0:01 monos make some of the best hard-sided
0:04 carry-ons and dare I say Luggage in
0:06 General on the market recently I gave a
0:08 thorough review of seven of the top
0:10 hard-sided carryon luggage Brands out
0:12 there and the winner by far was the
0:14 monos carryon since making that video
0:16 I've gotten tons of questions from you
0:18 guys about the different carry-on
0:20 options monos offers because there's a
0:22 lot and it's kind of confusing so I
0:25 wanted to make this video to compare and
0:28 explain the differences between all six
0:35 hey guys Nick here from away together in
0:36 this video I'm going to give an in-depth
0:38 overview of all of mono's carryon
0:40 options I'll talk about the differences
0:42 between each of them pack them so you
0:44 can see the capacity differences and
0:46 give you some tips on which option might
0:48 be right for you and depending on the
0:49 timing of this video there could be some
0:51 great sales going on so make sure you
0:53 check out the description below for
0:55 links to any deals let's dive in now
0:57 before I show you each individual bag
0:59 let me give you a refresher of why I
1:01 think mono bags are great and honestly
1:03 why my wife Ally and I chose monos
1:06 carons as our main luggage for 6 months
1:09 of full-time travel monos bags feature a
1:10 durable and weather resistant
1:13 polycarbonate shell which is functional
1:15 aesthetic and keeps your clothes dry in
1:17 pouring rain when it comes to Rolling
1:20 these bags on a flat surface the 360°
1:22 spinner wheels are quite possibly the
1:24 quietest I've ever heard and from a
1:26 durability standpoint even through about
1:29 4 months on cobblestones in Europe they
1:31 held up with without issue a highlight
1:33 of this bag for me is the telescoping
1:35 handle which has two things I really
1:38 like first the button is on the UND side
1:40 which is more ergonomic and secondly the
1:43 tubing is set at 45° angles which
1:45 eliminates that side to side handle
1:47 shake you often encounter with
1:49 telescoping handles that handle is also
1:51 well-sized for sliding your personal
1:53 item bag over now the proportions of
1:56 this bag are very balanced which makes
1:58 for Easy carry and internally there's
2:01 all sorts of great features and Extras
2:02 like a compression pad leather
2:05 compression straps and great internal
2:07 pockets for organization and
2:09 compartmentalization the company as a
2:11 whole seems to have a high commitment to
2:14 Quality and their bags have undergone
2:16 serious testing in R&D like they put
2:19 these bags through a battery of like 40
2:22 quality tests they look good feel good
2:25 and they work very well okay everything
2:27 I just said applies to every bag I'm
2:30 going to show you today now let's into
2:32 the different bags okay so monos has six
2:34 different carry-ons and maybe it's
2:37 because of the naming maybe it's just me
2:39 but I think it can be slightly confusing
2:41 which one is which and to understand how
2:43 they're actually different and which one
2:46 might be right for you so to make this
2:48 simple I'm going to segment this review
2:50 in two ways to hopefully make things
2:51 less confusing first we'll talk about
2:54 size and then we'll talk about type each
2:56 mono's carryon is offered in two
3:00 different sizes carryon and carryon Plus
3:03 the carry-on size measures at the
3:05 average carryon size allowance for most
3:08 airlines in the world 22 in by 14in by 9
3:11 in this range of course varies by airlin
3:12 so do your research before your trip
3:15 it's about a 40 L internal capacity and
3:20 it weighs around 7 lb mono says this
3:22 carry-on size is designed for trips
3:25 ranging from 2 to 5 days in length
3:27 packing this bag I was able to fit
3:29 everything I would need for about 7 days
3:32 a week's worth of tops socks and undies
3:35 workout gear second pair of pants
3:37 toiletries running shoes and a jacket
3:40 adding about 8 L of internal capacity
3:43 the carry-on plus measures in at 23 in x
3:46 15 in x 9 1/2 in and it'll fit in the
3:49 luggage sizers of many domestic US
3:52 Airlines it's still just barely over 7
3:54 lb and mono says this bag is designed
3:57 for trips ranging from 3 to 7 Days in
4:00 length now this bag is actually the one
4:01 Ally and I traveled for 6 months with
4:04 throughout Europe and Asia we took over
4:07 33 flights with these bags and even
4:09 though they were definitely oversized
4:11 and no question overweight for most
4:13 international flights we only had to
4:16 check them like twice your mileage may
4:18 vary and I'm not encouraging you to do
4:20 that necessarily but we took that extra
4:22 little bit of space and used it to pack
4:25 for multiple seasons and climates for
4:28 half a year of full-time travel now
4:30 knowing what I know now and now that
4:33 apparently YouTube thinks I'm a luggage
4:35 reviewer if I had to pack for that trip
4:38 again I would make it work with just a
4:41 carryon but I can comfortably vouch for
4:43 the carryon plus and I would say in the
4:45 end think about the length of your trip
4:48 and if the extra stuff you need is worth
4:50 potentially having to check your bag the
4:52 carryon is a safer bet for international
4:54 travel but I think you could probably
4:56 make it work with either one okay those
4:58 are the two sizes now let's move on to
5:00 the different types of bag there are
5:03 three types of mono carry-ons classic
5:06 Pro and hybrid the classic series is the
