oh wow i didn't realize that my camera
was so low pointed at me
okay cool what's going on youtube in
today's video we are going to
talk about my personal top
all right guys so my reasoning for
making this video is because i posted a
video it was like a day in the life of a
walgreens worker
and i'm a small youtuber i don't get
many views and
that video is climbing and it's been climbing
climbing
every day a lot more a lot more
than uh any one of my other videos so
i'm like you know what
um i looked in the comments and i seen
that you know a lot of people were
just getting hired for walgreens a lot
of people were
they've been they started walgreens it's
been like a week or two for them
um so they haven't had much experience
with walgreens and people have been
you know saying you know can you give me
any tips on getting hired can you give me
me
any tips on working so i'm like you know
what instead of typing in the comments
let's make a video
just in case people are searching for
this so i can
give them my experience i'm 20 years old
college student working for walgreens
i've been working
with the company uh this year
will make two years i believe no
this the end of this year we'll make
three years i'm coming up on three years
in the company don't worry um given my
major in school
i am definitely still venturing out and
looking for other things but this is just
just
to inform people that need it so
let's get on to the tips
my personal tips for working at walgreens
walgreens
tip number one is get to know your store
and here's how i personally did that when
when
i started working at wildlings for the
first time
so basically what i did was um
my store manager gave me the opportunity
to walk around the store and when i say
walk around the store i
actually would walk up and down each aisle
aisle
look at the things that's in the aisle
look up because
most walgreens if if not all they have
signs and the signs say
what is in the aisle what items are in
those aisles so honestly
um that's a tip that honestly everyone
should do
um you know ask your store manager or
ask the shift lead whoever's there
working if
you know you can take the first half an
hour or as long as you can as long as
they can allow you to walk the store and
get to know
the store and that's everything that
means pharmacy things too um
look you can't necessarily go back into pharmacy
pharmacy
or you might be able to uh that all
depends on how the pharmacy is
but uh you know even look and see what
items pharmacy has you know
um ask pharmacy about things that you
know maybe a customer might ask
and you know just just walk around the
store and get to know your store walk
walk over to the photo counter if the
wagons has
and i believe all of them should have
get to know the photo counter get to
know that everything that's
there get to you know use the
items and the the computers and stuff in the
the
at the photo counter and just know where
everything is in your store
get accustomed to it so that um even me
as an example
i it got to a point in my old store i
knew where everything in the store was
but i didn't know the aisle because i
wasn't necessarily looking up at the aisle
aisle
but like if someone asked for something
while i'm on the floor and i'm not on
and i'm not on the cash register i would
easily be like oh
i know where it is and i would walk them
to it and sometimes i would create
conversation with them
and say i know where it is i just can't
tell you the aisle because i don't know
which aisle it is and you know it kind
of creates a funny conversation
that gets you through that conversation
and lets you uh
uh find the item that the customer is
looking for so that is my tip
my tip number one is get to know your store
store
number two which a lot of the
all the new people will will understand
this and honestly
every walgreens worker will will know
this do your ppls and the pbs is
basically i don't know what it stands for
for
i'm calling crazy i've been in this for
almost three years i don't know what it
stands for
but it's basically like an online
training platform that you are only
allowed to do
at work from my understanding because
when you're home you can't do them
because you have to get paid for your
time working of course and
um the ppos like i said it's it's an
online training
where you know some of them might be
videos some of them might be things to read
read
uh online classes or whatever and
they're not
some of them are longer than others
don't get me wrong some of them are definitely
definitely
long takes it could take a couple of
shifts because of course you can't do
the ppl with the whole eight hours
but some ppl actually stops you from
being able to
work on the floor so when you're new
your store manager or your shift lead
might tell you hey
you have these amount of ppl to do and
we can't let you work on the floor until
you do them
when you do your ppl actually do them
and actually read them because honestly
there's things in ppos that when i
started you know i wasn't necessarily
reading it
then when it came down to me actually
having to do something on the job that
the ppl
was teaching you uh the shifty would say
but the ppl should have taught you and
then that's where you know you know i didn't
didn't
you know make up an excuse me right i
said i didn't understand it
but uh just for you guys if you guys are
new or if you guys are you know
planning on applying to walgreens make
sure you do your ppls those help you a lot
lot
tip number three is get to know your
co-workers and this is simply because if you
you
get to know and understand your
coworkers they're more likely to do
favors for you
rather than if you're just like kind of
like stuck up and rude and mean to them
then it's like
