At Laviano and Gany, we want to make
good trouble. To make good trouble means
to use our system that is terribly
unfair for most people who need access
to justice accessible and meaningful.
And we feel that we're making good
trouble every day. I'm Jen Laviano. My
law firm is Laviano and Gany. We're
located in Connecticut. And I've been a
Cleo customer since 2011. I'm a second
generation special education lawyer. My
father started practicing special
education law in the 1980s. My mission
is to make sure that children with
disabilities receive the services that
they're entitled to so they can be
productive adults. About 15% of the
students who attend public schools in
this country have disabilities. It says
millions of children in our country who
are either going to be productive, happy
members of our society because we teach
them the right way and we give them
skills or they won't. We represent
families all over the state of
Connecticut who just don't understand
the legal rights. They don't understand
what their kids are entitled to. We
understand what those rights are and we
go in there and we advocate and make
sure that our clients are receiving the
programming and services that they're
entitled to. I entered uh the legal
profession for very personal reasons. I
am the mother of a 29-year-old named
Ryan who is profoundly autistic and
intellectually disabled. When he was 5
years old, I hired a special education
attorney for him. Through his advocacy,
it changed the whole trajectory of
Ryan's life. And so, at 44 years old, I
went to law school full-time so that I
could represent families like mine and
hopefully have the same impact that my
special education attorney had on our
family. Kids with disabilities have the
right to a free and appropriate public
education and they have a right to have
access to programming and services that
meets their needs just like other
students do. The impact of advocating
for children with disabilities for
almost 30 years is tremendous. For the
children we represent, it's really
wonderful to see them blossom and grow.
when they feel that they are now being
empowered and that they're learning,
they're actually learning along with
their non-disabled peers. That's
incredible. It's transformative is what
