3:51 six kappa one timestamp is registering
3:53 correctly initiating playback in three
3:55 two one initiate
4:08 how is she as well she could be I
4:11 supposed we've had some good days since
4:14 we started the injections not too many
4:16 though it seems better than we could
4:17 have hoped for with most early onset
4:20 Alzheimer's patients but still not good
4:24 enough orchids are beautiful are they
4:25 from the garden
4:27 yes I was going to bring some
4:29 forget-me-nots but that seemed a little
4:30 bit too on the nose
4:33 nurse Steve let himself be amused by the
4:36 remark it wasn't so often his boss was
4:38 in a joking mood Vivian made her way
4:40 over to the bedridden patient and sat
4:43 down beside her as she stroked her hand
4:46 the woman began to come to there Steve
4:48 took the orchids from Vivian I'll go
4:57 find a vase for these oh it's you again
5:00 hello miss lane please don't be so
5:03 formal it's Nora I'm surprised you
5:06 remembered me of course I remember you Veronica
5:08 Veronica
5:10 Vivian deflated as she realized that
5:12 Nora's progress really wasn't further
5:15 along she let go of Nora's hand and
5:17 crossed the room to where a dizzying
5:19 array of medicine bottles needles and
5:22 Hospital accoutrements at locked behind
5:25 a primitive case Vivian took out her keys
5:26 keys
5:29 immediately finding the right one and
5:32 unlocked the cabinet are my sons coming
5:35 to visit me soon Vivian stopped cold in
5:37 her rummaging I know it's just me
5:39 tonight Hannah what are you looking for
5:42 oh we're just gonna give you a little
5:44 boost and see how you feel after that
5:47 I'm quite tired at the moment can it
5:49 wait until tomorrow why wait when you
5:52 could get better right now here give me
5:52 your hand
5:56 vivianne gently took Nora's arm after
5:58 quickly cleaning the area with rubbing
6:01 alcohol she injected her with the serum
6:03 she put the tools down and once again
6:07 clasp Nora's hand we're on the verge of
6:10 a breakthrough I just know it I want to
6:11 help you Nora
6:15 I really do you're so very kind to me
6:18 well you are the inspiration for my
6:20 life's work I mean my father started the
6:22 company and all but I was never really
6:25 into all this science stuff even after
6:28 he passed and left it all to me but then
6:30 I found you and and I realized you had a
6:33 purpose in life larger than yourself
6:37 I remember Nora squeezed Vivian's hand
6:39 Vivian smiled sweetly as she saw the
6:42 medication starting to take effect what
6:45 else do you remember now it let's eat
6:49 but tell me your birthday August 27th
6:54 1970 your favorite season spring my two
6:56 favorite color green
7:02 okay favorite food hot dogs hot dogs
7:06 really I used to eat them at the park
7:09 with my mother when I was a child
7:11 she would take me every Friday afternoon
7:15 so I could see the dots and always break
7:17 off a little piece of my bun and feed it
7:20 to them now that I think about it
7:23 I don't even know if I love the hot dogs
7:26 so much as I did spending time with her [Music]
7:29 [Music]
7:32 well that must have been nice what but
7:34 the time you spent with her with who
7:36 what are you talking about noir ripped
7:38 her hand away from Vivian's
7:41 I'm sorry who are you what is this place
7:44 Nora relax but Nora wouldn't she grew
7:46 increasingly erratic as she started to
7:49 slip from lucidity she frantically
7:51 tugged at the tubes at her arms
7:53 screaming as Vivian tried to calm her
7:57 down no no I don't know you get away
7:58 from me
8:01 please I'm here to help you nurse Steve
8:04 rushed in again he quickly set the vase
8:06 of what gets down and immediately tried
8:09 to restrain Nora she thrashed and kicked
8:12 knocking the vase right off the counter
8:14 Vivian grabbed a syringe and once again
8:17 injected her Nora seemed to calm down
8:19 immediately allowing herself to be put
8:26 back into bed nurse Steve cleaned up the
8:28 shattered glass setting The Naked
8:31 orchids on the counter there now how
8:35 does that feel much better I'm sorry I
8:38 don't know what just happened it's just
8:40 a symptom of your illness that's why
8:43 you're here we're trying to cure you
8:45 Nora stared for lonely out the big
8:48 Hospital window how long have I been
8:52 here quite some time but we're getting
8:54 closer I can feel it
9:00 do my sons know I'm here yes have they
9:06 visited me no why not why haven't they
9:09 come Vivian gave nurse Steve a nod and
9:13 he once again left them alone your sons
9:15 they they haven't been back since they
9:18 left you in our care they said it was
9:20 too hard to see you like this
9:24 they said that I'm sorry Nora but you
9:26 have me now and I'm going to take care
9:29 of you just like I have been I can't
9:33 believe they abandoned me their own mother
9:34 mother
9:38 yes well familial relations can be
9:41 complicated but we are humans after all
