0:03 I want to read two portions of the word
0:06 of God we've been considering in these
0:10 evening Services the Milestones of the
0:13 master those key events in his Earthly
0:16 life that we need to understand we've
0:18 had his birth and his baptism and his
0:20 temptation his
0:23 Transfiguration and now tonight his triumphal
0:25 triumphal
0:27 entry next Sunday evening the Lord
0:30 willing we shall consider his death then
0:32 of course his resurrection and his
0:35 Ascension and what they mean to us the
0:37 two passages are Matthew CH
0:40 21 veres
0:48 19 beginning at verse 28 and reading
0:51 through verse
0:54 44 Matthew
0:57 211 and when they drew near unto
1:00 Jerusalem and were come to bethe
1:01 unto the Mount of
1:04 Olives then sent Jesus two disciples
1:07 saying unto them go into the village
1:09 opposite you and straight way you shall
1:13 find an ass tied and a colat with her
1:16 loose them and bring them unto me and if
1:18 any man say anything unto you you shall
1:22 say the Lord hath need of them and
1:24 straightway he will send
1:26 them all this was done that it might be
1:29 fulfilled which was spoken by the
1:30 prophets saying
1:33 and here he quotes from Zechariah
1:36 9:9 tell ye the daughter of Zion Behold
1:39 thy King cometh unto thee Meek and
1:42 sitting upon an ass and a Colt the full
1:45 of an ass and the disciples went and did
1:48 as Jesus commanded them and brought the
1:51 ass and the colt and put on them their
1:54 clothes and they set him
1:56 thereon and a very great multitude
1:59 spread their garments in the way others
2:01 cut down branches from the trees and
2:03 spread them in the way and the
2:05 multitudes that went before and that
2:08 followed cried saying hosana to the son
2:11 of David blessed is he that cometh in
2:15 the name of the Lord hosana in the
2:18 highest and when he was come into
2:21 Jerusalem all the city was moved saying
2:24 who is this and the multitude said that
2:28 this is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee
2:31 Galilee
2:33 Luke chapter
2:37 9 I'm going to begin at verse 37 if I
2:40 may the previous part is pretty much like
2:41 like
2:45 Matthew's record and when he was come
2:47 near even at The Descent of the Mount of
2:49 Olives the whole multitude of the
2:52 disciples began to rejoice and praise
2:56 God with a loud voice for all the mighty
2:59 works that they had seen saying blessed
3:01 be the king King who cometh in the name
3:04 of the Lord peace in heaven and glory in the
3:05 the
3:08 highest and some of the Pharisees from
3:10 among the multitude said unto him Master
3:11 rebuke thy
3:13 disciples and he answered and said unto
3:16 them I tell you that if these should
3:18 hold their peace the stones would
3:20 immediately cry
3:23 out and when he was come near he beheld
3:27 the city and wept over it saying if thou
3:30 had known even thou
3:32 at least in this thy day the things
3:36 which belong unto thy peace but now they
3:40 are hidden from thine eyes for the day
3:41 shall come upon thee that thine enemy
3:44 shall cast a trench about thee and
3:46 Compass thee
3:49 roundabout and keep thee on every side
3:53 and shall lay thee even with the ground
3:56 and thy children within thee and they
3:59 shall not leave in thee one stone upon another
4:01 another
4:06 because thou knowest not the time of thy
4:09 visitation we call this event the triumphal
4:11 triumphal
4:14 entry meaning of course his entry into
4:15 the city of
4:18 Jerusalem but when you look at this
4:22 event closely it's difficult to find
4:24 Triumph here you have a group of
4:28 ordinary peasants just poor people the
4:31 high priests weren't there the Sanhedrin
4:34 wasn't there the important people of the
4:37 city weren't there just a group of
4:39 peasants on their way to the
4:42 feast and they take their old clothes
4:44 and put them on the animals and put them
4:47 on the ground they cut down Palm leaves
4:50 which are a picture of peace and they
4:53 they cry out from the Old Testament
4:56 Psalm hosana which means saved
4:59 now you don't have the Lord Jesus in a
5:03 chariot or on a horse you have him on a
5:07 a Meek lowly
5:10 donkey surrounded by
5:14 peasants honored by branches of trees
5:16 and old
