0:08 and now we're going to get a doctor on
0:12 stage he is a surgical oncologist
0:15 oncology as I learned very painfully I
0:17 didn't know what the word meant but I
0:19 learned that very painfully it deals
0:22 with cancer when I first consulted an
0:26 oncologist for my father's condition but
0:29 he is like a missionary in the medical
0:30 world he started this organization
0:34 called cleansing but very importantly
0:38 he's bringing him he's kind of deploying
0:41 cutting-edge robotic technology in
0:45 oncological surgery so that is really
0:47 cutting edge now yesterday morning
0:50 onwards dr. Chinna Babu son Cavalli was
0:53 messaging us saying please pray there's
0:55 a patient who's struggling for his life
0:58 and he messages and said it looks
1:00 doesn't look very promising now but
1:02 afternoon he said he's surviving he's
1:03 doing better
1:05 I've never seen a doctor who's so
1:08 passionately involved in a patient's
1:11 recovery journey give him a big hand
1:14 welcome him on stage dr. Chinna Babu
1:16 thank you for making your time to be
1:21 here god bless you without SATA I thank
1:23 God and organizers for having given me
1:28 this opportunity to share my life story
1:31 I'm bit nervous even as I see such a
1:34 August gathering here so it won't be a
1:37 modesty to confess the same but what is
1:41 more important is that God has made me a
1:45 masterpiece would that sound good do you
1:51 think that a my boss think whatever the
1:54 emcee has introduced I believe God has
1:57 done not only that has done much more
2:00 than that to me I would say that I'm
2:02 more than what's been spoken off because
2:05 I am uniquely created as a masterpiece
2:10 by the master himself so God has taken
2:14 me you know from Hamlet to Hilton for an
2:16 utter most rural village which doesn't
2:18 have a road connectivity even today
2:21 it doesn't have a cement road today the
2:23 population of the village is less than
2:26 150 wherein I need to walk three
2:29 kilometres to go to my school barefoot
2:31 that kind of situation
2:34 God has lifted me up to work in the best
2:39 hospitals in the country today this is
2:42 because of the one word that is reminded
2:44 of what Paul says in Ephesians chapter 2
2:47 was 10 that this is because we are
2:50 created as a masterpiece for the good
2:53 works that God wants us to do which are
2:57 ordained to us before time in eternity
3:00 past God decided where I would be where
3:03 I would be working with what purpose I
3:05 would be working with what integrity
3:06 I'll be working with what kind of
3:08 excellence I will be showing in the
3:10 marketplace that has been predestinated
3:14 and decided by the Lord Himself so with
3:17 that in that prospect if I have to look
3:20 back and see me becoming a doctor was
3:22 not even in the remote radar of my
3:25 parents as I said before this is the
3:27 house know which this picture is taken
3:32 in the year probably 2010 or so imagine
3:35 20 years back or 25 years back what kind
3:38 of situation in which I was in we had
3:40 humble beginnings you know but I'm not
3:41 complaining about it I'm happy about it
3:43 the way the Lord has brought me up I
3:46 don't have any regrets for it but what's
3:49 more important is that not even a higher
3:52 education was possible in my village not
3:54 a single student went to reach a higher
3:56 education in the village I was happy
3:59 going to the school barefoot walking and
4:02 then I used to help my parents in the
4:05 forum I was given the responsibility of
4:08 grazing the cattle in the field I'm not
4:10 I'm not sure how many have you had this
4:12 experience but in one of the urban and
4:14 one of those early days we're back you
4:16 know when I was 10 years old I used to
4:18 do the chopping of the grass to feed the
4:21 cattle so even as I was excellent in
4:26 cutting the grass when I say that when I
4:29 say that when I say that when I was
4:31 cutting the grass I was so much soul you know
4:32 know
4:34 in cutting the grass that there was a
4:37 day when when I was cutting the grass I
4:40 happened to unknowingly cut the frontal
4:42 and the rear part of head and the tail
4:46 of a Cobra so that's that's how my
4:50 journey as a surgeon began when I was in
4:58 the field place god for it so how could
5:02 I become a doctor something big happen
5:05 in my life when I say big it is cosmic
5:07 when I say big there are key players
5:13 involved in making what I am today so no
5:16 no firstly I had a praying mother
5:18 he was the first I come from a Hindu
5:19 background she the first in the family
5:22 who knew the Lord personally and she was
5:25 a passionate lay missionary pastor she
5:27 was ministering in the villages in Davao
5:29 Gary Karnataka so she was the one who
5:32 was praying that her children would be
5:34 raised to in such a way that they would
5:36 bring glory to God's name I do not know
5:37 for what I don't know if she really
5:39 really ever prayed that I should become
5:41 a doctor but all that she prayed you
5:44 know in her own know her own language is
5:47 that I should think glory to God's name
5:50 so she was an element or I would say an
5:53 ardent prayer warriors so a praying
5:56 mother's role does have a significance
5:59 in in in your upbringing so what she
6:00 what else she could do other than just
6:02 praying I would say that you know she
6:04 kept on kneeling down early in the
6:08 morning at 4 o'clock pray fervently so
6:10 that our children are blessed even as we
6:13 had a very humble living secondly I had