5:07 award-winning series that put them on
5:09 the map and these are the ones that I
5:11 was just showing you they feature the
5:13 durable polycarbonate amazing reverse
5:16 coil YKK zippers built-in TSA approved
5:18 lock the handle I was showing you all
5:20 the built-in organization excellent
5:23 quality durable minimalist luggage that
5:26 looks great and just works I'm a big fan
5:27 now like I explained it comes in two
5:29 sizes here's what those look like side
5:32 by side in the classic series the second
5:36 type is the Pro Series the mono carry-on
5:38 pro has everything I just mentioned but
5:40 it also features a built-in front
5:42 compartment for easy access to travel
5:44 Essentials like your laptop it fits up
5:47 to a 16inch laptop and has several other
5:49 dividers and mesh pockets for
5:51 organization of items like cables and
5:52 snacks and other things that you may
5:54 want quick access to on a long haul
5:56 flight this is where I'd keep things
5:58 like my eye mask my light jacket my
6:00 headphones stuff like that hey if you're
6:01 getting value out of this video I would
6:03 love it if you would hit that like
6:05 button so YouTube will know to suggest
6:07 it to other Travelers like you thank you
6:09 one thing I really like about the pro is
6:10 that the pocket is made of the same
6:12 Aerospace polycarbonate that the rest of
6:14 the case is made of I've seen a lot of
6:17 cases use some other material and I like
6:19 that this one is just the same the YKK
6:21 zippers also have a spot for you to put
6:24 a lock on that front pocket if desired
6:26 now the pocket eats at least a couple
6:28 liters of the internal capacity so when
6:30 packing this bag you may have to
6:33 sacrifice a little bit to accommodate
6:35 obviously this bag is great for business
6:37 Travelers or for someone who just wants
6:39 to have their laptop with them the third
6:41 type of carryon offered by monos is the
6:44 hybrid series metal luggage is really
6:47 cool but it's also really expensive and
6:50 pretty heavy mono's hybrid luggage
6:51 series addresses both of those two
6:54 problems offering the look and added
6:55 durability of aluminum luggage without
6:58 the added heft or Price Tag the hybrid
7:00 series combines a metallic finished
7:02 polycarbonate shell with anodized
7:04 aluminum Corner guards to make a
7:07 virtually unbreakable case it includes
7:09 all the same great mono features with
7:11 the handle and the wheels but with an
7:14 awesome theft deterrent upgrade no
7:17 zipper the frame is aluminum securely
7:20 riveted to the polycarbonate shell and
7:22 when you latch the two TSA combo lock
7:24 shut it's a completely airtight seal and
7:27 these bags are gorgeous I've used an
7:29 aluminum bag by another company before I
7:32 liked it but the problem was it's so
7:34 heavy this hybrid carryon is nowhere
7:37 near as heavy as that it's a really
7:38 really cool option okay three types of
7:41 bags classic Pro and hybrid and they
7:43 each come in two sizes carryon and
7:46 carryon plus so which one of these six
7:48 is right for you well a few things you
7:52 want to consider first function the
7:53 easiest question to answer is do you
7:55 want a pocket for your laptop or for
7:57 other things that you'd like quick
8:00 access to if the answer is yes yes then
8:02 I would go toward the pro series if you
8:04 want an awesome durable piece of
8:06 polycarbonate luggage with all the
8:07 amazing things I already mentioned but
8:09 you don't want a pocket I think the
8:12 classic series is great and I still use
8:14 those bags regularly if you're
8:16 interested in a zipperless theft
8:18 deterrent design with added durability
8:19 without the high price of aluminum
8:21 luggage then I would check out the
8:23 hybrid series the next thing you want to
8:25 think about is weight the benefit of the
8:28 classic carryon or classic carryon plus
8:30 is that when compared side by side with
8:33 the pro or hybrid counterparts even
8:35 though the external dimensions of these
8:37 bags are all the same the classic series
8:40 offers more packing capacity while using
8:42 less weight than those other bags I
8:44 mapped this out in a spreadsheet and on
8:47 average the Pro Series in either size is
8:50 about a pound heavier than the classic
8:52 and the hybrid is about 2 lbs heavier
8:53 make sure you consider weight when
8:54 you're making that decision the third
8:56 thing to consider is size when
8:58 considering which size to bring just
8:59 think about the typical length of your
9:01 trip how many outfits you're going to
9:03 need to bring with you and how small
9:06 your stuff packs personally my
9:07 recommendation is if you do a lot of
9:10 international travel on International
9:12 carriers and you want to carry on I
9:14 think the carry on is what you should go
9:17 for because you'll just have less hassle
9:19 if you're domestic only or you just need
9:20 this size of bag and are okay checking
9:22 if required then the carryon plus is
9:25 going to give you a little extra room
9:27 enough for an extra pair of shoes maybe
9:29 a couple of extra tops Maybe another
9:31 light jacket which size are you going
9:33 with or if you have a monos bag already
9:35 which one do you have and what do you
9:36 think of it big thanks to monos for
9:37 partnering with me to make this video I
9:40 sure hope it was of value to you and if
9:41 you're in the market for a great piece
9:43 of carryon luggage make sure to check
9:45 out the links in the description below
