0:02 so excited about this new Journey we're on
0:03 on
0:05 a matter of life and death and today
0:07 we're asking a really big question
0:09 the question that we're asking today is
0:12 what happens to you when you die
0:14 and that's an important question because
0:23 the one thing that all of us have in
0:25 common today
0:27 is it in the cards for every single one
0:29 of us is death
0:31 and so
0:34 globally Humanity has to ask the question
0:35 question
0:38 what happens when we die is it simply
0:40 the end that's an option the lights are
0:42 on the lights go off
0:44 do we come back in another form
0:47 in another time in another place is that
0:49 what happens when you die
0:53 or do we just all sort of roll off into
0:55 a blissful eternity
0:56 eternity
1:00 how do you answer this question
1:04 what happens when we die well I think
1:07 today for me especially on the heels of
1:09 Easter I would like to pose that
1:12 question to Jesus
1:14 and Let Jesus answer the question we
1:16 celebrated last week that he came to
1:19 this Earth was crucified was dead was
1:22 buried and that on the third day Jesus
1:24 rose again from the grave so if there's
1:27 anybody you want to ask what happens to
1:30 you when you die it would certainly for
1:34 me be Jesus to to let him help us know
1:37 what is over there I think everybody in
1:38 the house today probably believes
1:40 there's something over there
1:43 but how do you know what is over there
1:46 or how do you know where is over there
1:49 or more importantly how do you get
1:51 over there
1:53 Thomas Edison when he was dying said to
1:56 his doctor and to his wife it's
1:58 beautiful over there
2:01 but where is there
2:03 and how do you get there
2:04 and do you know that you're going there
2:07 and so I would love for us to ask Jesus
2:10 to help us navigate this question today
2:12 because hey you don't want to take just
2:14 anybody's advice on this
2:16 and I Think Jesus is a good source he's
2:19 very well respected among all the
2:21 religions of the world interestingly if
2:23 you were to go and set on a journey
2:25 right now to try to find truth and Find
2:27 meaning and you determined that you were
2:29 going to go and search out every major
2:31 religion and every path that there is on
2:34 Earth one thing that you would find in
2:36 common on on all those paths and in all
2:40 those religions is they all esteem Jesus
2:43 and Muslims consider Jesus a prophet and
2:45 have great respect for him the Jews even
2:49 consider Jesus to be a rabbi he's very
2:51 well respected in the Baha'i
2:54 thinking he's a wise teacher and had a
2:57 Divine human nature Hindus believed that
2:59 Jesus was a holy man the Buddhists
3:02 believed he was an enlightened man and a
3:04 wise teacher even those of the new age
3:06 philosophy believed that Jesus was a
3:10 wise moral teacher so I just choose to
3:12 line up with the guy that all the other
3:15 religions think is a really great guy
3:17 and when you come to that guy that they
3:19 all esteem it's interesting because he
3:21 attributes to himself
3:24 Singularity and exclusivity
3:27 and he says about himself the one that
3:30 they all admire says about himself I am
3:35 the way I am the truth I am the life no
3:39 one comes to the father but by me and
3:41 that sounds a little bit exclusive
3:44 because it is a lot exclusive
3:47 but I feel okay in that exclusivity
3:51 because that exclusivity is included in
3:53 all the major religious thinking of the
3:54 world to say that guy is a great guy
3:57 that guy is a prophet that guy is an
3:59 enlightened man a holy man a moral
4:00 teacher that guy he's got some kind of
4:03 human Divinity going on so according to
4:05 everyone else this guy's pretty amazing
4:08 well this guy claims of himself
4:11 that he is the one who can help us
4:14 answer the question what happens
4:16 when we die and Jesus as we're going to
4:24 and more importantly for me and more
4:27 importantly for you Jesus is going to
4:30 show us the vital way
4:33 to determine which of those two outcomes
4:36 is yours
4:39 and so let's look at the words of Jesus
4:41 John chapter 5.