6:14 a teacher who believed in me
6:18 a teacher who thought that this boy is
6:20 not meant for greater cattle or cutting
6:22 the grass I'm not belittling foremost I
6:25 respect them but he thought that I am
6:28 meant for something greater purpose than
6:30 doing what I was doing
6:33 thirdly I had somebody called by name
6:36 Rajiv Gandhi he happened he happened to
6:37 the Prime Minister of the country at
6:39 that point of time and he realized at
6:42 that point that people like me children
6:43 who were in villages needed to be
6:45 educated well resources to be provided
6:46 for them
6:48 that's when he got the idea of bringing
6:49 the concept of now what here with doraleous
6:50 doraleous
6:53 in the year 1986 I had the desire to
6:56 write the exam but the teacher said they
6:58 selected five students to write the exam
6:59 because that the first time this was
7:03 introduced the next day the teacher come
7:05 back comes back and says out of the five
7:07 three are disqualified only two are
7:09 eligible to write the exam I had a
7:11 desire in my heart that I also should
7:13 write but didn't have the boldness to
7:14 stand up and ask that I would write the
7:18 exam here in just when they were closing
7:20 their session a teacher a world teacher
7:23 by name J up I entered the school enters
7:26 my classroom he looks at me and says why
7:29 not this boy also write this exam dear
7:33 friends who sent him there he is God who
7:36 is in control of every situation and he
7:39 sent him so that I would be one among
7:41 those who write that exam and here and
7:42 here it goes I was the only one who was
7:44 selected for the Nadia school way back
7:51 in 1986 so now back to the word
7:54 masterpiece which I mentioned before to
7:57 craft me professionally as what I am
8:02 today God set my mother on prayer God
8:05 sent a teacher who believed in me and
8:08 who encouraged me and also God moved the
8:10 Indian government to resource for
8:15 education so God having great purposes
8:18 for each one of us he also makes sure
8:19 that he will provide the necessary
8:23 resources for us to accomplish what he
8:26 has planned for us even if it meant that
8:28 the heart of the Prime Minister has to
8:31 be moved that is possible with God so
8:34 God's purposes are fueled by God's resources
8:36 resources
8:38 he doesn't purpose anything for you we
8:41 thought a source without a resource in
8:43 your life now I want you to pause for a
8:47 moment and think in a win your heart
8:51 about how what are the key people who
8:55 played a role in your life who are more
8:57 resourceful for you in Europe bringing
9:04 now think of some people in whose life
9:08 can you be a source of influence in you
9:11 know in your office in the workplace you
9:12 can be a source of influence to somebody
9:14 maybe to prayer maybe just an
9:16 encouragement or made with some
9:20 resourcing my friends God can initiate
9:22 not only nationally scale but
9:25 internationally scaled projects with you
9:29 if you are available for him God is
9:32 looking for vessels and to honor
9:36 set apart for the Masters use he wants
9:38 to use you in a big way and he wants to
9:43 provide all the resources for you my
9:46 friends I would quickly touch upon the
9:49 integrity issues in my workplace in
9:52 violin Yin true greatness can never be
9:56 accomplished without integrity I came to
9:58 know the gospel substantially well when
10:02 I was doing medicine that's when that
10:03 the biggest miracle ever happen in my
10:06 life today but the director of applause
10:08 will ask me what is the secret of you
10:10 being happy all the time I see you
10:11 smiling all the time what is the secret
10:14 I say it is inner engineering done by
10:23 Jesus Christ so even if I have not
10:25 accomplished what I've accomplished I
10:28 still am the son of God that the biggest
10:32 thing for me and I can say that
10:35 education can make me a doctor but the
10:37 Christian ethics the Christian morals
10:40 would make me a good doctor there's a
10:41 lot of difference especially in the
10:44 present era of commercialization you
10:46 know what it means to be a doctor and a
10:49 good doctor so I did well in the school
10:52 and God took me to the medical school
10:55 by His grace and you know a village boy
10:57 a cowboy going to a medical school was a
11:00 big thing and everybody celebrated in
11:02 the village and you know in the medical
11:04 college it wasn't easy I was the one who
11:07 was nicknamed by my students as Gandhi
11:09 because in the first year I accepted
11:11 Jesus as my savior and that's
11:14 my life change and you know in a medical
11:17 college what is more important knowing
11:18 those days was money were the top
11:20 priority influence luck and last comes
11:23 knowledge as far as me is concerned
11:26 Jesus was my milk
11:29 he was my milk formula and once you
11:32 finish MBBS you are in Crossroads
11:35 because I had humble beginnings I had a
11:37 tough time to convince that I need to
11:38 prepare for posterization exams
11:40 everybody said you should get a
11:41 government job and work for the family
11:43 earn some money for the family the
11:44 well-meaning friends respective in their
11:46 tough times many people will come to
11:51 advise give you free advice so so much
11:52 so it happened that they took me to the
11:53 then Chief Minister of Karnataka JH
11:56 Modell's house I went to his room and
11:58 that's where he calls the kpac chairman
12:01 asking him to give a job for me for ESA
12:04 government job and here a chief mr.