5:21 clothes and we call this the triumphal
5:23 entry now the Roman soldiers who were
5:25 there must have
5:30 laughed because the Roman people had
5:32 their version of our ticker tape parade
5:34 called the Roman
5:37 Triumph whenever a Roman General on
5:41 foreign soil won a complete victory over
5:44 the enemy he killed at least 5,000 of
5:47 the enemy and he gained new territory
5:51 when he came back to Rome they gave him
5:52 a triumphal
5:56 entry they had a golden Chariot for him
5:59 they had armies that marched before and behind
6:00 behind
6:03 they had people bearing incense the
6:06 priests were there to give honor to the
6:09 gods sacrifices were LED down to the
6:13 temples a great Parade route was uh
6:16 ascertained in Rome as the great
6:19 conqueror was hailed by the people and
6:21 of course in this triumphal procession
6:23 were always some of the captives who
6:26 were going to be slain down at the
6:28 arena the Roman soldiers looked at each
6:30 other and said what is is this well it's
6:32 a triumphal entry you ought to come to
6:35 Rome if you want to see a real
6:38 Triumph but you see we as Christians do
6:42 not um walk by sight we walk by
6:45 faith and no matter how this may look in
6:48 comparison to what the world would do
6:51 this was a triumphal
6:54 entry it was a Triumph for the Lord
6:56 Jesus Christ you see we as Christians
7:00 look at this event and we look deeper
7:02 and we look
7:05 farther the trouble with many people
7:07 today is they don't look deeply enough
7:09 and they don't look far enough and what
7:12 looks like a great Victory today turns
7:15 out to be a defeat next week not so with
7:18 our Lord Jesus Christ it was a victory for
7:20 for
7:23 him because
7:25 ultimately the
7:28 temple was
7:31 destroyed ultimately the
7:33 City was
7:37 destroyed ultimately Jesus Christ
7:41 brought together Jew and Gentile in a
7:44 miraculous new thing the
7:47 church he broke down the middle wall of
7:50 partition that was in the temple he tore
7:52 the veil that was in the temple He
7:57 restored to us that Oneness with God he
7:58 made it possible for men to be
8:01 reconciled to God and for men to be
8:04 reconciled to each other and so it was a
8:07 victory it wasn't just a victory for the
8:11 Jews it was a victory for the whole
8:13 world now you and I need to share in
8:16 this Triumph of our Lord Jesus Christ
8:18 there isn't a person here tonight who
8:25 Victory there's some area in each of Our
8:28 Lives where God needs to come in and
8:31 bring peace
8:35 and if you and I understand the meanings
8:37 involved in this triumphal
8:39 entry I think it will help us to share
8:41 in the victory of Christ I want us to
8:44 look at three different meanings
8:47 tonight first what it meant to Jesus
8:52 Christ secondly what it meant to Israel
8:55 and thirdly what it means to Believers
8:58 today and three words will summarize
9:00 these what what does it mean to Jesus
9:04 Christ one word
9:07 obedience what did it mean to Israel one word
9:09 word
9:12 opportunity what does it mean to us
9:15 tonight as Christians one word
9:17 word
9:20 obligation word number one obedience
9:22 what did this event mean to the Lord
9:27 Jesus Christ it meant that he was going
9:33 to obey and F fill the word of
9:35 God he say but Pastor that sounds so
9:38 obvious didn't Jesus always obey and
9:42 fulfill the word of God yes yes he did
9:44 in fact the gospel of Matthew is filled
9:47 with this uh some uh months ago I had
9:49 the privilege of teaching the gospel of
9:51 Matthew at a Bible Conference we didn't
9:53 get to finish it you can't teach the
9:55 whole gospel in one week but I was
9:57 utterly amazed to find over and over
10:00 again one word repeated by Matthew
10:06 fulfilled Matthew 1 and verse 22 now all
10:08 of this was done that it might be
10:11 fulfilled behold the Virgin shall be
10:14 with child he was born in obedience to
10:15 the word of
10:19 God over in Chapter 2 and verse 15 when
10:22 they left to go down to Egypt and they
10:24 were there until the death of Herod that
10:26 it might be fulfilled which was spoken
10:28 by the Lord through the prophet saying
10:31 out of of Egypt have I called my son he
10:34 went to Egypt in obedience to the
10:38 word down in Chapter 2 of Matthew and