4:43 it says in
4:47 verse 24 I tell you the truth
4:50 whoever hears my word
4:52 and believes him
4:55 who sent me has
4:56 has
4:57 eternal life
5:01 and will not be condemned they're the
5:06 he has crossed over
5:08 from death
5:09 to life
5:11 I tell you the truth the time is coming
5:14 and has now come when the dead will hear
5:16 the voice of the Son of God and those
5:19 who hear will live
5:21 for as the father has life in himself so
5:24 he is granted the son to have life in himself
5:26 himself
5:29 and he has given him the son authority
5:33 to judge because he is the son of man
5:36 do not be amazed at this Jesus said for
5:40 a time is coming when all who are in
5:44 their graves will hear his voice and
5:45 come out
5:47 so there's a moment coming
5:50 when every Cemetery
5:52 is going to be emptied think about that
5:55 that's why we use that term we've
5:58 mentioned it before Cemetery coming from
6:01 the root word dormitory we're renting
6:03 space there people because all the
6:06 cemeteries are going to be emptied at
6:10 the sound of his voice all who are in
6:13 their graves will hear his voice and
6:16 come out those who have done good will
6:18 rise to live
6:20 and those who have done evil
6:26 will rise to be condemned two outcomes
6:28 two paths
6:31 and Jesus is on earth now speaking words
6:36 in red to help us know that we can make
6:38 the choice
6:39 to decide
6:43 our destiny John 3 a few pages back the
6:45 most famous passage probably in the
6:47 words of Jesus for God
6:49 so loved the world
6:52 that he gave his one and only son that
6:56 whoever believes in him in Jesus
6:59 shall not perish but have
7:01 eternal life
7:03 so when we get into the weight of these
7:05 two paths it's good to know that we are
7:08 being guided in the weight of these two
7:12 paths by a God who is animated by love
7:16 for you and love for me such a great
7:18 love that he gave his one and only son
7:21 that whoever believes in the son shall
7:24 not perish but have eternal life for God
7:27 did not send his son into the world to
7:30 condemn the world but to save the world
7:32 through him
7:35 so Jesus mission on Earth wasn't to
7:38 condemn the world and and just to put a
7:39 little footnote that we'll come back to
7:42 the reason that wasn't his mission to
7:44 come to condemn the world is because the
7:51 so he didn't come
7:53 to put condemnation on us that had
7:55 already happened by the Fall
7:58 he came it says so that the world might
8:00 be saved through
8:01 through him
8:03 him
8:05 so his mission is a different Mission
8:07 it's not a condemnation Mission it is a rescue
8:08 rescue
8:11 Mission and then in verse 18 whoever
8:14 believes in him in Jesus is not
8:16 condemned so we're already under this
8:18 condemnation but a rescue mission
8:20 arrives and whoever believes in the
8:23 rescue mission now is not condemned but
8:26 then if you see the counter of that but
8:28 whoever does not believe
8:32 stands condemned already
8:34 because he has not believed in the name
8:38 of God's one and only son
8:41 Jesus and we'll see this later today is
8:44 teaching us that there are two outcomes
8:47 in death and one of them is eternal life
8:49 which is an eternal relationship with
8:53 God and one of them is eternal death
8:56 which is an eternity separated from the
9:00 love of God we call them heaven
9:02 and Hell
9:05 and those are the outcomes of what
9:08 happens to us when we die now I know
9:10 saying that some person is going to
9:12 maybe respond and say well I don't
9:13 really believe in heaven and I certainly
9:16 don't believe in hell but I think all of
9:18 us understand why there is hell
9:21 because God is perfect
9:24 and his standard is Holiness and it's
9:26 not just a thing it's his person it's
9:29 not just that his his standard is
9:32 righteousness is that he is righteous
9:34 it's not just that it's standard is
9:37 perfection it's that he is perfect
9:39 it's not just a standard is Holiness
9:43 it's that God himself is Holy and so
9:45 therefore there's a there's a standard
9:47 and a system that you and I have to
9:51 navigate as we come to God and I think
9:53 we probably all get that everyone in
9:55 this room has got some kind of a moral
9:57 understanding and yes maybe you want to
9:58 say to your friend hey you can believe
10:00 what you want to believe I want to
10:01 believe what I want to believe and maybe
10:03 in your mind that's good enough for you
10:05 however there's something higher than
10:07 that in your estimation
10:10 because if your friend decides that what
10:12 is good for him or what he feels is right
10:14 right
10:17 isn't what you feel is right on a
10:18 certain level you're going to say to