12:05 calls and the interim with the questions
12:07 asked to move are nothing about the
12:09 subject the Chairman was asking
12:10 everything about politics he thought
12:11 that I am a good politically connected
12:14 person he asked me about how many MLA MP
12:16 suits you have there in Karnataka but I
12:18 never knew any of them but you know in
12:20 God's plan I was not destined for that
12:22 he saw to it that in the paperwork I was
12:25 disqualified so you know Chief Minister
12:27 wanted me to work there it was not in
12:31 God's plan for me and then God spoke to
12:33 me clearly through acts 1:8 that he
12:35 would take take me to that most part of
12:37 the earth and he promised me that I
12:40 should write an exam and that God would
12:41 give me a seat in the All India entrance
12:44 for postgraduate studies and that's how
12:47 I prepared for the exam and when to give
12:51 the exam on January 5th 2001 just before
12:53 the exam day on previous night my
12:55 friends calls me up those times bring
12:56 their mobile phones so he called to my
12:58 hotel and said we have the answer key
13:01 available for file X we are all put up
13:04 in a room and the key is available what
13:05 do you want to do are you interested
13:07 three or four people can come together
13:09 you can share the amount and then still
13:11 you can get a free seat at those times
13:13 getting a portion it was permanent it
13:15 was close to 70 lakhs to 1 crore
13:18 so it was a tempting time for me it was
13:21 a test of my integrity then I prayed and
13:22 committed to the Lord Lord you gave me a
13:24 promise and you
13:26 to fulfill the promise that you gave to
13:31 me and that's how God became my strength
13:34 he became my wisdom and he became my
13:37 reward to I could get masters in general
13:39 surgery through that entrance exam and I
13:49 once I finished my Master's general surgery
13:49 surgery
13:51 the question was everybody was thinking
13:53 to go to us that the UK or the settle
13:55 back in India what you do then I put one
13:57 condition before the Lord Lord I want to
13:59 stay back in India if you give me a
14:01 super speciality degree you know in one
14:03 exam that I will write I will not write
14:05 it more than one exam if you give me a
14:07 seat in this exam I will consider that
14:08 as your bid for me and stay back in the
14:11 country and lo I give the exam for all
14:13 India for super specialty degree for MCH
14:15 in surgical oncology and you know in a
14:17 country with a population of that point
14:19 of was close to 1.1 billion and he had
14:21 ten seats in surgical oncology super
14:23 speciality and this humble man from a
14:27 village becomes one among them so I
14:30 praise God for his provision and all
14:32 through my life my education has been
14:33 tuition free except for the nominal
14:35 government fees everything has been free
14:41 because my resource is God himself and
14:43 once I finished my super spirituality I
14:46 landed in Hyderabad and that was time I
14:48 was about to practice to began at common
14:52 Hospital and here I saw that or have I
14:54 seen a good friend of mine came to me
14:56 and said if you already establish in
14:58 your practice you need to host many
15:00 parties you know you need to kind of
15:01 drink for them you need to kind of and
15:03 that's how you develop your network and
15:06 become close friends but I said I do not
15:08 want to compromise on my Christian
15:10 values and here I say my biggest
15:12 reference my biggest network is with
15:16 Jesus himself the Lord was with Joseph
15:19 and he was successful man I can testify
15:22 today that God was with me and that's
15:24 how I could see success in the workplace
15:26 even as I continued to practice at
15:28 coming in hospitals God gave me a and
15:30 you know burden to start a clinical
15:33 research company called cleansing you
15:35 know in this country clinical research
15:37 is viewed suspicion wherein integrity
15:38 ethics are
15:40 most important and we started
15:42 established it was seven years ago with
15:44 the co-founders with an agreement that
15:45 come what may
15:48 we shall not deviate from the norms and
15:51 believe me dear friends we lost seventy
15:53 percent of the business because we
15:55 didn't want to do any studies any
15:57 projects which were violating the
16:01 regulatory norms even at the cost of it
16:03 today I can say no because we took a
16:05 stand - you know - not to violate the
16:07 norms God has blessed us so much so that
16:11 today cleansing is not only in India it
