an AR I mean this is
5:02 what you get okay so we're going to
5:04 check inside of here make sure it's
5:06 clear make sure there's not a whole lot
5:08 of debris inside there I'm going to wipe
5:09 down the rails on the inside if you can
5:11 see me doing this right up here I'm
5:13 going to wipe down those rails I'm going
5:15 to check down there by the chamber in
5:17 the feed ramps right inside here this is
5:19 where the bullet feeds into the chamber
5:20 we want to make sure that's especially
5:23 clear so we want to wipe that down nice
5:25 and good and make sure that it's nice
5:27 and clear around the chamber and around
5:29 these areas where the bolt slides in
5:31 there and pushes up against that Barrel
5:33 because that we want to make sure that
5:35 the bolt is seated properly clear out
5:36 all that carbon and all that Gunk from
5:38 out here all right once again I'm
5:40 looking down here I'm looking inside
5:42 here I'm looking underneath the hammer
5:43 you know if you want to open that up and
5:45 look inside the hammer okay it's clear
5:48 it's nice nice and clean inside there
5:50 little bit of those red Speckles from
5:52 all that quality wolf match Grade ammo
5:54 that you know everyone says you can't
5:56 hit anything past 200 with an
5:58 AK this may surprise you guys but this
6:00 past weekend we had dudes with AKs
6:03 hitting at 600 yards so you can do it
6:05 even with or without wolf or without
6:08 that premium match Grade ammo out of
6:10 there but no all joking aside just make
6:12 sure it's nice and clear inside the
6:14 trigger group and nice and clear around
6:16 the hammer and it doesn't take much
6:18 often times people say well how often
6:20 should I take this out how often should
6:22 I take the gas tube out and clean inside
6:24 there I'll tell you a little secret guys
6:27 I never have I never have this rifle's
6:30 got 40,000 rounds through it
6:32 and I haven't done it yet and it runs
6:35 fine and it works if you want to reach
6:37 inside the trunion with a cloth or a
6:39 patch and you just want to kind of poke
6:40 around inside there and pull all a
6:41 little bit of the extra stuff in there
6:44 you can but as far as cleaning the gas
6:46 tube guys I I just haven't done it and
6:49 I've shot corrosive ammo I've shot
6:51 non-corrosive ammo I live in Tennessee
6:53 so it's humid and hot so if anything's
6:55 going to rust it's going to be here and
6:57 it hasn't yet so that brings us to
6:59 lubrication all right lubrication is
7:01 important for an AK just like it is on
7:03 any other rifle the first place that I
7:06 put lubrication is on the bolt carrier
7:07 uh you can see there's silver you can see
7:08 see
7:11 exactly the spots where it's wearing
7:14 from running into the rifle so what I do
7:16 is I'll put some grease there and I use
7:18 grease that's what I use I do not use
7:20 oil on any of my guns because it runs
7:22 off and burns off grease stays put Works
7:25 in any conditions guys and it's cheap
7:26 and so what we're going to do is we're
7:28 going to put the grease here notice how
7:30 I'm keeping the Piston dry all I put it
7:32 on is this bolt carrier right here if
7:35 you want to hit a little bit of these
7:38 rails right here that's cool too all
7:39 right leave it be just put a little bit
7:41 on there and if you ask how much grease
7:43 should I put on there uh my answer is
7:45 that you can't put too much of it on
7:46 there because the rifle is going to
7:48 throw off the excess but I would put a
7:50 visible coat and I hope you can see in
7:53 detail what this looks like on mine so
7:55 guys you can see how much lubrication I
7:57 put on mine it's a visible coat of
7:59 grease and it doesn't matter what color
8:01 grease you use red white green purple
8:03 black they they all work the same all
8:05 right I use red because it's a communist
8:07 gun why not use the color of world
8:10 oppression so when we look at all this
8:11 here guys when we're looking at the
8:13 grease it's all right here and it's a
8:15 visible layer of lube and that's how we
8:16 Lube the bolt carrier let's go to the
8:17 bolt so what I like to do is put a
8:19 little bit on the stem you can see the
8:22 silver marks that means there's friction
8:23 so I want to try to keep as much
8:24 friction off there as possible not only
8:26 for the smooth running of the gun but
8:28 the parts will last longer although if
8:30 you wear out an AK bullet you're doing a
8:32 lot more shooting than I do and and I
8:34 average six figures a year in ammunition
8:36 so you're doing something right keep
8:37 going if you want to put a little bit on
8:40 the lugs that's cool too going do that
8:41 just a little bit you don't need a lot
8:42 on there just enough to have it slide
8:45 into the to the to the chamber or the
8:48 the lock into the barrel not much so
8:50 that's what we do for Lube guys once
8:52 again just drop it in there like this I
8:53 like to drop mine in
8:56 up like so rotate it
8:58 clockwise pull it out that is your
9:02 Assemble bolt and bolt carrier
9:05 group you may want to check your recoil
9:07 spring as well I just look at it make
9:09 sure that there's no cracks once again
9:11 I'm looking at it make sure it's it's
9:15 pretty pretty good it is what um if you
9:16 want to if you want to take a little bit
9:19 of CLP like right here and if you want
9:22 to spray a little bit on there to keep
9:24 it lubricated that's cool you don't have
9:26 to I like this it just makes it a little
9:27 bit more smooth so go ahead and just put
9:30 some CLP on there brake free you could
9:32 use these Rim oil wipes too these are
9:33 like six bucks at Walmart but they're
9:35 great when we go put this back together
9:38 guys go and put your rifle up like so
9:40 take your bolt make sure it's extended
9:41 just like this and what we're going to
9:43 do is we're going to put our bolt
9:46 carrier right in make sure it's all the
9:50 way to the rear push
9:54 down push forward that's in take
9:57 your recoil spring shove it in the bolt
10:00 carrier put it back in the notch
10:02 just like so this is the hardest part of
10:04 the whole process your dust cover shove
10:06 it all the way in the
10:09 notches and then the
10:11 obligatory slap how do I test to make
10:14 sure my AK is working on the bolt press
10:15 the trigger hold it to the rear run the
10:18 bolt Again release your trigger press it
10:21 again run it release it safety
10:24 on it is good to go and of course the
10:25 most important part of this entire process
10:27 process
10:30 is rocket
10:34 racket loaded rifle that's cleaned good
10:36 for another 3,000 rounds so you notice
10:37 that I didn't clean the board on my
10:39 rifle I have it in 40,000 rounds and I
10:41 haven't cleaned it on any of my rifles
10:45 in years they continue to get better
10:47 they continue to shoot tighter they
10:50 continue to work end of story if you
10:53 want to clean it cool I don't hope you
10:55 found the information this video helpful

11:01 if you want to get some training on that
11:03 rifle we'll teach you how to shoot it
11:05 out to 300 yards in Rifleman 1 out to
11:07 600 yards in Rifleman 2 even those
11:10 inaccurate junky AKs believe it or not
11:12 some may be with iron sights come on out
11:14 to Valor Ridge we'll teach you how to do
11:16 just that this is Reed henricks of Valor
11:18 Ridge reminding you the lessons that we
11:19 learn are written on the Tombstones of

11:30 that you cannot bow down to the
11:34 imperialist bisi decadence you must