10:20 your friend hey I appreciate that you
10:23 feel that that's right but there is a
10:26 higher moral obligation that we have and therefore
10:27 therefore
10:30 that obligation trumps what you feel is right
10:32 right
10:33 so I'm
10:35 not really saying you can't feel that's
10:37 right I'm just saying you can't do that
10:40 because you have to
10:42 ascribe to
10:45 this higher moral obligation wouldn't
10:46 you say that would probably be true of
10:49 you that everybody can believe what they
10:51 want but at some point them believing
10:54 what they want and acting out on what
10:56 they believe that they want has to come
10:58 under a greater
11:02 moral obligation
11:04 and where did that come from
11:07 did that greater moral obligation just
11:09 simply come from the laws of nature
11:13 did it come from some higher power or is there
11:14 there
11:17 a personal God a Creator God who is in
11:22 fact perfect and his Perfection is the basis
11:23 basis
11:27 for that moral obligation that all of us
11:29 on some level understand
11:31 but then when you take it to its highest
11:34 level it's God saying you can feel the
11:36 way you want to feel and you can do what
11:39 you want to do but ultimately there is a
11:42 standard called perfection
11:45 and that's my standard because that's
11:49 who I am and when you see that you begin
11:51 to understand our predicament we talk
11:54 about it here all the time it's the
11:56 predicament of the gospel and it's a
11:58 perfect God and you and me and I don't
11:59 think there's anybody in this building
12:01 today who's going to say well I I just I
12:04 might be the only one here but perfect
12:09 and see how quickly that just dissolves
12:11 the whole uh floating scale of our
12:13 behavior and how we would judge
12:15 ourselves or score ourselves based on
12:18 our good intentions and our good works
12:21 in life immediately all that just Fades
12:23 away when you understand and realize
12:26 that the highest moral obligation is to
12:28 the one who is perfect and if you're not
12:31 perfect you're in conflict with God
12:35 the scripture says in Romans 3 23 that
12:38 all of us have sinned and we all fall
12:41 short of the glory of God all of us have
12:43 sinned and what sin is it's just
12:46 basically saying to God I'm not doing it
12:48 your way I'm doing it my way so it is a
12:50 personal decision you might not have
12:52 intended it that way and when you made
12:53 that decision or did that thing you
12:55 might not have sat down and said God I
12:56 know what you think and I know what
12:58 you're all about I know you're holy and
12:59 I know you're righteous and I know
13:02 you're perfect but I'm about to do this
13:04 or you might have
13:06 there are many people and many times
13:08 that we do Shake our fist in the face of
13:11 God and say so what to you I'm going to
13:13 do this but most of the time it's just
13:15 us being drawn away by our own fleshly
13:18 desires and lust and making decisions
13:22 that are contrary to himself
13:25 and that's why in Romans chapter 5 Paul
13:27 writes and says that our sin made us
13:28 enemies of God it didn't just make us
13:31 bad people it put us in opposition to
13:32 the Holy One
13:35 and so this is a major predicament
13:38 because at the end of it all in Romans 6
13:42 23 Paul adds that the wages of sin is death
13:44 death
13:47 spiritual death not our physical death
13:49 is is a part of sin also but the bigger
13:53 part of sin is our spiritual death
13:55 death
13:57 he says but
13:59 the free gift of God
14:01 is eternal life
14:05 through Jesus Christ Our Lord there are
14:07 two outcomes in life there is an eternal
14:10 life in relationship with God and an
14:12 eternal death separated from God but
14:14 there is a gift in the middle today
14:16 there is a gift in the balance today
14:19 there is a gift on the table today and
14:24 it is life through Jesus Christ Our Lord
14:27 and that is the beauty that God is
14:30 putting on the table for you and for me
14:32 today it all comes from this one word in
14:35 John 3 16 but whoever
14:38 believes in him
14:40 whoever puts the weight
14:42 of their trust
14:45 for forgiveness of sin
14:47 for salvation
14:49 from condemnation
14:52 and for a right standing with a holy God
14:53 whoever puts the weight of their trust
14:57 in Jesus for that they have right now
14:58 here and now eternal
14:59 eternal life
15:01 life
15:03 you see we're in a predicament people
15:05 and in a predicament
15:07 you need outside help
15:10 I was reading not long ago about a
15:11 person with standing on a subway
15:14 platform true story and someone pushed