9:44 and many times we do terrible things as
9:46 a matter of self-preservation nor
9:49 marinated on that last sentence
9:54 Vivian noticed what is it nothing I
9:59 thought I know never mind it's gone do
10:00 you remember the first time you started
10:03 experiencing symptoms when your memory
10:07 really started slipping I realize that
10:09 might be a silly question to ask someone
10:11 with your affliction but I'd like to
10:12 take advantage of your state right now
10:16 while you're still with us I must have
10:19 been in my thirties shortly after the
10:22 birth of my second son I kept losing
10:26 things around the house my keys his milk
10:28 bottle when the boys were a bit older
10:30 I'd forget to take them to their
10:33 playdates or pick them up
10:35 sometimes I'd forget their names
10:38 completely the other parents stopped
10:39 trusting me with their kids and
10:41 eventually my children had no one left
10:46 to play with I felt so guilty I can imagine
10:48 imagine
10:50 did you spend a lot of time with your
10:54 father not really my father always had
10:56 someone do all the dirty dad work for
10:58 him he'd take me on the occasional trip
11:02 but was never a fun vacation usually
11:04 they just ended up being some twisted
11:06 lesson about life that he wanted to
11:07 teach me and I wasn't allowed to talk
11:09 about my feelings because he said that
11:12 for a scientist there was only room for
11:15 facts not emotions so I mostly talked to
11:17 our driver who always took me to school
11:20 my friend's house is my croquet matches
11:23 croquet father thought it was classy and
11:25 he wouldn't settle for me playing what
11:28 he referred to as peasant sports stuff
11:29 that got you dirty like softball or
11:34 soccer I did end up loving it though in
11:36 fact I I still have my first mallet
11:38 Vivian trailed off as she reveled in her
11:41 own fond memories but quickly snapped
11:44 out of it anyway what about your husband
11:45 where is he
11:48 never married both of the boys fathers
11:51 asked but I was never interested in a
11:53 long-term commitment not with them at
11:56 least the only people I wanted to spend
11:58 the rest of my life with were my kids
12:01 after they were born they were the only
12:05 things in this world I truly cared for
12:07 Vivian approached the window overlooking
12:10 the rest of the center various office
12:12 lights were still lit the most had gone
12:15 dark for the night that's so nice to
12:18 hear Nora I'm glad you were able to have
12:20 them in your life as long as you did
12:25 they were very lucky who was Vivian saya
12:27 does she realize she lost her again
12:31 nurse Steve who's that what are you
12:34 talking about what is all this okay just
12:37 calm down we're gonna get you all no no
12:40 get your hands off me Nora sprung from
12:43 the bed eyeing a shard of glass on the
12:45 nurse Steve had missed during his
12:48 cleaner she quickly grabbed it and swing
12:51 it around wildly Vivian tried to subdue
12:56 her the nor / Vivian pressed her hand
12:58 against her cheek her fingertips were
13:01 sprinkled with blood Nora took the
13:04 diversion as a moment to escape she
13:06 quickly swung the door and ran out
13:10 Vivian immediately gave chase no nurse
13:12 Steve quickly caught up with the
13:15 panicked Vivian what happened she
13:17 attacked me why doesn't the serum work
13:19 as well on her as it does with the
13:21 others I'm not sure maybe there's an
13:23 issue with the transmitter don't overdo
13:25 it but Vivian never liked being told
13:29 what to do where were you
13:31 I'm sorry the courier came for his
13:33 pickup and never mind we have to get her
13:35 before she hurts herself or someone else
13:37 you take the West Wing I'll take the
13:38 East Wing got it
13:41 the two split up as they searched for
13:44 where Nora could be Vivian headed to the
13:47 empty cafeteria she hit the light switch
13:49 the harsh fluorescent lights flickering
13:54 as they warmed up Nora are you in here
13:56 Vivian scanned the room but there was no
13:57 sign of her
14:00 suddenly the sound of distant scurrying
14:02 footsteps emitted from the
14:04 vivianne immediately turned and ran
14:06 toward the sound but when she re-entered
14:09 the hallway it was completely silent
14:11 except for some faint whispering she
14:14 could hear Nora please let me help you
14:17 Vivian followed the whispers which led
14:19 her to a woman's bathroom the pristine
14:21 whiteness of the bright walls nearly
14:23 blinded her as she entered from the
14:26 darkened hallway a row of stalls with
14:29 closed doors lay before her the
14:31 whispering was still faint but clearly
14:34 coming from this room
14:37 Vivian peeked underneath that saw no
14:42 feet she checked the first stall empty
14:47 she checked the second nothing she
14:58 [Music] relieved
14:59 relieved
15:03 Vivian slowly pushed the stall door she
15:05 could see part of Nora's frame crouched
