0:07 so
0:08 good to see you again last week we were
0:10 talking about anxiety um do you have
0:12 your diary card yeah okay let's look at
0:15 it real quick where is it over here huh yeah
0:16 yeah
0:18 okay so
0:23 what happened yesterday anxiety is
0:25 really high give me a quick summary
0:26 anxiety is always really high but
0:28 yesterday was the worst why we were
0:31 driving uh my dad was driving and i was
0:32 in the passenger seat and we were in a
0:34 lot of traffic and that you know that
0:36 already makes me nervous i'd like to be
0:38 on time i know i don't want to be late
0:40 because then what if i get in trouble so
0:42 it's already kind of on edge and then we passed
0:43 passed
0:45 the accident that i guess was causing
0:46 off the traffic
0:48 and there were two cars and they were
0:51 like mashed together like accordions and
0:53 there was a tarp and i know that under
0:55 that tarp there was a dead body and the
0:57 car went right
1:00 by it that's scary
1:02 it's horrible
1:04 it kind of explains that number huh yeah
1:06 who wouldn't be anxious that's like a
1:08 normal thing because there's a dead body
1:11 well i'd be anxious of course and uh
1:13 it's kind of scary
1:15 to see that and what else did you think
1:17 when you saw that
1:19 who would drive when there's two cars
1:20 mashed together like accordions and a
1:22 dead body that's
1:23 that's
1:25 it's insane you have to be insane to drive
1:26 drive
1:28 and your family wants you to learn to
1:31 drive this year because you're 16.
1:33 they're insane hmm
1:35 hmm
1:37 and yet you all you you keep complaining
1:39 how you live in the middle of nowhere
1:41 and if you had a car you could like go
1:44 see friends more and get out of your
1:46 lame old town and get to go do fun
1:48 things i can't see my friends anymore if
1:50 i'm dead true
1:51 true
1:53 that's true and i won't get to see you anymore
1:54 anymore
1:56 because you're dead you know i don't
1:58 treat dead people right
2:00 remember that
2:01 all right
2:02 yeah okay
2:04 so on one hand
2:07 i know the idea of driving is completely
2:09 overwhelming and i know you're anxious
2:14 i mean i get that i have to drive
2:15 because you're right it's like the
2:16 middle of nowhere
2:18 and i can't just
2:21 like not go places but
2:23 so i'm wondering if we can bring it back
2:25 to some of those things you're talking
2:27 about to help reduce your anxiety maybe
2:29 that's one idea to help you be able to
2:31 get in the driver's seat
2:33 what do you think so
2:34 essentially you're practicing getting
2:36 the driver's seat by like doing this
2:38 treatment and getting the driver's seat
2:40 of your anxiety as opposed to being a
2:41 passenger and
2:42 you're letting your anxiety outside you
2:44 rule your life because that's what
2:46 you're doing what do you think
2:48 that was a lot of puns
2:53 jen i'm punny aren't i so
2:53 so
2:55 here's an idea
2:57 let's get on board we start treating
3:00 this anxiety we do a really really good
3:02 job at it we work hard and
3:03 and
3:06 idea driving might not be quite as scary
3:08 and let's face it being an anxious
3:10 driver increases your risk accidents
3:13 well that's helpful thanks so reducing
3:14 your anxiety is going to make you a
3:16 safer driver yeah but all these things
3:18 you keep telling me that i have to do to
3:20 be less anxious they involve like
3:23 feeling really anxious
3:25 true there's no way to like you're
3:26 supposed to just make it go away you're
3:28 not supposed to make it worse to make it
3:32 better so here's what's interesting
3:33 you're really good at being really
3:36 anxious so you'll be really good at this
3:38 and it will go away i promise you
3:40 i totally promise you that's just that's
3:43 the thing reality is you know darn well
3:46 i'm the expert here of treating anxiety
3:48 and i promise you it will get better
3:52 i know everything i know this
3:54 what do you think
3:56 i think it sounds really hard and it's
3:58 really hard oh my god it was totally
3:59 totally hard that maybe it's just
4:01 another insane thing that you have to be
4:04 more anxious to be less anxious i know
4:07 it isn't it's pretty insane isn't it
4:08 i agree
4:10 well another option
4:12 is you could just be anxious to rest
4:14 your life do they have a bus where you live
4:15 live
4:17 no you live with your parents for the
4:19 rest of your life i know i forgot so you
4:20 can live with your parents for the rest
4:22 of your life because you're too anxious
4:24 to leave town you won't be able to drive
4:26 so you could just live with your parents
4:27 be anxious all the time maybe you could
4:29 come up with some ideas on how to
4:30 maintain your anxiety the rest of your
4:32 life you won't need to learn to drive
4:34 i'm i mean your parents are fairly nice
4:36 they probably drive around um for the
4:38 rest of your life you know until they
4:41 pass away or something in the meantime
4:43 what about that so forget the whole
4:45 treatment i'm pushing you too hard why
4:47 don't we just talk about how to maintain
4:50 your anxiety you're good at it jenna is
4:52 not funny it's not meant to be funny
4:58 i
5:00 know being anxious every day is really hard
5:01 hard
5:04 so one of the options is to really become
5:05 become
5:08 good at being anxious and do okay and
5:10 learn to sit with your anxiety and
5:11 another option
5:14 is yeah getting more anxious to reduce
5:16 your anxiety
5:17 so you're saying that kind of no matter
5:19 what i choose it's going to involve
5:20 feeling anxious
5:24 yeah put your practice at it
5:25 well i mean if those are the only
5:27 options we might as well do the one
5:28 that's going to make it eventually go
5:36 all right do you want to review what
5:38 some of the treatment strategies will be
5:40 yeah i guess