you know they didn't get a chance to
really know you and things like that so
then it's like
like say if you have to you can't you're
not on your 15 minute break it or you're
not on your 30 minute break
and you need to take a quick phone call
and you ask
one of your co-workers hey can you come
take me off the register really quickly
so i can grab a quick phone call
and they're going to say no because they
you didn't take the time to get to know
them and
you're rude to them and things like that
now get to know your coworkers because
honestly your co-workers
especially if they're more experienced
than you they
are more likely to help you out
in your job and i say that myself because
because
i've been in the newbie position and
i've been in the position where
i'm training newbies so it's like
you know if someone gets to know me and
gets to understand i'm like oh this
person's pretty cool
you know if they need help if they need
to grab a drink or go to the bathroom or
you know grab a phone call or do something
something
then i got them i'm going to help them
out so um that's just a tip that
i'm i can understand from a newbie
standpoint and i'm a person that trains newbies
newbies
so yeah make sure you get to know your
co-workers and that
also includes your shift leads and your
store manager make sure you get to know
them too because
then say you need to change your
availability they'll be more likely to
you know work things out with you so get
to know your co-workers
tip number four is get to know the
customers and this could be
a thing that people could argue with me
about or have a difference in opinion
but honestly i i would say get to know
your customers
why this goes hand-in-hand with tip
number one say you have a customer that
keeps coming into the store
and you know what that customer buys on
a daily basis some customers
only buy cigarettes some customers always
always
buy like maybe they have kids and they
always buy diapers and things like that
and sometimes they might have to buy lotion
lotion
just you know using that as an example
get to know your customers because
once you know the store and you know the customers
customers
it's quick and easy they come in you go
oh okay
i know exactly what you're looking for
boom boom boom you help them
or not even that you know what they're
gonna buy so then once you see them
about to come onto the register you're
able to ring them out quick because
again you know what they buy so you know
where the barcode
is on each of the items that they buy so
get to know your customers because that
can also really help you get to know
your store
and it helps you understand where things
are because you see them going to the
same aisle
buying certain things so it's kind of like
like
muscle memory you know where they're
going and you know what they're buying
so now you automatically know okay
this is in that aisle on this shelf
because i see them shopping here
so that is another tip is get to know
the customers
tip number five is get to know the
demographics and what people buy this
also goes hand in hand with number four
because say you don't necessarily know
the customers but you know the type of
customers that walk into the store
and this isn't like a race thing it's
just saying it's it's
it's honestly kind of like statistics
like you see what people buy depending
on who's shopping
so really if you know the demographics
you also know
in your store what sells and what doesn't
doesn't
that's the point that i'm trying to make
it's not necessarily a race thing but
it's more
you know what sells and what doesn't so
say there's a there's a
quick sale or whatever and
you have to move some items up to the
front so customers can buy
you know what sells because you know
who's buying what so you'll put the
items that sell you'll bring all of that
up front
and on top of that if you're more
experienced and you're ordering
items for the truck to bring in which i
i'll probably make another video on that
maybe if that's
uh um in the comments below
uh you know what customers are gonna buy
you know what sells so you can order
more of the items that sell
and when you bring more of the items up
front and they're going going going quickly
quickly
you didn't run out because you ordered
more of it so that's just a little quick
insider uh
it's kind of like a business tactic and
you know people say that
this is going a little off topic but
people said you know working at wagner's
you can't really
you know take things from it and learn
well really you can
because you get to know the business
aspect of certain things if
in case your your career you want to
have a career in business management
things like that so
no anything can anything can truly help
you if you allow it if you
take if you pick the right pieces of the puzzle
puzzle
anything can help you if you allow it so
that's why i say get to know the
demographics and what people buy
get to know who's buying things and what
they're buying and then try to
keep like a tab of tendency so all the
this person tends to buy this these
people tend to buy this
which means it's better for sales if we
bring some of this
up front and leave some of this in the
back so that's
why that is a great tip in my opinion
tip number six uh i'm probably not saying
saying
word for word but no know the
circumstances that's
going on at the time for example we all know
know
we were hit bad by kova and we're still
in covert depending on the time that
you're watching this video
and the the thing is during covid
which i i've worked at two stores one in
new york and then
one in georgia so i was able to see what
people were buying in both stores
and honestly you saw you know if if if
you were the one
shopping and things like that you know
things that were selling with toilet
