0:05 all right so the world of high-end noise
0:07 cancelling headphones has kind of
0:09 settled over the last few years you know
0:11 you've got the Sony's you've got the
0:14 Bose there's the airpods Max and then
0:17 kind of the rest but now player four has
0:20 entered the game Sonos so you've
0:21 probably heard of Sonos they've been
0:24 making these premium Soundbars for years
0:26 that's been their most popular product
0:27 and everyone just kind of figured they
0:29 would eventually get into headphones it
0:31 was just a matter of when and how much
0:33 cuz that's the thing about Sonos
0:36 speakers is they are premium they're
0:38 very expensive and so now here it's
0:39 obviously interesting enough that it's a
0:42 new player but they are also now expensive
0:44 expensive
0:47 $450 Bluetooth noise cancelling
0:49 headphones so at that price the question
0:52 is are they actually worth getting so
0:54 I've been using the Sonos Ace headphones
0:56 for more than a month now I've edited
0:58 videos with them I've listened to a lot
1:00 of music I've gone on flights and turns
1:02 out they're really solid and they do
1:04 have some really nice features but there
1:06 are also definitely some downsides and
1:08 there's really only a small group of
1:10 people that I would actually recommend
1:11 these two but let me just start with the
1:13 basics right so these are the headphones
1:14 they are mostly made of plastic and that
1:16 is totally normal in this price range
1:17 because that makes them super
1:20 lightweight and comfortable and that is
1:23 one of these headphones best assets for
1:24 sure so they're really flexible for
1:26 different head sizes and shapes and the
1:28 top headband is really soft the ear cups
1:30 are also removable and they snap on and
1:32 off with magnets and they're also really
1:34 soft so ideally you can replace these
1:36 ear cups when they get old and by the
1:37 way I like that they have a different
1:39 color mesh for the right and left Sid so
1:40 you can tell at a glance which one is
1:42 which also same with the black colored
1:43 version that's kind of a neat touch the
1:45 shape of these cups is normal and
1:48 they're so soft but I feel like the one
1:49 thing I want is for these ear cups to be
1:51 a bit more deep I mean when they are on
1:53 my ears they're fine but they're just a
1:55 little bit shallow and my ears like
1:56 touching the inside of it so that's
1:58 maybe my only fit complaint but
2:00 everything else about the way they like
2:01 wear is great I think aesthetically they
2:04 look like a combo between the Sony's and
2:05 the Microsoft Surface headphones I don't
2:07 know if you remember those but they had
2:09 that matte off-white look and then with
2:11 the frictionless stainless steel bands
2:13 that airpods Max have that kind of
2:15 completes the look overall pretty simple
2:17 though not too much branding not too
2:19 many crazy accent Pieces Just good
2:21 looking and Good Feeling headphones here
2:23 is where I start to have complaints
2:25 though so this is the case that it comes
2:28 with pretty simple design it's like this
2:30 recycled material and it's got a
2:32 different color inside versus outside
2:37 but this zipper right here is so annoy
2:39 it's just maybe nitpicking but how often
2:41 it gets snagged on the way opening or
2:44 closing it is very annoying so I wish it
2:46 was either thicker or just smoother and
2:49 then the headphones do not fold down at
2:51 all to fit inside and matter of fact if
2:53 you have them extended they still don't
2:55 fit inside the case so you have to fully
2:57 collapse them and then just place them
2:58 in there so they don't they don't really
3:00 pack down very small unfort fortunately
3:01 there is also a little floating pouch
3:03 thing here in the middle of the case for
3:05 cables that like magnetizes in which is
3:07 pretty clever aside from that though for
3:09 as premium as these headphones are I
3:11 just feel like the case doesn't really
3:13 match up for
3:15 $450 I just got to be honest I wish that
3:17 the case was better but then buttons
3:20 good to see real buttons so on the left
3:22 ear cup there's just one button that's a
3:25 real power button so you hold that for 3
3:27 seconds to turn it on or off or hold 7
3:29 Seconds to pair then on the right side
3:31 is a button and a switch so the button
3:33 is basically to switch between noise
3:35 cancellation and transparency mode then
3:37 up top is this kind of a rocker switch
3:40 slash button it's called the content key