15:17 them onto the tracks in front of a train
15:19 and when the person landed on the tracks
15:21 they were knocked unconscious
15:23 and so they couldn't even like rally and
15:25 try to make a move
15:27 and so there they were unconscious on
15:30 these tracks not long the train is
15:32 coming down the tracks and how foolish
15:34 would it have been for us to be standing
15:38 above the tracks going hey get up
15:40 hey roll to the right
15:42 go to go left it would have been
15:45 pointless to do that because in this
15:48 moment they needed outside assistance
15:49 and that's where we were
15:53 that's where we were dead in our sins
15:57 we were needing outside assistance
15:59 in Jesus
16:00 steps in
16:03 and he's giving us an offer today
16:05 do you believe
16:09 in this Jesus this one who is applauded
16:11 by every other religious way
16:13 but yet who claims for himself
16:16 Singularity and exclusivity do you
16:18 believe in him in his words
16:21 that he is the way the truth and the life
16:21 life
16:24 and that you come to the father only
16:26 through him do you believe that he is
16:28 the payment for our sin that he is the
16:31 one who allows us through his death and
16:33 burial and Resurrection to become
16:36 perfect in the eyes of God to be born again
16:37 again
16:40 with a brand new heart to be able to stand
16:41 stand
16:45 before The God Who is holy and righteous
16:47 and perfect not because what we have
16:51 done but because of what he has done for us
16:56 do you believe
16:57 in Jesus
16:59 not that he lived
17:01 do you believe in him that you put the
17:04 weight of your trust in him
17:10 and if you do you can answer this
17:12 question with confidence today what
17:15 happens to you when you die well I'm a
17:16 Believer in Jesus so I know that what
17:18 happens to me when I die that I am
17:21 seamlessly in the presence of almighty
17:24 God because I have been given already
17:27 the gift of eternal life that's what
17:29 Paul wrote he says it this way in second
17:31 Corinthians 5 Verse 6 therefore we are
17:33 always confident and know that as long
17:36 as we are at home in the body we are
17:38 away from the Lord for we live by faith
17:41 not by sight we are confident I say and
17:45 would prefer to be away from the body
17:47 and at home with the Lord
17:50 this is where we get this phrase away
17:53 from the body at home with the Lord and
17:55 what Paul is writing about here is our
17:58 person our spirit our soul our
18:02 Consciousness our Essence in death your
18:04 Consciousness your essence your spirit
18:07 your you not the flesh that carries you
18:10 but you as a believer in Jesus are
18:13 seamlessly now away from the body and
18:15 present with the Lord
18:17 I don't know if you have ever been with
18:19 someone who took their last breath but
18:21 it is shocking
18:23 how fast
18:25 someone leaves this body
18:28 it is more than instantaneous
18:32 it is it is like warp speed in one breath
18:33 breath
18:36 they're gone and you're staring at their
18:40 body fully cognizant of the reality that
18:42 it is vacant
18:44 and they are gone
18:46 and what Paul is writing is that in that
18:50 moment they are absent from the body in
18:51 an instant
18:54 and present with the Lord
18:57 this is what happens to you who believe
19:00 in Jesus when you die you are absent now
19:02 from the body
19:05 present with the Lord why because you
19:08 already believed in him and when you
19:11 believed you received eternal life
19:13 so you're not now absent from the body
19:16 going I hope this works out okay
19:20 now you're absent from the body already
19:22 possessing eternal life
19:24 already living
19:26 eternal life and that eternal life can't
19:29 be bound by physical death so when the
19:31 body dies that Spirit just moves right
19:35 seamlessly into the presence of God now
19:37 what happens to the body well the body
19:39 is raised up with Christ in Resurrection
19:42 we see that in a few places in in
19:43 scripture as well first Corinthians 15
19:46 but someone will ask how are the dead
19:49 raised with what kind of body will they
19:52 come then down to verse 52. listen I
19:54 tell you a mystery we will not all sleep
19:56 but we will be changed now Paul's
19:59 writing to those who have believed
20:03 we will be changed for the perishable
20:06 this but close it clothe itself with the
20:08 imperishable and the Mortal with
20:11 immortality when the perishable has been
20:13 clothed with the imperishable the Mortal
20:15 with immortality then the saying that is
20:17 written will come true death has been
20:21 swallowed up in Victory and then in
20:23 another place he we see this in first
20:25 Thessalonians 4.