10:42 verse um well 23 he came and dwelt in a
10:44 city called Nazareth that it might be
10:46 fulfilled which was spoken by the
10:48 prophets he should be called a Nazarene
10:50 where he went to live was in obedience
10:52 to the word of God wonder how many
10:54 people today choose their address in
10:57 obedience to the will of
11:02 God over in chapter 4 4 verse 14 he left
11:04 Nazareth he went to capernium why that
11:07 it might be fulfilled which was spoken
11:10 by Isaiah the prophet over in chapter 8
11:14 of The Gospel of Matthew and in verse
11:17 17 he was casting out demons and healing
11:20 people that it might be fulfilled which
11:22 was spoken by Isaiah the prophet over in
11:29 17 that it might be fulfilled which was
11:32 spoken by Isaiah the prophet behold my
11:34 servant whom I have chosen now we could
11:36 go on and on and on through the gospel
11:40 of Matthew to underscore one tremendous
11:42 fact wherever Jesus
11:47 went and whatever Jesus did it was in
11:49 obedience to the word of
11:53 God now when the Lord Jesus mounted this
11:55 CT and went into
11:58 Jerusalem he was obeying three
12:00 particular particular
12:03 scriptures one of them
12:06 said that he would come the other one
12:08 said how he would come and the third one
12:10 said when he would come now let's look
12:14 at them back in Psalm
12:16 118 this is the psalm that the
12:18 multitudes were quoting when they
12:22 shouted hosana in the highest Psalm
12:26 118 this Psalm has to do with our Lord
12:30 Jesus Christ it's a Messianic psalm verse
12:31 verse
12:36 25 save now I beseech thee Oh Lord oh
12:41 Lord I beseech thee send now Prosperity
12:43 blessed is he that cometh in the name of
12:46 the Lord we have blessed you out of the
12:50 house of the Lord now this particular
12:53 Psalm written centuries before said that
12:56 Jesus Christ the Messiah is going to
12:58 come he's going to come in the name of
13:01 the Lord and the multitudes are going to
13:04 say hosana which means save
13:07 now my own conviction is that most of
13:08 those people weren't talking about spiritual
13:10 spiritual
13:12 salvation they thought that Jesus Christ
13:14 was going to come establish an Earthly
13:17 Kingdom defeat Rome throw Caesar out
13:20 reestablish the great Kingdom of Israel
13:21 and that's what they were saying save
13:24 now Deliver Us from ROM taxes Deliver Us
13:26 from Roman soldiers that's not what Psalm
13:27 Psalm
13:32 118:25 has has to do it says save now I
13:34 beseech thee Oh Lord oh Lord I beseech
13:37 thee send now Prosperity what kind of
13:44 Prosperity now if they had only stopped
13:47 and gone back just a few verses to verse
13:52 22 the stone which the builders refused
13:54 is become the head of the corner do you
13:57 know what it meant for Jesus Christ to
13:59 obey God's word and go into into
14:01 Jerusalem it meant being
14:04 rejected nobody wants to be
14:08 rejected when our savior obeyed Psalm
14:12 118 Verse 26 and he came in the name of the
14:14 the
14:18 Lord he was walking right up to
14:21 Calvary I wonder how many of us are
14:22 willing to
14:25 obey when it means
14:29 suffering and death that's one thing to
14:31 obey when it means a
14:34 promotion blessing how many of us are
14:37 willing to obey when it means suffering and
14:38 and
14:40 death now the second scripture that our
14:45 Lord obeyed was over in Daniel chapter 9
14:49 and verse 27 now I will not go into this
14:52 prophecy in detail because it is too
14:55 complex for this kind of a message if
14:57 you've got a scoffield Bible the note
14:59 there is just about as clear clear as
15:02 you'll find any place but in Daniel 9
15:04 beginning at verse 24
15:06 24
15:12 Gabriel says to Daniel God has a program
15:14 worked out for Israel
15:16 Israel
15:21 490 years are determined upon thy people
15:24 that's the Jews upon thy holy city that's
15:24 that's
15:28 Jerusalem to finish the transgression to
15:30 make an end of sins to make
15:33 reconciliation for iniquity and to bring
15:36 in Everlasting righteousness to seal up
15:39 the vision and prophecy and anoint the
15:42 most holy now he goes into detail as to
15:44 the sequence of these years if you want
15:48 to read a remarkable
