0:17 prayer these words spoke Jesus and
0:21 lifted up his eyes to heaven and said
0:23 father the hour is
0:28 come glorify thy son that thy son Also
0:31 may glorify thee
0:34 as thou H has given him Power Over All
0:38 Flesh that he should give eternal life
0:40 to as many as thou Hast given
0:44 him and this is life eternal that they
0:47 might Know Thee the only true God and
0:50 Jesus Christ whom thou has
0:54 sent I have glorified thee on the earth
0:56 I have finished the work which thou
1:00 gavest me to do
1:04 and now oh Father glorify thou me with
1:07 thine own self with the glory which I
1:10 had with thee before the world
1:13 was I have manifested thy name unto the
1:16 men whom thou gavest me out of the
1:19 world thine they were and thou gavest
1:23 them to me and they have kept Thy
1:26 word now they have known that all things
1:28 whatever thou Hast given me are of
1:31 Thee for I have given unto them The
1:34 Words which thou gavest me and they have
1:38 received them and have known surely that
1:41 I came out from thee and they have
1:43 believed that thou had sent
1:47 me I pray for them I pray not for the
1:49 world but for them whom thou Hast given
1:53 me for they are thine all mine are thine
1:57 and thine are mine and I am glorified in
2:00 them and now I am no more in the world
2:04 but these are in the world and I come to
2:08 thee Holy Father keep through thine own
2:11 name Those whom thou Hast given me that
2:15 they may be one as we are while I was
2:17 with them in the world I kept them in
2:20 thy name those that thou gavest me I
2:24 have kept and none of them is lost but
2:27 the son of predition that the scripture
2:28 might be
2:32 fulfilled and now come I to thee and
2:34 these things I speak in the world that
2:37 they might have my joy fulfilled in
2:41 themselves I have given them Thy word
2:44 and the world ha hated them because they
2:46 are not of the world even as I am not of
2:49 the world I pray not that thou should
2:51 take them out of the world but that thou
2:54 should keep them from the evil
2:57 one they are not of the world even as I
3:00 am not of the World San stify them
3:03 through thy truth Thy word is
3:06 truth as thou Hast sent me into the
3:09 world even so have I also sent them into
3:13 the world and for their sakes I sanctify
3:15 myself that they also might be
3:17 Sanctified through the
3:21 truth neither pray I for these alone but
3:23 for them also Who Shall Believe on me
3:24 through their
3:27 word that they all may be one as thou
3:31 father art in me and I in thee the that
3:35 they also may be one in us that the
3:38 world may believe that thou has sent me
3:40 and the glory which thou gavest me I
3:43 have given them that they may be one
3:48 even as we are one i in them thou in me
3:51 that they may be made perfect in one and
3:53 that the world may know that thou has
3:57 sent me and H has loved them as thou has
3:59 loved me
4:03 father I will that they also whom thou
4:06 Hast given me be with me where I am that
4:10 they may behold my glory which thou has
4:13 given me for thou lovest me before the
4:14 foundation of the
4:18 world oh righteous father the world hath
4:21 not known thee but I have known thee and
4:24 these have known that thou has sent me
4:27 and I have declared unto them thy name
4:30 and will declare it that the love with
4:34 which thou Hast loved me may be in
4:39 them and I in
4:42 them may the Lord truly take this prayer
4:50 Hearts who must
4:53 confess that their greatest need is in
4:58 life I think all of us know the
5:00 importance of prayer all of us know the
5:02 power of
5:05 prayer all of us know what God does when people
5:07 people
5:10 pray and yet many of God's people have a
5:17 praying I suppose there are many excuses
5:21 we can give or maybe even some
5:24 reasons but deep down inside I think
5:27 each of us is keenly interested in
5:31 having an effective efficient meaningful prayer
5:36 life now there's several ways that we
5:38 can learn how to
5:40 pray of course we can read books about
