0:46 how to be more disciplined from so many
0:48 of you i heard
0:50 ashley i want to wake up early but i
0:52 don't know how to wake up early i keep
0:56 sleeping until 8 a.m actually i want to
0:58 develop healthy habits but i'm not
0:59 really sure how to actually i want to
1:02 get into the bible but it just feels
1:04 like every time i sit down i have no
1:06 motivation to read it and then i end up
1:08 just scrolling on my phone and looking
1:10 at social media if that is you today i'm

1:28 lean into grace you probably didn't
1:30 think that i would start with grace as
1:32 the first thing in self-discipline but
1:34 we are christians here
1:36 and the world says pick yourself up by
1:39 the bootstraps but god says lean into
1:42 grace i was getting into a habit of
1:44 sleeping in till like 8 30. it was
1:45 slowly creeping into my life so i was
1:47 like ah it's okay if i sleep in a little
1:49 bit it's okay well then it started to
1:51 become like a thing that i was doing i'm
1:52 like okay i gotta get back to my routine
1:54 of waking up at 5 30.
1:58 well then i set my alarm and planned on
2:01 waking up at 5 30 and i freaking slept
2:02 in until 8 30.
2:05 and i was so bummed i was so upset with
2:08 myself because i hate waking up late i
2:09 find that my whole day and i'm sure you
2:12 feel this too your whole day is just
2:13 like starting later and then you just
2:17 feel unorganized and yeah i was a little
2:19 upset with myself but i thought the lord
2:22 remind me like ash lean into grace like
2:24 you can start again
2:28 tomorrow so then today i set like
2:31 10 alarms y'all and i eventually woke up
2:33 but i didn't wake up at 5 30 i woke up
2:35 at 7.
2:36 so you got to pick and choose your
2:38 battles not every day you're going to
2:41 wake up at 6 00 a.m or 5 30 but just
2:43 lean into grace because it's going to be
2:46 so easy for you to beat yourself up
2:49 after you fail it's really important on
2:51 your journey of self-discipline to be
2:53 like okay lord i failed i'm not gonna
2:55 identify myself with that failure i'm
2:57 going to identify myself with your grace
2:59 i know that you don't love me because of
3:01 my performance and i know that i can
3:03 always try again tomorrow okay next
3:07 thing is to not bank on your feelings i
3:09 hear this a lot and i'm going to call it
3:12 out it's not good for us to think like
3:14 this people will say
3:16 if i don't feel like doing it i just
3:18 won't do it or if i didn't feel like it
3:21 was the right time if i didn't feel like
3:23 it if i didn't have a good feeling then
3:25 i just then i just don't do it then they
3:28 just end up not doing anything because
3:30 they never actually feel like it very
3:32 rarely do you feel like doing the things
3:34 that you need to be doing so here's what
3:37 you need to do you need to do the thing
3:40 before you feel like doing the thing
3:42 because once you do the thing you will
3:45 feel great but before you do the thing
3:47 you might not feel like doing the thing
3:50 here's an example before i wake up in
3:52 the morning as my head is is resting on
3:55 my pillow and it's that alarm is going
3:59 off do you think i feel like waking up
4:01 absolutely not
4:04 but after i get up after i am you know
4:07 drinking my coffee and it's 6 a.m and i
4:08 have a whole morning ahead of me to do
4:10 whatever i want
4:13 then i feel good something that i hear a
4:15 lot is like actually i don't always feel
4:18 like opening my bible well same
4:21 literally same there are so many days
4:23 where i am about to open my bible i'm
4:24 like i could be doing so many other
4:26 things right now
4:29 but i still flip it to my to what i'm
4:31 supposed to read that day in my devo plan
4:32 plan
4:35 and i read and even if it's hard to
4:37 focus and even if i am struggling to pay
4:41 attention after i read my bible i feel
4:42 so much more connected to the father
4:44 than if i just were to skip it because i
4:46 didn't feel like it
4:48 what about when we don't feel like
4:50 working out okay i don't there will be
4:52 days where i live i just don't even feel
4:54 like going to the gym right i don't feel
4:57 like it but then after i get that run in
4:58 i have all those endorphins i'm like man
5:00 i feel great so your feelings are not a
5:02 good indicator of what you should be
5:05 doing you need to do the thing before
5:07 you feel like doing the thing and then
5:08 you will feel better after doing the
5:10 thing number three
5:13 ask god to help you i think we forget
5:15 that god wants to help us with
5:18 self-discipline he says in 2 timothy 1 7
5:19 for i have not given you a spirit of
5:23 fear but of power love and self
5:26 discipline fam if god is the one giving
5:27 us self-discipline then we need to be
5:30 the one asking for self-discipline from him
5:31 him
5:33 we're not going to muster it up in our
5:34 own strength that's what the world tells
5:37 us that's what like self-help tells us
5:40 is you know just do better like okay
5:42 that doesn't really help when we pray
5:45 and we say lord give me the discipline
5:47 to read my bible lord give me the
5:50 discipline to wake up early and because
5:52 i know a proverbs 31 woman she wakes up
5:54 before dawn like give me that discipline
5:58 to be like a proverbs 31 woman let's ask
6:00 god for self-discipline he wants to help
6:02 us i've been doing this in my workouts
6:04 because lately i've just been in a
6:06 workout rut where i'm just not really
6:08 feeling my workouts but i will literally