paper uh
masks if you had masks my stone was out
of mask
out of masks for months um
gloves and you know just food so
really if you know the circumstances
that's going on in life and that it
doesn't even have to be covered let's say
say
uh the season is changing now people are
more susceptible to catching colds
that's when you can bring all of all of
the the
the tissues and the medicine for colds
bring all that up front again for a
business tactic to sell more
items so uh get to know the circumstances
circumstances
that's going on in life and that will
definitely definitely
help you out with working at walden and just
just
understanding the entire environment tip
number seven is try to work
all three types of shifts and that means morning
morning
midshifts and night shifts uh
and even if you work at a 12-hour store
uh 12-hour
24-hour store you know you can just ask
them what kind of shifts there are
midnight shift overnight shift all that
stuff try to work
all the different types of shifts and
why all these tips
they're not in a specific order but all
the tips go hand in hand
with each other and here's why i say
this tip goes hand in hand
if you work the different types of
shifts you get different customers that come
come
in at different times like some
customers only shopping
only shop in the mornings some customers
only shop midday and some customers shop
at night when they get off of work
so really and some customers shop
overnight when maybe they're just trying
to grab a quick snack
like even me sometimes so the reason why
i say
you know work the different types of
shifts is because then you'll
you'll be able to understand which shift
you like to work
more and someone did say in the comments uh
uh
in that last video that you know
a big problem with welding is uh
shoplifting and security
that happens a lot at the night shift so
if you're the type of person that
you're kind of a little bit intimidated
by maybe someone that's shoplifting
uh people that are trying to steal
things and you know you're not the type
person to walk up to them and say
oh hey can i help you because that's the
thing you can't don't intimidate a
shoplifter because that
also can backfire on yourself um
walgreens is more
they're more worried about your safety
so if they're trying to steal something
don't block the door nothing just let
them go let them take it
so um going back to that is it's just
you know if you're intimidated by you
know shoplifters and things like that
then you know maybe you now you know
you're not the type of person to work
the night shift and you'd rather work in
the morning
because also sometimes in certain stores
there's more people working during the day
day
than there are people that close at
night so you know if
if you're the type of person that can
you know you know
work at night and you're not necessarily
scared then you know
you can work at night if you're the type
of person that you don't like waking up
in the mornings
you'd rather get your sleeping and then
work the rest of the day then now you know
know
you know you don't like to work in the
mornings if you go to work in the
morning and you just see
and you seem tired can't really function
you know you you can't work in the morning
morning
if you're the type person that you know
you'd rather have the rest of the day to yourself
yourself
but not want to wake up too early then
maybe the midship is for you so really
work all the different types of shifts
that you can
in the beginning so that you can
understand you know
how you react to certain situations and
how you react to the environment that
you're placed in
so that's why i say work all the
different types of shifts because you
will definitely get to understand
a lot more about customers and yourself
tip number eight is use the cash
register when no one's around
and i don't mean stealing because
more often than not there's a camera
looking right at
basically all cash registers that's up
front so
if you're planning on stealing that's
not gonna go well for you i'll just put
it like that uh i had
there was someone that worked in my old
store and they got fired for
nonsense don't get fired for nonsense
come on be smarter than that
but you know use the cash register when
when no one's around you know there's
different options to press
on the screen get to know where the
option i like say
someone wants to make a return there's
four options to press and only one of those
those
options has the return function so you
definitely get used to the different
items and
pressing which buttons and knowing which which
which
buttons do what and just understanding
what the but what the buttons do which is
is
it's all saying the same thing use it
when no one's around because when no
one's around
you're not worried about ringing
somebody out and just like that
so you'll be able to actually sit there
and go okay this goes here
now let's go back this goes here let's
go back this goes here you'll be able to
literally it's simple you'll be able to
understand the understand the cash
register more
if you know which buttons has which
function tip number nine don't be afraid
to push buttons and by pushing buttons
i don't mean pushing the buttons of
customers i mean pushing the buttons of
your co-workers
i mean just like tip number eight you
know the cash register
but even if it's not the cash register
when you go over to the photo counter
you have to you know make sure all the
orders are in place and things like that
and you have to make sure that when
you're on the website
for printing the labels for the photos
you have to make sure
that the the labels are getting printed
for the right person the labels are
getting printed for the right order
because there's times when someone will