5:43 prayer and there are many of them we can
5:46 attend prayer circles or prayer
5:49 groups but sometimes the people we're
5:51 praying with there have a greater need
5:57 them I think one of the best ways to
5:59 learn how to pray is to open the word of God
6:01 God
6:03 God and no matter where you go in your
6:05 Bible you find people who pray and
6:14 pray and the greatness of
6:17 prayer I think is the basic lesson we
6:21 need we know the effectiveness of prayer
6:24 we know the promises of prayer we know
6:26 the importance of
6:29 prayer but it may be that one reason why
6:32 we are not as effective as we ought to
6:34 be in our praying is because we don't
6:38 see prayer as a great and a wonderful
6:41 thing prayer is something that we do or
6:43 praying is something that we
6:47 say and I want us today to
6:53 catch in some measure the greatness of
6:55 prayer sometimes I've heard people say
6:59 to missionaries well I can't do much but
7:02 I canay pray for you my friend when you
7:04 pray you are doing the greatest thing
7:05 you can
7:08 do and sometimes we as Christians are so
7:11 accustomed to saying
7:15 prayers that we've lost the
7:17 vastness and the
7:20 greatness of this thing that the Bible calls
7:28 prayer if you discover a a student for
7:32 example who who has a tremendous gift of
7:35 Music the way to encourage him is to
7:37 take him to hear the greatest music he can
7:38 can
7:41 hear let him go to the to the symphony
7:45 and let him hear the greatness of the
7:47 music of the past and something down
7:49 inside will be
7:52 ignited if you have a child who seems to
7:55 have gifts of literature and writing the
7:57 thing to do is to put in his hands the
8:00 greatest literature of the past and let
8:03 that literature as it were be kindling
8:11 inside the way to catch greatness is to
8:12 share in
8:15 it and if you and I are going to have
8:18 greatness in our Christian lives to the
8:20 glory of God there has to be greatness
8:21 to our
8:24 praying and for this reason we're going
8:28 to be focusing our attention on John
8:31 17 the greatest
8:34 prayer ever
8:36 prayed someone might at this point say
8:38 well how can you prove that this is the
8:40 greatest prayer ever prayed I don't have
8:41 to prove
8:45 it it's right there for us to
8:49 read but I would like to notice with
8:52 you several
8:54 considerations that make this the
8:56 greatest prayer ever
8:59 prayed and if you and I can somehow catch
9:00 catch
9:03 the greatness of this prayer I think it
9:06 will Elevate our own prayer
9:09 life instead of staying constantly in
9:12 that juvenile level we'll find ourselves
9:15 growing and deepening and maturing in
9:16 our prayer
9:18 life and so let's notice these
9:21 considerations of John chap
9:25 17 that make this the greatest prayer ever
9:26 ever
9:29 prayed consider first of all the
9:33 greatness of the person who uttered this
9:36 prayer these words spoke
9:39 spoke
9:41 Jesus now there are many great prayer
9:43 warriors in the
9:45 Bible if you ever want to have your own
9:48 prayer life quickened and encouraged
9:50 just read in the word of God and you'll
9:54 find Abraham as he intercedes for
9:57 Sodom lot is living in Sodom with his
10:00 family and Abraham is is praying and
10:03 interceding for Sodom it's a great
10:06 prayer you see Moses up in the
10:10 Mountaintop Israel has sinned and Moses
10:13 comes up to God and he says don't blot
10:17 them out forgive their sins blot my name
10:21 out of the book of life it's a great
10:23 prayer the longest prayer I think in the
10:25 Bible is the one that Solomon prayed at
10:27 the dedication of the temple I have been
10:29 to the dedications of buildings notice
10:32 that people pray long but Solomon's
10:35 Prayer was an inspired prayer and
10:38 Solomon is dedicating this beautiful
10:40 Temple and yet you take the prayer of
10:43 Abraham or the prayer of Moses or the
10:46 prayer of Solomon and you put it next to
10:51 John CH 17 and these men just fade
10:55 into Oblivion Abraham was praying about