3:41 because it controls all your media but
3:43 you slide it up or down to change volume
3:46 and then you can press to play pause or
3:47 double press to go forward so basically
3:49 that rocker controls everything I think
3:51 in general Sonos got most of the
3:53 fundamentals right with these headphones
3:55 as far as design goes thankfully like
3:57 nothing critically wrong with them
3:58 they're pretty minimal it's got the
4:00 smooth stepless adjustment these are
4:02 some of the lightest softest especially
4:04 uh headphones I've ever worn I think
4:06 with deeper ear cups they're probably an
4:08 A+ they have a rock solid 40 plus hour
4:11 battery life they have multi-point
4:12 Bluetooth connectivity so you can
4:13 connect them to two different Bluetooth
4:16 devices at once so we might as well just
4:18 get right into how they sound so these
4:20 are closed back active noise
4:22 cancellation OV ear headphones they have
4:24 custom 40mm drivers and eight
4:26 microphones positioned all the way
4:28 around for noise cancellation and the
4:29 pass through mode I do think these
4:31 headphones sound good now they are not
4:33 mind-blowing World beating or anything
4:35 crazy like that they are still
4:37 constrained by physics and Bluetooth
4:39 codex but they have a nice full sound
4:41 with great bass all the way through
4:42 strong Highs at first I thought they
4:44 sounded a little muddier than airpods
4:46 Max but you can brighten them right up
4:48 by jumping in the EQ settings in the
4:51 extremely neutered Sonos app and that's
4:52 where you can mess with just a couple
4:54 other very basic things like onhe head
4:57 detection and head tracking surround
5:00 sound but like yeah look the EQ is liter
5:02 just a Bas slider and a trouble slider
5:04 so I hope they add to this at some point
5:06 but at least you can change that the
5:07 most impressive thing really about their
5:09 sound I think is the noise cancellation
5:11 it is really really good it basically
5:14 erases any sort of white noise air
5:16 conditioning droning road noise like
5:19 they are incredible for airplanes and
5:21 they can absorb even some of the more
5:23 sudden noise changes as well I think
5:26 this is A+ noise cancellation in my book
5:28 and then to my surprise they also have
5:29 some of the best transparency mod I've
5:32 heard in anything that's not airpods
5:33 really natural sounding for having
5:35 regular conversations with your
5:36 headphones on you can hear the
5:38 environment around you they call it
5:40 aware mode this is also great so I've
5:41 been saying all these nice things they
5:43 clearly they sound good they look good
5:45 they have all these good features good
5:47 noise cancellation they're very
5:49 comfortable so what's with the title so
5:52 here's the thing the reason everyone was
5:55 waiting for Sonos to do headphones is
5:57 because Sonos already makes these
6:00 awesome speakers they have a reputation
6:01 with these Internet connected speaker
6:04 systems that are a hit like I have a
6:07 Sonos Arc at home and it sounds great
6:09 it's awesome I think aside from what
6:11 they did to the app they're fantastic
6:13 you connect to various music/ media
6:15 sources and you can stream them to the
6:18 speaker systems and high quality you can
6:19 also obviously connect them to your TV
6:21 they're great and so naturally I think
6:22 we'd all like to have a new pair of
6:25 Sonos headphones that can join right in
6:27 the ecosystem and connect in the Sonos
6:30 app to be another one of our of Sonos
6:32 speakers and have all the same
6:35 functionality Unfortunately they can't
6:39 these are not Wi-Fi connected headphones
6:40 they're just regular they're Bluetooth
6:43 headphones so what you can do is when
6:46 you're home you can connect the
6:48 headphones straight to the speakers and
6:51 then you can quickly swap between the
6:53 ark speaker and the headphones with a
6:55 single tap of the content button so when
6:56 they're connected you can swap back and
6:58 forth between watching TV with the
7:00 speakers and with the headphones pretty
7:02 seamlessly but the headphones themselves
7:04 are not actually Wi-Fi enabled like
7:06 they're not going to pull anything from
7:08 any streaming services directly to the
7:11 headphones like some Sonos speaker
7:14 systems might so that's the bummer and
7:16 honestly it's I think it's probably a
7:18 battery issue why they aren't able to
7:20 pull it off on these and this all might
7:22 not even be a big deal to almost anyone