16:12 has no an office in Dubai it has an
16:15 office base this year the new office in
16:17 Vietnam is opening up and in the US will
16:19 be opening up a third office this is
16:22 because people around the people in this
16:24 world are looking for institutions
16:27 organizations with integrity they value
16:29 it more even if they don't practice they
16:30 are looking for people who have these
16:33 values that's so even if monetarily we
16:35 didn't make great progress but because
16:36 of the values because of the integrity
16:39 we were chosen to be in their radar so
16:41 that they put partner with us
16:43 strategically and we could now go on to
16:48 expand cleansing across the globe so
16:51 this is when in 2012 I came to Apollo so
16:51 I will talk a little bit about
16:53 excellence my time is running out I'm
16:54 sure I will be able to finish before
16:57 time I will share a couple of stories
16:59 under with that I would like to end so I
17:00 went to one of the best cancer
17:01 institutes in the world called Memorial
17:03 sloan-kettering in Newark and the
17:05 Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the
17:08 Buffalo this is where I saw one poster
17:10 in the hospital in the OT they put this
17:12 perfection is our goal excellence will
17:15 be tolerated this is what Lord expects
17:18 from our life he is perfect I'm not
17:21 perfect but he wants me to think of
17:23 excellence in everything that I do today
17:25 how do we approach excellence in my life
17:26 I would look at three ways in which I
17:28 look at excellence I want to align with
17:31 God's purposes as number one number two
17:32 enhancement of skills you need to
17:34 enhance your skills and you need to be
17:37 guided by the holy spirit for the timely
17:39 wisdom and both these are possible
17:41 through prayer so let me share a story
17:44 about a patient who who was a VIP and
17:47 most of times VIPs do have such problems
17:50 this was the radical surgery this was a
17:52 radical surgery for a custom of the
17:53 cervix and we had to do a radical
17:56 hysterectomy so one of the assistant
17:58 during the retraction they injured a
18:00 major vein called iliac vein at the
18:03 junction within him second the whole
18:07 field was full of blood and within few
18:08 seconds everybody came to watch what
18:10 would this boy do because that was not
18:12 one of the early cases all right I
18:13 compressed the vein so that the bleeding
18:15 would stop and cool in the whole area
18:18 and then I said Lord we need you
18:21 desperately that was the load prayer
18:23 because that was a junction at a
18:24 critical point I didn't have a second
18:28 chance even as I prayed and took a
18:30 stitch a timely right one stitch you
18:32 don't have a chance to no medal around
18:35 that area and one stitch the bleeding
18:37 company nor a drop of blood and that is
18:39 the power of prayer that is the power of
18:41 prayer it is not my excellence not my
18:44 skill that is the power of prayer and
18:46 Deb dear friends I can tell you very
18:50 confidently today - the taste reminds me
18:53 of prayer last week I was in a hurry to
18:54 start a robotic surgery I came late to
18:56 the party they're already set to go and
18:57 I took the knife and I were to put the
19:00 incision - Anastasia she reminds me say
19:04 star prayer is not over so that is the
19:06 kind she she's she's trained that you
19:07 know we have to pray before we start the
19:09 case that's when I realized before I
19:11 start every surgery I need to pray and
19:14 desperately ask for God's wisdom and
19:17 guidance so I'll also quickly go through
19:19 the another Hank I know another hat that
19:21 I wear is God enabled me to start an NGO
19:23 called grace Cancer Foundation as a
19:25 social enterprise you know based on the
19:26 Christian principles showing the love of
19:29 Christ in the marketplace so that even
19:31 as you run around even as you work
19:34 amongst the others you would show the
19:35 test of your character in the in their
19:38 midst so this has been you know
19:40 wonderful journey through grace Cancer
19:42 Foundation we could reach you know close
19:44 to five million people you know we could
19:46 this is one thing which is very close to
19:48 my heart because this is how we reach to
19:50 the most marginalized section of the
19:52 society we go right to the doorstep for
19:54 the people who are really poor to go to
19:57 their doorstep that is being possible as
19:59 the legacy to my mother who was you know
20:01 a significant influence a mother in my