11:00 one city and one event in one city Jesus
11:03 is praying about the whole church and
11:05 God's work for all
11:09 eternity Moses is praying for one nation
11:12 Jesus Christ is praying for people saved
11:15 out of many nations Moses was willing to
11:17 die Jesus did
11:21 die Solomon is praying about a temple
11:23 our Lord is praying about a spiritual
11:26 Temple his church it cost Solomon
11:29 nothing for that Temple to be built it
11:31 cost Jesus everything for this prayer to be
11:32 be
11:35 prayed consider the greatness of the
11:38 person who uttered this
11:41 prayer you see Jesus was a man of
11:45 prayer when he was baptized he was
11:48 prayed before he chose his disciples he
11:51 spent all night in
11:54 prayer early in the morning he arose and
11:58 went out to a quiet place to pray when
12:00 he was TR
12:03 transfigured he was praying when they
12:05 came to arrest him in the garden he was
12:08 praying as they nailed him to a cross he was
12:13 praying and today Jesus Christ is
12:17 interceding for his church Jesus was a
12:20 man of prayer now my dear friend if
12:25 Jesus Christ the son of God had to
12:28 pray how much more do you and I need to pray
12:30 pray
12:34 if Jesus Christ your savior who was
12:38 conceived of the Holy Spirit and born
12:42 into this world sinless in nature had to
12:45 pray how much more do you and I who
12:48 confess with David in sin did my mother
12:52 conceive me how much more do we have to
12:55 pray our Lord prayed a prayer of thanks
12:57 as he broke the
13:00 bread that came came from his father's
13:03 hand our Lord prayed a prayer of
13:05 dedication and intercession as he stood
13:08 outside the tomb of Lazarus about to
13:10 raise him from the dead when he had the
13:14 supper with his disciples he prayed and
13:16 blessed if Jesus had to pray how much
13:20 more do we have to pray in him dwells
13:23 all the fullness of the godhead bodily
13:27 but he prayed this is my beloved Son in
13:30 whom I am well pleased but he
13:34 prayed all authority is given to me but he
13:36 he
13:38 prayed do you and I think that we can
13:41 get through life without
13:44 praying a you left your room this
13:51 pray consider the greatness of the
13:54 person who uttered this
13:57 prayer Jesus the son of
14:01 God a second consideration comes to us
14:03 showing the greatness of this
14:08 prayer consider the greatness of the
14:12 petitions that he asked in this
14:16 prayer my good friend Dr Layman Strauss
14:19 has written a very fine book on prayer I
14:20 recommend it to you published by The Moody
14:21 Moody
14:25 press it's called sense and nonsense about
14:27 about
14:30 prayer I have a shelf of books about
14:32 prayer in my library and I think Dr
14:33 Strauss has written one of the best
14:35 because he gets right down to the
14:37 nitty-gritty right down as they say to
14:41 where the rubber touches the
14:43 road and he deals with this problem of
14:50 prayer people praying for things they
14:51 have no right to pray
14:54 for people praying foolish requests
15:03 you see greatness in prayer involves
15:05 greatness in
15:08 petition now we expect little children
15:10 to pray as they
15:13 do I forgotten which one it was but one
15:15 of my nephews when he was just a Little
15:18 Tike used to pray for all the dogs in the
15:19 the
15:21 neighborhood and then he would add my
15:28 end well children pray like that you
15:30 expect a little 2-year-old or
15:32 three-year-old when learning how to pray
15:37 to to lisp juvenile petitions then they
15:39 grow but my friend you've been saved a
15:41 lot longer than
15:44 that there's no longer a
15:48 juvenile mind or heart Paul said when I
15:50 became a man I put away childish things
15:52 that should include childish
15:57 praying in John chap 17 our Lord is
16:00 petitioning his father and there are
16:05 three basic petitions here in verses 1-5
16:08 our Lord prays for himself and his
16:11 concern is God's glory did you notice
16:16 that father the hour is come glorify thy