15:07 on the toilet as she opened it okay [Music]
15:09 [Music]
15:11 suddenly Nora lunged at Vivian's
15:14 knocking her backwards in escaping once again
15:14 again
15:17 Vivian caught herself on a nearby sink
15:21 grabbing desperately right Vivian
15:23 collected herself and once again made
15:26 her way after Nora as she ran down
15:28 another hallway she spotted something on
15:32 the floor drops of blood Nora
15:34 Vivian followed the drops until she came
15:37 across a bloody - it seemed as though
15:39 Nora had succeeded in ripping out her IV
15:42 the remnants led her to a staircase that
15:44 had access all the way to the roof
15:47 vivianne quickly ran up the stairs and
15:49 burst through the doors Nora are you up
15:54 here Vivian could hear the sound of
15:56 crying as she made her way across the
15:59 roof she followed it until she found a
16:02 profoundly confused and upset Nora
16:06 crouching behind an exhaust pipe hi
16:12 oh hello Nora tried her tears and stood
16:16 up before Vivian could you help me I'm
16:21 so lost course but first
16:24 Vivian grabbed Nora's arm this time a
16:28 little less gently and injected her once
16:32 more oh that hurts it's okay
16:35 just give it a second Nora blinked hard
16:38 as she observed her surroundings again
16:43 seemingly lucid well this is quite
16:48 embarrassing how did I get all the way
16:54 up here Nora gently copped Vivian's face
16:56 wiping some of the blood away with her
16:59 thumb what happened to you dear are you
17:00 hurt it's fine
17:04 don't worry about it did I do that to you
17:04 you
17:07 Vivian moved away from Nora suddenly
17:08 uncomfortable with her physical touch
17:13 please let me help clean you know it's
17:16 really ok come now don't be silly look
17:21 at all that blood nor reached for Vivian
17:22 again but this time
17:24 Vivian grabbed her hands and shoved her
17:31 away I said no I'm sorry I'm so stop
17:32 saying you're sorry you don't even know
17:35 what you're apologizing for I do I do
17:39 know I hurt you I'm sorry I can barely
17:40 feel it
17:42 Nora shook her head as a flood of
17:45 thoughts entered her brain she grabbed
17:48 her skull like it was physically causing
17:52 her pain I've heard so many people
17:55 I keep hurting people it's all I seem to
18:00 do my boys my parents now you and I
18:03 can't even remember everyone else is
18:06 stuck with the pain I caused and I can't
18:09 even remember you're remembering now
18:13 there's so much it's happening so fast
18:17 Nora I need you to try really hard okay
18:20 think before you became sick before your
18:22 sons were born what else do you remember
18:26 high school your teenage years it's the
18:27 only time in your life we've never
18:29 spoken about and I need to know what you
18:31 remember from then anything that stands
18:34 out please before the medication wears
18:36 off Nora thought long and hard about
18:40 what Vivian had asked her then she
18:43 caught a glimmer of specific memory
18:50 something was coming I remember going to
18:53 the movies with my boyfriend Paul
18:56 I don't remember what we saw but I know
18:59 that he took me for a milkshake after
19:07 and then we did it in his car my first
19:11 time and then Nora placed her hand on
19:13 her stomach her eyes welling up with
19:20 tears I got pregnant keep going
19:28 Paul dumped me shortly after oh I was so
19:36 heartbroken and the baby I had it and
19:42 what do you remember about her she nor
19:48 his face twisted into a scowl she was a
19:53 hideous little thing I couldn't even
19:59 believe she was mine so alien like so
20:04 needy I was 17 and the only thing I knew
20:07 was that I didn't want her but my
20:10 parents made me keep her
20:13 Vivian winced as the words made their
20:16 way into her ears they helped me raise
20:19 her for a time telling everyone she was
20:24 my accidental sister and all she did was
20:32 cry and cry and cry I couldn't take it
20:34 they resented me for being so
20:37 irresponsible and in turn
20:49 hated her when I was 20 my parents made
20:52 me move out with the baby but I couldn't
20:54 take care of her in my own I just
20:59 couldn't do it and I didn't want to what
21:05 did you do with her there was a church a
21:09 few miles out I was going to leave her
21:11 there but I didn't want to risk them
21:14 seeing me so I left her in the nearby
21:19 woods on an old tree stump just like that
21:19 that
21:24 I knew they'd find her eventually
21:28 lord knows she cried loud enough but I
21:32 had to leave I just had to and I was
21:35 finally able to close that chapter and
21:39 move on with my life when I was finally
21:42 ready to have children again I did two
21:44 beautiful boys
21:47 Vivian stomped her foot her rage no
21:49 longer able to be contained
21:54 what nothing to do with you what your
21:57 son's no man did you surely you remember
22:06 vivianne slapped herself hard across the
22:11 face you give up one child who did love
22:13 you who did want you only to be cast