15:51 book there is a book called The Silence
15:54 of God by Sir Robert Anderson you know
15:57 who Sir Robert Anderson was he was the
16:01 founder of Scotland Yard in Great
16:05 Britain Sir Robert Anderson was the main
16:08 Police Commissioner over in London and a
16:11 man of God and a brilliant student of
16:13 the word now he did something I wouldn't
16:17 have the patience to do he sat down with
16:20 this prophetic calendar and he worked it
16:24 out with the Royal astronomer of
16:27 Britain and came to the
16:29 conclusion that on the very very day
16:32 that Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem this
16:36 prophecy was fulfilled to the very day
16:37 now I just challenge you to read Sir
16:39 Robert Anderson's book because the
16:42 explanation is far too complex for a
16:44 Pulpit presentation so our Lord when he
16:48 entered Jerusalem was obeying Psalm
16:51 118 he's coming in the name of the Lord
16:54 he was obeying Daniel chapter 9 which
16:56 tells us when he would come and then you
16:58 turn to Zechariah Chapter 9 which tells
17:00 us how he's going to
17:03 come the book of Zechariah is
17:06 saturated with Messianic
17:08 prophecy I hope that the Jewish people
17:11 in Jerusalem are studying Zechariah
17:13 because no book in the Old Testament
17:15 says more about Jerusalem than does
17:17 Zechariah Chapter
17:22 9:9 Rejoice greatly o Daughter of Zion
17:25 shout o daughter of Jerusalem Behold thy
17:29 King cometh unto thee he is just
17:31 and having salvation
17:33 salvation
17:36 lowly and riding upon an ass and upon a
17:40 Colt the fo of an ass this tells us how
17:42 he would come interestingly enough the
17:46 first eight verses of Zechariah nine are
17:50 a prophecy of Alexander the Great here
17:54 is a gentile ruler who swept across the
17:56 known world and if you know your history
17:59 and many of you do when he got to
18:02 Jerusalem he didn't do what he intended to
18:03 to
18:07 do he kept the city intact God protected
18:11 the city but in chapter 9:9 you have not
18:14 a gentile King coming to devastate you
18:18 have a Jewish King coming to deliver and
18:21 to bring peace and so when our lord
18:23 Jesus entered into Jerusalem he was
18:28 obeying Zechariah 9:9 in every detail of
18:31 his ENT now what did this mean for
18:35 him think with me our Lord had never
18:38 done anything like this
18:41 before our Lord Jesus Christ in his
18:45 Earthly Ministry deliberately avoided public
18:47 public
18:50 displays our lord Jesus was not the kind
18:52 of a person in his Earthly Ministry who
18:55 paraded himself in fact one of the
18:57 prophecies is he shall not lift his
18:59 voice in the street
19:01 he shall not cry aloud and get attention
19:04 to himself he'd heal somebody and say
19:06 don't tell anybody when he saw the
19:08 crowds were getting too big he went off
19:11 to some quiet place by himself he
19:15 deliberately avoided the crowds and yet
19:19 on this day he deliberately created a
19:21 demonstration do you know what he was
19:24 doing when he did this he was sealing
19:27 his own death warrant let me tell you
19:31 why the Sanhedrin the Jewish Council had
19:34 already determined that he was going to
19:38 die and their plan was not during the
19:40 feast lest we create a commotion
19:43 remember that but he had to die during
19:46 the feast he had to die on the Passover
19:49 day the Old Testament scriptures had
19:53 said he's the Lamb of God slain for our
19:56 sins John the Baptist had said Behold
19:59 the Lamb of God and so Jesus Christ had
20:03 to be slain on that Passover
20:05 day now God doesn't make people do
20:09 things against their will he just makes
20:12 them willing to do it and that's what
20:15 our Lord did when our Lord entered into
20:18 Jerusalem and the scribes and chief
20:22 priests saw the multitude coming out
20:25 from Jerusalem to meet him the multitude
20:28 From Galilee marching in with him and
20:31 the crowd shouting the king of Israel
20:33 hosana you know what they said John 12
20:35 tells us what they said behold the whole
20:39 world is gone after him and they
20:42 covenanted together to get rid of him as
20:50 could so our lord Jesus in fulfilling Zechariah
20:51 Zechariah
20:54 9:9 Psalm
20:59 11826 and Daniel 9: 24 and on in