16:22 son that thy son Also may glorify thee
16:25 verse four I have glorified thee on the
16:28 earth verse five and now oh Father
16:31 glorify thou me you say that sounds
16:34 rather selfish my if you and I came and
16:37 said oh God glorify me that would be
16:39 selfish but if you come and say dear
16:43 Lord Use Me For Your Glory share your
16:47 glory with me that I may glorify thee
16:50 that's a different story whenever our
16:52 Lord talks about being glorified he's
17:00 Resurrection the hour he's talking about
17:03 is the hour of his death burial and
17:05 Resurrection our Lord Jesus Christ is
17:08 referring here to the
17:12 cross and so he's not praying selfishly
17:14 he's playing praying in a very dedicated
17:17 surrendered fashion he's saying father
17:20 I'm available I want to glorify you and
17:23 this will happen as you glorify me as I
17:26 get my work done here on
17:29 Earth he prayed for himself
17:31 that God might be
17:33 glorified I'm afraid that too often you
17:35 and I pray for ourselves but we don't
17:39 think about God's glory oh Lord I need
17:43 this do you oh God this has to happen does
17:44 does
17:48 it have you noticed in the Lord's
17:50 Prayer or the disciples prayer that he
17:54 taught his disciples to pray as a
17:58 model God comes first and we come second
17:59 you ever noticed that
18:02 God never gave us the Lord's Prayer just
18:05 to be recited it could be and and it
18:07 could be done profitably but it's a
18:10 model prayer he says now when you pray
18:13 pray after this fashion Our Father who
18:14 art in
18:18 heaven Hallowed be thy name God's name
18:22 comes first God the Father oh may your
18:24 name be
18:28 hallowed then God the son thy kingdom
18:31 come God the Holy Spirit thy will be
18:33 done on Earth as it is in heaven we
18:36 begin with the Trinity hallowing God the
18:39 father's name bringing Jesus Christ in
18:41 his kingdom to this
18:45 earth praying even so come quickly Lord
18:47 Jesus yielding to the holy spirit that
18:50 God's will might be done once we've
18:51 taken care of that
18:54 that
18:57 then we start turning to our own
19:01 needs give us this day our daily bread
19:05 and forgive us our trespasses and lead
19:08 us not into temptation but Deliver Us
19:11 from Evil most of us don't pray like
19:13 that when you look at the greatness of
19:16 the petitions in this prayer it lifts
19:19 your own praying a little higher he was
19:26 glory in order for him to glorify God he
19:28 had to suffer and die am I willing
19:31 willing to suffer and die that God be
19:34 glorified when the news came to
19:39 Jesus that Lazarus was sick our lord
19:43 said this sickness is not under death
19:45 but that God might be
19:48 glorified Lazarus had to get sick and
19:51 die and then be raised from the dead
19:53 that God might be glorified you see when
19:57 you start praying about the glory of God
19:59 it lifts your request
20:06 God his second petition is for his
20:08 disciples verses
20:12 6-9 he prays for these men that God has
20:15 given to him and he has two requests
20:18 number one he prays for their security
20:22 verse 11 keep through thine own name
20:24 those that thou Hast given me then he
20:29 prays for their sanctity verse 17
20:32 sanctify them through thy truth Thy word
20:34 is truth here are his two great
20:38 petitions for his disciples for their
20:41 security father keep them for their
20:44 sanctity father keep them pure make them
20:46 all that they ought to be these are great
20:51 requests then he prays for his whole
20:54 church in verses 20 through 26 and there
20:56 he has two
21:00 requests he prays first of all for Unity
21:04 verse 21 that they all may be one not an
21:08 ecumenical Unity of one organization but
21:12 a spiritual Unity of one heart he's not
21:14 praying that everyone erase all
21:17 denominational distinctives nor is he
21:19 saying we should forget our own do
21:22 doctrinal commitments no he's praying
21:25 for a spiritual Unity that they all may
21:30 be one as thou father art in me me and I
