0:02 if you like to draw you've probably
0:03 noticed how your hands can smudge your
0:05 media around the paper
0:07 and ruin a drawing especially while
0:08 drawing digitally
0:10 the friction caused by natural oils on
0:12 our hands can get in the way of smooth
0:15 fluid lines a drawing glove is a great
0:17 tool to reduce both of those problems
0:19 it protects your paper and also makes
0:21 digital drawing feel so much nicer
0:24 i hate the way it feels drawing on a
0:26 tablet or a cintiq or an ipad
0:30 without a smudge guard so i use a smudge guard
0:30 guard
0:33 every single day when i draw this is the
0:34 brand name one
0:36 it's called smudge guard i think it's 15
0:38 for the smudge guard that only has a
0:40 pinky finger and 18 for the one that has
0:42 two fingers i like the way the two
0:44 finger glove feels better
0:45 i bought this about four years ago it
0:47 gets daily use and it's in
0:51 great condition it's stretchy it's thin
0:52 it feels like nothing's there you can
0:54 throw them in the washer if they get nasty
0:55 nasty
0:56 if you don't have that kind of money
0:58 lying around here's what i do
1:01 for making smudge guards in bulk for
1:02 myself because i like to have one in
1:03 every room
1:05 it's the kind of thing that goes missing
1:06 a lot you
1:08 you just want to have like a bunch of
1:10 them there so i buy
1:12 white cotton gloves you can buy packs of
1:13 12 of these online
1:17 for about 10 dollars i cut off the tip
1:18 of the thumb
1:20 the tip of the index finger and the tip
1:21 of the middle finger
1:24 so that i can still touch my pencil the
1:25 way that i normally do when i'm not
1:26 wearing a glove
1:29 and it feels totally natural and normal
1:30 to draw with but
1:32 the part of my hand that touches the
1:33 screen is
1:36 not skin on glass which doesn't feel good
1:36 good
1:39 it's just this smooth glove that glides
1:40 across the glass
1:43 so a couple of drawbacks of the cheap version
1:44 version
1:47 it's white so it shows dirt because
1:48 you're cutting
1:51 across the seams eventually these will
1:52 start to
1:54 fray you'll notice that it gets looser
1:56 and looser and like
1:58 they're just not as nicely made they're
1:59 very cheap and disposable
2:02 so eventually these will fall apart or
2:03 get gross
2:05 and you'll need to replace them you can
2:07 throw these in the wash too if you want
2:10 but it will speed up the fraying unless
2:12 you hem this yourself which
2:14 i don't do so now you know what a smudge
2:16 guard is and why it's so awesome
2:18 and how to make a cheaper version happy
2:23 drawing everybody [Music]