20:28 brothers and sisters do we do not want
20:29 you to be uninformed about those who
20:31 sleep in death
20:33 so that you do not grieve like the rest
20:35 of mankind who have no hope for we
20:38 believe that Jesus died and rose again
20:40 and so we believe that God will bring
20:42 with Jesus those who have fallen asleep
20:46 in him according to the Lord's word we
20:49 tell you that we who are still alive who
20:51 are left until the coming of the Lord
20:54 will certainly not precede those who
20:56 have fallen asleep for the Lord himself
20:58 will come down from heaven with a loud
21:01 command and the voice of the Archangel
21:04 and with the trumpet call of God and the
21:07 dead and Christ will rise first this is
21:10 what Jesus was talking about in John
21:13 chapter 5. after that we who are still
21:15 alive and are left will be caught up
21:17 together with them in the clouds to meet
21:21 the Lord in the air and so we will be
21:22 with the Lord forever therefore
21:25 encourage one another with these words
21:29 Philippians 3 21 that in heaven Christ
21:33 will transform our lowly bodies
21:37 this so they will be like his glorious body
21:38 body
21:41 so in the end
21:43 at the call of God for the last Trumpet
21:47 Of God we are already spiritually with
21:50 God but now our bodies are raised to
21:53 join us in the air and to be transformed
21:56 in that moment into a Heavenly Body you
22:00 and your new Heavenly Body reunited for
22:02 eternity with God and that can happen
22:04 out of a grave it can happen if your
22:07 body was destroyed in a fire or in some
22:10 tragic accident or some circumstance it
22:11 could happen if you were cremated
22:12 somebody said you should be cremated
22:13 because you know we're all supposed to
22:15 rise together look God spoke the
22:18 universe into existence he can go find
22:21 every single bit of the ashes of your
22:23 cremated body wherever they may be in
22:25 the wind in the ocean or wherever they
22:27 have gone reunite them in his miraculous
22:30 power to a body that is made new and
22:33 glorious will join you forever
22:34 forever
22:36 with him
22:38 what happens when you die you are
22:40 seamlessly in the presence of God
22:42 if you're alive in Christ and your body
22:44 is going to Decay and rest for a minute
22:47 but it's coming back to Glory also
22:50 and you will be with him in glory you
22:52 say well well some people teach Soul
22:54 sleep that all of you you know you and
22:56 the body and the whole thing lie down to
22:58 sleep and then when Christ comes and the
23:00 trumpet blows you all you wake up and
23:02 you're like look if that's the case
23:05 which I don't necessarily believe that
23:07 it is based on scripture but if it were
23:09 the case still be the same thing because
23:11 with the Lord today is like a thousand
23:13 years and a thousand years is like a day
23:14 so from the moment that you take your
23:16 last breath and go into Soul sleep and
23:18 the moment that you hear that trumpet is
23:20 a nanosecond and so you close your eyes
23:21 and you open them and you're in the
23:26 but
23:29 there's another path
23:32 and that path is just as real
23:35 and Jesus speaks about it
23:37 quite a lot
23:39 in fact interestingly Jesus teaches
23:40 about hell
23:47 that's what you do when your God incarnate
23:48 incarnate
23:50 walking on planet Earth speaking words
23:52 of red
23:54 on a mission to seek and to save the Lost
23:56 Lost
23:58 you do talk about heaven
24:00 but you make sure people understand that
24:06 in one place
24:09 Jesus was talking in Luke 16.