21:34 in thee that they also may be one in us
21:37 now there is a spiritual Unity among the
21:39 true people of
21:42 God here at the Moody Church we have
21:45 many different Evangelical denominations
21:47 represented we have people who have come
21:51 from church backgrounds that vary that
21:53 are different and yet there is a
21:56 spiritual Unity a Oneness in Jesus
21:59 Christ it's my privilege and I
22:01 appreciate the privilege of ministering
22:02 in other
22:05 places there are times when I am with
22:06 this group there are times when I with
22:09 that group and in both groups I feel
22:11 very much at home because there's a spiritual
22:13 spiritual
22:17 Oneness our Lord prayed for you and me here
22:17 here
22:20 today and our Lord prayed that there
22:23 might be a Oneness a unity and he also
22:25 prayed for
22:28 Glory verse 22 the glory which thou gave
22:31 Gest me I've have given them verse 24
22:34 father I will also who that they whom
22:37 thou Hast given me be with me where I am
22:41 by the way the last time a saint
22:44 died God answered that
22:47 prayer someone in your family who knows
22:50 the Lord went to sleep and didn't wake
22:52 up again God answered that prayer father
22:55 I will that they also whom thou has
22:58 given me be with me where I am absent
23:00 from the body present with the Lord the
23:02 next time death comes and takes someone
23:05 that you hold near and dear you will
23:07 weep there is sorrow but remember this
23:09 it's an answer to
23:12 prayer Our Lord prayed that we might go
23:15 to heaven for what purpose that they may
23:17 behold my
23:21 glory oh what marvelous petitions he
23:24 begins with God being glorified he ends
23:28 with God's people seeing his glory and
23:32 sharing his glory he prays for himself
23:36 Glory oh God be glorified he prays for
23:40 his disciples may they be Sanctified may
23:43 they be kept safe he prays for the whole
23:47 church may they be unified and may they
23:50 gather in heaven to behold my glory the
23:53 greatness of the
23:55 petitions that he
23:58 uttered I think if I were facing a cross
24:01 I I wouldn't be praying like
24:04 this some of us uh can hardly even face
24:07 going to the dentist let alone going to a
24:08 a
24:11 cross and yet the greatness of these
24:16 petitions lifts our own prayer life
24:19 higher there's a third consideration
24:21 that makes this a great if not the greatest
24:22 greatest
24:25 prayer consider the greatness of the
24:29 purpose involved in this prayer
24:31 what is the purpose involved in this
24:34 prayer you'll find it eight
24:37 times as we spend several weeks together
24:41 the Lord willing going through John 17
24:43 eight times you're going to find this
24:45 purpose eight times you find this one
24:50 word Glory glorify Glory it's twice in
24:54 verse one glorify thy son that thy son
24:56 may glorify thee verse four I have
24:59 glorified thee on the Earth Earth verse
25:02 5 and now oh Father glorify me with
25:04 thine own self with the glory which I
25:07 had with thee before the world was verse
25:11 10 I am glorified in them verse 22 the
25:14 glory which thou gavest me I've given
25:21 glory our Lord was facing a cross yet
25:24 he's talking about Glory why on the
25:27 other side of that cross he saw Glory
25:30 the purpose for his praying was Glory
25:33 the glory of
25:37 God what do we mean by the glory of God
25:38 of course in the Old Testament the glory
25:42 of God meant the flashing of all of his
25:44 brightness and his
25:46 Splendor when they dedicated the
25:50 Tabernacle God's glory came and dwelt
25:53 there and so great was the glory that
25:56 men feared when they dedicated the
25:58 temple the glory of God came and filled
26:02 the temple and they weren't able to
26:05 serve in the New Testament you have that same
26:06 same
26:11 idea wrapped up in the expression of all
26:14 of God's character the glory of God
26:16 doesn't just mean the flashing of his
26:20 majesty and the Brilliance of his