21:01 fulfilling those three scriptures with
21:09 warrant I wonder if you and I would ever
21:12 obey the scriptures to the point of
21:14 death he
21:17 did now on the other side of that death was
21:18 was
21:20 resurrection and on the other side of
21:22 Resurrection was Ascension and at the
21:26 end of Ascension was Authority and glory
21:29 on the throne but it's always that way
21:31 somebody here tonight is wrestling with
21:33 a problem of
21:36 obedience you're saying pastor if I obey
21:38 what the word of God says it may cost me my
21:39 my
21:42 job if I obey what the word of God says
21:46 it may cost me my friend or my
21:50 family Jesus obeyed the word of God in
21:52 spite of what it cost
21:56 him and the blessing on the other side
21:59 was worth it you see you and I don't
22:02 look far enough we don't see far enough
22:04 we say if I obey the word of God I'll
22:07 lose my job oh Lord then what and God
22:10 says I have planned for you the kind of
22:12 blessings I give to those who obey my
22:16 word yes there may be death there may be
22:19 mockery they mocked his
22:22 kingship remember how they did it they
22:23 stripped him of his robe and they put an
22:27 old faded robe on him and a reed in his
22:30 hand and a crown of thorns on his head
22:33 and mockingly the soldiers fell before
22:40 Jews they mocked
22:44 him but our Lord experienced the kind of
22:47 Victory and Glory that God gives to
22:49 those who obey
22:52 him now he may not give it to you on this
22:54 this
22:57 side of Heaven there may be some here
22:59 tonight who have been
23:01 mistreated you've obeyed the word of God
23:03 and it's been
23:05 rough you say God hasn't honored me yet
23:09 just be patient he
23:13 will them that honor me says the Lord I
23:15 will honor what did it mean to Jesus
23:24 obedience obedience to the point of
23:26 death there are very few of us here
23:28 tonight who have ever faced that kind of
23:29 a DE
23:32 decision We complain because if we obey
23:34 we might lose a friend or if we obey we
23:37 might lose this or that do any of us
23:40 here tonight face the decision if I obey
23:46 life our Lord
23:50 did what did this event mean to Israel
23:52 one word
23:53 opportunity would you look at
23:56 Deuteronomy chapter 20 there is an
24:00 interesting law that God gave to his
24:02 people when they were Conquering the
24:05 Holy Land Deuteronomy CH 20 many people
24:08 don't know about this law a man stopped
24:10 me one day and he said you know I don't
24:13 like what God did to those cities in
24:15 Canaan I said what do you mean why he
24:17 said he had the Jews go in there and
24:20 just ruthlessly wipe them I said wait
24:22 just a minute hold on do you ever notice
24:24 that people who criticize God don't read the
24:26 the
24:29 Bible I said in the first place God had
24:33 given those people hundreds of years to
24:35 repent in the second place they heard
24:38 all that God had done in the wilderness
24:41 for 40 years they'd heard all about it
24:44 and they had a chance to repent and
24:46 anybody who
24:50 repented would have been saved I said in
24:51 the third place did you ever read
24:54 Deuteronomy 20 where God gives the law
24:57 of warfare and he says to his armies
25:01 before you declare war declare peace
25:04 Deuteronomy 20 when thou goest out to
25:08 battle against thine enemies and see us
25:11 horses chariots and a people more than
25:13 thou be not afraid of them for the Lord
25:16 thy God is with thee who brought thee up
25:18 out of the land of Egypt so he said you
25:21 go out and fight by faith now verse 10
25:24 when thou comest near unto a city to
25:28 fight against it then Proclaim peace unto
25:29 unto
25:33 it don't declare war declare peace and
25:35 it shall be if it make thee an answer of
25:38 peace and open unto thee then it shall
25:40 be that all the people who are found
25:43 therein shall be bonder servants unto
25:47 thee and they Shall Serve thee and if it
25:49 will make no peace with thee but will
25:53 make war against thee then Thou shalt
25:56 Beech it you see God is a gracious God
25:58 and here is the Lord Jesus who could
26:01 have declared war on
26:04 Jerusalem he could have said the
26:09 temple is being used for wickedness he