20:03 life and we started off with a mobile
20:05 cancer screening campaign so we start
20:06 off with one
20:08 bus bus was donated was by State Bank of
20:10 India even we did ask them they said we
20:13 have funds to as CSR do you want to do
20:15 anything with this fund they came with a
20:17 a stress and the Lord showed us that we
20:18 need to go to the villages through this
20:20 mobile cancer screening campaign today
20:23 I'm very happy to share with you that
20:25 God has blessed this what has started
20:27 just an awareness campaign has
20:29 catapulted into a pink revolution where
20:31 in you know hundreds of the volunteers
20:33 have joined this campaign and we are
20:36 able to reach the millions of people in
20:38 order to bring not only awareness but
20:40 also detect the cancer early because
20:41 that's when you have the best results
20:45 with you so the impact is significant
20:47 you know in and through this foundation
20:49 God has been working you know wonderful
20:50 things and teaching me wonderful lessons
20:53 so what is more important is that it is
20:54 not about the records are the numbers
20:56 but it is about a single life that is
20:59 touched by your work so that's what
21:00 which gives us at the end of the day you
21:02 know God has enabled us not only to work
21:04 through this foundation but also to
21:06 start a cancer hospital in Islamabad
21:09 where in unity we wanted to bridge the
21:11 gap in the health care so there was the
21:14 very outdated COBOL to the therapy of a
21:16 radiation equipment and a world hospital
21:18 Islam bath and God increased me that you
21:19 know even as I wasn't visiting this
21:20 Center for the last ten years every
21:22 Friday I operate there for the poorest
21:24 of the poor that's where we started this
21:26 unit putting the state-of-the-art
21:28 radiotherapy equipment and giving the
21:30 best-in-class cancer treatment in the
21:32 remote place that's how we wanted to
21:35 bring the best advanced cancer care
21:37 access through the key care within the
21:39 reach of a common man so this is how God
21:42 has been using me in the marketplace for
21:44 his glory I just want to give you one
21:47 call at this point of time that you know
21:50 to be successful in the marketplace I be
21:52 you and I need to desperately depend on
21:54 God and we need to have an ambition to
21:56 live a life of legacy I'll just take
21:58 quickly 30 more seconds to tell one
22:00 story in which God amazingly worked in
22:02 my life and changed my perspective about
22:04 life there is one patient held that
22:05 cancer these are figures and this
22:08 patient was one of the earliest cases
22:10 that I have done in Khamenei a six-hour surgery
22:10 surgery
22:12 I took promise from the world of God
22:14 Joshua 1 you know 9 God spoke to me that
22:16 he'll be my strength did the surgery
22:17 very well within for us finish the
22:19 surgery went on very well third day or
22:20 fourth day patient
22:22 develop respiratory complications so she
22:24 was put on a ventilator she was never
22:26 going to make it that is the time I told
22:29 her only Jesus can deliver you that's
22:31 what I believe in and she with tubes in
22:34 and she she nodded her head and the next
22:36 few days she'd iterated and we decided
22:38 to discourage the ventilator in the
22:40 ambulance and send her home so that the
22:42 cost will come down so with so much of
22:44 pain I sent back the patient home with
22:46 in the Himalayan saying that thinking
22:48 that they will body have the same day
22:50 after one week I happened to go to a
22:51 medical college for teaching in
22:54 narketpalli and that's where I find one
22:57 lady coming with tubes and bags shouting
22:59 from behind hello sir I'm your patient
23:07 I'm still alive so they're friends
23:09 it's a miracle because she trusts in God
23:13 and God healed her I gave up I sent her
23:16 back so our purpose is really not ours
23:19 it is his over integrity he it is not ours
23:20 ours
23:23 he helps us our excellence is based on
23:26 his provision it's all about him grace
23:30 it is not what we live for others which
23:32 matters but what matters is what we
23:34 leave in them so we need to live a life
23:38 of legacy in order to live legacy in
23:40 order to leave legacy you need to leave
23:40 a legacy
23:42 I believe it the best is yet to come for
23:44 me you see in the stuff a picture there
23:46 I dream I tell to my daughter my legacy
23:49 for you he is a fleet of hundred buses
23:51 not to one them but to go and drive them
23:53 so that you can impact millions of