26:27 unapproachable but the glory of God also
26:31 means The Shining forth of all of his
26:36 character the beauty of all of his
26:39 attributes what is Jesus Christ
26:41 concerned about he's concerned about the
26:42 glory of
26:47 God now verse five tells me he came from
26:50 Glory the glory which I had with thee
26:52 before the world
26:55 was he came from
26:58 Glory while he was here on Earth he
27:02 glorified God verse four I have
27:05 glorified thee on the earth he gave this
27:10 glory to those who trusted him verse 22
27:12 the glory which thou gavest me I have given
27:13 given
27:16 them not only did he come from Glory not
27:19 only did he glorify God on Earth in his
27:22 life his death his
27:24 resurrection not only did he give this
27:27 glory to his people but he dares to say
27:32 in verse vers 10 I am glorified in them
27:35 I wonder if our lord Jesus could come
27:38 and look at our fellowship and say I am
27:40 glorified in
27:43 them I wonder if Jesus Christ can walk
27:45 into our
27:49 homes and look at our families and say I
27:56 them verse 24 he tells us we're going to
27:59 behold his glory and so from start to
28:01 finish this prayer is concerned about
28:05 one thing the glory of God Paul had this
28:08 same idea when he said whether therefore
28:11 you eat or drink or whatsoever you do do
28:15 all to the glory of God he wrote to the
28:17 Philippian church and
28:22 said that Christ might be magnified in
28:30 I think our praying would mean a lot
28:33 more if we just lift a little higher and
28:36 say oh God here are the things I think I
28:37 need and here are the things I think I
28:39 ought to have and here are the things I
28:41 think you ought to do but Lord I'm
28:44 giving it to you and I want you to be
28:47 glorified whatever it is you want to do
28:49 you receive the
28:52 glory Jesus said I receive not Glory
28:55 from men he could have compromised and
28:57 received Glory from men he wouldn't do it
28:59 it
29:01 he said the only Glory I receive is the
29:07 God there's a fourth consideration that
29:11 makes this the greatest prayer ever
29:13 prayed we've considered the greatness of
29:15 the person who uttered the prayer and
29:18 the greatness of the petitions that he
29:21 uttered and the greatness of the purpose
29:24 of the prayer God's glory but consider
29:28 fourthly the greatness of the people
29:31 people about whom he was
29:38 praying he said I pray not for the world
29:40 many people have the idea that our Lord
29:43 Jesus Christ in his closing hours on this
29:44 this
29:48 Earth was interceding for a lost world
29:52 he wasn't nor is he
29:55 today you and I should
29:58 be we should pray for all men that
29:59 includes the
30:01 unsaved we ought to be interceding for
30:05 the lost but today Jesus Christ is
30:07 continuing what he started here in John
30:10 17 he's praying not for the whole
30:14 world he's praying for his church the
30:17 greatest people in the world today are
30:20 those who belong to his church I'm not
30:23 talking about church members who belong
30:26 to some local organization I'm in favor
30:28 of that every Christian ought to be a
30:32 part of a local Bible believing Christ exalting
30:33 exalting
30:36 assembly I'm talking about those people
30:39 who have the characteristics that he
30:43 points out here up in verse two he's
30:46 given them eternal
30:50 life verse 14 I've given them Thy word
30:54 verse 22 I've given them thy Glory who
30:58 makes up his church those who by faith
31:00 have received eternal life those who
31:03 have received his word those who have his
31:04 his
31:08 glory those who share his life down
31:10 inside that's his
31:13 church that's for whom he's
31:16 praying now interestingly enough the
31:21 word world is used 19 times in this
31:24 chapter 19 times he mentions the world
31:29 the word world but he does so as a
31:34 background against which his people can
31:37 shine in glory it's the church he's
31:41 praying about he prays for his disciples
31:43 they were his Believers he prays for
