good morning everyone from Gansu
Province the sun is about to come up
behind this big chunky mountain in front
of us and once the Sun's Up I have a
whole day of adventures coming up so
the sun is finally up and this is not
like your normal Sunrise where the sun
is kind of soft and warm at first
because it came up from behind a
mountain it's like blazing glaring right
in your eyeball like a laser but it's
beautiful nevertheless look at that mist down
down
there look at that sky look at those
trees look at that mountain yes today's
going to be a beautiful day and I'm
going to take you guys with me this is
Gan one of various Tibetan autonomous
prefectures scattered throughout Western
and Central China where Tibetan culture
architecture and language dominate the
landscape and today we're going to be
apparently this horse is only at 2 years
old so he or she I didn't look he or she
is very shy and uh doesn't like to be
near the crowd but that's okay cuz it
feels like a private tour because
everyone else is way ahead and I'm just
here chilling enjoying the scenery it's
on the way to this Village we passed by
countless tents of hurting families
scattered throughout the hills and
grasslands but many people are leaving
behind this lifestyle we pass through a
village where hurting families are now
living in houses year round during the
warm summer months they run airbnbs for
tourists and all year round they sell
grasslands [Music]
shy horse has finally rejoined the herd rejoined
rejoined
friends [Music]
we spent one night in Deo and people
tend to have a perception of western
China as being behind or not as
developed but this city felt as clean
and modernized as any other city in Eastern
Eastern [Music]
[Music] China
China
on top of that if you take a closer look
you'll find that it's retained many
aspects of the various ethnic minority
cultures that inhabit it everyone is
preserving and celebrating their culture
in their own [Music]
way [Music]
we've seen the sunrise eyes we've seen
the nature we've seen the horses now
it's time to check out one of the local
Villages there are literally mountains
on every side look at this mountains over
over
here mountains over
there and
mountains mountains over
everywhere of course we also tried some local
Delicacies one of which was zanga which
is kind of like a paste made out of
baked flour milk tea and butter I'm not
going to lie it really wasn't my thing
on the other hand this big yellow
Behemoth over here and the Tibetan
flatbread got my attention so this thing
over here is kind of like a combination
of butter and cheese you put it between
this traditional bread and this is good
stuff this is a quality item right here
look at that it's like the flavor of
butter but with the texture of cheese
for I'm really happy to see stuff under
construction in this Village because so
many villages in China are having a
serious issue with losing young people
their populations are getting smaller
and smaller and smaller but the fact
that people are building things here and
quite a few things actually look at all
this it shows that the tourism industry
is really bringing a lot of Revenue to
this place and should help keep people
interested in living in this Village
long term and because the main source of
income for this place is tourism they
have a big motivation to retain the
traditional look of the village because
that's like half of why people come here
so even though lot of new stuff is under
construction they're going to continue
making it in the style that this Village
is known for so they can retain that
original atmosphere and also it's really
obvious just from walking around here
that these construction projects are
being done by the local people it's not
like people from outside are coming in
here and like taking over this Village
for commercial purposes because I mean
if you think about it why do people
visit this place in the first place it's
because they want a taste of Tibetan
culture so of course you would hope that
the hotel you're staying at or the
restaurants you're eating at is actually
run by local people and that they are
the ones who are benefiting economically
from this business opportunity Tibetans
are the soul of this place if they're
not here what's the point fortunately
lots of local people are taking
advantage of the tourism boom even
elderly people such as this grandpa I
Airbnb honestly I have no idea which one
it is we've got a bit of a language
barrier here here but I'm happy for him
everyone here is so friendly although
I'm not going to lie it is a little bit
tough to communicate with them because
Tibetan is their first language Chinese
is the language used in schools in the
city but in rural areas like this
according to this morning's horse guide
all the main subjects are taught in
tibetan and then students have a
specific Mandarin class pretty much
everyone especially the younger
Generations speaks Mandarin but it's a
usually when I see people drying
vegetables or drying grains it's done on
the ground or some things will be hung
on like a string or whatever but this
things oh my gosh the mother load of
these things is coming look at this
they're everywhere and they're huge look
snazzy I see you you little rascal
eating everybody's
crops yeah I see
you in China Villages are disappearing
at a super fast rate all over the
country many members of the younger
generation just don't want to live the
rough hurting life or deal with the
chores of being a small farmer when
there are less exhausting and more well
paying jobs available in towns and
cities but the combination of natural
beauty and cultural uniqueness that
Chana has makes it very appealing to
tourists and countless locals have
gotten in on the sudden tourism
development ironically the influx of
visitors from other provinces and even
other countries may just be what is
needed to preserve this place's local
culture for generations to come I hope
you guys enjoyed your time here and I
will see you in the next video