26:10 could have said the high
26:14 priest is an unbelieving hypocrite he
26:16 could have Unearthed all of the
26:19 godlessness of their
26:21 religion he could have declared war on
26:23 the city but instead he came and declared
26:25 declared
26:28 peace Jerusalem means city of peace
26:29 peace or
26:33 Foundation of peace and yet no city has
26:35 been the center of more war down through
26:38 history than his Jerusalem our lord
26:43 Jesus gave to them an opportunity of
26:47 peace now we turn to Luke chap 19 and
26:50 read once again what it has to
26:56 say our lord Jesus weeps over the city
26:59 if thou has known even th at least in
27:01 this thy day what day is that the day
27:04 that the Lord had made for them Psalm
27:07 118 says this is the day which the Lord
27:10 hath made we will rejoice and be glad in
27:13 it God gave them a day of
27:16 salvation if thou had known even thou at
27:20 least in this thy day the things which
27:22 belong unto thy
27:24 peace they thought they were going to
27:29 have peace by Killing Jesus well his
27:31 death on the cross did purchase peace
27:34 peace with God peace between Jew and
27:37 Gentile in the church having made Peace
27:39 by the blood of his cross but for the
27:42 city and for the nation it meant War
27:46 Jesus came and declared
27:49 peace and they declared
27:52 war there's a familiar statement back in
27:55 Luke chap 2 that everybody quotes at
27:59 Christmas time in Luke chapter 2 when
28:01 the Angels Came
28:06 to uh announce the uh birth of the Lord
28:09 Jesus you remember how they
28:13 said glory to God in the highest Luke
28:16 2:14 and on Earth
28:19 peace Good Will toward man in other
28:22 words here comes the Messiah he's being
28:30 well turn to Luke
28:34 12 what happens to this peace on Earth Luke
28:35 Luke
28:38 12 and verse
28:41 51 our Lord says to his disciples
28:46 suppose ye that I am come to give peace on
28:52 Earth I tell you
28:55 no but rather division from henceforth
28:58 there shall be five in one house divided
29:00 three against two and two against three
29:02 and he spells it out in verse
29:06 53 why because they did not know the
29:10 time look at verse 56 speaking to the
29:12 religious leaders you Hypocrites you can
29:15 discern the face of the sky and of the
29:17 Earth but how is it that you do not
29:20 discern this time they didn't know it
29:23 was the time of their visitation they
29:24 didn't realize it was the time when God
29:27 was declaring peace peace on Earth do
29:30 you think I've come to bring peace on
29:34 Earth no they don't want peace well then
29:36 where is their peace turn back to Luke
29:40 chapter 19 is there peace any place look
29:43 at verse 38 blessed be the king who
29:53 heaven and glory in the highest there's
29:55 only one place where there's really
29:58 peace today in this universe and that's
30:01 in heaven you know why the lamb
30:06 died God is not at war with this
30:10 world Jesus Christ in dying has
30:14 reconciled God to man God doesn't have
30:17 to be reconciled to us he already has been
30:18 been
30:20 reconciled God hasn't turned his back on
30:23 the world and God isn't lifting his fist
30:25 against the
30:28 world God's arms are reached out in love
30:30 and peace to the world but what's the
30:32 world doing it's the world that has to be
30:34 be
30:37 reconciled that's why our message is be
30:39 ye reconciled to
30:43 God for Israel this meant
30:46 opportunity and they lost
30:49 it and the result was judgment this
30:51 happens every
30:53 day every day somewhere in the city of
30:56 Chicago the Lord Jesus comes in
30:59 meekness with salvation
31:02 he doesn't come barging in like a great
31:04 Soldier he comes
31:06 meekly with
31:09 salvation and someone says I don't want
31:11 it don't bother
31:14 me I don't want
31:18 it the next time Israel sees the Lord
31:23 Jesus he will not be riding a lowly
31:28 ass and I saw heaven open
31:32 and I saw Jesus Christ coming on a great white
31:34 white
31:37 hord and on his head many
31:41 crowns not a crown of thorns and out of
31:45 his mouth a sharp sword by which he will
31:47 judge his
31:50 enemies the next time Israel sees Jesus
31:54 Christ he'll not meekly be riding into
