0:02 welding is a big big industry and
0:04 there's a lot of parts and pieces that
0:07 go into it the really high paying high
0:09 pressure pipe welding jobs that's where
0:20 you know my little story my background I
0:21 dropped out of high school when I was 16
0:24 years old and I was passionate I wanted
0:27 to weld bad and I wanted a weld pipe but
0:29 it's not for everybody there's
0:32 structural steel there's muffler shops
0:34 there's ornamental welding there's you
0:36 know High freak aluminum there's
0:38 Aerospace there's a hundred different
0:41 little portions of this welding industry
0:44 and the big money generally is in
0:48 nuclear repair or high pressure pipe so
0:51 to be in the top one percent you got to
0:54 be skilled you got to be Craftsman you
0:57 got to be taught by the best but more
0:59 importantly you got to have the drive
1:01 and the passion you got to have the work
1:03 ethic you don't just wake up one day and
1:06 decide I'm going to do this you need to
1:08 take inventory of yourself do you have
1:10 what it takes do you have the True Grit
1:12 do you have the passion the love Do You
1:15 Love looking through a 2x4 lens because
1:16 if you do
1:19 and you have what it takes you can make
1:21 a tremendous amount of money one of the
1:23 most common Industries out there is the
1:25 ornamental industry it's like more like
1:30 metal art the welding skill set it's
1:31 less about welding skill set and more
1:34 about Metallurgy and getting the metal
1:36 to turn certain colors when you're you
1:38 know flame drawn it or your you know
1:40 Rosebud heating this this metal Arc
1:42 getting paid for that that's a really
1:44 creative space but getting someone to
1:46 pay you a lot of money
1:49 to do that work probably not going to
1:53 happen that's more of a passion you feel
1:55 creative not a lot of money in it I
1:58 would say the next up would be you know
2:01 your muffler shops your handrail kind of
2:03 like your light duty structural steel
2:05 definitely a little bit more money in
2:08 that more skill you need to be able to
2:10 read blueprints you need to be able to
2:12 pull measurements and figure things out
2:14 critical thinking is important but still
2:16 you're going to be capped at probably
2:19 you know 20 to 30 dollars an hour above
2:21 that the next level of skill set is more
2:23 in like the heavy industrial structural
2:26 steel welding so there again that was
2:28 what we would say like your shipyards
2:32 your iron workers big structural steel
2:35 definitely more rigid workspace you know
2:38 safety is a bigger concern big cranes
2:41 building skyrises you know big boats the
2:43 weld's got to be made to a lot higher
2:46 standard but you're probably in that
2:47 range you're going to you're going to
2:50 top out at 30 to 40 dollars an hour The
2:53 Next Step Up is more of from a skill
2:55 perspective and a money standpoint is
2:58 more like low pressure piping
3:01 to medium to high pressure so these are
3:04 you know process piping hospitals you
3:06 know big commercial spaces uh like
3:08 apartment buildings you know some of
3:09 that kind of stuff there's everything
3:12 from breweries to Dairy production
3:14 plants you know and they're these are
3:17 definitely a much higher skill some of
3:19 the stuff is x-rayed some of it's not a
3:22 lot of it's pressure tested but you can
3:24 make a lot of money you know you can
3:25 make 40 plus dollars an hour working in
3:27 that kind of environment but the highest
3:30 level is a hundred percent x-ray high
3:33 pressure piping nuclear powerhouses
3:36 pipelines compressor stations anything
3:38 that's related to the energy because the
3:41 energy infrastructure is so critical to
3:43 our nation that they just don't play you
3:45 got to get out there you got to be a
3:49 grown adult with loyalty respect
3:51 accountability and work ethic and
3:53 they're going to pay you top dollar
3:54 hundreds of thousands of dollars a year
3:57 to perform at that level that's the big
4:00 league right you got to be skilled and
4:03 driven and you got to be a complete
4:05 master of your craft most of the work in
4:07 the first tiers of the welding industry
4:09 as I was talking about your muffler
4:11 shops your your structural steel
4:12 ornamental you know a lot of that stuff
4:15 takes place in fabrication shops so
4:17 these are controlled environment you
4:19 know the skill set is generally lower
4:21 and so the contractors try to control
4:24 that environment with shop overhead
4:26 cranes there's not a lot of weather in
4:29 there but there is a high amount of redundancy
4:30 redundancy
4:34 it's over and over and over your in a
4:35 sense you're just a machine and there's
4:37 nothing wrong with that if you're the
4:39 type of person that wants to show up to
4:41 the same place the same thing the same
4:44 people every day for 30 years you would
4:46 do great in that industry one of the
4:48 things about the the big leagues and the
4:51 top one percent these are aggressive
4:54 traveling high paying high hours you
4:57 know I would say a lot of big heavy
4:58 equipment a lot of moving parts and
5:00 pieces dangerous it's not for everybody
5:03 but the choice really is yours welding
5:06 is a massive industry it is the first
5:10 step in any man-made product rubber
5:13 steel concrete leather
5:17 food products breweries Dairy it doesn't
5:19 matter computer chips every man-made
5:22 product requires a welder it's the first
5:24 line it's the first thing people look at
5:26 these big plant owners it's the first
5:28 thing they look at who is going to weld
5:30 the structural steel and the high
5:32 pressure piping who's going to do that
5:35 work so choice is yours just a few facts
5:37 about the welding industry and what you
5:40 need to know about it pros and cons and
5:42 really it's up to you if you want to
5:44 play in the big leagues go to applywell.com