24:11 and he told a story he said there was a
24:13 rich man who was dressed in purple and
24:15 fine linen and lived in luxury every day
24:17 at his gate was laid a beggar named
24:19 Lazarus covered with sores and longing
24:20 to eat what fell from the rich man's table
24:21 table
24:25 even the dogs came and licked his sores
24:27 the time came when the beggar died and
24:30 the angels carried him to Abraham's side
24:33 the rich man also died and was buried
24:37 in Hades where he was in torment
24:40 he looked up and saw Abraham far away
24:42 with Lazarus by his side so he called to
24:46 Him Father Abraham had pity on me and
24:48 send Lazarus to dip the tip of his
24:50 finger in water to cool my tongue
24:54 because I am in agony in this fire
24:57 but Abraham replied son remember that in
24:58 your lifetime you received your good
25:00 things while Lazarus received bad things
25:03 but now he's comforted here and you are
25:06 in agony and besides all this between us
25:10 and you a great Chasm has been set in place
25:11 place
25:13 so that those who want to go from here
25:20 nor could anyone cross over
25:22 from there
25:23 to us
25:26 he answered and I beg you father sin
25:28 Lazarus Lazarus to my family for I have
25:31 five brothers let him warn them so that
25:33 they will not also come to this place of Torment
25:34 Torment
25:38 and Abraham replied they have Moses and
25:39 the prophets let them listen to them no
25:41 Father Abraham he said but if someone
25:43 from the dead goes to them they will
25:51 or Jesus telling the story says if they
25:55 do not listen to Moses and the prophets
25:57 they will not be convinced even if
26:07 I Think Jesus was forecasting right
26:11 that it it was going to be possible
26:15 that even if he died was buried and was
26:18 miraculously raised from the dead on the
26:21 third day some people would still not
26:24 believe in him
26:26 even though
26:30 someone came back from the dead
26:32 to Proclaim to them
26:37 how to choose the path of eternal life
26:39 Matthew 25
26:42 he was telling another parable
26:43 when the son of man comes in his glory
26:46 and all the angels with him he will sit
26:48 on his glorious Throne all the nations
26:49 will be gathered before him and he will
26:52 separate the people one from another as
26:54 a Shepherd separates the sheep from the goats
26:55 goats
26:56 he'll put the sheep on his right and the
26:58 goats on his left then the king will say
27:00 to those on his right come you who are
27:01 blessed and my father take your
27:04 inheritance the kingdom prepared for you
27:07 since the creation of the world
27:09 for I was hungry
27:11 and you gave me something to eat I was
27:13 thirsty you gave me something to drink I
27:14 was a stranger and you invited me in I
27:16 needed clothes you clothed me I was sick
27:18 and you looked after me I was in prison
27:20 and you came to visit me
27:22 then the righteous will answer them Lord
27:23 when do we do all these things and he
27:26 he'll say to them whenever you did this
27:30 down to verse 40 to one of the least of
27:32 these brothers and sisters of mine you
27:33 did it for me
27:35 and then he will say to those on his
27:38 left depart from me you who are cursed
27:40 into the Eternal fire
27:44 prepared for the devil and his angels
27:46 for I was hungry he gave me nothing to
27:47 eat thirsty nothing to drink stranger
27:49 you didn't invite me in needed clothes
27:51 you didn't clothe me sick in a prison
27:53 you didn't come look after me
27:55 and they also will answer Lord when did
27:57 we do any of these things
28:00 and he'll say truly I tell you whatever
28:02 you did not do for one of the least of these
28:04 these
28:11 then they will go away to eternal punishment
28:13 punishment
28:15 but the righteous
28:17 to eternal life
28:19 life
28:21 back to Jesus words do not be amazed at
28:23 this for time is coming when all who are
28:25 in their graves will hear his voice and
28:26 come out
28:28 those who have done what is Good Will
28:30 Rise to live and those who have done
28:32 what is evil will rise to be
28:37 condemned Jesus is showing us
28:44 Sir Francis Newport who
28:46 headed an English atheist Club on his
28:50 death bed was quoted as saying this
28:52 you need not tell me there is no God for
28:55 I know there is one
28:58 and that I am in his presence that
29:01 sounds good right
29:03 you need not tell me there is no hell
29:07 I feel myself already slipping wretches
29:08 wretches
29:11 cease your idle talk about there being
29:15 hope for me I know I am lost forever oh