7:23 because basically no other pair of
7:26 headphones has that ability yet anyway
7:32 but for a new 450 $50 pair of Sonos
7:34 headphones kind of thought maybe they'd
7:37 be able to pull it off but they didn't
7:39 which means they kind of to me now feel
7:42 like almost an overpriced version of the
7:44 Sony's that already exist and I'm
7:45 talking about the marvs not even the
7:47 mark 5S which kind of felt like almost a
7:49 little bit of a pointless upgrade now I
7:50 actually recently made an upgrade that I
7:52 was curious if it would actually make a
7:54 noticeable difference to me or not I've
7:56 been using the eight sleep pod 3 for a
7:58 couple years now and I recently upgraded
8:00 to the Pod 4
8:01 and turns out it's actually pretty sick
8:03 so the eight sleep it was already really
8:04 good at sleep tracking with all the
8:05 sensors and the heart rate monitors and
8:07 all that fun stuff but they' redesign
8:09 the tech inside it making it more
8:11 comfortable it's also now twice as
8:14 powerful for cooling and 40% quieter but
8:16 maybe my favorite update is there's a
8:18 little tap area on the side so you can
8:20 silence or snooze the vibration alarm
8:22 just by reaching over and tapping right
8:24 here which is pretty sick but the extra
8:25 cooling I think is actually making a
8:27 difference to me I think a normal good
8:28 night of sleep for me I'm getting like
8:31 high 80 or low 90s as a sleep score
8:33 which I thought was pretty great and
8:35 then lately I've gotten a couple
8:38 hundreds which I'd never used to get but
8:40 now I feel like I'm getting a 100 like
8:42 once a week which is unheard of for me
8:44 they said the tech behind the Pod 4 has
8:45 been clinically validated to increase
8:48 sleep time by up to an hour every night
8:50 and increase deep sleep by up to 2 and
8:52 1/2 hours a month and reduce wakeup Time
8:54 by 3 hours a month all these are little
8:56 gains that really just add up and unlike
8:58 the Sonos app the eight sleep app is
9:00 really good and consistent ly is getting
9:01 better over time and then also with the
9:04 Pod 4 ultra they made this insane
9:06 adjustable base that can go underneath
9:08 your mattress so it can actually adjust
9:10 it to different sleeping positions and
9:12 then you can turn on automatic snore
9:14 detection so if it detects snoring it
9:16 like gently lifts your head up a few
9:17 degrees to stop it for you so if you
9:19 want to check one out I'll leave a link
9:20 below it's 8sleep.com
9:24 MKBHD and then if you use code MKBHD you
9:27 get $350 off a pod 4 ultra or 200 bucks
9:30 off a pod 4 you're welcome so at the end
9:31 of the day let's say you're in the
9:32 market for some high-end noise
9:35 cancelling headphones right obviously
9:37 there are some choices these feel like
9:39 they're a direct competitor to airpods
9:42 Max most people who have an iPhone and
9:43 iPad or a Mac and a bunch of stuff in
9:45 the ecosystem who still want that
9:48 seamless experience will probably still
9:49 go with airpods Max even though they're
9:52 more expensive but what I will say is
9:55 those are heavier and I probably
9:56 wouldn't buy those right now I think
9:58 there's got to be a new version of those
10:00 like right around the corner just just
10:01 as a PSA but then there's the Bose and
10:03 the Sony's that I mentioned earlier
10:06 which are essentially 90% of the same
10:08 headphones that have a lot of the same
10:10 benefits but $1 to $200 cheaper so the
10:13 only way that I feel like I can shoehorn
10:15 in recommending this pair of Sonos
10:19 headphones is I guess one if you just
10:20 really love the brand and you know got
10:23 the money and you don't care fine two is
10:26 if you want the best transparency mode
10:27 that isn't
10:31 airpods that's these but then three is
10:35 if you switch between watching TV with
10:38 your speakers and your headphones
10:40 particularly often like I'm not
10:42 personally that person but the one use
10:44 case I feel like I hear all the time is
10:45 like people who live together but one of
10:48 them wants to watch TV while the other
10:50 doesn't wake up or doesn't hear or
10:52 something like that so if you're that
10:54 person and you already have or about to
10:59 get the Sonos Arc Soundbar then in that
11:03 case these are a great pair with that
11:04 just because of that quick seamless
11:06 switch feature but that's kind of it
11:08 otherwise they're just a normal solid
11:09 pair of bluetooth headphones so I'll
11:10 leave links to all my other headphone