31:58 Jerusalem on the humble animal he will
32:00 come as a
32:04 conqueror and he will come
32:06 conquering and they shall look upon Him
32:09 whom they have pierced and he will ride
32:13 forth in judgment and that great battle
32:15 of Armageddon is going to be fought and
32:17 the word of God tells us the blood will
32:20 be up to the horse's Bridal and there
32:23 will be a great feast spread for the
32:27 vultures and the car and eating birds
32:30 when Jes Jesus Christ comes as king of
32:32 kings and Lord of
32:35 lords for Israel had met opportunity
32:37 opportunity for
32:40 peace and they rejected
32:44 it now what does it mean to us today we
32:46 call ourselves
32:49 Christians we're able to sing songs like
32:53 king of my life I Crown thee now Rejoice
32:56 the Lord is
32:59 king crown him with many crowns the lamb
33:07 throne when a choir sings the Hallelujah Chorus
33:09 Chorus
33:12 tradition calls for people to
33:15 stand and our hearts are stirred as the
33:19 choir sings King of kings and Lord of
33:21 lords that's
33:24 fine but what about our everyday
33:27 lives the one word that comes to us is
33:30 OB obligation obligation to do what make him
33:32 him
33:35 King now he is the king of
33:38 Israel he's not on David's Throne yet he
33:42 will be but he is the king of Israel and
33:45 he is the king of the
33:48 Saints he's the head of the church but
33:52 he's the king of all who bow before him
33:55 Jesus Christ tonight is Seated on a
33:58 throne he's not hanging on a cross
34:01 us he's not lying in a tomb he is Seated
34:06 on a throne far above all principality
34:09 and power and every name that is named
34:12 either in this age or in the age to come
34:16 and he reigns supremely he has put all
34:18 things under his
34:25 King now it doesn't look like he's
34:28 King you go back 20 th000 years as he
34:30 rides into Jerusalem didn't look like he
34:33 was King lots of singing lots of noise
34:35 lots of commotion but didn't look like
34:39 he was King he had no scepter he had no
34:42 Army he had no wealth he was the poorest
34:43 of the
34:45 poor but he was
34:47 King God said
34:50 so today it doesn't look like he's King
34:51 it looks like Satan is
34:54 King evil is
34:56 rampant innocent children are being
34:59 kidnapped and murdered and buried in
35:02 Shallow little
35:06 Graves crooked politicians are milking
35:10 the public there's war there's death
35:14 there's sin there's crime there's
35:18 ignorance he's king king of
35:21 what he is King wherever he's allowed to be
35:22 be
35:25 king you see our Lord when he came into
35:28 Jerusalem came a new kind of King King
35:31 you know when Solomon became king he
35:35 abandoned asses and brought in horses
35:37 the very thing Moses said should not be
35:41 done don't go down to Egypt and multiply
35:43 horses and Solomon did
35:46 it and from that time on the horse
35:48 became the great symbol of
35:51 kingship and from Solomon's time on in
35:52 the Bible you don't find a king riding
35:56 around on a donkey a donkey became a a
35:58 beast of burden
36:00 our lord Jesus could just as well have
36:03 ridden into Jerusalem on a horse why he
36:04 could have he could have had a Chariot
36:05 Run by
36:09 Angels he chose not to you know why he
36:11 was saying to that city as he says to us
36:14 tonight my kingship is not of this
36:18 world I don't need horses and
36:21 swords if my kingdom were of this world
36:22 he said to Pilot then my servants would
36:24 be out there fighting but my Kingdom's
36:26 not of this world our weapons are
36:28 different from the weapons of other
36:31 kings and our lord Jesus is saying I'm a
36:34 different kind of a king I rule through
36:38 love I rule through meekness meekness is not
36:39 not
36:42 weakness I am meek and lowly in heart I
36:45 rule through the power of my
36:49 word and so it says to me and to
36:52 you that if he is our
36:55 King and we are reigning in life the way
36:59 Romans 5:17 says we should he is ruling
37:01 over us through his
37:05 word this book the Bible is the
37:08 scepter of his
37:11 Rule and when you and I come to this
37:15 book the way he came to this book and
37:17 say father what is it you want me to
37:20 do that's how he
37:23 rules there's no sense our talking about