29:19 that fire oh the insufferable pangs of
29:22 hell oh that I could lie for a thousand
29:24 years on the fire that is never quenched
29:27 to purchase the favor of God and be
29:30 United to him again but it is a
29:32 fruitless wish
29:34 millions and millions of years will
29:36 bring me no near to the end of my
29:41 torments than one poor hour o eternity
29:44 eternity forever and forever o the
29:47 insufferable pangs
29:55 if you listen to Jesus
30:00 and in the middle
30:15 our Eternal destiny
30:19 the biggest storyline of humanity
30:21 would this not be
30:29 wouldn't this be the thing talked about
30:34 wouldn't somehow thus become
30:36 a part of the conversation of every
30:37 single day
30:40 would this not be
30:42 front and center and preeminent in every
30:45 relationship that we have a co-worker or
30:48 a bystander or
30:51 a neighbor or a family member or friend
30:53 or a workout partner would this not be
30:56 the storyline why isn't this every
30:59 headline on every paper in every day why
31:02 isn't this the top hit on the news feed
31:05 every single day
31:09 there's a 100 mortality rate on Earth
31:12 there's an offer of eternal life with a
31:15 perfect God through the death of his son
31:18 there's also the possibility of a tragic
31:22 eternity without God
31:24 but there's a gift on the table today
31:26 click here there's a gift on the table
31:29 today see the attachment there's a gift
31:31 on the table today swipe for more
31:33 information there's a gift on the table
31:36 today why isn't this the talk of
31:39 humanity instead we are all preoccupied
31:51 Cesar Borgia who is an Italian nobleman
31:52 a politician was a cardinal
31:55 he said well I lived I provided for
31:58 everything but death
32:00 now I must die
32:04 and I am unprepared
32:16 I pray that that we don't prepare
32:19 for everything we need to live and not prepare
32:22 prepare to die
32:24 to die
32:26 the takeaways are simple and clear
32:28 number one
32:31 your Eternal state
32:33 is decided long before you take your
32:40 Jesus words in John 3 16 whoever
32:43 believes in him has
32:44 eternal life
32:46 whoever does not believe in him stands
32:48 condemned already why because they were
32:50 condemned before I got here they were
32:52 condemned the moment that they stepped
32:54 into sin the moment that they joined a
32:55 Humanity that has fallen the moment that
32:57 they rebelled against the ways of God
32:59 the heart of God the character of God
33:02 the moment that they they fell short of
33:09 the highest moral code that there is
33:11 which is sin causes you to die
33:14 spiritually so that when you die
33:21 they were already there Jesus said when
33:22 I got here
33:24 and you're already there right now if
33:26 you have not put the weight of your
33:28 trust According To Jesus not according
33:30 to me if you have not put the weight of
33:32 your trust in the person of Jesus the
33:34 finished work of Jesus for your
33:36 forgiveness salvation and a right
33:38 standing with God you're under
33:40 condemnation right now
33:42 so if you took your last breath you
33:43 don't have to worry what's going to
33:47 happen then no you're already there
33:49 and if you put your faith in Jesus
33:52 you're already alive so you don't have
33:53 to worry as you're going in that
33:56 instantaneous seamless moment into a
33:58 meeting with god what the outcome is
33:59 going to be if your faith is in Jesus
34:02 you know what the outcome is going to be
34:04 and if your faith is not in Jesus
34:08 based on this moment today you also know
34:09 what your outcome
34:11 is going to be there are no scales that
34:13 way there is no
34:16 digital readout after all the inputs are
34:19 made there is no angel at the gate there
34:20 is no Peter
34:23 seeing if he recognizes you
34:25 the only question is has your name been
34:26 written in the book
34:28 of life
34:31 and if it's there it's there and if it's
34:37 I think the second
34:39 major takeaway and this might be a
34:41 bigger word for another day is that
34:45 God doesn't send people to hell
34:46 people always say how can a good God
34:53 the good God
34:55 doesn't send people to Hell the good God
34:58 sends his son to Earth to save people
35:07 and it's not God who sends people to
35:12 hell it's people's sin that sins people
35:14 to hell
35:16 Jesus said
35:19 you're going to hell which was prepared
35:21 for the devil
35:23 and his angels
35:24 not for you
35:27 wasn't made for you wasn't prepared for
35:29 you it wasn't God thinking all the while
35:31 oh look at Jennifer I'm sending her to