31:47 believers today verse 20 neither pray I
31:50 for these alone but for them also Who
31:52 Shall Believe on me that's a great
31:54 encouragement when Peter stood up at
31:56 Pentecost to preach he remembered that
32:03 believe the greatness of the people for
32:05 whom he's praying we have been living
32:08 through a whole generation of
32:12 people who have been criticizing the
32:14 church a great many organizations have
32:17 been founded and these organizations say
32:19 we are doing what the church cannot do
32:21 or will not
32:24 do I'm getting a little tired of
32:27 that for these same organizations that
32:28 tell us they are doing what the church
32:30 cannot do or will not do come to the
32:32 church for their
32:36 support financial support prayer support
32:38 leadership support and we're glad to
32:40 give it we're glad for any organization
32:45 God raises up to win souls teach the
32:47 word but there's no organization that
32:49 takes the place of a local
32:51 church our Lord is praying here for his
32:55 people who belong to that great body of
32:56 Christ and who meet together in
33:00 individual Bond bodes he's saying oh God
33:13 selfish our Lord wasn't praying
33:16 selfishly he says about these people
33:18 I've called them out of the
33:20 world and I'm going to send them back
33:22 into the world I've called them out that
33:24 I might save them I'm sending them back
33:26 that they might serve
33:29 me as the father sent me I'm going to
33:32 send them and so we're in this world to
33:36 witness for Jesus Christ and he's
33:39 praying for us the greatness of the
33:43 people for whom he prayed when Solomon
33:45 prayed he prayed to dedicate a building
33:47 made of gold and silver and costly
33:51 Stones our lord Jesus is praying for his
33:54 church a temple made of Blood Bought
33:58 people quarried out of the pits of sin
34:01 cemented by grace on the foundation Jesus
34:03 Jesus
34:05 Christ I wonder if you're a part of those
34:06 those
34:08 people have you trusted Christ have you
34:12 received eternal life verse two have you
34:16 received his word verse 14 do you have
34:19 his glory down inside verse
34:22 22 there's a final
34:26 consideration and perhaps the
34:28 greatest consider
34:32 the greatness of the price that Jesus
34:36 Paid to answer this
34:38 prayer how many times you and I have
34:40 prayed and God has answered and it
34:46 much there are times when we've been in
34:48 emergencies we've said oh God help and
34:51 God's help didn't cost us anything

34:55 me and God saved him didn't cost him anything
35:01 but there are times when we pray prayers
35:03 and God says are you prepared to pay the
35:10 that Moses is off taking care of his
35:12 sheep in the desert he's saying oh
35:15 Jehovah God how is it back in Egypt how
35:17 are my people back in Egypt and God
35:19 calls him and says I'm going to do
35:21 something and Moses says wonderful I've
35:22 been praying about that I'm going to send
35:29 you Nehemiah
35:33 had a soft position in the palace he was
35:36 the cup Bearer to the king and one of
35:39 his relatives took a trip to the Holy
35:42 Land and when he came back Nehemiah said
35:44 to him how are things in Jerusalem I've
35:47 been praying about Jerusalem and he said
35:49 oh the walls are burned down and broken
35:51 down the gates are burned and it's
35:55 terrible and Nehemiah prays oh God the
35:58 city of my fathers the great City of the
36:00 great king oh do something God said
36:02 Nehemiah I'm sending
36:05 you and Nehemiah gave up his soft
36:07 position in the palace and became the
36:11 governor to rebuild a war torn city it
36:19 pray it cost Jesus Christ his life to
36:22 answer this prayer father the hour is
36:25 come what hour the hour when I'm going
36:27 to die but why are you going to die oh
36:29 because I want to answer this
36:32 prayer God can't be glorified unless I
36:35 die there cannot be the people of God
36:38 unified and Sanctified unless I die I
36:41 can't give you my glory unless I die you