6:10 go to the gym and before i even work out
6:13 i pray say lord would you give me the
6:16 discipline today to do this workout just
6:18 pray and guys i feel like the days that
6:20 i pray that prayer for some reason like
6:21 the holy spirit just gives me this
6:23 stamina where i'm able to do
6:26 my lunches and my burpees a lot easier
6:27 than if i hadn't prayed that prayer
6:29 because our self-discipline doesn't come
6:31 from ourselves it comes from the spirit
6:34 of god so pray for self-discipline
6:36 number four
6:38 do it for the you five years from now
6:41 the daily disciplines that you do today
6:43 might not look like they make a big
6:46 difference in today but five years from
6:50 now they will make a huge difference
6:52 something that i'm learning is the
6:54 compound effect which basically means
6:56 that if you do the right things every
6:58 single day like it you're getting like
7:01 one percent better each day and over
7:03 time that one percent it doesn't look
7:05 like anything in that day like that day
7:07 it was just one percent but if you do
7:09 365 days a whole year where you're
7:11 focusing on doing one percent better
7:14 each day well then boom bana bang you're
7:16 gonna have that curve and that's what we want
7:17 want so
7:18 so
7:19 focus on just
7:22 doing the disciplines for the you five
7:24 years from now not where you're at right
7:27 now number five get a habit tracker what
7:30 i've been doing is i actually have
7:32 several habit trackers which is so me
7:34 have an app called habit and i will
7:37 literally put in like five habits that i
7:39 want to work on for that season and i
7:41 will just cross them off throughout the
7:42 day they're not huge habits they're like
7:44 i want to get in a 15-minute prayer walk
7:46 every day because i find that when i
7:48 just stop in the middle of the day out
7:50 of my regular routine and i get outside
7:52 and i pray like i'm able to just
7:54 approach my day with so much more mental
7:56 clarity and i just feel more empowered
7:59 to step into my day so get a habit

8:05 below it's also going to help you start
8:08 doing healthy habits so this brings me
8:12 to set realistic goals many of you guys
8:14 are gonna turn off this video and you're
8:16 gonna go okay i'm ready to go ash like
8:19 i'm gonna just hit 20 different goals 20
8:20 different disciplines and 20 different
8:23 habits and i'm just going to go for it
8:25 what's going to happen
8:27 is just like when i woke up at literally
8:30 8 30 after setting like an ungodly
8:34 amount of alarms at 5 30 a.m i felt like poo
8:35 poo
8:38 i don't want that for you the other day
8:42 i was carrying my groceries into
8:43 the apartment
8:46 and i literally was thinking okay how
8:48 many groceries can i put on my because i
8:50 live the apartment life and so literally
8:53 with groceries you have to go up elevate
8:55 an elevator to actually get your
8:57 groceries in the in your room but i was
8:59 thinking i'm like okay how many
9:02 groceries can i get on these two arms
9:05 without having any of them fall
9:07 and i literally
9:08 was able
9:11 to get them all up the ele like all of
9:14 the elevator all my publix bags right
9:17 however it was exhausting to try to
9:19 carry all of those bags
9:22 versus if i had just tried to carry a
9:24 few bags at a time it wasn't as exhausting
9:25 exhausting
9:29 moral of the story pick like five things
9:32 that you want to grow in this season and
9:35 set realistic goals for those things
9:37 again you don't want to be having all
9:39 these bags on your two arms you don't
9:41 want to be having like 20 different
9:42 habits in your habit tracker that you
9:44 want to focus on because let me just
9:46 tell you before you even try you're
9:48 going to fail
9:50 you're going to fail if you try to
9:52 accomplish everything you cannot
9:55 accomplish anything but you can't
9:57 accomplish anything but you can't
10:00 accomplish everything so consider what
10:02 are the things that i really want to
10:04 grow in what are those things
10:06 what do i want to have more discipline
10:09 in is it waking up early is it reading
10:12 my bible is it working out and going to
10:14 the gym what is it that i actually want
10:16 to put into my life to have more
10:18 discipline in and then
10:20 put it on your habit tracker
10:24 and set realistic goals for those things
10:26 so if it is for instance waking up
10:28 earlier okay is it realistic for you to
10:30 go we've been waking up at 8 a.m like
10:32 for years
10:34 is it realistic to say okay tomorrow 5
10:37 30 a.m grind time
10:40 that's not realistic what's realistic is
10:42 for you to go okay you know what i'm
10:45 gonna wake up at 7 30 tomorrow
10:47 7 30 just make a 30 minute difference
10:48 that's already going to be that one
10:50 percent better right
10:52 then the next day go okay 30 more minutes
10:53 minutes
10:55 7 a.m
10:58 okay wow you're really making progress
11:01 eventually you make it to 5 30 and then you
11:01 you
11:03 you stick with that
11:05 and you ask the lord for self-discipline
11:06 to stick with it because that's the kind
11:08 of person that you want to be and that's
11:10 the kind of life that you want to lead
11:12 guys actually want to start reading the
11:13 bible and developing a consistent
11:15 routine and discipline of spending time
11:17 with god every day and you're so sick of
11:19 being distracted or just feeling like
11:21 you don't have a good discipline and
11:23 routine with the lord i want to invite