35:33 hell oh
35:35 look at Caleb I'm sending Caleb to hell
35:38 oh when I Stoke it up higher because I
35:41 want to put her in it no hell was
35:43 created for the devil and his angels not
35:51 God isn't sending you to hell
35:54 he's sending you a message today
36:01 believe
36:03 and I think the biggest takeaway of all
36:06 is what Amazing Grace how sweet to sound
36:09 it saved a Wretch like me because I once
36:11 was lost but now I am found I was blind
36:16 but now I see and when I was laying on
36:18 the subway tracks this is true of this
36:20 story that I read
36:21 in that story
36:24 A man jumped
36:27 onto the tracks [Music]
36:30 [Music]
36:32 and I know for me when I was laying on
36:33 those tracks
36:37 Jesus was willing
36:44 I know that sounds like a very dumbed
36:46 down illustration of what happened when
36:49 Jesus hung his life on a cross for you
36:50 and me
36:52 it was far more radical and powerful
36:54 than jumping in front of us of a subway
36:57 train because as God's Wrath
37:00 was headed toward me
37:03 God's love triggers his Mercy but God's
37:06 holiness triggers his wrath towards sin
37:07 and you want it to
37:10 and I want it to just not when it's
37:12 towards me
37:15 But Here Comes
37:16 I got no way to help myself I'm
37:18 spiritually dead wrath is coming I'm
37:20 already condemned it's a matter of time
37:24 when my last breath is breathed I am now
37:27 under the wrath of God and crushed by it
37:30 and here it comes and as it's coming
37:35 towards me Jesus Christ comes out of
37:40 heaven and he puts himself in between me
37:42 and the wrath of God [Music]
37:49 oh [Music]
37:56 this is the divine interception
38:07 he takes the condemnation
38:10 the condemnation
38:12 and the Wrath
38:22 and he says put your trust in what I
38:25 have done believe in what I have done
38:28 put the weight of your faith in what I
38:31 have done and you will live [Music]
38:38 when Jesus died [Music]
38:40 [Music]
38:44 we know the story died between
38:47 two thieves
38:49 I was just staring at that this week
38:52 Jesus between these criminals these
38:54 thieves we don't know what they stole
38:57 but thieves not a murderer
39:03 not an abuser
39:04 a thief
39:06 one over here and one over here [Music]
39:07 [Music]
39:09 and I just thought no way
39:11 I hadn't seen it before
39:13 what did he say to me he said Louis the thief
39:14 thief
39:17 comes to steal
39:18 steal kill
39:20 kill
39:23 destroy but I have come that you might
39:25 have life
39:28 and life abundant
39:37 giving up his life willingly
39:42 because he knew Satan was trying to
39:46 and he'll steal everything you've got
39:48 that's good
39:50 and godly
39:52 but what he wants to steal most from you [Music]
39:54 [Music]
39:58 is your opportunity to receive the gift
40:03 that changes your eternity because his
40:05 highest ultimate plan for you is to take
40:26 from The God Who Loved You So Much
40:28 that he gave himself
40:30 himself
40:32 to be with you [Music]
40:35 [Music]
40:38 the Bible says
40:41 God speaking I've set before your life
40:44 and I've set before you death
40:48 choose life [Music]
40:49 [Music]
40:52 so what happens to us when we die
40:56 holy Christ take hope today we don't
40:58 grieve as the world Grieves
41:00 praise God
41:04 oh we grieve but not as those without
41:06 hope because we know our loved one
41:10 profess their total trust in the
41:12 finished work of Jesus and the person of
41:14 Christ and we know that there was a
41:16 seamless transition out of this body
41:18 into the very presence of God and even
41:21 the body is going to be reunited in
41:24 glory with him praise God that's what happened
41:25 happened
41:31 and I pray
41:33 that you have that confidence today that
41:37 we all do because the gift of eternal
41:43 life is on the table right now you can end
41:44 end
41:47 the debate am I good enough for God
41:50 because if you think you are you're not
41:52 and if you don't think you are you're
41:55 not god is perfect and nobody's gonna
41:57 match that standard but there is a way
42:00 to get into the Perfection of God and
42:03 that is through the perfect one who gave
42:05 his life for you and invites you to come
42:10 and partake of his finished work for you
42:13 you can be forgiven you can be washed
42:17 clean you can be restored
42:20 into a relationship with God and you can
42:22 know right this minute
42:24 I'll tell you what's going to happen to
42:24 me when I die [Music]
42:26 [Music]
42:29 I'm going to be standing in Christ
42:31 who lives for
42:32 for ever
42:34 ever [Music]
