Hi, it’s Kasondra. I'm a speech therapist and  today we have some exercises for people with  

moderate to severe aphasia or apraxia of speech. These exercises are for somebody who has a  

hard time getting their words out. They may  have been told they have expressive aphasia  

or Broca’s aphasia or non-fluent aphasia. And we will do some rote automatics which  

is speech that people generally can say  without having to think too hard about it. 

Today we'll do counting 1 to 20, days of the week,  and months of the year. Each exercise we’ll do two  

times and this is to promote neuroplasticity:  the brain's ability to rewire itself. 

One of the principles to neuroplasticity is  repetition, doing it over and over. And that's why  

you might want to watch this this video every day  to continue practicing these exercises every day. 

The camera is going to zoom in and show my mouth  closely. This often helps the brain know where the  

articulators, the mouth, the lips, the tongue  should be placed as you're saying each word. 

Gives the brain extra input to help  rebuild the accuracy of your speech  

and where your lips and mouth are moving. So  let's get started! First, we'll have counting.