22:15 aside by your other children who
22:17 couldn't give two shits
22:21 no that's boy but it is that baby's
22:24 father was wealthy yes but money can't
22:27 replace love and there was no love to be
22:30 had in that house do you want to know
22:31 what else happened to that child
22:35 no her selling the monster every chance
22:37 they got her brother constantly telling
22:40 her she didn't matter didn't belong and
22:42 her cruel sister torturing her for her
22:45 own pleasures every single day was some
22:49 new and horrible surprise Devine was
22:51 moving closer to Nora becoming more
22:53 unhinged with every step
22:56 eventually she moved into a ratty old
22:59 apartment far away from the pain only to
23:01 realize that she was finally free but
23:04 completely alone is that what you wanted
23:07 for your baby girl or did you not even
23:09 think about her once you started over
23:12 with your brand-new life I don't I don't
23:15 know I didn't know of course I didn't
23:18 know and not only didn't you know you
23:21 didn't even care you never looked for
23:23 her you never asked how she was you
23:25 never even bothered to find out if she
23:27 was alive
23:29 Nora stared at Vivian a look of horror
23:32 creeping its way onto her face well
23:35 guess what mommy I'm alive and well no
23:37 thanks to you
23:41 Vivian Nora slumped to the ground
23:44 sobbing uncontrollably [Music]
23:52 [Music]
23:57 you're right you're right I was so young
24:00 and stupid I should have never never
24:10 never what had you pain I could have
24:13 saved both of us from it
24:17 and now look where I am trapped in a
24:19 hospital being forced to remember all
24:23 the things I was lucky enough to [ __ ]
24:26 get so that's your greatest regret
24:30 having me yes
24:34 Vivian took a deep breath and glared at
24:37 her mother the silence was stagnant
24:40 between them I just want to forget you
24:45 again please no more medications no more
24:49 injections please just let me forget [Music]
24:51 [Music]
24:55 there's a simple way to do that a way
24:57 you can erase all the memories all the
25:01 pain I'll do anything
25:04 Vivian stared fiercely at the woman who
25:06 was desperate to release herself from
25:09 all of her painful memories her heart
25:13 breaks her family falling apart her only
25:16 daughter's existence go onto the ledge
25:19 Nora climbed up the breeze blowing
25:22 through her hospital gown she looked
25:25 down below at the courtyard concrete you
25:31 really want to forget it all fine then
25:39 this is goodbye mother no joke with that
25:42 final command Nora let herself fall from
25:49 the ledge Vivian walked to the ledge and
25:52 peered over below she could see the
25:54 bloody outline of her dying mother
25:57 convulsing on the ground below nurse
26:00 Steve approached breathlessly from
26:02 behind viewing the same scene [Music]
26:04 [Music]
26:08 God had nothing to do with this I guess
26:09 I should do have to take care of that
26:11 dispose of it properly
26:14 nurse Steve nodded and turned to leave
26:19 but stopped Vivian are you okay
26:22 Vivian was not okay but it was not in
26:24 her character to ever admit that
26:27 Vivian's adoptive father had drilled
26:30 that into her head from a very very
26:34 early age only room for facts not emotions
26:35 emotions
26:39 nothing Steve now dispose of it right
26:42 right of of course I'll I'll go
26:46 get on that situation right now Vivian
26:49 looked around making sure she was alone
26:52 then as she stared down at her mother's
26:56 nearly lifeless body once more a tear
27:00 escaped from her eye and multiple
27:04 stories below as Nora Lang Vivian's
27:06 biological mother took her very last
27:09 breath Vivian finally let a tear fall
27:22 for her I can't believe it that this
27:23 drug is being tested as an Alzheimer's
27:26 treatment yes quite fascinating I mean
27:28 about Vivian I can't imagine how
27:29 difficult that must have been to hear
27:31 from her own mother and then to tell her
27:34 to jump you know Vivian doesn't put too
27:36 much stock in her relationships besides
27:38 would you have done the same what no of
27:39 course not
27:41 I could never tell someone to kill
27:43 themselves especially not my own mother
27:45 even if that person was the root of all
27:47 your pain and suffering that death
27:49 wouldn't erase any of that how do you
27:51 know you can't possibly come to that
27:53 conclusion without first testing the
27:55 hypothesis every scientist knows that I
27:59 guess and that's the problem another
28:01 person potentially dosed with the same
28:03 drug another project Cyclops that
28:04 actually ended when that individual
28:07 passed away now that's an observation I
28:09 can agree with presuming this is the
28:11 same drug which again we're not 100%
28:15 sure we probably shouldn't discuss what
28:18 we just saw with with anyone right I
28:20 would definitely agree with that misery