37:25 king of my life I Crown thee now on
37:29 Sunday morning at communion service
37:31 there's no sense our singing Crown Him
37:33 With Many Crowns at the opening song of
37:35 a worship
37:37 service if day by day we don't come to
37:40 this book the way he did the whole
37:42 Gospel of Matthew is filled with this
37:45 one little word fulfilled why were you
37:47 born to fulfill the
37:50 word why did you go to Egypt to obey the
37:53 word or why' you move to Nazareth to
37:54 obey the word why' you leave Nazareth
37:58 for capernium to obey the word why did
37:59 you ride into Jerusalem and walk
38:01 straight into the hands of
38:03 arrest and
38:07 crucifixion to obey the word you mean
38:10 your kingship is a kingship of obedience
38:13 yes how do you rule over my life through
38:17 the word then as I obey the word you're
38:19 my king
38:23 yes that's simple isn't it we make it so
38:25 complicated but it's so very simple as
38:28 we read the word of God we reign with
38:32 him as we obey it and so we honestly can
38:36 sing king of my life I Crown thee now
38:38 thine shall the glory
38:41 be you see when a Christian disobeys the
38:47 God Jesus Christ ceases to be king in his
38:48 his
38:51 life and when Jesus Christ ceases to be
38:53 king there's no
38:55 peace because his kingdom is a kingdom
38:58 of Peace when Jesus Jesus Christ ceases
39:00 to be king there's no joy for the
39:02 kingdom of God is Not meat and drink but
39:05 righteousness and joy and peace through
39:06 the Holy
39:09 Ghost but when Jesus Christ is King
39:13 there's peace when Jesus Christ is King
39:16 there's joy when Jesus Christ is King
39:19 there's fulfillment and it's the most
39:21 beautiful thing in the world you may be
39:23 walking right into something you don't
39:25 understand but you're doing it because
39:27 God told you to do it it looks like it's
39:29 failure like it looked at his was
39:32 failure but it
39:35 isn't never be afraid of obeying the
39:41 word of God this word is the word of the
39:45 king the tragedy is most of the world is
39:48 saying we will not have this man to
39:51 Reign Over Us behold your king we have
39:57 Caesar I'm sure there's some somebody
39:59 here tonight who's never bowed to Jesus
40:03 Christ and acknowledged him as God and
40:05 savior you ought to do that
40:07 tonight and there may be some Christians
40:09 here tonight who have to confess in their
40:15 hearts my king does not rule in my life
40:16 I don't even listen to his
40:20 word his scepter doesn't rule over me
40:22 because I don't even know what his word
40:24 says and that's too
40:26 bad what a beautiful thing it is just to
40:30 be submitted to him what a beautiful
40:33 thing it is just to let him reign in
40:35 your life through the
40:38 word and let him be
40:40 king you see he's King over all the
40:43 universe he keeps it going pretty
40:46 well if he were King over your life
40:48 don't you think he'd keep it going the
40:49 way it ought
40:53 to our Lord's entry into Jerusalem
40:58 meant obedience that it might be fulf
41:01 filled it meant opportunity God's offer of
41:02 of
41:07 peace and to us it means
41:10 obligation bowing before him and
41:21 king gracious father the hardest thing
41:24 for us to do is to surrender our
41:26 Wills we're glad to have our minds
41:28 filled fill with your
41:31 truth we're glad to have our hearts
41:34 filled with your love but it's so hard
41:36 for us to surrender our
41:40 Wills that you might control all of
41:43 us we don't want to be Rebels we want to
41:47 be submissive citizens of the Kingdom of
41:49 Heaven we're not afraid of your
41:53 kingship for you reign in righteousness
41:55 and love and your
41:58 throne is a throne of Glory
42:01 Glory it may be oh father that you call
42:04 upon us to do some hard
42:07 thing help us to do
42:10 it help us also to be willing to do the easy
42:15 things I pray father for any here
42:18 tonight who need to be
42:21 saved who have really never trusted
42:22 Christ in their hearts that tonight they
42:24 might do
42:27 so I pray for that believer who
42:29 struggling and fighting and wrestling
42:31 Lord may he surrender
42:35 tonight and just say Lord have your
42:38 way be king in our
42:43 lives rule supremely