put wills
one person will send in three four five
different orders
but they have different order numbers
and you don't want to sit here and place
order number three on photo order number one
one
and then and then now they go oh i don't
want order number one can you cancel it
you now read the label that you put on
it which is for order number three
and you cancel order number three and
then you sell them
the actual order number three but it has
label number one
so really it's if you if you don't
understand that go back
rewind it uh think about what i just
said slowly and just
understand that concept you just have to
make sure that because it's really
reading it
use your judgment and you know read
certain things that it says
and you'll be perfectly fine and like i said
said
don't be afraid to push any buttons and
if the system end up
ends up blocking anna says you need a
manager just call your manager and you
just tell them you know
i was trying to learn what i was doing
so i i pressed this this this this and
this screen popped up and now you
you now know okay don't press that button
button
but let's still find a way to learn
things because that's how i learned how
to do a whole bunch of stuff like the
fedex orders and things like that and
just pressing pressing random buttons
and see what they do
but again use your judgment you don't
want to press a button
that says order three thousand paper
towels and now
truck day comes and your certain
managers like why do i have this order
here who did this
then it's on you tip number 10 uh these
tips were in no particular order
but get to know your cigarettes and i
say this because
um there was a comment that said they
don't want to be stuck at the register
not knowing what someone wants and
things like that and i've had this
plenty of time when i first started
working because
i i personally don't smoke cigarettes and
and
when i started i was like there are so
many different types of cigarettes with
so many different types of names
and people call them something that's
different from the actual name
and you know there's a salem slim
for example uh and then there's this one thing
thing
called like i think there's something
called slimmer something
i don't remember but someone asked for
one type of cigarette
and i went to grab something that wasn't
the cigarette
and they kept saying the name to me and
i'm looking at it like isn't this
exactly talking about
and then the person got upset with me
and kind of like
was rude to me that i didn't know and
you know of course i wanted to be like
i don't smoke no cigarettes i wouldn't know
know
but i was like
do your job find where it is boom
so really honestly sometimes when i'm at
the register oh and that's also
if your store has cigarettes because i
know in new york
most if not all walgreens don't sell
cigarettes anymore
at least in the city area uh
like in the five boroughs okay but
um like i was saying sometimes what i
would do is
because you know the cigarettes would be
right behind me so i would literally
turn around and i would just look at
all the different types of cigarettes in row
row
by row by row by row and i'll take my
time looking at them
looking at them and just looking at
every single one so that when a customer does
does
discord when a customer does come in
and ask for cigarettes i know exactly
where it is because you know and again
this goes back to maybe the demographics maybe
maybe
maybe people only in that area like to buy
buy
for example marlboro lights i know
exactly where that is because people are
always asking for marble lights
marvelous marble lights
and occasionally newport 100s marble
lights marble lights my pro lights
newport 100s marvel lights palm blue
like different types of cigarettes you
know people will
literally buy occasionally and literally
just all the time
so literally it's just turn around boom
grab it can i get three marbles turn
around boom grab it two newport 100 boom
grab it
so it's like you know exactly where it
is because you understand who's coming in
in
to buy what and that's also knowing the
customer because some customers
they're walking and they'll look in the direction
direction
that they want their cigarette and then
you look with them
and say can i get this this this this
that now you're already looking in the
area because the customer's already
looking for you too
so that's really that just you know
uh going through the 10 tips again i'm
about to just read it because i wrote it down
down
making sure that i knew what they were
get to know your store
do your ppls get to know the co-workers
get to know the customers
get to know the demographics and what
people buy understand the circumstance
that you're in
try to work all three types of shifts or
you know four in case there's overnight
uh number eight use the cash register
when no one's around
don't be afraid to push buttons and
number ten get to know the cigarettes
uh those are my personal uh
maybe top 10 but you know 10 tips for
working at walgreens if y'all want to
see more make sure to like comment and subscribe
subscribe
and also if you want me to do a video
which i'm probably going to do it anyway of
of
things i hate about walgreens
uh let me know in the comments and if
you also want to see me do a uh
things i like about walgreens which will
probably be a lot shorter
um the lemon rock i definitely do like
to work at the store because
they were the only place that would hire
me um
yeah i'm gonna get going i hope y'all
make sure y'all take these tips
take these tips run with it understand
and hopefully
it makes you a better workout welcome so
that you can move up the ladder and
become shift lead
if you want assistant manager if you
want store manager
if you want and uh yeah catch out