36:43 mean you have to die to answer this prayer
36:46 prayer yes
36:55 yes written into John 17 is one word the
36:58 word is not there as I get it but the
37:01 idea is there it's the word
37:06 Grace 17 times in John 17 you find the
37:14 given God the Father gave the son God
37:18 the son gave himself God the Father gave
37:21 people to the son the son gave them
37:24 everlasting life seven times in this
37:27 chapter you and I are called Those whom
37:29 thou thou has given me we think of
37:32 Salvation as the Father's Love gift to
37:35 us God so loved he gave his son we are
37:37 the Father's Love gift to his
37:40 son oh Father I would that Those whom
37:43 thou has given to me oh to think that
37:46 you and I are God's gift to his
37:48 son it's
37:51 Grace but Grace costs
37:55 something grace is free to you and me it
37:58 cost Jesus his life
38:00 oh the greatness of the
38:05 price that Jesus had to pay to answer
38:07 this prayer someone here says well I I
38:11 want this eternal life thou has given
38:14 him authority over All Flesh that he
38:17 should give eternal life to as many as
38:20 thou H has given him I want this eternal
38:22 life you can have this eternal life it
38:26 cost Jesus his life how do you get it
38:29 receive it you say I want this to be
38:32 true of my life that he says in verse 24
38:34 I want to be with him up in heaven I
38:37 want to behold his glory you can have
38:44 Cross we take these things so lightly we
38:46 speak of them so glibly we sing of them
38:50 so carelessly
38:52 sometimes and yet for you to go to
38:55 heaven to see his glory he had to go to
38:58 hell and die
39:01 for us to behold Glory he had to suffer
39:05 shame for us to have life he had to have
39:09 death oh the greatness of the price he
39:15 prayer measured by this
39:18 prayer Our Own praying may seem very weak
39:20 weak
39:24 and ineffective but don't feel that
39:27 way the greatest Ministry you can have
39:29 is the Ministry of
39:32 prayer and the greatness of this prayer
39:35 encourages me to pray the greatness of
39:38 the person who prayed if Jesus had to
39:40 pray how much more do I and when I pray
39:42 this makes me more like him the
39:45 greatness of the petitions oh may the
39:48 Lord help us to pray for the big things
39:51 the Eternal things the vast things as
39:54 well as those small things in the light
39:57 of the big things
39:59 the greatness of the purpose of this
40:02 prayer the glory of God not my own
40:04 Comfort not my own
40:07 success the glory of
40:10 God the greatness of the
40:13 people to pray for more than just myself
40:16 my family my little group that excites
40:19 me so much oh to pray for the ongoing
40:21 and the strengthening and the building
40:24 of his
40:29 church and the greatness of the price
40:31 to be willing to say dear
40:35 Lord you paid a
40:43 me prayer is the greatest
40:47 exercise you and I can share in as we
40:51 worship God as we petition
40:55 God as we surrender to
40:58 God did you notice that in this prayer
41:06 unsaved father I pray for those Who
41:14 word father others are going to believe
41:16 and others are going to
41:19 believe father I want to pray for
41:21 them if you're unsaved
41:25 today if you've never received the
41:28 Savior you're
41:31 here he can save
41:35 you he prayed for
41:38 you why don't you come and trust
41:42 him God has given you the gift of his
41:45 son now he wants to take
41:58 son gracious father
42:01 as we have been considering this prayer
42:09 Ground that all that we have
42:14 said has been but a little cup of
42:16 water dipped from a vast
42:19 vast
42:22 ocean forgive us the smallness of our Christian
42:24 Christian
42:29 lives the little things that RP us
42:32 up forgive us oh lord for the smallness
42:37 praying help us oh
42:40 God so to be caught up in the greatness of
42:42 of
42:45 prayer and the greatness of your will

43:07 Savior any who hear this word oh that
43:09 they may come and trust you speak to their
43:10 their
43:14 hearts and help those of us who are your
